Compliment 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I'd like to compliment June A. Boon, author of "Manual of Veterinary Echocardiography". I really appreciated the didactic planning-out, the accuracy in the details explanation, the coherence and iconography. The mastery of the subject and the will to teach the beginner come out from the reading. It's, with no doubt, the only manual that allows everybody to approach this science even as a self-taught person. A big 'hi' to June, David, Denali and Logan.

Excellent Text 5 out of 5 stars.

A must buy for the serious clinician. Written by the leading authority in Echcardiology this text is well organized and a timely presentation of the material. Don't let your reference library be without it!

Editorial Review:

Ultrasound equipment is gradually becoming more affordable, and the process is accurate and noninvasive. Thus, ultrasound can be a very lucrative skill for the clinician. In this text, detailed guidelines are provided for the proper use and interpretation of diagnostic echocardiograms in all domestic species, making this text of interest to all veterinary practitioners involved in this rapidly expanding area.

Invaluable practice reference 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Nyland's Veterinary Diagnostic Ultrasound is an invaluable addition to my hospital library. I was initially introduced to this volume as a fourth-year Veterinary Student in Radiology/Ultrasound. After graduation, I made sure to purchase a personal copy for reference in private practice. It is filled with easy-to-understand illustrations of different imaging views of the heart and abdominal organs. I recommend keeping a copy of Nyland within easy reach of the clinic ultrasound for quick-reference during scans.

Editorial Review:

Small Animal Diagnostic Ultrasound outlines the basic physical principles of ultrasound, as well as imaging artifacts and the use of ultrasonography, in a logical body-systems approach. This second edition is completely revised and up-to-date, detailing current developments in ultrasonography. Two completely new chapters on thoracic and musculoskeletal ultrasound, as well as revised coverage of cardiology, CT/MR, and the reproductive system make this edition even more useful and clinically relevant. Full-color illustrations and color Doppler images of abdominal organs enhance and clarify discussions in the text.

Editorial Review:

This new version of Frances Barr's classic introductory text, Diagnostic Ultrasound in the Dog and Cat, has now been revised and expanded to cover the considerable technological and knowledge based advances since the first book was published in 1990. With contributions from leading subject experts, this new book covers both the theoretical principles behind the use of ultrasound in small animal practice and the practical approach to image interpretation.

In-keeping with the user-friendly style of Frances Barr's book, the book is extensively illustrated with photographs and accompanying line drawings. Organised around body systems, each chapter covers imaging procedures, normal appearances, abnormal appearances/diseases and specific conditions. Exotic animals, such as rabbits and reptiles are also included, as are new Doppler techniques.

This practical guide is essential reading for all those involved in small animal imaging.

Editorial Review:

This is the veterinary version of Aids to Radiological Differential Diagnosis by Chapman and Nakielny. The main aim of the book is to provide lists of differential diagnoses for radiological signs to help practitioners with logical interpretation of radiographs. Because the level of radiological knowledge and expertise of veterinary general practitioners is relatively low (compared with specialist radiologists), each chapter begins with a description of normal radiographic appearance. In order to help practitioners plan how to narrow down a list of differentials or confirm a diagnosis, suggestions for contrast studies and further diagnostic tests are listed. There is a smaller chapter on ultrasonographic signs which is structured in the same way as the radiology section. Another chapter gives lists of the radiological and ultrasonographic features of a selection of common conditions.

Editorial Review:

Abdominal Radiology for the Small Animal Practitioner - an addition to the Made Easy Series.

From the preface of the book - "It is the hope of this book to help the reader learn to transform a radiograph from a flat black and white picture to a 3 dimensional image with multiple shades of grey to visualization of the abdomen which it represents. This text will describe the normal appearance of the abdomen, ways in which the radiographic appearance changes to reflect disease, basic radiographic techniques, and common abdominal disorders. The text is meant to be a handy cookbook which can be quickly grabbed from the shelf rather than a comprehensive volume which would require intensive study."

This is a practical presentation of the uses and interpretations of abdominal plain film for the small animal practitioner. Among the 172 pages there are 250 radiographs, 6 black & white photos and 2 tables.

Editorial Review:

Today’s horse owner counts on veterinarians to practice state-of-the-art equine medicine. Comparative Ultrasonographic Imaging of Equine Lameness is richly detailed to assist the practice veterinary practitioner in determining the accurate diagnoses and targeted treatments that the clients expect.

Beautifully illustrated with superior color and black-and-white illustrations. This volume familiarizes the veterinarians with the possibilities for sonography through a broad selection of views showing normal and abnormal conditions. Chapters include comparisons with radiographic surveys, contrast images, and computer tomographies and describe the complementary value and limits of those procedures. Text contains specific case discussions, with particular emphasis on „borderline“ cases.
