A good guide to ISDA MA 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

If you are a law school student eager to be a finance lawyer, a lawyer practicing in the finance, or a businessman who deals with financial derivatives, you probably need to read this book to know what the ISDA MA and Schedule is. The ISDA MA and the relative documents family are a kind of very 'Specified' matters so it is hard to find some appropriate information via online even on Google. This book is suitable for someone who is interested in, or needs to know the wordings and statements used in financial derivatives field. This book uses easy English and easy phrases so that a foreign reader like me can read without difficulties. I would give 5 stars unless my book is incorrectly collated. The pages from 243 to 274 has gone. I have no idea whether it is just my problem or not. I recommend you to buy this book if you have enough luck to choose a normal one.

Editorial Review:

This text provides a practical, clear and useful foundation for the fledgling negotiator with an overview of the legal, credit and operational issues inherent in the ISDA Master Agreements. It is used as the basis for training courses on the subject. This second edition follows the first major revision of the Agreement for ten years. The book includes full updates on the changes. Contents include: Introduction, The Evolution of the ISDA Master Agreement, the 1992 ISDA Master Agreement, the 2002 ISDA Master Agreement, Legal Issues Relating to the ISDA Master Agreement from the European & US Perspectives, Credit Issues Relating to the ISDA Master Agreement, Operational Issues, Special Provisions for Special Entities & Those Sought By US Counterparties, New Developments.

Editorial Review:

Seeing Systems is the most accessible, penetrating book available on the dynamics of systems. In it, Barry Oshry explains why so many efforts at creating more satisfying and productive systems end in disappointment, and proposes an entirely new framework for dealing with human behavior. Oshry shows us how teams of top executives regularly fall into turf battles with one another; why organizational improvement efforts inevitably create tensions between the "good" cooperative workers and the "bad" resistant ones; how marriages seemingly "made in heaven" disintegrate. Oshry demonstrates how these breakdowns in organizations result from our blindness to the human systems of which we are a part. Finally, he shows how powerful, productive, and satisfying partnerships are created when we are able to recognize and stop these destructive "dances", and create new ones in which we understand and are respectful of one another and can work in productive partnership. Seeing Systems takes us to a whole new level of understanding ourselves as human beings.

Teaching Review 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

The text from Lewicki, Barry, and Saunders is the most complete - and comprehensive - compilation of articles, cases, and exercises I've found in my teaching Negotiations at college, University, and corporate business.
The authors/editors have selected excellent articles from some of the foremost writers on Negotiation ... and coupled them with cases which highlight what you've just read. I have recommended it to friends, and continute to select it for graduate level courses in Negotiations. My students like the text, and plan to keep it on their shelves (rather than sell it back to the bookstore).

Editorial Review:

Negotiation is a critical skill needed for effective management. "Negotiation: Readings, Exercises, and Cases, 5/e" takes an experiential approach and explores the major concepts and theories of the psychology of bargaining and negotiation, and the dynamics of interpersonal and inter-group conflict and its resolution. It is relevant to a broad spectrum of management students, not only human resource management or industrial relations candidates. It contains approximately 50 readings, 32 exercises, 9 cases and 5 questionnaires.

The Most Comprehensive, Authoritative Negotiation Text Ever 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 17 people found this review helpful.

In my work as an attorney and mediator, and as a lecturer in negotiation and negotiation competition coach, I have read all of the "great" negotiation books written since "Getting to Yes". This 5th edition of "Negotiation" is head and shoulders above the rest of the crowd in a very crowded field.

The book is well-organized and well-researched, with and exellent bibliography and index. Of probably the greatest interest to most readers is Part 1, consisting of separate paragraphs treating in depth the nature of negotiation, the strategy and tactics of distributive bargaining, the strategy and tactics of integrative bargaining and negotiation strategy and planning. By looking at distributive and integrative bargaining as separate processes with their own goals and preparations, the authors have given us a useful diagnostic tool in appraching a negotiation situation.

I also appreciated the excellent treatment given to negotiation subprocesses and contexts and insights into rezolving the inevitable differences that arise in a negotiation.

Even though it is only 526 pages, this is a negotiation tome. I have read the entire book and re-read many portions. There is so much interesting and useful information that unless the book is read deliberately and without undue delay it will be easy to forget most of what is covered. For a refresher, the reader should consider "Essentials of Negotiation" by the same authors.

Look Within: That's Where Change Management Begins 5 out of 5 stars.
17 of 18 people found this review helpful.

Hopefully, you have already read some (if not all) of Quinn's earlier books, especially Deep Change which serves as an excellent introduction to this one. In the Preface, he explains that this book "is about changing the world. It is about coming to a deep understanding of human beings and human relationships." He then adds, "The book focuses on vision, unconditional confidence, and profound impact. It is about the mastery of human influence, transformational power, and the capacity to accomplish extraordinary things. It argues that everyone of us is a change agent." It is important to add, that Quinn advocates "deep change" as opposed to "incremental change." Moreover, no organization can achieve deep change unless and until those within that organization achieve deep change. So as I understand it, each of us must assume full authority as well as responsibility for (and have control of) our personal development. "There is a language of transformation. Yet most of us are cut off from that language. All our lives we have been explicitly taught to see human influence as an exercise in domination." Even the most sensitive among us is shaped by this paradigm or worldview. But this outlook prevents us from seeing more deeply into the actual workings of human systems. This book demonstrates an alternative system."

