Okay but could have been better! 3 out of 5 stars.

The Women of Primrose Creek by Linda Lael Miller was not a bad book, but I found alot of things about these stories bothered me. Firstly the cover picture does not reflect the time or the women of the book (women didn't wear sleevless dress in 1860). Usually if an author makes a mistake with time, events, inventions (like having button on dresses in 13th C in historical romances) these don't bother me. However when an author can't even keep track of time in her own writing that's annoying. The Christy novel is set in 1868 and then the Sky novel starts in the fall of 1868 and the character Jake says has it really been a year since Christy left him at the alter and is about to give birth to Zachary's baby. Christy couldn't be ready to give birth in a few months! Also in Bridget's novel it says that Trace buried this friend Mitch (wrapped in a blanket) himself where he drowned and then in Megan's story it says that he was carried home in a pine box. Also the whole suspense of what it says in the family bible is thrown all over the place and only in Megan's novel does it actually tell you what it says. Does the author or her editor not catch these things! I found it aggravating that there were so many items of information not flowing smoothly.
I also found the novels could have been longer and the characters more well developed; it seems to me that Linda Lael Miller tries to push out as many novels as she can. If she concentrated more on quality than quantity, she would have more of a following. Overall I only rated this book a 3 as it could have been more developed.

Editorial Review:

Bridget
She lost her husband to the Civil War; now, starting a new life out West, she never dreamed his best friend, Trace Qualtrough, could spark a forbidden passion.
Christy
All she wanted was a secure, steady home life in Primrose Creek. Lawman Zachary Shaw was hardly husband material -- but he surely sent her heart pounding wildly?.
Skye
Lumber baron Jake Vigil took a chance on Skye's sweet and healing love. Now, their delicate bond faces the ultimate test when a business deal threatens to tear them apart.
Megan
A shocking revelation greets Megan when she returns to Primrose Creek. Will placing her trust in landowner Webb Stratton bring hope -- or more heartache?

The strongest bonds are the ones unseen Rough Riders series Businesswoman Skylar Ellison is firmly in control of her life. So getting tangled up with a sexy Wyoming cowboy-and conceiving a baby in the parking lot of a honky-tonk-wasn't in her plan. Since it appears the daddy has taken off for greener pastures, the only thing to do is pull up her bootstraps and carry on alone. When Skylar refuses to marry him, Kade grits his teeth, moves in and plays house by her rules to prove he's a man in for the long haul. Despite Skylar's insistence they are to remain strictly parenting partners, their old passions flare hot as a brush fire, spurring Kade to demand absolute sexual surrender from the headstrong woman. Skylar willingly submits her body to the hot-blooded cowboy but she's leery of handing Kade the reins to her heart. Can Kade convince Skylar the wicked sex games aren't a temporary distraction? Or will he have to bust out the ropes to show her he wants to be tied to her.forever? Warning: this book contains: no holes barred kinky sex scenes, wicked rope play, blunt language, and yowza! lots of hot cowboy nekkidness.

Editorial Review:

The latest in Linda Lael Miller's Springwater series, A Springwater Christmas introduces a boarding house spinster and a prodigal son to the mix of loveable characters in this frontier town.

Miss Olivia Darling seizes her first and last opportunity for adventure when she uses her inheritance from her late aunt to buy a boarding house. Her courage starts to falter, however, when all the customers steer straight for the rival McCafferys' hotel. When a tall, handsome stranger darkens her door, Olivia is instantly attracted to him. But Jack McLaughlin is determined to keep himself removed from Olivia and life in Springwater. Haunted by a dark past, Jack once failed those who loved him most. Now as he finds himself falling for Olivia, Jack must face the consequences of his past, or risk the dreams of his future.

Miller's warm characters and sleek, unaffected writing style neatly disguise what is not always the most profound plot. While Jack enjoys a complex internal debate, Olivia's progression from grumpy activist to drama club president feels hollow. But profundity is not the point here: the dialogue is realistic, the romance is solid, the sensuality is restrained, and the final result is sure to keep more than a few readers up past their bedtime. --Nancy R.E. Enjoyable 5 out of 5 stars.

This book reminded me of the movie "Witness" with Harrison Ford.

Boy, do I love this author's style of writing.

I felt like this story ended abruptly. I'm still wondering what happened with Marliee and Lucas and if Rachel's family ever spoke to her again, but then again perhaps wanting more is the measure of a good novel.

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I'VE EVER READ 5 out of 5 stars.

I love Penelope Williamson is one of my favorite authors, and I've read my share of them ,till nowadays I must have read 400 historical and contemporaneal romance novels, I am a compulsive reader, and I consider this book wonderful ,it was the first I had read of this author and I liked it so much that I've read all of her books, save the suspence ones, I really got upset when I knew she had changed of genre. What a pity!
I advise you to read it, you won't be disappointed.

