First time reading through 5 out of 5 stars.

Yes, this is my first time reading through the chronicles of Narnia. This book was very exciting. Every page after page, I felt if I was really there from the first to the last page of the book. This is one of the most exciting books that I have ever read. I would encourge all of the adults plus children to read because you don't have to be young to enjoy this book you can be old as a parent or a grand parent and still feel excited about reading a novel like this.
It comes to my attention that this book is not in the order that the author has wrote it in but I have to say it makes an excitable story to read. This would make perfect birthday/christmas presnt for anyone who loves to read.

Fantastic 5 out of 5 stars.

These books are a must read for people of all ages. These books are an excellent way, especially for children, to introduce or become introduced to the ideas Christianity. In addition to that, they are excellent sources of entertainment. They are very fun to read and once you pick them up you will probably find them very hard to put down. Wonderful books to read for yourself or fantastic to give as gifts. There aren't enough good things I can say about these books.

Enlightening read for committed (and thinking) Christians 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I don't know how well this great book translates to agnostic readers, but for me it was a very enlightening and concrete way to understand what it means to try to be a good man in a world of temptation.

In keeping with the time period, I believe it was Winston Churchill who said "All evil needs to triumph is for good men to do nothing". In the Screwtape Letters the senior tempter, tells his apprentice, it is just as affective to get a man to stare into a fire until it turns to ash, as to get him to commit some great sin, because either keeps him from doing what he should. I wonder what Mr. Lewis would have thought of digital cable television? I am as guilty as anyone of staring at that box instead of doing good.

So here's the deal.

This is an excellent book for any believer from High School on up, that wants to be good and avoid evil.

But that's just me.

Editorial Review:

Now available unabridged on cassette and CD -- C.S. Lewis' classic Screwtape Letters -- the engaging correspondence between two devils.

Politicized Ratings Abound 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

No need here for another synopsis, rather a few words on the widely varying reviews. This isn't 'great literature' nor the finest whatever. What it is is a very interesting read with a fascinating premise. Those of you offended by any positive take on religion probably can't enjoy this. The book could reasonably be reviewed at 3-4 stars based on quality and certainly similar level books are often 'generously' rated at 5 stars by many of the more enthusiastic folks out there. But the 1 and 2 star reviews merely reflect the political 'axe to grind' anti-christian attitudes manifested by a ever growing crowd who apparently are more than ready to bring back book burning and perhaps their own modernized version of the Inquisition. Enjoy!

7 cassettes/ 11.75 hours (UNABRIDGED)

During a routine flight, airline pilot Rayford Steele is thinking about seducing a young flight attendant when suddenly over 100 of his passengers vanish! Now Rayford and the others left behind are faced with mass chaos and baffling personal loss. Among the remaining passengers is star reporter Buck Williams, who just got the assignment of a lifetime—find out what happened and why!

In this fascinating apocalyptic thriller, best-selling Christian inspirational authors LaHaye and Jenkins pool their considerable talents. Left Behind begins the gripping story that is now the best-selling inspirational series of all time. Actor Richard Ferrone provides the powerful, hard-edged narration for this thrilling unabridged audiobook.

Great story / devotional book for Advent 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This was our family's best Advent yet! Occasionally "Jotham's Journey" was a bit too action-packed for our daughter (age 5), but she and our son (age 8) couldn't wait for each day's segment. Arnold Ytreeide is a master storyteller. His intricate blending of facts about biblical times into a fast-paced storyline captured our imaginations. We'll never look at Advent the same again. Our family can't wait to read Ytreeide's other books in 2006 and beyond.

all around great 5 out of 5 stars.

accurate description of book, prompt service, and a great book in general- but especially for Advent and preparation for Christmas- I didn't want to stick to the Advent timeline they give because I wanted to keep reading

Editorial Review:

Arnold Ytreeide takes the whole family on an Advent journey in anticipation of Christmas. Day by day we follow the adventures of Jotham, a lad who has a very special relationship with Jesus that will be revealed at the end of this engaging story. With a nightly story that you can scarcely put down, a devotional thought, prayer and the lighting of the Advent candles, Jotham's Journey will draw your family closer together and near to Jesus, God-incarnate in the Child of Bethlehem.

