Perfect 5 out of 5 stars.

I am quite athletic and injured some muscles/tendons. I was in physical therapy and wanted to know more about why specific exercises were helping more than I had expected. This is a perfect book for the aging athlete who will start getting more and more minor problems from wear and tear, that seem to take longer and longer to heal. This book describes quite clearly and completely activies that help both in prevention and recovery. The knowledge it contains will help anyone heal as quickly as possible and avoid reinjury.

Editorial Review:

-- Focuses on all basic therapeutic exercises used for the treatment of musculoskeletal and cardiopulmonary disorders -- Coverage of isokinetics, soft tissue injury repair, surgical procedures, exercise rehabilitation, postoperative management, and posture -- Expanded coverage of functionally related exercises, including closed chain exercises, plyometric and stabilization training -- Functional limitations/disabilities as well as structural problems are identified for each diagnosis -- Guidelines and rationales for choosing and following appropriate exercise procedures -- Clinical skills presented in outline form with accompanying line drawings -- Each chapter begins with learning objectives and concludes with a chapter summary

Usually these types of books are theoritical (for example why art therapy works) while this one is practical with many activities to work with.

Invaluable 5 out of 5 stars.
24 of 27 people found this review helpful.

I got an earlier edition of this book in Physical Therapy school and it was invaluable in teaching the finer points of goniometry. I constantly used it as a source of information, until I became comfortable with measuring joint range of motion. Since I am now working in the inpatient arena, I mostly repeatedly measure knees, but refer back to it when I need to brush up on another joint. It has clear pictures and overall is a great reference book for anyone who has to evaluate joint ranges of motion.

Excellent 5 out of 5 stars.

This is an excellent as easily describes how to do ROM of all sorts of joints. A great book for a student and practitioner that needs to look up the more obscure joints. It has tables as well for normal ROM. You can't go wrong with this one.

Editorial Review:

Ohio University, Athens. Instructional manual for physical therapy students, presenting range-of-motion measurement and evaluation procedures by the author of a closely-related Brandon/Hill Allied Health List first-purchase title. Photographic illustration. Plastic spiral binding.

User-friendly and well-organized 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This is a book that I have used often through my graduate career. It served as a great textbook for a course I was taking and as supplementary material for other other courses on Statistics, Design and Research Methods.

Well-organized and easy-to-read, it has become my first line-of-defense for all things related to research design. It covers the material in adequate detail so you have a good jumping off point in case you need to grab your SAS manual or your Stats text.

This is an incredible book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is just incredibly good!!! It combined details with cool simplicity. A must have for researchers.

Practical, and clearly written 5 out of 5 stars.

Although I have used this text as a reference (vs. reading it all the way through, or for a class) I have found myself returning to it often. In fact, I purchased it only because I had started to wear out the copy I had borrowed from a friend...and she was missing it because she used it frequently, too. The best aspect of this text is the way the authors use examples relevant to clinical research for nearly every statistical decision. No more extrapolating from educational research, medical research...I don't usually have that much imagination! Good book.

Loves Cures All 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is about a little boy named Dibs. He is very intelligent. However, he appears to have a social disorder, is withdrawn, and afraid. His therapist helps him overcome this through psychotherapy (in the form of play therapy.) She shows him lots of love and concern, but not judgement or condemnation; her method extremely helps him.

I don't think there is anything "wrong" with Dibs. God made us all different. Some people are naturally bubbly and confident; some people have difficulty interacting with other people. I think God made us all different for a reason: there are many different jobs and missions in this world that have to be done, and different jobs require people of different personalities in order to be able to get them all done. No one should tease or judge someone for being "withdrawn" or "introverted". God has great plans for that "withdrawn" person, as well as He does for the bubbly loudmouth.

This book was written in 1964, but I feel it is still a wonderful book. A more recent book that might be of interest to people who loved this book is "The Highly Sensitive Person" by Elaine Aron. (And by the way, her book tells us the same thing that I said in my earlier paragraph, about different personalities are required for different jobs.)

This is a well-written, true account.

Editorial Review:

The classic of child therapy. Dibs will not talk. He will not play. He has locked himself in a very special prison. And he is alone. This is the true story of how he learned to reach out for the sunshine, for life . . . how he came to the breathless discovery of himself that brought him back to the world of other children.

This book had many details that will help establish one's foundation of kinesiology. It is more advanced but is necessary for a graduate level course.

Editorial Review:

The link between structure and function of the musculoskeletal system is clarified and explained in this complete guide to clinical kinesiology. Kinesiology of the Musculoskeletal System is the most comprehensive, research-based, reader-friendly text on kinesiology ever published. Beautifully and abundantly illustrated in two-color, this dynamic, accessible resource presents complex scientific information in an approach designed to draw the reader in and explore the fundamental principles of kinesiology of the trunk and extremities as well as in relation to joints, muscles, and biomechanics.

Exactly what we learned in class 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Dawn Gulick taught Ortho to my class and this book is the best. I only wish we had it at the begining of the class. Everything she taught us was included. It is a really good reference that actually fits in your pocket. I carry it with me at clinic as a reference. It is easy to use and just short of bullet proof. You can write in it and erase pen with an alcohol pad. I have spilled coffee on it without a scratch. My CI even found it useful because it jogged her momory on stuff she doesn't really use that often.

Ortho Notes: A Clinical Examination Pocket Guide 4 out of 5 stars.

Good reference book, especially if you are not an ortho person by nature. Wish the print was bigger

Always at my fingertips 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I happened across this book a year ago and can't believe how much I refer to this book. It is an excellent reference during exams and I find myself thumbing through it during down time. The pictures, quick easy exam tips, easy follow reading and layout are all just a few of the characteristics that I truly appreciate. I always am coming across something that is a wonderful review and or something that I was not aware of. I LOVE the differential diagnosis in each section. Another quality of this book is that the pages are sturdy and waterproof. I'm sure as often as I have carried this around with me over the past year, the pages would have been rather dog-eared if only of paper product.

Editorial Review:

A Davis's Notes book. OrthoNotes is an innovative, easy-to-access pocket guide of essential orthopedic information for PTs, OTs, and medical students and clinicians.

As a specialist in orthopaedic physical therapy, i found this book extremely refreshing. Finally, a text that offers a non-dogmatic review of manual therapy and evidenced based physical therapy. I greatly enjoyed having the a specificity and sensitivity of most ortho special tests collected in one book. Moreover, i found the manual therapy techniques easy to understand and apply in clinic. I highly recommend this book to all who aspire to succeed in the ortho physical therapy arena!

Great book...I think 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I just thought I'd let future customers know that this book has some of the same questions as the second edition, not all though, so I think it's worth the investment. I have both and have found both to be helpful. I haven't used the CDs because I acquired the books from friends who lost the CDs, but the books are great. I haven't taken the test yet, but highly recommend these books from my experience so far.

Great Book 4 out of 5 stars.

Just took my exam a month ago and this was then only book I purchased. I would recommend this book to anyone who is preparing for the NBCOT exam. The CD in the back of the book is nice to have, but I found the book itself to work better.

Editorial Review:

Tell your students to prepare for the computerized NBCOT OTR exam with the book that comes with a money-back guarantee that they will pass the test! Over 1,000 review questions in five practice examinations help identify areas of weakness and improve students' test taking performance. The questions help them become familiar with the format of the questions in the actual examination.