This is one of my favorite of Joan's books, and i have read many. I'm definately in love with her Hawk's Way series and can't wait for more. This was the first historical of hers that i read and i absolutely loved it. I am a big fan of historical novels and but this one was one of the best. I love the western themes and i thought the family situation in this novel was great i laughed so much i was in tears. Patch was definately a favorite character and i loved the novel about her also. I wish i could give such high recomendations about some of joan's other historicals but i can't stand the ones about Earls and Dukes, i guess they're just not my thing. But this book is great for anyone who loves historicals, the old west,or joan johnston, or all of the above, Happy reading

A Page Turner 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This is a "period" piece by Sandra Brown, taking place in the 1870s, charting a wagon train heading for Texas. The two main characters are Ross Coleman, a man who just lost his wife during childbirth, who has a secret from his past, and Lydia, who just gave birth to a stillborn baby, who also has a secret from her past. Lydia is found, barely conscious after giving birth in the woods, by two teens (Luke and Bubba) from the wagon train, who take her back to their Ma to help her get well. When Ross's wife dies during childbirth leaving an infant son behind, it's Lydia who is there to nurse his baby. He's resentful at first, because he thinks Lydia is trash and doesn't want her near his child, but he is also attracted to her wild beauty and he's feeling guilty b/c of his feelings for Lydia so soon after his wife's death. This torment causes him to be unfairly nasty to her, but she's strong-willed and dishes it right back at him, which he finds unnerving. Eventually, they discover that there is something strong b/t the two of them that can't be stopped, and love does conquer all. What I like about this book, besides the love story, is that there are other characters from the wagon train who are interesting to read: Bubba Langston (aka Jake), the sweet, innocent teenager who found Lydia, who idolizes Ross and wants to become the type of man he is; Priscilla, the teen w/ loose morals who seduces Jake; Winston Hill, the southern gentleman who is attracted to Lydia; and Ma, the matriarch of the wagon train. Each lends a dynamic to the book that when woven together make for an excellent read.

Be sure to follow this book up with her sequel, "Another Dawn", which takes place 20 years later and focuses on the story of Jake Langston, and Ross and Lydia's daughter, Banner. But you'll also catch up with Ross and Lydia, Ma, and Priscilla, too. It's a great sequel and a five-year book, but be warned, though, because you may not be satisfied with the ending.

Editorial Review:

No woman on the trek to Texas was more mysterious than Lydia Langston. No man was more stubborn than Ross Coleman...and both were running from the past. Lydia had vowed no man would ever take away her pride, while Ross Coleman stayed true to his wife, who had died in child-birth, the woman who had given him his son. Yet Lydia and Ross would find themselves together, fighting the same enemy and the same dangerous emotions building inside them...unable to stop the events that would eventually pit a man's deadly vengeance against the strength of a woman's love.

Not bad... 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

This book started out VERY formula (i.e. hero and heroine really hate each other). In fact, if I read one more "Damn you, Garretson!" "Damn you Malloy!" I was going to slap the both of them upside the head! But then the story got better...much better. The characters started becoming more 3 dimensional and had some good sides, not just bad. And Emma and Tucker's physical attraction to each other! Wowee! Like magnets - the two of them. The whodunit mystery was very well done, too. I thought I had the villain figured out from the beginning but I was wrong! So all in all - worth reading. Good, likable characters (once you got through that opening section) and a pretty fast enjoyable read. P.S. A small aside: the inside cover art of Emma and Tucker was dead-on accurate. Loved it!

Editorial Review:

She thought she knew about love....

After six years at a Philadelphia finishing school, former tomboy Emma Malloy was coming home to Whisper Valley, Montana, a sophisticated lady.  Little did she know that the decades-old feud between the Malloys and the Garrettsons had escalated into a full-scale range war.  Nor did she expect that her archenemy, Tucker Garrettson, whose stolen kiss she still couldn't forget, had become a rugged, handsomer-than-sin cowboy who wanted to hang her father and take her prisoner--in his arms.

He vowed to teach her about desire....

She was proud, beautiful, and bossy.  And even though Emma was a Malloy, Tucker wanted her badly.  Here they were caught in a blood feud and all he wanted to do was take her once and get her out of his mind.  No man could outgun him, but could this infuriating beauty make him surrender his freedom and believe in love?

From New York Times bestselling author Janet Dailey comes a captivating story of a man who's given up, a woman who won't let go, and a race to find a treasure that could bring them wealth and so much more...

Something More

Life in Glory, Wyoming, population fifty-one, isn't exactly exciting. The dusty old town isn't even on the map. And for rancher Luke McCallister, that's just fine. Broken by tragedy, the stoic cowboy spends his time at his Ten Bar Ranch or down at Ima Jane's Rimrock Bar, trying to avoid the gossip being served along with the food and drink. But the everyday quiet of his life is shattered when he finds a human skull--and possibly the key to Glory's oldest mystery.

It was one hundred years ago that a band of outlaws were said to have buried their gold in Glory. The one surviving bandit took the secret of the treasure's hiding place with him to the gallows. Angie Sommers knows the story cold: that man was her great-great-grandfather. She's come to Glory to see if the old legend of the gold is true, and she wants Luke to help her find it. She even has incentive: a possible clue written by the dead man himself.

Luke has no interest in chasing after pipe dreams. He's seen the damage too much hope can bring. Still, he can't deny that Angie makes him feel things he hasn't allowed himself to feel in years. Something about her sweet, trusting nature, her honest eyes, and unshakable belief makes him feel alive again--and that could be dangerous. For someone else is determined to stop Angie, someone who would do anything for the outlaws'gold. Now, bound by the thinnest of ties and shadowed by danger, Luke and Angie set off in search of a mystery as romantic as the west itself on a journey of faith that will take them into Wyoming's rugged, treacherous terrain and even deeper into the heart's tender graces...
