More of a Test Prep 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book, and in fact, this entire series serves as a very useful tool for any law student--it is an excellent test prep.

If you're struggling in a particular subject, it DOES help some--but I'd really look to the nutshell series or some other source if you're looking for an in-depth analysis.

CrunchTime helped boost my grade! 5 out of 5 stars.

CrunchTime helped me understand what was going on in Civil Procedue...what a relief!

Great in a pinch 3 out of 5 stars.

I bought these 2 weeks before finals and found them helpful specifically for the joinder and discovery rules. I do wish they would come out with a set that included both Civ Pro I and II. These were great for last minute studying.

Editorial Review:

CrunchTime provides a comprehensive topic breakdown and critical information review all in one tool! The application flow charts can be used all semester long, but the capsule summaries are ideal for exam preparation. Each title offers capsule summaries of major points of law and critical issues, exam tips for identifying common traps and pitfalls, sample exam and essay questions with model answers, and recommended approaches for crafting essays that will get winning grades.

Ok, but No Freer 1 out of 5 stars.
3 of 6 people found this review helpful.

E&E is a great series. I've found many of the books helpful in supplementing law school reading that can be at times difficult to synthesize. However, Freer's supplement on civil procedure is unbeatable.

Law school is about knowing the rule and applying the facts. E&E is great at helping you to know the rule. However, it doesn't help you figure out how to apply the facts, especially in a way pertinent to law school exams. Freer's book is full of examples and frameworks that assure success on your CivPro exam. This is especially true of the frameworks he lays out for analyzing Personal Jurisdiction problems and Erie.

Buy Freer and you'll be happier going into your final.

Editorial Review:

Students know they can count on expert study guide author Joseph W. Glannon to clarify even the most complicated topics. Unquestionable effectiveness earned his civil procedure guides their bestselling status. Extensively revised and updated for its Fifth Edition, "Civil Procedure: Examples & Explanations" continues to introduce the principles of civil procedure and illustrate how they apply in typical cases.

good book, however...... 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This an excellent book to start your non profit but the bylaws, article of inc., and other such documents is typed in the back of the book but not on the disc. You evidently have to retype it yourself. The 1023, ss-4, and other forms are on the disc with the publications. In general, I wish the book went more in depth about the 1023 form since this is the most critical form for a non profit. Otherwise, excellent book and great tool for starting a non profit organization.

All the Paperwork without the Lawyers. 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book would be better titled: "How to apply for 501(c)3 non-profit tax exempt status including examples with forms on CD". This book is for applying for non-profit status, but should be read even if you are just thinking of starting a non-profit. If you really do not know what you need to apply as a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization and want to do as much as you can on your own, this is the book to help you fill out the forms and make sure you have all your paperwork lined up and ready. This is not the book to help you decide what your non-profit purpose will be, how to actually organize the people and resources, or any of the details necessary to create your non-profit organization. This book is for the time you are ready to apply for non-profit status. Even though it's an end of process book, I highly recommend this book for the beginning stages of forming a non-profit. It will really show you what you need, and with that information you can find other books and assistance when necessary to initiate the process of becoming a non-profit. This is a good book to have even if you are just thinking of starting a non-profit. It will help answer many questions and eventually help you complete the process on your own without the price of a lawyer, if you can not afford an attorney. If you are starting or even thinking of starting a non-profit group, this book is worth the price of admission (even when not on sale) to open, read, and use. But like all non-profits, use your funds wisely and in your groups best interest, find the book on sale somewhere. Oh, and like all books with examples and forms, check for updates and changes with the appropriate agency. Not all forms and information will be current after publication date.

Editorial Review:

Here is the definitive guide for arts groups, educators, social service agencies, environmentalists and anyone who wants to start a nonprofit organization. It shows step-by-step how to form and operate a tax-exempt nonprofit corporation in all 50 states, and includes complete instructions for obtaining federal (501)(c)(3) tax exemption and for qualifying for public charity status with the IRS. Without a doubt this is an essential key to success in civil procedure. I basically outlined this book along with my class notes and got an A on the exam. Very, very, very good aid.

Glannon clearly and succinctly provides examples of possible multiple choice questions that could be found on exams. Unlike a lot of other guides I've seen...it's not confusing and it's not a chore to read through the book.

Great Gift! 5 out of 5 stars.
13 of 22 people found this review helpful.

There is nothing more riveting than the law in a flash series - especially the Evidence flashcards. I remember Christmases past, sitting around the sparkling tree at the old cabin and laughing over the intricacies of hearsay with the whole family. Every time I see a stack of flashcards, I remember Grandpa's Rule 403 joke and smile.

Evidence, one card at a time 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Studying evidence can be intimidating. It is just an endless series of exceptions to the basic rule that anything relevant is admissible. And then exceptions to the exceptions. But the Law in a Flash series made it really manageable and easy to understand and remember in small pieces that are digestible even when your brain is mush.

Great for study, but not to be used alone 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Evidence, as one learns, is primarily "tribal knowledge" in that many of the rules are just something you need to learn the exceptions to, and they don't always make sense. These are great for learning evidence, but they should not be used as your only "question pack" because the cards provide points without a complex fact scenario. Siegel's and other books provide MBE and written-style questions that are more useful, but these are good for the basics. It is a shame they are not available for more topics. Be warned - many of these cards are duplicated in the "CrunchTime" book by the same company.

