Need to know more? Here are in-depth details about what you can do with Quicken Willmaker Plus 2009 Edition: Estate Planning Essentials:

    Health Care Power of Attorney

    Living Will
Specify whether you want your life prolonged through artificial means. Appoint someone to make sure your wishes are carried out.

    Your Financial Power of Attorney
Name someone to make your financial decisions, in case you are medically incapacitated. Don't worry, you can grant as much authority as you wish.

    Your Final Arrangements

    A Practitioner's Perspective 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought an earlier edition while I was in law school. This book is very well organized and covers both the conceptual and practical perspectives of taxation extraordinarily well. The questions at the end of each section help to solidify your understanding of the concepts by varying the fact scenarios from question to question.

I've been in tax practice for ten years, and I purchase each updated edition for a review of the conceptual aspects of taxation and for a quick review of the tax treatment of transactions I haven't handled very often in practice.

Excellent Resource for Studying Federal Income Tax 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

We can count on two things: (1) death and (2) taxes. Death and taxes have a lot in common: both are complex, difficult to talk about, a great deal of mystery surrounds them, and people avoid both at all costs.

Taxes impact all of our lives in every way. Married? Tax consequences. Buy a house? Tax consequences. Sell a widget? Tax consequences. Purchase a hamburger? Tax consequences. Taxes are everywhere around us.

The government needs revenue. The overwhelming majority of the IRS's total in-take is from the income tax. Corporations, estates and trusts (and other taxes such as excise taxes) are a much, much smaller portion of the government's annual and total intake. Thus, it is critical to learn and understand Federal Income Tax.

    Students:
You will, in my view, "need" a reliable, accurate, and well-organized resource to do well in your Federal Income Tax class. Federal Income Tax: Examples & Explanations is so useful that I am keeping my copy for future reference, and I have used it in "real-life," and might even buy the newer editions as they are released.

    Law Students:
Tax policies, history and development of the income tax, how the IRS administers the tax code ... all very interesting and fun to learn. Come exam time, however, it will be all application. The examples in the book will provide you with an opportunity to learn not only the rules but how they are applied.

In closing, if you expect to do well in Federal Income Tax, you will "need" this book to do well in your class. If you know of a better Federal Income Tax supplemental, please let me know. I will definitely check it out. I am highly confident this is the resource you need, and I easily rate it 5+ stars.

Best of luck with your study of taxation!

Really bad 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book and its utter waste of paper and money. There are much better forms available for free to be downloaded from the internet. This book is completely useless for anyone who lives outside USA. I think Americans are smart enough to google the kind of forms they are looking for.

A little out dated 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is a little outdated, but is very useful in writing you own form. Most of the forms on the disk can't be customized using newer word processing software.

    Editorial Review:

Here's the classic "bible" of forms and checklists for every situation a professional photographer may face. Thoroughly expanded and updated to cover the Internet, this brand-new Third Edition contains 31 forms, each ready-to-use as is, or easily tailored to fit any situation. Photographers will find contracts for wedding, portrait, and assignment photography; property and model releases, assignment estimates, confirmations, and invoices; delivery memos; license for Web usage; nondisclosure agreements; and much, much more. An accompanying CD-ROM provides electronic versions of these forms, ready to use on both Macs and PCs.

    Editorial Review:

Wouldn't you love to abolish the IRS ...
Keep all the money in your paycheck ...
Pay taxes on what you spend, not what you earn ...
And eliminate all the fraud, hassle, and waste of our current system?

Then the FairTax is for you. In the face of the outlandish American tax burden, talk-radio firebrand Neal Boortz and Congressman John Linder are leading the charge to phase out our current, unfair system and enact the FairTax Plan, replacing the federal income tax and withholding system with a simple 23 percent retail sales tax on new goods and services. This dramatic revision of the current system, which would eliminate the reviled IRS, has already caught fire in the American heartland, with more than six hundred thousand taxpayers signing on in support of the plan.

