Not the greatest buy 1 out of 5 stars.

About the greatest thing about this book is cover which is even not that great. For someone who proclaims to have gone through law school as the author claims, the book is very poor in written form. The book also does a LOT of repeating and dressing up "facts" in a way that is often used by marketers to sell their product. Although there may be one or two good points in the book, most of it is common sense. Basically, it is an expensive way of telling you to ask yourself the questions as to whether or not you know what lawyers do and whether or not you have researched the field of law enough to have the confidence to head to law school. Like I said before, she (the author) has some valid points but everything in the book can be found online for free and is basic common sense. I would'nt suggest forking out the cash for this reading.

Editorial Review:

Are you making the right decision to get into--or remain--in law? Whether you're a prospective law student, a current law student, or even a practicing lawyer, the decision to enter--or remain--in law ranks among the biggest career decisions you'll ever make. From the latest research on decision-making, authors Deborah Schneider and Gary Belsky have written a unique career-building guide that will help you evaluate and answer the most basic question facing you now: Should you really be a lawyer?

Editorial Review:

This new edition of Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist’s classic book offers a lively and accessible history of the Supreme Court. His engaging writing illuminates both the high and low points in the Court's history, from Chief Justice Marshall’s dominance of the Court during the early nineteenth century through the landmark decisions of the Warren Court. Citing cases such as the Dred Scott decision and Roosevelt's Court-packing plan, Rehnquist makes clear that the Court does not operate in a vacuum, that the justices are unavoidably influenced by their surroundings, and that their decisions have real and lasting impacts on our society.

The public often hears little about the Supreme Court until decisions are handed down. Here, Rehnquist reveals its inner workings--the process by which cases are chosen, the nature of the conferences where decisions are made, and the type of debates that take place. With grace and wit, this incisive history gives a dynamic and informative account of the most powerful court in the nation and how it has shaped the direction America has taken.

An excelent source of information on Business Law. I had this book for my first college course in Business law and without it I might have failed. The book utalizes real cases and situations to explain virtualy every topic. The text is presented in a very clear and concise manner and applies to Business Law as practiced in America today. I personally have even used the information in this book to argue a case of my own in small claims and won. Im sure the other reviewer of this book just didn't take the time to study and learn the information. Rely on experience, not ramblings, buy this book!

Not understandable 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I found the book to be confusing in most cases. It would seem as though it would make runaround in descriptions. It would try to explain things in to much detail, thereby confusing the hell out of you.

Editorial Review:

This text offers a practical approach to law that emphasizes current and relevant topics students need for business transactions. The basic business law concepts are covered without extensive theory, thus making the law more approachable. The substantial breadth of this text, laden with examples and cases, provides an effective introduction to a variety of legal topics.

Not helpful 1 out of 5 stars.

The ABA should be ashamed. This is not a book designed to inform but a list of reasons to see a lawyer. Interested in software to help. They cover that topic saying "since lawyers generally charge less for less complicated estates, you may be able to gain the benefits and flexibility of real legal advice for little more than the cost ofa computerized will kit." They let you know that "many alternative estate providers fail to inform you when there may be abetter (or cheaper) way to accomplish your goals" implying that the infallible lawyers always do so.

Want to use a statutory will - they'll tell you why you should use a lawyer instead.

Interested in learning about benificiary deeds they tell you "Your lawyer can explain the ins and outs of your state's law relating to beneficiary deeds."

Here's another very informative passage "Your lawyer can help you figure out which is which, so that you know what property you can transfer through estate planning."

Setting up a trust "you should surely use a lawyer to set one up. * If the trust is for the benefit of your minor children, ..."

How about this gem from page 44 "...should be coordinated with your estate plan, preferably with the assistance of your lawyer."

Or this one from page 46 "Check with your lawyer to see whether your state permits this arrangement and whether it's a good idea for your situation."

Want a well crafted will? Your infallible lawyer can help "craft your language so that no ambiguities remain that might invite a court challenge. Your lawyer can help you do that."

Don't ask practical questions, like which states allow statutory wills, those aren't answered.

Editorial Review:

Written by a group of America's top lawyers, this book deals with those two certainties of life--death and taxes--providing expert, rock-solid legal counsel at a fraction of what it would cost to go to a lawyer. Aming the topics covered are living wills and how to avoid inheritance taxes.

Not Only For Students 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I am using this textbook in several of my classes, and let me just say- it has everything I could have hoped for. The chapters are laid out well, many cases are cited, and the student is given actual cases to figure out, with the citations given at the end so he can find the actual outcome. I've found this to be among the best textbooks. It is so good, in fact that I've reccomended it to several of my friends who are going into business for themselves. This covers nearly everything they'll need to know regarding contracts, secured transactions, warranties, etc.
Love the law!

Editorial Review:

A business-oriented law text with high interest and exceptional visual appeal, BUSINESS LAW TODAY is a book that appeals to both professors and students by providing thorough, dynamic coverage of traditional business law topics and exploration using edited cases. This version includes additional legal environment chapters and those chapters necessary for students taking the CPA exam, making this text the most appropriate BUSINESS LAW TODAY version for accounting students. This text explicitly meets the AACSB curriculum requirements.

