Excellent, Honest 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is interesting and well written. MaryRose Occhino talks about some of the challenges in her life, and her upbringing in a large family. In 1992 she developed multiple sclerosis. She describes how that disease affected her physically, but also augmented her psychic gifts.

MaryRose's psychic journey took a sudden turn with the 9/11 attack, and soon she was flooded with requests for her talents, and eventually achieved a great deal of exposure. These encounters and developments eventually led to her being tested by Gary Schwartz, M.D., of the University of Arizona, in double blind experiments. MaryRose was found to be extremely gifted, with results that astounded many.

This book is full of fascinating examples of Mary's gifts on display, her dialogues with those who have passed into the afterlife, and her constant amazement and appreciation for what she experiences. Her humility shines through.

Editorial Review:

Born to a family of "intuitive" women, MaryRose Occhino uses her "celestial whispers" to open the minds and the hearts of everyone who has sought out her remarkable abilities as a link to loved ones who have passed on. But her powers also became her connection to the outside world-both real and spiritual-after she struggled through an isolation that grew out of her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis at the age of thirty-nine.

Filled with startling revelations, this fascinating book is also MaryRose's own inspiring true story-from the recognition of her gifts as a child, to their nurturing by her mother and grandmother, to her current standing as an extraordinary psychic medium who uses her abilities to help us see beyond the walls, and beyond the limits...not only to look into the next world, but to make the most of life in the here and now.

Editorial Review:

A dramatic and literate introduction to one of the twentieth century's most influential and intriguing spiritual teachers.

Born in the shifting border between Turkey and Russia in 1866, G. I. Gurdjieff is a man who would continually straddle borders-between East and West, between man and something higher than man, between the ancient teachings of esoteric schools and the modern application of those ideas in contemporary life.

In many respects-from the concept of group meetings to the mysterious workings of the enneagram to his critique of humanity as existing in a state of sleep-Gurdjieff pioneered the culture of spiritual search that has taken root in the West today. While many of Gurdjieff's students-including Frank Lloyd Wright, Katharine Mansfield, and P. D. Ouspensky-are well known, few understand this figure possessed of complex writings and sometimes confounding methods.

In Gurdjieff: An Introduction to His Life and Ideas, the acclaimed novelist John Shirley-one of the founders of the cyberpunk genre-presents a lively, reliable explanation of how to approach the sage and his ideas. In accessible, dramatic prose Shirley retells that which we know of Gurdjieff's life; he surveys the teacher's methods and the lives of his key students; and he helps readers to enter the unparalleled originality of this remarkable teacher.

Editorial Review:

A brilliant scientist, passionate poet, and political dissident, Jack Parsons (1914-1952) was one of the most enigmatic figures in history. In Sex and Rockets, John Carter divulges the life of a genius and self-proclaimed Antichrist in a biography that reads like science fiction. Using in-depth research including interviews with Parson's peers, Carter offers an intriguing portrait of this dark figure shrouded in cultish myth, from his childhood to his mysterious death in 1952.

Parsons cofounded the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), led the Agape Lodge of Aleister Crowley's Ordo Templi Orientis (OTO), and mingled with notable scientists, thinkers, and writers of his day, including Ray Bradbury, L. Ron Hubbard, and Robert A. Heinlein. Among Parsons' hobbies — including explosives and solid rocket fuels — was the avid practice of magical rituals in the vein of Aleister Crowley. Carter initiates readers into the world of angels and demons, magical languages, and numerology used.

Editorial Review:

Gordon Smith, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, is the proverbial seventh son of a seventh son. His outstanding abilities as a medium—or messenger from the spirit world—have led him to be dubbed "The UK’s most accurate medium."

Gordon has brought comfort and healing to thousands of people through the messages he’s delivered from the other side. He’s traveled to many parts of the world to appear before audiences, has read for many celebrities, and has been featured in television documentaries, but his feet have remained firmly on the ground. Refusing to ever charge for a private reading, Gordon still works in his barbershop in the west end of Glasgow.

