A ponderous, insightful guide to options strategy, but not for everybody 5 out of 5 stars.

I loved this book, written in a language that is easy to understand for non native speaking, like me.
A few points:

- this book is not for absolute beginners. Mr. McMillan indeed provides the basis for understanding options and the most known strategies, like spreads, strangle or similar. I would however direct the reader who is unaware of the basis to the other ponderous work of Mr. McMillan, Options as a strategic investment
- McMillan drives the willing reader to a thorough understanding of concepts/tools often misused, like volatility, put/call ratio, etc. Specifically, the third chapter is a truly inestimable (at least in my opinion) key to harness the predictive power of options.
- This is a no-hype book, if compared with the average of the sector. Mr. McMillan does not indulge or indulges only with tasteful sobriety in describing or promoting his professional services.
In conclusion:
Though if this book is not an easy reading, I would strongly urge the serious professional to read and re-read this book. It is really one of the few eye-opener books I've ever read in this domain.

This book is comprised of really good trading fundamentals and also some outside of the box trading concepts that will not only benefit the new trader, but the veterans as well. The book serves as a companion to the ART trading software, which by the way is one of the best trading software packages available at any price.

Excellent learning book for technical option learning 5 out of 5 stars.

This books explains most option constructions and how to calculate there potential profit. If you need to train yourself in spreads concepts, this training manual is for you. First the spread is explained and then some calculation examples are given. Don't expect a when to use these spreads manual. It's not there. This is a excellent book for training yourself in setting up all kind of option structures and know what the costs are and profits. Also all the Greeks are explained in detail, and the first manual that makes it understandable for me :-)

I have not seen any book that describes its domain with such generous detail and is geared for real life trading. The contents may not be enough for those who trade only financial energy instruments, but it is indeed a good course material for the market makers, and hedgers, namely end users and producers. I highly recommend this book to those who are involved in natural gas industry.

Even if you do not have a solid understanding of derivatives, this book is really good explaining step by step how the different derivatives are used for hedging natural gas; regardless if you are the producer, trader, or end user. The author gives many examples of how each derivative works. I highly recommend this book if you are starting out as a junior trader, risk products trader, supply planner, etc.

This book had so many errors and blatant contradictions it was more confusing than the genealogy of Jesus. It will have your head spinning so fast some may mistake you for Linda Blair! The author blitzes the reader with math and details the understanding of which simply is unnecessary in order to trade options and could easily intimidate someone new to trading. The excessive errors found throughout the text are inexcusable, especially for a technical book. When practical applications are finally covered in the final third of the book, we aren't presented with anything really interesting. The Iron Condor strategy is mentioned once earlier but is quickly dismissed in a condescending manner as if someone who could thread through all that math wouldn't easily pick up that relatively simple concept! If you are new to trading and don't want to be more confused after you read this book than before you picked it up, this one should be avoided.