Excellent and Well Written Text 5 out of 5 stars.

This book provides an in-depth discussion of the civil procedure in a well written and understandable presentation. It is a lot better than the Glannon's book.

NEED CLARITY IN CIV PRO BUY this BOOK!!!!!!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book was a godsend unfortunately I bought it a little too late, I wish I would have had it for the entire year instead of the last couple of weeks of class. It has everything including the minute details professors like to test on for finals...If you need civil procedure help..look at this book or listen to the Richard Freer CDS..

Simply Excellent 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I agree with the other reviewers that this is an excellent guide to Civil Procedure. The book provides the basics of Civil Procedure and, where appropriate, the little details that can easily trap an unwary student on an exam. Most importantly, the book is peppered with examples that will help crystalize the material. Suprisingly, it also is very easy reading. My impression was that the author actually was interested in making sure the reader understands the material rather than providing a perfunctory compilation of rules. Like one of the prior reviewers, I was essentially lost for the majority of my Civil Procedure class until I bought this book.

Editorial Review:

Written by leading scholars, each title in the "Introduction to Law" series contains comprehensive treatment in black-letter style. Featuring footnotes citing to case law, statutory and other authorities, these volumes are ideal for in-depth research on particular issues and points of law.

The third edition is up to date--It is super!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
13 of 14 people found this review helpful.

I don't know whether or why the 2d edition would be on sale, as the first reviewer implies in his or her nevertheless good review. The third edition has been out for two years and it is complete, accessible, understandable, and better than the competition--by far! If you want to understand patents, copyrights, trademarks, this book will make you an expert in an afternoon.

Just wrong. 1 out of 5 stars.
6 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I only read the patent section, and have no knowledge of the other sections. However I have found the book to be entirely too superficial to be of any assistance. Additionally, at more than one occasion on topics that are fairly important, the information was just wrong. I have read the patent section of my IP supplements to prepare for the exam, and I by far recommend the IP hornbook. It's a little longer but WAY worth it over this book. If your library doesn't have a copy and it's too expensive for you, then try Examples and Explanations, but whatever you do, don't just rely on this book, you'll look like an idiot when you completely misstate some things. I mean 90 to 95% of it is right, I'm sure, but I'm going to get enough wrong on my own, I don't need help.

Editorial Review:

Authors Michael Davis and famed Harvard professor Arthur Miller provide authoritative coverage on the foundations of patent protection, patentability, and the patenting process. Presents the fundamentals of trademarks and copyright laws. Text further addresses torts and property, antitrust and government regulation, concepts of federalism and state, and federal conflicts.

Thought provoking and engaging casebook 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Though I have to agree with many of the other reviewers that this particular casebook is more philosophically grounded, I firmly believe that that basis is what makes it a great casebook. Since criminal law varies with each jurisdiction, the concepts you can learn by using this criminal law casebook will form the basis for understanding and applying criminal law in practice.

I have to admit, however, that it did take me a while to wrap my head around the casebook but, if you're professor is engaging you in the discussion (I'm assuming you are a student) then gradually you will start to see how Dressler's discussion on certain philosophical topics as why the criminal law punishes fits into important criminal law concepts such as: statutory interpretation, the elements of a crime, defenses etc.

As other's have mentioned there is a supplement that Lexis put out in their understanding series that Dressler wrote. Also, if you get your hands on the Sum and Substance CD series Dressler is also the narrator.

In addition, if you do have to use this casebook pay attention to the notes and notecases since many of them deal with important criminal law tests and cases that may show up on your exam. They often times will be buried and you may gloss over them not realizing their importance.

Editorial Review:

The book examines the basis of discrimination against people with disabilities, including the history of such discrimination and a review of studies that explore why people engage in this sort of discrimination. It examines the federal laws that culminated in the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The book describes the ADA's definition of disability, how it has been interpreted and studied, and then reviews the three major titles of the ADA, including a review of the remedies available for various ADA claims and the procedures required to pursue them.

The Living Trust: The failproof way to pass along your estate to heirs 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

It is an excellent guide book IF you have a Living Trust. There are a couple other books that Mr. Abts wrote that precede this one which are all very good and information everyone should know about, if you do not want to go through the expense of lawyers and probate. I am very glad that we had our's drawn up back in 1992. My husband passed in 2001, and this has been a great help to me, along with the help and support of an excellent Trust and Financial Advisor. The Living Trust is valid in every state in the Union.

Disorganized, repetitive and much too long. 2 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book contains quite a bit of good information but only after you wade through about 90 pages of sales pitch for living trusts. When you finally get to the part of the book containing actual information about trusts it is disorganized and repetitive to the extreme. Much of the book appears to be excerpts from trust seminars given by the author which are strung end to end to bulk out the book. A good rewrite and editing would make this a more readable, concise and useful book.

Editorial Review:

A guide to writing a living will features information on the Catastrophic Illness Trust, the Q-DOT trust, a trust for married partners, competency clause changes, handicapped protection, the disinherited child, and other issues. Reprint.