Timeless 5 out of 5 stars.

I have recommended and/or given this book to many, many friends over the years since I first read it. I give it with a caveat: You must have a soft heart toward the Lord and a listening ear for what He will tell you as you read it. It is like no other book as it tells the allegorical tale of Much Afraid and her special traveling companions as she is lead to escape the dismal, loathsome valley she was born to. She encounters many trials and tribulations on her transforming journey -- but Help is ever present, even in the darkest times . . . and the end of the book -- a new beginning. Highly recommend this book!

Dian Layton has undertaken to retell Hannah Hurnard's timeless classic in an adaptation that makes it easier for children to understand, while at the same time remaining faithful to the original story.

Spiritual warfare 101 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is quite simply the best book I have read on spiritual conflicts and warfare. I was blessed immensely by it. Neil Anderson uses scripture, personal stories, and the warmth and understanding of a counselor to expose the darkness and lies of satan. After reading this I am much more aware of the enemy's schemes and am able to effectively combat the lies with the truth of God's word. The book itself is not a cure-all problem solver - it is a truth exposer and a pointer in the right direction. I highly recommend this and "Victory Over the Darkness" especially to Christians stuggling with depression, anxiety, fear, lust, or anger. I also highly recommend this book to any Christian seeking to understand spiritual warfare. I give Neil Anderson's books the highest possible recommendation.

A Joy for young and old to share 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Great stories to help love the old hymns even more. The music is the only children's singing I haven't felt nauseated listening too! Tastefully done and enjoyable to share with our children.

Great school resource too 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I have used this not only at home, but at school. The stories of the hymn writers are fascintating, and the children enjoy singing along with the cd. I've been amazed at the number of children who don't know My Country Tis of Thee. Each of the stories are short enough to be understood, but they always have a moral principal. Just a great resource for parents and Christian educators.

Hymn Book very interesting! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is well written and very interesting to my children of a wide range of ages. The accompanying CD is of very good quality and fun to sing along with. My children look forward to doing a hymn study.

Editorial Review:

This book reminds children of the real meaning behind Christmas carols--the birth of Jesus Christ. It introduces twelve carols and shares the stories behind each one. The enclosed CD contains fully orchestrated versions of the carols with children's voices.

planning to read it again 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is an interesting read for kids over the age of 10, and for adults as well. The main character depicts a Jewish teenager named Daniel living at the same time as Jesus. Daniel is very disturbed over the Roman occupation of Israel and the death of his parents. The book provides an excellent forum to teach children about religious tolerance and getting along with others. The characters are complex, allowing for deep literary analysis, and the historical context is educational, something that adolescents will associate with, given their background in world history. The story is both endearing and stimulating, with an active plot. My 11 year old is planning to read it again.

Editorial Review:

In this Newbery Medal-winning novel, Daniel bar Jamin is fired by only one passion: to avenge his father's death by crucifixion by driving the Roman legions from his land of Israel. He joins an outlaw band and leads a dangerous life of spying, plotting, and impatiently waiting to seek revenge. Headstrong Daniel is devoid of tenderness and forgiveness, heading down a destructive path toward disaster until he hears the lessons taught by Jesus of Nazareth. With a brand new cover, young readers won't be able to pass up this timeless tale.

Why Christmas Trees Aren't Perfect 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a heart warming story about a small Christmas tree that is not perfect, because it shares from the heart.
This story was read to my child at school, and it was liked so much that she wanted one for Christmas.

A Wonderful Holiday Tale about Giving 5 out of 5 stars.

This book has a great message for young and old alike! This is a book for anyone who has performed acts of service and wondered, "Does it count for anything?" And the answer is yes. Every act of kindness has a lasting impact on the giver as well as the receiver.

This story is beautifully told and illustrated. This book is a great addition to any home library--it is the kind of book you want to own not just borrow from the public library.

Also recomended:Christmas Gifts, Christmas Voices--another poignant story about the rewards of giving...

Editorial Review:

This magnificently illustrated story of a warm-hearted Christmas tree will surely become one of the most beloved classics of future generations. Schneider's storytalling will enthrall children and adults alike.