Gordon has proven his abilities to scientists exploring the nature of mediumship, and has astounded them with the consistency and accuracy of his messages.

In this often humorous book, Gordon tells his own story of life as a messenger for the spirit world and shares his commonsense advice for avoiding charlatans and finding a true connection to Spirit.

Editorial Review:

Set during the French and American wars, Fourth Uncle in the Mountain is a true story about an orphan, Quang Van Nguyen, who is adopted by a sixty-four year old monk, Thau, who carries great responsibility for his people as a barefoot doctor. Thau manages, against all odds to raise his son to follow in his footsteps and in doing so, saves his son, as well as a part of Vietnam's esoteric knowledge from the Vietnam holocaust.

Thau is wanted by the French regime, and occasionally must flee into the jungle, where he is perfectly at home living among the animals. Thau is not the average monk; he practices an ancient lineage of Chinese medicine and uses magic to protect animals and help people.

As wise and resourceful as Thau is, he meets his match in his mischievous son. Quang is more interested in learning Cambodian sorcery and martial arts than in developing his skills and wisdom according to his father's plan.

Fourth Uncle in the Mountain is an odyssey of a single-father folk hero and his foundling son in a land ravaged by the atrocities of war. It is a classic story, complete with humor, tragedy, and insight from a country where ghosts and magic are real.

Editorial Review:

In 1972 Dean Kraft was an average guy, unsure of what to do with his life--until a string of strange events occurred, and a new path unfolded before his disbelieving eyes. It began with a series of unexpected and unexplained incidents, culminating in an astonishing revelation: Dean possessed the power to heal with his hands. He healed strangers first, acting more out of instinct than conscious decision. He felt compelled to reach out, to touch, to ease suffering. Word of his incredible ability spread, first to neighbors and friends, then to doctors and the media. His practice grew, and in time his list of clients came to include celebrities such as Yoko Ono, John Lennon, Ethel Merman, and Frank Zappa. Over the years, Dean has continued to heal, often bringing life and hope to those who have exhausted the efforts of contemporary medicine. He has encountered believers and skeptics alike, at times struggling with a skepticism of his own. The subject of numerous scientific studies, time and again he has demonstrated abilities beyond the scope of scientific explanation. In the most fascinating study, by Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and repeated by The Science Unlimited Research Foundation, Dean was repeatedly able to kill deadly HeLa cancer cells, sealed in glass flasks, simply by holding the flasks in his hands. Authenticated by scientific testing and duplicated by no one else, these studies and tests led Dean to share his story and his knowledge with others. A Touch of Hope chronicles the life of this remarkable man and reveals his powerful laying-on-of-hands techniques. Included in the book are the most commonly asked questions about Dean Kraft's work and other healing methods; a blue print to help readers heal themselves; and an illustrated series of exercises for those who want to learn his healing methods.

Editorial Review:

She was one of the most important psychics of the twentieth century. Over 7.5 million copies of her books have sold throughout the world. Now, Speaking of Jane Roberts reveals the story of a woman as fascinating as the material she produced.

Susan Watkins and Jane Roberts were friends for sixteen years. Early on, Seth, the entity who spoke through Roberts, told the two women that they were counterparts, connected in this particular lifetime to work out some shared personal issues. In addition to being a compassionate and sometimes painfully honest look at Roberts' life---her difficult childhood, her constant questioning of psychic abilities and sources of creativity, her resistance to Seth's advice, her dramatic struggles with her health---Speaking of Jane Roberts is also a beautiful and applicable illustration of the counterpart relationship. The connection that Watkins and Roberts share reveals something important about the power and mystery of the connections we all share with the people closest to us.

A Mother's Christian Love 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this book after listening to the author on Coast to Coast, the nighttime radio talk show. I have read it twice over the space of about three years, and will no doubt read it yet again.