Quinn recalls the remark by Oliver Wendell Holmes that he placed little value in simplicity that lay on this side of complexity but a great deal of value on simplicity that lay on the other side. The framework within which Quinn presents his material comes from the "seed thoughts" of people who have mastered "the language of transformation." By "seed thoughts" Quinn means some of the "core notions that masters of transformation hold in common, the simplicity they send us from the other side of complexity." Specifically, Jesus, Gandhi, and Martin Luther King, Jr.

Quinn focuses on eight (8) "seed thoughts" (eg Envision the Productive Community, First Look Within, Embrace the Hypocritical Self), providing brief quotations from each of the three "masters of transformation" which he correlates with each of the eight "seed thoughts." His objective is to explain how Advanced Change Theory (ACT) can enable individuals to achieve deep change in their own lives and then within their organizations. The title of this book (Change the World) may be somewhat misleading. I wholeheartedly agree with Quinn that "ordinary people can accomplish extraordinary results", both individually and as members of a group. I also agree that Jesus, Gandhi, and King were "masters of transformation" within their respective spheres of influence as were Carnegie, Edison, Ford, Morgan, and Rockefeller within their own. Quinn's basic idea is sound. He and I may differ only when defining terms such as "change" and "world."

I urge you to read this book, to consider very carefully what ACT offers to you (personally) and to your organization, and then to select whatever is most appropriate. Quinn provides an eloquent and convincing argument in support of his concept of deep change; better yet, he suggests all manner of strategies and tactics to achieve and sustain it; even better yet, almost anyone who reads this book already has the resources required. If you need help to organize and allocate those resources, and truly powerful encouragement to support your efforts in process, look no further.

Editorial Review:

In this empowering book, Robert E. Quinn, author of the highly successful and influential Deep Change, gives readers the courage to use personal transformation to positively impact their home life, work life, and communities -- to be what he refers to as "inner-directed and outer-focused." We are all potential change agents, but most of us are trapped by belief that we as individuals cannot make a difference. Informed by the teachings of Jesus, Gandhi, and Martin Luther King, Jr. -- three of the most successful change agents ever -- Quinn outlines eight steps each of us can take to move ourselves and others to the highest levels of excellence. Following his advice, each of us can access and apply the power that lies within us in ways that will change our world for the better.

Maximizing You're Group's Potential 4 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

When searching online for a book on leadership, this book's title,"Getting It Done. How to Lead When You're Not in Charge", immediately grabbed my attention. It seemed perfect for what I needed a little help on. I am sure I am not alone. Everyone at one point in their life is forced into a group situation, whether it is in school, work or everyday life, where they are assigned a problem in which the group needs to accomplish together. However, before a group can solve the problem assigned, it needs to conquer the problems within the group. One of the problems that I have found to exist within every group I have been in is how to reach solutions and successfully work with others when no one knows exactly who is in charge. Everyone needs to individually take on responsibility and contribute, but it works best when you know exactly what you should focus on and the right questions to ask your group members to obtain the best results. This book does an excellent job in first of all, mapping out the problems that groups face and then going into detail by explaining the route group members should take to maximize success. Fisher and Sharp have five basic elements that groups can follow to get things done. By following these five easy steps it will give you a clear focus of how to put it all together and create a successful way to complete the tasks assigned within your group. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a little extra help to maximize their group's potential. It is very easy to read and the information and suggestions that the authors provide will be remembered and used every time I am placed in a group situation again.

Editorial Review:

Introducing the technique of lateral leadership, "Getting It Done" explains how listeners can best help a group formulate a clear vision of the results they want; suggest a course of action; learn from past experiences; ask questions effectively; offer ideas that will be heard; and influence the actions of others through their own behavior.

Editorial Review:

Long a fruitful area of scrutiny for students of organizations, the study of institutions is undergoing a renaissance in contemporary social science. This volume offers, for the first time, both often-cited foundation works and the latest writings of scholars associated with the "institutional" approach to organization analysis.

In their introduction, the editors discuss points of convergence and disagreement with institutionally oriented research in economics and political science, and locate the "institutional" approach in relation to major developments in contemporary sociological theory. Several chapters consolidate the theoretical advances of the past decade, identify and clarify the paradigm's key ambiguities, and push the theoretical agenda in novel ways by developing sophisticated arguments about the linkage between institutional patterns and forms of social structure. The empirical studies that follow—involving such diverse topics as mental health clinics, art museums, large corporations, civil-service systems, and national polities—illustrate the explanatory power of institutional theory in the analysis of organizational change.

Required reading for anyone interested in the sociology of organizations, the volume should appeal to scholars concerned with culture, political institutions, and social change.

Editorial Review:

Much more than simply a list of protocols, Cultural Intelligence helps readers develop a mind-set that can be applied to any number of countries, cultures, and business situations. It is a systematic way to approach the tremendous variety of interactions and challenges that business people must face around the world - much easier and more realistic than documenting every trait of every culture and preparing to cater to each. This book presents a three-stage process for becoming culturally intelligent. These steps involve learning the fundamental principles of cross-cultural interactions, such as what cultures are, how they might vary, and how they affect behavior; practicing mindfulness and paying attention in a reflective and creative way to cues; and developing a repertoire of behavioral skills that can be adapted to different situations. It takes time and effort to develop high cultural intelligence, but this book helps readers with the right attitude begin this rewarding experience.
