Kindle edition is quite poor 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 6 people found this review helpful.

The book is otherwise fabulous, but you should steer clear of the Kindle version. The Kindle handles charts poorly, and this book has a lot of them. Some are manageable, but many others contain small text that is so blurry that it might as well be written in Arabic. Quite honestly, it is not entirely clear to me how Amazon gets away with selling this item. The Kindle is great, but Amazon absolutely should not sell books that cannot actually be read on it.

Editorial Review:

The million-copy bestseller, revised and updated with new investment strategies for retirement and the insights of behavioral finance.

Updated with a new chapter that draws on behavioral finance, the field that studies the psychology of investment decisions, here is the best-selling, authoritative, and gimmick-free guide to investing. Burton G. Malkiel evaluates the full range of investment opportunities from stocks, bonds, and money markets to real estate investment trusts and insurance, home ownership, and tangible assets such as gold and collectibles. This edition includes new strategies for rearranging your portfolio for retirement along with the book's classic life-cycle guide to investing, which matches the needs of investors in any age bracket. A Random Walk Down Wall Street long ago established itself as a must-read, the first book to purchase before starting a portfolio, and it remains the best investing guide money can buy.

Praise for

Emerging Real Estate Markets

"In this book, you'll discover how to snatch real estate opportunities at low prices, before their value becomes common knowledge. Buy all the copies on the bookshelf before your competitor does!"
--Frank McKinney, "The Maverick Daredevil Real Estate Entrepreneur" and author of Frank McKinney's Maverick Approach to Real Estate Success

"I've never seen another real estate book even come close to laying out a profit road map the way this one does. If your local economy is too hot or too cold, Lindahl's guide will show you how to invest in the up-and-coming markets with the greatest profit potential."
--Stacy Kellams, President, www.RealEstateCourseReviews.com

"Lindahl shows you how to look into the future and see where the next hot real estate markets will be. It's the closest thing I've found to a real estate crystal ball."
--Jeff Adams, President, www.FreeRealEstateMentoring.com

"The brilliant thing about this book is Lindahl's approach to investing by 'remote control.' He has a real-world system for living in one place and making money from investments in another."
--William Bronchick, attorney and coauthor of Flipping Properties

"In the crowded field of real estate gurus, Lindahl stands head-and-shoulders above the rest. This book is must reading for any serious investor--beginner or veteran."

Editorial Review:

"Throughout the ages, many things have been used as currency: livestock, grains, spices, shells, beads, and now paper. But only two things have ever been money: gold and silver. When paper money becomes too abundant, and thus loses its value, man always turns back to precious metals. During these times there is always an enormous wealth transfer, and it is within your power to transfer that wealth away from you or toward you." --Michael Maloney, precious metals investment expert and historian; founder and principal, Gold & Silver, Inc.

The Advanced Guide to Investing Gold and Silver tells readers:

  • The essential history of economic cycles that make gold and silver the ultimate monetary standard.
  • How the U.S. government is driving inflation by diluting our money supply and weakening our purchasing power
  • Why precious metals are one of the most profitable, easiest, and safest investments you can make
  • Where, when, and how to invest your money and realize maximum returns, no matter what the economy's state
  • Essential advice on avoiding the middleman and taking control of your financial destiny by making your investments directly.

Hang in there for the later chapters 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I found the first half of this book rather disappointing in the same way as I found The Disciplined Trader: Developing Winning Attitudes disappointing. Too many babbling chapters that boil down to a simple point like "don't fight the market". Too much dodgy pseudo-science about negatively- and positively-charged energy, and too much reliance on non-trading analogies.

The book really redeemed itself in the later chapters with its points about thinking purely in terms of probabilities, expecting the unexpected (see also The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable), and accepting that you are fallible (see Soros).

This book will not give you a concrete strategy for beating the markets, except possibly this one: Approach trading like you were operating a casino. Bias the dice slightly in your favour (through fundamental analysis, pattern-spotting, or whatever) and if you roll (trade) enough times then you will generate consistent profits. Accept that in the meantime any one trade can go against you. Relax, and don't fight the market!

