Essential reading for strength training. 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have a huge collection of books, many on strength training and fitness, this is the one I refer to most frequently.
This book is only about muscle anatomy as relates to strength training. As such it really helps you to focus your energy to where you need it. and I add that I think the book is helpful in preventing many injuries.

An excellent resource! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is an excellent resource for people wanting to know how to customize their workouts to target specific muscles and muscle groups. The information is presented in detailed, accurate pictures with concise text. It's not difficult to read. Use it more as reference material than as a front-to-back read-through. My young son has even learned some anatomy by browsing through this book.

Editorial Review:

Discover for yourself the magic of Strength Training Anatomy, one of the best-selling strength training books ever published! Training Anatomy, with nearly half a million copies already sold, brings anatomy to life with more than 400 full-color illustrations. This detailed artwork showcases the muscles used during each exercise and delineates how these muscles interact with surrounding joints and skeletal structures. Like having an X-ray for each exercise, the information gives you a multilateral view of strength training not seen in any other resource.

Wynn Kapit graduated in 1955 from the University of Miami, Florida with honors in Business Administration and Law. He then attended Art Center School in Los Angeles and worked in New York as a graphic designer and advertising art director from 1960-66. He moved to California to pursue a painting career and was given a one-man show at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco in 1968. He then attended the University of California at Berkeley and received a Masters in Painting and worked as a portraitist and teacher of figure drawing.

While taking a class in human anatomy at San Francisco City College, he discovered a way to effectively learn the subject by coloring in drawings, diagrams and names. The teacher of the course, Lawrence Elson, Ph.D. agreed to help him produce a coloring book. Elson wrote and Kapit designed and illustrated The Anatomy Coloring Book, which was published in 1977 and has been a widely-translated bestseller ever since. The Physiology Coloring Book was published in 1987, with the assistance of two professors from Berkeley: Robert Macey and Esmail Meisami. The Geography Coloring Book was published in 1991; Kapit drew the maps and wrote the text. The Anatomy Coloring Book was published in a second edition in 1993, and second editions of Geography and Physiology Coloring Books will be published in 1997.

Lawrence M. Elson received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley in Zoology (Pre-Med), and completed his graduate and Ph.D. work in Human Anatomy also at the University of California, Berkeley. Elson has served as an instructor in human anatomy at the City College of San Francisco, an assistant professor of anatomy at Baylor College of Medicine, and as a lecturer at numerous additional universities and professional organizations.

Elson is the founder and president of Coloring Concepts, Inc. (CCI), producer and packager of college level, educational, scientific directed-coloring texts. He is the author/co-author of the Anatomy Coloring Book, Human Brain Coloring Book, Zoology Coloring Book, and Microbiology Coloring Book.

Presently, he is principally functioning as a clinical and forensic anatomist retained as a consultant to governments, provinces, insurance and other corporations, and law firms on causation of injury issues in cases in or anticipated to be involved in litigation.

Future plans include expanding CCI by developing new titles in the physical sciences and other education-related disciplines.

Great study tool 5 out of 5 stars.

They're great! Origin, insertion, action and innervation are all on the back of the muscle cards, and plenty of information on the others. These are well worth the money during those long gross anatomy study sessions. Highly recommend. =)

Fantastic for med students 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is a med student's best friend. I was having a difficult time learning anatomy from Netter, and hated spending time in the cadaver lab, so this book really saved me. I also like how the labels are numbered, with the answers on the bottom of the page, so you can cover them and quiz yourself.

best atlas, has nothing on netter's 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

everyone raves about netters but last i checked the human body was actually a confusing mass of vessles, nerves and muscles and not picture perfect. yokochi's photographs help you get ready for any lab practical, show multiple views of everything and it's really great b/c if the axillary artery shows up every time the thorax is being shown, even if it's just off to the side in the arm, it's labeled every time, from every angle. that's the best part, multiple views and nothing is left out just because it doesn't fit into the section, it it's there, it's labeled.

Editorial Review:

This atlas includes full-color photographs of actual cadaver dissections instead of idealized illustrations, to accurately and realistically represent anatomical structures. Often used by students as an alternative or supplement to their lab experience, and as an introduction to exactly what they should see before they dissect, as well as a study aid before practical/identification exams.

Neuroanatomy: the highlights 4 out of 5 stars.

A brief overview of neuroanatomy in a clinical setting that makes a difficult subject accessible in an outline form.

Great reference book 4 out of 5 stars.

I'm in the process of preparing for neuropsych boards and this book has been a great reference for me. It helps explain concepts so that they are easier to retain for later recall. I recommend this book for anyone studying for boards or will be working with students and residents.

Excelent summary 5 out of 5 stars.

The book is an excrelent summary especially useful for first or second u=year sutidents of medice

it really is ridiculously simple 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I had to get this book for class, and I only found it slightly useful. I had some problems in class understanding the different spinothalamic tracks, and I went to this book when nothing else was making sense. It did help me finally understand that whole part of neuroanatomy, however it probably took me an hour to get all the useful information from the book and 30 min to do the CD. (The CD was helpful but not nearly enough.) Basically, it was a very good opening book when I was confused, but I quickly had to turn to High Yield to actually learn something.

