The best option... 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I feel that this is the best currently available option for ObGyn clerkship. Easy read and sufficient for passing mock boards - good luck!

Perfect! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is perfect for clinical rotations in OB/GYN. Although most blueprints are very helpful, this is my favorite out of the series because it gives you everything you need to know for your exams and clerkship, as well as helpful review questions in the end (like all blueprints). Very easy to read. I carried it with me throughout my rotation and excelled on the test.

Editorial Review:

More than just a Board review for USMLE Steps 2 and 3, Blueprints Obstetrics and Gynecology, Fourth Edition can help you during clerkship rotations and subinternship. This popular Blueprints book has been refined and updated while keeping the concise, organized style and clinical high-yield content of previous editions. Features include USMLE-style questions and answers with full explanations; Key Points in every section; and a color-enhanced design that increases the usefulness of figures and tables. This edition's completely revised art program includes many additional illustrations. Each chapter in this edition ends with evidence-based references (journals) for students to do additional reading/research.

awesome 5 out of 5 stars.

this book is very useful for med school clinical years. provides a great overview that is brief and very useful on the wards. highly recommended.

A nice refresher of concepts. 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is a good book to have in your collection of medical references. It is concise and bulleted with pertinent information for wards, as the name suggests, as well as studying for the USMLE. It is easy to understand and easy to navigate when searching for something very specific. It is a small book but not small enough to carry in your white coat during rounds unless you have big pockets or if your pockets are empty, (most medical professionals I know don't have their pockets empty due to all the crap we have to carry), you might be able to fit it in there snuggly. All in all its a good book to have as a refresher or reference but i don't find it's good enough to use as the only resource when studying for USMLE.

Editorial Review:

This Third Edition of Boards and Wards: A Review for USMLE Steps 2&3 offers the information necessary to conquer the USMLE. This essential review book, written in a succinct, high-yield outline format, features board-formatted questions and answers with detailed explanations, and covers each discipline of medicine appearing on the USMLE Steps 2 and 3, including dermatology, radiology, and ophthalmology. Numerous tables, illustrations, and "buzzwords" aid in retention of facts. Boards and Wards: A Review for USMLE Steps 2&3, Third Edition is perfect for medical students. Physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and related health professionals will also find Boards and Wards valuable.

Get it for Step I 'cause First Aid doesn't cut it 5 out of 5 stars.
17 of 17 people found this review helpful.

First Aid is money for most subjects, but it's weak on neuro. This book is a very good balance between too little and too much for this overwhelming subject. The High Yield series keeps improving in quality, and in the newest edition is even better at showing clinical scenarios and integrating other subjects like pathology or physiology (I used an older version and it's still pretty good, though).

I would like to say this is great for course work, but at least at my school they tended to test on obscure minituae hard to find anywhere.

This is all you should need for Step, which does feature a decent dose of neuro (about 10, more like 20 questions). It's also very good at developing as essential foundation of knowledge applicable for future use, which sometimes gets lost when scrambling to cram for course exams.

My big qualm is the pricing. It's a thin book, not a main text. Use the library, borrow it from a friend, split the cost, etc. High Yield makes a nice line of books but they need to trim prices for medical students.

Editorial Review:

High-Yield Neuroanatomy, the best-selling book in the series, extracts the most important information on neuroanatomy and presents it in a concise, uncluttered fashion to prepare students for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). It is neuroanatomy "at its irreducible minimum" and is also used for course review.

Not the primary source for personal trainer certification 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this review thinking it was a primary source for the ACSM PT cert. It isn't. They mention it on the ACSM website. The first book they mention (ACSM's resources for the personal trainer...) is the actual primary resource. I wanted to get this book because it was cheaper and did not have the idiotic looking picture on the front like the "resources" book does. Then I had to spend more money to go back and get the dumb-looking resources book. Apparently the book is intended for other certifications in particular like exercise testing and maybe even the group fitness teaching cert. So as for my recommendation, if you are studying for the PT certification and have some background that makes you comfortable with fitness/health knowledge and you just want to know what ACSM wants you to know to pass the test, then get the "resources" book only and save the money on this one (BTW, I have not taken the test yet so that isn't a fully tested recommendation). If you are afraid of not passing, then this study material may be helpful to you.

Editorial Review:

ACSM's Certification Review is a review manual for candidates wanting an ACSM credential including ACSM's Health and Fitness Certification, ACSM's Clinical Certification, or ACSM's Registry for Clinical Exercise Physiology. The book combines content from the first editions of ACSM's Health and Fitness Certification Review and ACSM's Clinical Certification Review into one resource. Content is based on the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) found in ACSM's Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, Seventh Edition. Each chapter presents an outline-format review and ends with certification-type questions and answers. The book includes two comprehensive practice exams to test the reader's knowledge.

Rapid Review Series: the in-thing 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I have heard so much about the RR series, and I decided to give it a try, and boy, was I impressed? Talk about how splendiferous this RR Biochemistry is. Also, I have heard so much about Goljan, Goljan, Goljan. So within 5 days or so of laying my hands on the RR Biochem, I ordered for the Pathology brother written by Goljan. They say the man sure knows how to tie Path, Biochem, etc together. I can't wait to get my hands on that as well. RR Biochem rocks, and I am now almost certain RR Path rocks more, if what I hear from reviews follows

realistic 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 8 people found this review helpful.

although i agree that the kaplan q bank and usmle-world are invaluable resources for step one, i personally hate hate HATE to study on the computer. this book was a good solution. i found it true to the exam, and suited me and my need to have something physically in front of me to scribble on. solidly reviewing the questions in this book -- 2 or 3 times -- would be a good basis for taking step 1.

Excellent book, one of the best I've used in med school 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I read this book cover to cover for my cardio theme. It was clear and well written. I would recommend it highly to anyone in medical school who wants a clear easy read. It has all the detail you need to know, without extraneous material.

Editorial Review:

Completely rewritten and updated for its Fourth Edition, this best-selling text is a comprehensive, clear, concise, and easy-to-understand introduction to cardiovascular diseases. It is written by internationally recognized Harvard Medical School faculty and select medical students, and is the best text to bridge basic physiology with clinical care of patients. This edition provides updated coverage of pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, pathophysiology of acute coronary syndromes, mechanisms of heart failure, molecular mechanisms of dysrhythmias, the genomic basis of cardiomyopathies and congenital heart disease, and pharmacology. Numerous new illustrations are included. A companion Website on thePoint will include animations and audio heart sounds.

Grant's Dissector 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This dissector is concise and to the point of what you need to dissect on the human body for gross anatomy. I also like it because it gives clinical correlations and describes areas of the body that might be obscure in understanding. It also refers you to plates in the leading human anatomy atlases for reference.

Editorial Review:

Since 1940, when Dr. J.C. Boileau Grant created the first lab manual based on Grant's method of dissection, Grant's Dissector has clearly established its authority and preeminence as the "gold standard" of gross anatomy dissection manuals. In the last edition, the material was streamlined to focus on more accurate, specific and clear steps, based on market conditions and feedback. This edition continues to focus on the trend of reduced lab hours yet maintains the quality and reliability of Grant's original manual. Grant's Dissector, Fourteenth Edition features over 40 new figures to provide consistent appearance and include additional details, and is cross-referenced to the leading anatomy atlases, including Grant's, Netter's, Rohen, and Clemente.