Editorial Review:

Ideal for reviewing legal topics point-by-point, these comprehensive Law in a Flash Card Sets contain succinct questions and provide precise answers on the flip side. Perfect for a portable, on-the-go review.

Feeling reassured by having more books? 3 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

At six-hundred pages, your average overworked law student is not too keen on reading another 40 pages a night, especially with a full slate of classes. That being said, this book contains a "Casebook correlation chart," which helps you decide which part of the book to read in the approximate order of your own textbook. It covers: Green Nesson, "Evidence" (3rd Ed. 2000); Wellborn, "Cases & Mat..." (1st ed. 2000); Mueller & Kirkpatrick, "Evidence Under the Rules" (4th Ed. 2000), and Waltz & Park, "Evidence" (9th Ed. 1999).

I would suggest checking this out of your law library instead of buying it and reading the relevant parts of the "Capsule Summary" (79 pages) if you're pressed for time and you want a nuanced overview of Evidence.

The rest of the book is nicely outlined, but way too much information for the average to under-achieving student. However if you want it for clarification on certain rules, or just having it in your bookshelf would make you feel better about Evidence, you can get it so cheap that it can't hurt.

Editorial Review:

A distinguished and experienced appellate court judge, Richard A. Posner offers in this new book a unique and, to orthodox legal thinkers, a startling perspective on how judges and justices decide cases. When conventional legal materials enable judges to ascertain the true facts of a case and apply clear pre-existing legal rules to them, Posner argues, they do so straightforwardly; that is the domain of legalist reasoning. However, in non-routine cases, the conventional materials run out and judges are on their own, navigating uncharted seas with equipment consisting of experience, emotions, and often unconscious beliefs. In doing so, they take on a legislative role, though one that is confined by internal and external constraints, such as professional ethics, opinions of respected colleagues, and limitations imposed by other branches of government on freewheeling judicial discretion. Occasional legislators, judges are motivated by political considerations in a broad and sometimes a narrow sense of that term. In that open area, most American judges are legal pragmatists. Legal pragmatism is forward-looking and policy-based. It focuses on the consequences of a decision in both the short and the long term, rather than on its antecedent logic. Legal pragmatism so understood is really just a form of ordinary practical reasoning, rather than some special kind of legal reasoning.

Supreme Court justices are uniquely free from the constraints on ordinary judges and uniquely tempted to engage in legislative forms of adjudication. More than any other court, the Supreme Court is best understood as a political court.

Great Study Aid for Criminal Law 4 out of 5 stars.

These cards were a great way for me to study for my exam. I found the colorful examples and the great black letter law and theory definition cards to be very effective. In addition the way these cards are organized is great.

Fantastic 5 out of 5 stars.

Excellent book. It was very thorough and well written.

Splendid resource for students in California non-ABA law schools! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 14 people found this review helpful.

If you're in a California non-ABA approved law school and after about nine months you are completely burnt out with your text books then start studying these criminal law flash cards. In the first 100 cards it clarifies legal terms that extend to torts as well such as vicarious liabilty and these flash cards go on to explain the exact difference between proximate cause and cause in fact for both criminal law and torts as well. These flash cards are not as hard to study as text books but they are not a substitute for them either. If you are 1ls in an ABA approved law school then disregard this review and study whatever your law professor recommends.

A "must have" book for novice Private Investigators 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I have finished reading this book, and here are my findings:

The book is very easy to read. In some portions, it is almost a page turner, and you could forget you're reading an instruction text. The information is presented clear and accurate, with enough personal stories to put the use of the techniques into context without becoming too "wordy" or redundant. The book does not extensively cover legal terminology or evidence collection and photography procedures (for that, I'd recommend "The Process of Investigation" by Sennewald and Tsukayama), but it does a great job of covering the basic techniques of Surveillance, Interviewing, Interrogation, Internet Database and Public Records Searchies and other Electronic Surveillance measuresOverall I would say that this book is a must read for anyone who is considering entering the field of Private Investigation.

Editorial Review:

The gumshoe go-to—revised and updated.

Easy-to-use and fantastically inclusive, this is the book on private investigation, whether you want to establish yourself as a professional or just use some of the tools of a P.I. for your own business. You’ll get the low-down on pre-employment research, tenant screening, adoption searches, safeguarding yourself from investigation, and much more.
—Completely revised with all-new chapters on skip tracing and due diligence searches
—Skills and techniques for average citizens, as well as professionals

Great for getting the fine points. 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The Glannon books (especially the Glannon Guide q&a book) are more comprehensive, but when it comes down to the last week or two and you want to be sure you haven't missed the fine points hiding in the FRCP (and there are a lot of those) - this book is great.

Great for Exam Prep, Too Broad for Class 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Each chapter has a useful short review and checklist. The book was a great help near the end of term, when broad checklists became more important than minutiae. I'd recommend getting this along with a more classic commercial outline, like Clermont Black Letter.

Editorial Review:

This study aid features an innovative method of content organization. It uses a checklist format to lead students through questions they need to ask to fully evaluate the legal problem they are trying to solve. It also synthesizes the material in a way that most students are unable to do on their own, and assembles the different issues, presenting a clear guide to procedural analysis that students can draw upon when writing their exams. Other study aids provide sample problems, but none offer the systematic approach to problem solving found in this book.