Editorial Review:

This now-classic text presents the most relevant points in clinical neuroanatomy with mnemonics, humor and case presentations. The book now includes and interactive CD with a lab section, 3D rotations, interactive anatomy, tutorial on neurologic localization, and quiz. Third edition.

An excellent visual anatomy reference 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Anatomy of Movement is a reference book consisting mostly of diagrams of the body's muscles, bones and joints, along with brief descriptions of how they work together to create movement. The drawings are easy on the eye and excellent in helping to understand how the joints are put together and how they function. It is especially helpful to see each muscle, bone and joint isolated, allowing you to study and understand them individually in contrast to texts that show them all at once. I would highly recommend this book for personal trainers, fitness instructors, sports conditioners, anatomy students, beginning bodyworkers, and others who are interested in a visual representation of the body's anatomy.

Editorial Review:

Anatomy of Movement presents a dynamic, integrated approach to the study of the physical structures of the musculoskeletal system and their functional relationship to the movements of the human body. In clear and concise text illustrated with more than a thousand graphic drawings, the author guides the reader on a lively tour of the muscles, bones, ligaments and joints of the arms, legs and trunk. The focus throughout the book is on anatomy not for its own sake, but in its functional relationship to the actual movements of the body in dance, exercise, and other physical disciplines. In this newly-revised edition, a majority of the thousand-plus illustrations are new or have been modified by the author from the original edition. The text has also been updated, and the sequencing of the presentation of the musculoskeletal anatomy has been revised in part.

Beautifully Illustrated 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I originally saw this book on one of the tables at Borders when it first came out a few months ago. I didn't purchase it then because the full price was around $40. Luckily, I checked Amazon and they had it one sale for around $23. It was a great price for a beautifully illustrated and informational book. The entirety is filled with maps, charts, and diagrams of the human body as you would likely find in a doctor's office. I've learned a lot from it, yet there were a couple mistake that were apparent, such as: a pie chart that was mislabeled in that 3 of the percentages were mixed up (a larger portion had a smaller amount, etc.). Other than that small mistake, it has been wonderful.

Editorial Review:

Revealing and detailing all aspects of the body, from the secrets of DNA to the functions of every major body system, this encyclopedic volume is packed with stunning and detailed visuals and includes a DVD that reveals all of the body's inner workings. Also includes accessible health and medical information that makes this book ideal for families, students, health professionals, or anyone who wants to learn more about the human body.

Good Text and small enough to travel with 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This text provides basically the same info as the big Moore book but is much easier to carry around and read through.

By far, not the best anatomy book 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book seemed like a nice quick read, but I found it rather insufficient for my anatomy course. The big Moore is much more elaborate and better suited for medical student. I ended up buying the the big Moore instead, which was great for thorax, abdomen, and pelvis. I wouldn't recommend it for head and neck or limbs--Snell's Clinical Anatomy for Medical Students is much better for that. Having both Moore and Snell is a lot of books, but it was well worth it for me.

Editorial Review:

Essential Clinical Anatomy, Third Edition presents the core anatomical concepts found in Clinically Oriented Anatomy, Fifth Edition in a concise, easy-to-read, and student-friendly format. This streamlined book is an excellent review for the larger text and an ideal primary text for health professions courses with brief coverage of anatomy. This edition features new full-color surface anatomy photographs and new diagnostic images. A new design makes the book visually appealing and easier to navigate. Accompanying the book is an Online Student Resource Center, which includes interactive clinical cases, USMLE-style review questions, and more.

Excellent book plagued with inconsistencies. 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is a very nice, dense, textbook of anatomy for serious anatomy students (e.g. future surgeons) that I would give five stars were it not for inconsistencies and errors that plague the book. No, there are not 12 cervical vertebrae! That is the most obvious error I've found so far. There are several, but considering the size and density of the text the number of plain errors is not grossly out of proportion. The more serious offense this book commits, in my opinion, is to disagree with itself, which can seriously hinder learning the material. Often, Moore will say one thing in the text, another in the summary text, and yet another in the illustrations he refers to! For example, Moore says that the right bronchial artery often is a branch of the 3rd posterior intercostal artery, but the illustration he refers the reader to clearly shows the right bronchial artery as a branch of the FIFTH posterior intercostal artery. In the abdomen chapter, Moore says the arterial supply to the anterolateral abdominal wall includes 11th posterior intercostal artery, but the table and illustration referred to also includes the 10th posterior intercostal artery.

I'm sure that some of these discrepancies can be chalked up to normal anatomical variations, but for God's sake tell us that or we have no way of knowing whether it is an error or variation! Anyway, these discrepancies happen with a high enough frequency that it warrants a two star deduction on an otherwise pristine textbook of anatomy.

Editorial Review:

Clinically Oriented Anatomy, Fifth Edition provides first-year medical and allied health students with the clinically oriented anatomical information that they need in study and practice. This book is renowned for its comprehensive coverage of anatomy, presented as it relates to the practice of medicine, dentistry, and physical therapy. This latest edition is fully updated with new content and additional features, including new surface anatomy and updated diagnostic images, new "Bottom Line" summaries that reinforce important concepts, and new clinical "Blue" boxes. Two bound-in CD-ROMs contain interactive case studies, USMLE-style review questions, and layered, rotatable anatomical illustrations generated from three-dimensional models of MRI images.
