good overall idea, BUT... 3 out of 5 stars.
23 of 29 people found this review helpful.

First I will give the author due credit for her general ideas on natural rearing, caution of over-vaccination, recommendation of a natural raw diet and advice to provide plenty of exercise, sunshine and love.

With that said, some of her suggestions are iffy at best:

The suggestion to not spay and neuter is very ignorant. Overpopulation in dogs and cats leads to euthanasia, homeless pets, pets with bad homes because they were given away to anybody, etc, etc. There is no side effect of spaying and neutering that even comes close to being as harmful to our pets as the side effects of overpopulation.

The author recommends burying meat in the backyard as a healthful alternative to freezing.

She recommends feeding grains with the raw bones, so that the grains can protect the stomach/intestines from any sharp bone fragments. To expect that to work is just silly, and dogs do not need grains in their diets.

She recommends feeding dried fruits, specifically including raisins, but raisins are toxic to dogs!

She recommends red raspberry leaf for pregnant females but this has been scientifically proven to cause a higher fetal mortality rate, and it induces uterine contractions which is not always a good thing.

She does have some good advice, but I wouldn't blindly trust all of the information contained in this book. Natural rearing is best for your dog, but definitely do your own research and make your own informed decisions.

Editorial Review:

Dog and cat owners are becoming increasingly concerned about the saftey of processed pet food and the possible side-effects of over-use of antibiotics and hormone treatments. This new edition, thoroughly revised and updated, covers Natural Rearing, herbal medicine and disease prevention.

Editorial Review:

This fascinating book is a valuable guide for farmers and the general public concerned about the overuse of nonnatural medicine, herbicides, and insecticides in farm management and animal husbandry. The author, Juliette de Baïracli Levy, offers detailed directions for treating all farm animals with natural methods, while stating her evidence that "mechanized" farming methods have led to the demise of domesticated animals' overall health. She asserts that poor and inadequate natural habitat, unnatural feeding practices, and a reliance on medicine to fight individual symptoms of disease without addressing the whole animal have weakened farm animals' innate disease-fighting ability. Her argument for a return to reliance on the natural and away from the synthetic and artificial rearing and feeding methods of farm animals becomes more urgent and relevant given the outbreaks of "mad cow disease" and other ailments caused by these practices. This book, used in conjunction with proper consultation with a veterinarian, can help animal owners and farmers move back to natural and healthy farming practices. --Julia King

I really like this book, very useful! It came in excellant condition!

Editorial Review:

The three resources that make up this learning package present a wealth of information about the principals of pharmacology and the various classifications of drugs and their uses. The publication, along with two CD-ROMs and on-line resources, employs easy-to-understand explanations, illustrations, case studies, Tech Tips, and review questions to help the reader understand complex biological processes involving the use of pharmaceuticals. An extensive math review helps those who lack confidence in that area refresh their skills and prepare to apply them in the clinical setting. The presentation of drugs by category and a short review of anatomy and physiology at the beginning of each chapter help the reader retain important information regarding the use of pharmaceuticals in veterinary practice. Finally, the extensive use of charts serves as a valuable resource for new and seasoned veterinary technicians.

Indispensable guide for using Bach Remedies with your pets 5 out of 5 stars.
62 of 62 people found this review helpful.

As a caretaker of six cats and a dog, I have used Bach Remedies for years with my animals but I've always had to refer to books focusing on the use of the remedies with humans. This book has come to my rescue and I especially like that there are separate chapters on cats and dogs. There is also a separate chapter on use of the remedies wih horses.

The best feature of the book is the second chapter "Using the remedies" where the authors spell out the animal behaviors that can indicate a need for each of the 38 remedies. For example, Crab Apple is the remedy for cleansing and is indicated for a animal who does excessive grooming or chews on its fur or feathers.

The only negative aspect for me, as an American, is the very British slant in the resources lists and in the case studies. However, that is a small complaint in the overall usefulness of this title.

Editorial Review:

This is the definitive guide to treating animals with the Bach Flower Remedies. It includes a complete introduction to the Bach system and its usefulness in treating animals, followed by guidance on using the remedies for a variety of conditions.

Needed the refresher... 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Love the examples in this book. They are very "real world" and usefull. I used it to refresh my math skills.

A Book 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Though this is a good book, I wouldn't buy it if it wasn't required by the class I am taking. It doesn't really explain much, and I assume that is because they assume it is just a refresher.

No answer key 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The book contained no answer key to check to see if I grasped the concepts in each chapter. There was no way to check my work. I wish I had not spent the money on this book.

Editorial Review:

The essential pocket-size reference for veterinary health care professionals, veterinary students, and veterinary technicians covers math fundamentals, metric and non-metric conversions, dosing and concentration, IV drug infusion, prescriptions, and doctors' orders. It provides step-by-step procedures for calcuating dosages, drip rates, concentrations, and other drug administration, plus exercises using copies of actual medication labels from veterinary practices for students to practice calcuating dosages accurately.