Tony Loton, author --
Financial Trading Patterns
DON'T LOSE MONEY! (in the Stock Markets)

Editorial Review:

Picking up where "The Disciplined Trader" left off, this book bridges the gap between thinking the market is actually doing something and actually making the trade. It is designed to give readers the insight and understanding they need about themselves and the nature of trading that will earn them constant success.

THE BUSINESSWEEK, USA TODAY, AND WALL STREET JOURNAL BUSINESS BESTSELLER!

The bestselling guide to buying stocks, from the founder of Investor's Business Dailynow completely revised and updated

When it was first published, How to Make Money in Stocks hit the investing world like a jolt, providing readers with the first in-depth explanation of William J. O'Neil's innovative CAN SLIM investing method. Five years later, O'Neil, founder for the industry icon Investor's Business Daily, revised his classic text and provided readers with a newer glimpse on how the average investor can make money in the equities market.

This third edition of How to Make Money in Stocks has been revised and updated with new chapters designed to help investors increase their performance. New discussions include:

  • Greater clarification of the key CAN SLIM investment strategy
  • Expanded analysis of the general market from the top of year 2000 to the market bottom of 2001
  • New models of the greatest stock market winners that provide more basis for the ongoing effectiveness and superior performance of the CAN SLIM strategy
  • Fresh stock charts featured in two colors for easier analysis of trends
  • And an invaluable guide on how to maximize both Investor's Business Daily and www.investors.com to find winning stocks

Like his international bestselling 24 Essential Lessons for Investment Success, which stayed on international business bestseller lists for close to 6 months in 2000, How to Make Money in Stocks is the best reference for the individual investor in how to stay afloat and ahead in the rocky and volatile equities markets of the 21st century.

MUST READ 5 out of 5 stars.

A must read. Read this book if you want to understand the severity of our economic crisis and the causes of it.

Editorial Review:

EXPLODING THE MYTHS ABOUT MONEY Our money system is not what we have been led to believe. The creation of money has been "privatized," or taken over by a private money cartel. Except for coins, all of our money is now created as loans advanced by private banking institutions -- including the private Federal Reserve. Banks create the principal but not the interest to service their loans. To find the interest, new loans must continually be taken out, expanding the money supply, inflating prices -- and robbing you of the value of your money. Web of Debt unravels the deception and presents a crystal clear picture of the financial abyss towards which we are heading. Then it explores a workable alternative, one that was tested in colonial America and is grounded in the best of American economic thought, including the writings of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln. If you care about financial security, your own or the nation's, you should read this book.

Not what I expected. 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I thought this book was an abreviated version of the full book, however this book is actually a miniture ~2inch micro-pocket version of the full book. Text is full size, thus it only contains a very few high-level comments. I was hoping for a boiled-down version, but got mini-me.

This book brought me to my senses. 4 out of 5 stars.

I was going to do some online trading and bought this book too learn more about selecting stocks. Mr. Lynchs' statement that he considered himself successful if 6 out 10 stocks he selected increased in value changed my mind. I want to thank him for waking me up. I will stick to index funds and wish all the online traders the best of luck.

The Classic Text Annotated to Update Graham's Timeless Wisdom for Today's Market Conditions

The greatest investment advisor of the twentieth century, Benjamin Graham taught and inspired people worldwide. Graham's philosophy of "value investing" -- which shields investors from substantial error and teaches them to develop long-term strategies -- has made The Intelligent Investor the stock market bible ever since its original publication in 1949.

Over the years, market developments have proven the wisdom of Graham's strategies. While preserving the integrity of Graham's original text, this revised edition includes updated commentary by noted financial journalist Jason Zweig, whose perspective incorporates the realities of today's market, draws parallels between Graham's examples and today's financial headlines, and gives readers a more thorough understanding of how to apply Graham's principles.

Vital and indispensable, this HarperBusiness Essentials edition of The Intelligent Investor is the most important book you will ever read on how to reach your financial goals.