As Boortz and Linder reveal in this first book on the FairTax, this radical but eminently sensible plan would end the annual national nightmare of filing income tax returns, while at the same time enlarging the federal tax base by collecting sales tax from every retail consumer in the country. The FairTax, they argue, would transform the fearsome bureaucracy of the IRS into a more transparent, accountable, and equitable tax collection system. Among other benefits, it will:

    • Make America's tax code truly voluntary, without reducing revenue
    • Replace today's indecipherable tax code with one simple sales tax
    • Protect lower-income Americans by covering the tax on basic necessities
    • Eliminate billions of dollars in embedded taxes we don't even know we're paying
    • Bring offshore corporate dollars back into the U.S. economy

Endorsed by scores of leading economists and supported by a huge and growing grassroots movement, the FairTax Plan could revolutionize the way America pays for itself. In this straight-talking book, Neal Boortz and John Linder show you how it would work—and how you can help make it happen.

Almost too comprehensive 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Oddly enough, I feel that this outline was almost too comprehensive to be useful for studying for my T&E law school final exam. The detailed outline is close to 300 pages long, and attempts to address every possible iteration of the law of Trusts and Estates, including common/federal and state specific law, the Uniform Trust Code, the Wills Act and other areas. In my opinion, this shotgun approach made weeding out the law applicable in my area from the other chaff extremely difficult. If the outline were organized in a different fashion, i.e., where how the issues in this subject were collectively addressed by the form of law (e.g., all federal law issues grouped together, all common law issues grouped together, discussion of UTC grouped together etc.) this book would have been eminently more useful to me. The sad thing is, the content of this outline is extremely good and detailed. Its organization, however, makes learning that content more of a chore than it has to be.

    Editorial Review:

Keyed to the popular Wills, Trusts, and Estates Casebook by Jesse Dukeminier. The most trusted name in law school outlines, Emanuel Law Outlines support your class preparation, provide reference for your outline creation, and supply a comprehensive breakdown of topic matter for your entire study process. Created by Steven Emanuel, these course outlines have been relied on by generations of law students. Each title includes both capsule and detailed versions of the critical issues and key topics you must know to master the course. Also included are exam questions with model answers, an alpha-list of cases, and a cross reference table of cases for all of the leading casebooks.

I'm at that age where sometime in the foreseeable future, I'm going to have to deal with the passing of one or more parents in our family. In addition to the grieving process, there's something that often doesn't get discussed until it's too late... what do you do with all the "stuff" your parents have accumulated over their lifetime? Julie Hall has made a career of working through that process with people, and she's written a book called The Boomer Burden: Dealing with Your Parents' Lifetime Accumulation of Stuff. Even though it may not be a subject you want to think about, time spent reading The Boomer Burden now can lead to infinitely fewer headaches and fractured relationships when that time comes. And if you're the parent, reading and acting on the information here is one of the best gifts you can give to your children.

    About the Author

Hall has a business called The Estate Lady, and she brings 17 years of experience to this often ignored (but inevitable) part of life. She documents in painful detail how normal families can turn into dishonest, contentious enemies over the process of clearing out and dividing up the contents of the parents' estate. It's also quite normal for "friends" to want to help out with the process, but those friends often help themselves to items when no one is looking. Add antique dealers and consignment agents on top of that, and valuable keepsakes can wander out the door for pennies on the dollar, often before you even know what happened. Hall has a process which helps you make difficult decisions beforehand (when emotions aren't running high), as well as steps to follow which makes the process of emptying the house something which doesn't have to be completely overwhelming. She also counsels parents to take the time beforehand to make a will, record where all the important papers are, and to list out any items of value and who they would want them to go to when they die. These simple acts can make all the difference in the world to the survivors who have to sort it all out.

It's tempting to think that your family will be one of the 20% (yes, it's that low) that smoothly handles this unfortunate event. Odds are, you won't be. While I'm not in the position of having Depression-era parents who saved EVERYTHING, there's still "stuff" that will have to be handled when that time comes for me. Based on the information in this book, I know I'll be in a much better position to do the right things than I would have been without it. I would recommend this book be standard reading material for anyone over the age of 35. Trust me, you'll need it at some point...

    Editorial Review:

A practical guide to advise Baby Boomers how to deal with the daunting task of facing a parents' eventual passing as it relates to residential contents, heirlooms, and the often difficult family interactions and feuds that accompany them.

With fascinating stories and comprehensive checklists, professional estate liquidator Julie Hall walks Baby Boomers through the often painful challenge of dividing the wealth and property of their parents' lifetime accumulation of stuff. From preparation while the parent is still living through compassionately helping them empty the family home, The Estate Lady® gives invaluable tips on negotiating the inevitable disputes, avoiding exploitation from scam artists, and eventually closing the chapter of their lives in a way that preserves relationships and maximizes value of assets.
