Editorial Review:

This casebook explores the ethical responsibilities of a prosecutor at each stage of the criminal justice process. Focusing on ethical and constitutional constraints on prosecutorial discretion, the texts covers both Supreme Court decisions interpreting Fifth and Sixth Amendment guarantees and state rules of attorney conduct. Topics discussed include a prosecutor’s conduct during criminal investigations, charging decisions, grand jury practice, interviewing and contacting witnesses, plea bargaining, jury selection, trial conduct, and publicity. Each chapter is followed by real-world hypotheticals designed to introduce students to the ethical dilemmas typically encountered by government lawyers in criminal practice. This book is suitable for use in an upper level professional responsibility seminar, or in a criminal justice clinic. Pertinent provisions of the American Bar Association’s Model Rules of Professional Conduct and Standards for Criminal Justice are included in an appendix.

Editorial Review:

This book is intended for use in California law school courses that teach the fundamentals of legal ethics. Each chapter begins with a set of problems drawn from decided cases, ethics opinions, the writings of scholars in the field, and the authors' experience in teaching and law practice. The authors have provided realistic problems—the kinds that arise with disturbing frequency in the daily practice of law. For each major topic, there is background reading material that illustrates the variety of sources to which a lawyer or judge can turn when seeking answers to ethics questions.

Editorial Review:

'To clerk or not to clerk?'

Although the answer should be 'clerk', the reality is that most students won't apply for a clerkship. The most common reason why students don't apply is a lack of knowledge about what it takes to get a clerkship or how beneficial it will be to their careers.

With The Guide to Judicial Clerkships Debra M. Strauss demystifies the clerkship process. Drawing from the experiences of clerks and judges, she explains all aspects of clerkships — what clerkships are, what kind of work clerks do, why you should apply, how to find and apply for the type of clerkship that would be right for you, how to give a strong interview, and why clerkships give you stellar credentials that prospective employers will actively seek out.

The Guide to Judicial Clerkships contains everything that you need to make the right choice — clerk!

Editorial Review:

For a variety of courses on applied ethics in departments of Philosophy, Sociology, or Criminal Justice. A collection of essays which examine how personal and moral beliefs influence the relationship between criminal justice and social justice. The book is not a proscriptive manifesto of what criminal justice ethics should be, but an invitation for students to debate what criminal justice ethics are, while stressing the importance of individual ethics and morality. An introduction on ethical reasoning and ethics pedagogy is followed by sections on the nature of criminal guilt, law making, law enforcement, judicial processing, punishment and emerging issues (technology and media).

An excellent school counselor resource that is thorough & easy to read. Should be a required text for all college school counselor education programs. I am currently using it as part of my college Post-Master's School Counselor's State Certification program. Again, excellent.