While Kathleen is criticized by other readers for her less than perfect writing skills, I saw in her words a Mother's love, and that transcends everything.

Fortunate to live in a time when we women could stay home and care for our children, and not have to work outside the home, Kathleen weaves the story of a young woman in her second marriage and a new baby. This is a woman who loved her young family deeply, obviously caring and nurturing for all her children.

Her Christianity became an underlying strength and led her in a fundamental search to understand what her eyes were seeing but did not understand. After all, faith is believing in what we know is real but cannot see.

If you are a skeptic, pass on this book, for it is not meant for your heart to read. If you have a mother's heart, read it. It is this simple.

Editorial Review:

2005 Coalition of Visionary Resources (COVR) 2nd Runner Up for Biographical/Self Help category!

In 1971, the author and her family moved into a historic home known as the Fontaine Manse. Two days after moving in, she and her husband had an extraordinary experience that left them with no doubt that unseen residents occupied the house, too.

This is the true story of how Kathleen McConnell came to know and care for the spirit children who lived in the attic of the mansion: Angel Girl, Buddy, and Baby. From playing ball with Kathleen, to saving her son Duncan from drowning, the spirit children became part of the McConnell family in ways big and small. Finally, a heart-wrenching dilemma triggered an unexpected and dramatic resolution to the spirit children's plight.

Don't Call Them Ghosts is an inspiring story of the transcendent and lasting power of a mother's love.

Good for fans of magic and the Golden Dawn 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

The Golden Dawn magical order was founded in 1888. Although it admitted women, they have been often overlooked in histories of the GD.Mary Greer redresses this oversight. The four women in question are Annie Horniman, actress and writer Florence Farr, freedom fighter for Ireland Maud Gonne and the mystical Moina Bergson Mathers.Greer claims that these women were the true heart and soul of the Golden Dawn, and it is hard not to agree with her. Each woman had exceptional talents, and each made her own unique contribution to this magical Order.Much research has gone into this book and it is packed with information not easily found on the subjects.Interesting details of some of the magical workings are given, including some by Maud Gonne and W.B.Yeats.The personal relationships, the bickering, the magic--it's all here.

Editorial Review:

These four remarkable women, core members of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, left a lasting imprint on the politics, literature, and theater of 19th-century Europe. Less well-known than the famous men in their lives, including Yeats and Shaw, their stories are now told.

A New Level 5 out of 5 stars.
14 of 14 people found this review helpful.

_Providence_ takes _Ishmael_ to a whole new level by explaining what you can do with yourself after _Ishmael_. Quinn explains that the reason for this work is to fill the void that _Ishmael_ leaves: if it shattered your beliefs (in a good way, of course), _Providence_ gives you something to take its place.

After reading Quinn's first four books, this was welcome, because for me, it fills the void that _Beyond Civilization_ tries to work into, but somehow fails. Many people complain that Quinn never tells you what to do wth these new ideas in his books, and here, he gives the reader ways that he has made them work. I found it very easy to take them and mesh them with my own interests. To find out Quinn's entire argument for saving ourselves and our planet, it's really necessary to read his five major books - if you read this one last, it brings the whole argument together nicely. He just doesn't give you an easy way out. You have to find it for yourself.

Editorial Review:

Providence is Quinn's fascinating memoir of his life-long spiritual voyage. His journey takes him from a childhood dream in Omaha setting him on a search for fulfillment, to his time as a postulant in the Trappist order under the guidance of eminent theologian Thomas Merton.  Later, his quest took him through the deep self-discovery of psychoanalysis, through a failed marriage during the turbulent and exciting 60s, to finding fulfillment with his wife Rennie and a career as a writer. In Providence Quinn also details his rejection of organized religion and his personal rediscovery of what he says is humankind's first and only universal religion, the theology that forms the basis for Ishmael.

Providence is an insightful book that address issues of education, psychology, religion, science, marriage, and self-understanding, and will give insight to anyone who has ever struggled to forge and enact a personal spirituality.
