My trip to the Isles 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

One of my great regrets is that I've never made it to Britain -- yet. But, I buy the 365 Days calendar each year and take a different trip there every month. This is a marvelous calendar, chock-a-block with beautiful photos. Buy it and enjoy.

Editorial Review:

Storied old castles and quaint country cottages. The stiff upper lips (and fuzzy hats!) of the guards at Buckingham Palace. Abbey ruins crumbling into bucolic pastures. Convivial games of cricket, soaring cathedrals, cutting-edge London, fanciful topiary gardens, Shakespeare's legacy, the pleasure and camaraderie of a pint at the corner pub. 365 Days in Great Britain captures the essence of England, Scotland, and Wales—the deep-rooted history, the vibrant culture, the singular British charm—in hundreds of full-color photographs. From Norfolk to Scotland's Clyde Valley, from the Isle of Man to Dyfed in Wales, it's a year-long holiday.

Editorial Review:

A cute giftbook packed with glorious color microphotography of real snow crystals by Dr. Snow—Caltech physicist Kenneth Libbrecht. His photos of snowflakes have appeared in National Geographic, the New York Times, and on Martha Stewart’s TV show, as well as numerous other places. This thick “cube” book is packed with a blizzard’s worth of amazing images as well as literary quotes on the beauty of snow.

Editorial Review:

This remarkable collection of candid nude photos of France’s national rugby team goes beneath the uniform to reveal what real jocks look like underneath it all. Each image taken by leading French photographer François Rousseau depicts the rugby player―alone or with teammates―undressing, lounging on the bench, showering. Locker Room Men is at once a celebration of athletes and the beauty of the male form as well as the fulfillment of the fantasy of going behind the scenes in a winning team’s locker room.
Sure to appeal to both gay men and straight women, these photos are unusual because the men are not models. They don’t work out just to look good―and look good they do―their bodies are sculpted by winning victories on the field. They aren’t made up, shaved, or prettified in any way. These are some of the world’s best rugby players―brawny, tough, competitive.
Since 1999, the French national rugby team has posed nude or semi-nude for an annual calendar. The purpose behind the calendar was to get wider “exposure” for rugby and the team. In 2004, François Rousseau was selected as photographer, and he successfully brought out the sensual beauty and sexiness inherent in the rugby players’ rough and tumble exterior. The calendar became a cult hit, and thus the book was born so that even more of these unparalleled images could be savored.
Whether or not rugby will become more popular in this country remains to be seen, but this book will certainly raise the game’s profile…

Being Naked's Not Enough 2 out of 5 stars.

Dylan Rosser...I respect his ambition for being "edgy", but, I'm sorry..a man being "naked" isn't enough for me (or anyone else for that matter) to make a photography book of men "come to life". Compare this book to Adam Raphael's "Room Service". Although there's no frontal nudity, the photographer, Adam Raphael, makes this book "come to life" by the men in it being attractive, having personality, a "swagger", if you will--Raphael has Evan Wadle in like 6-7 photos or so, you can't beat that, even if Evan's not showing frontal..hey, he could have Kiefer Sutherland in the book as a tease, that would turn me on instantly--That's what you need to make these types of books work, there has to be "life" in the photos, not just some "joe" taking it all off. Rosser's okay, but, he's a beginner--still a "student", I'm sure even Bruno Gmunder knows this in his heart...Rosser has a lot to learn, and, a long way to go.

Editorial Review:

A landmark book celebrating the engaging mix of photographer as both reporter and artist that has defined Magnum for sixty years.

Since its founding in 1947 by Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger, and David "Chim" Seymour, Magnum Photos, the legendary co-operative, has powerfully chronicled the peoples, cultures, events, and issues of the time.

Magnum Magnum brings together the best work, celebrating the vision, imagination, and brilliance of Magnum photographers, both the acknowledged greats of photography in the twentieth century—among them Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, Eve Arnold, Marc Riboud, and Werner Bischof—and the modern masters and rising stars of our time, such as Martin Parr, Susan Meiselas, Alec Soth, and Donovan Wylie. And it shows the work at a breathtaking scale: the vast page size of Magnum Magnum—12¾ by 15¾—gives the photos an impact never seen before in book form.

Organized by photographer, the book harks back to the agency's early days and the spirit that made it such a unique and creative environment, one in which each of the four founding members picture-edited the others' photographs. Here a current Magnum photographer selects and critiques six key works by each of the sixty-nine featured photographers, with a commentary explaining the rationale behind the choice.

This groundbreaking publication is at once a permanent record of iconic images from the last sixty years and an insight, as seen through the critical eyes and minds of Magnum photographers, into what makes a memorable photograph. This first edition of Magnum Magnum will become one of the great collectibles—an essential book for anyone interested in photography or the world depicted by it. 400+ photographs in color and duotone.

Editorial Review:

From the co-author of the New York Times Bestseller America 24/7.

The week of September 17, 2007, marked the largest collaborative project in Internet history as 100 of the top photojournalists and millions of Americans documented the concept of home. The result—which included several million photos—is the most extensive record of American home life at the beginning of the 21st century.

Now the powerhouse team of photographers and editors behind such bestselling titles as America 24/7 and the A Day in the Life of... series, present their latest collection of stunning personal and dramatic moments with this tie-in volume.

America at Home aims to capture the emotions of home: the distinctive rituals, ceremonies, traditions, intimate moments, and all the myriad ways in which we work, play, learn, conduct our lives, and interact with friends, family members (and pets!) as we transform our houses (and apartments, trailers, etc.) into our homes. From McMansions to mobile homes, from tree houses to tenement slums, from ranches to old-age homes, the public was invited to help document the harmonies and paradoxes of home life across America over a single seven-day period...

Highlights of this extraordinary project include:

Massive grassroots online outreach: Americans were invited to simultaneously contribute their own images via a series of daily snapshots each day throughout the week. These shots covered topics such as: morning rush, what’s for dinner, and evening family rituals. Participants received daily emails with assignment instructions and also took general photos of what makes their home special. The public was able to sign in and upload them at www.MyAmericaAtHome.com.

Multiple formats: An international team of leading magazine and newspaper photo editors edited all of the images, shot by both professionals and amateurs. The best images are woven together here with essays from leading writers in a unique and evocative coffee table book. In addition to the website, a TV show and photography exhibit are planned, with the help (and advertising) of major corporate sponsors such as IKEA, Google, HP’s Snapfish, and BabyCenter.com.

A brief comment 4 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

This is a very beautiful photo book on a very specialized topic--the photos are exclusively those of ocean waves. There aren't even any surfers in the photos, although there is one or two with a pod of dolphins, and various backdrops are sometimes used, but the waves themselves are truly the protagonists in most of the pictures. The photos show surfing and beach locations all over the world, including famous places like Weimea Bay in Hawaii as well as those I was less familiar with, such as the location in Tahiti, which has very beautiful waves and was featured in a number of the photos.

One striking aspect of the photos is how much the colors of the waves vary, from light sky-blue to a deep marine and saphire blue to a dark, mossy green color. I don't know if this is more from the light or the type of photo emulsion used, or both, but just the spectrum of color possibilities is as varied and diverse as the waves themselves. Not all the waves are big; some are just beautifully shaped or symmetrical, or they are shot with an interesting subject in the background or foreground--such as the one showing San Francisco's Ocean Beach with a lone wave breaking in the background.

This book will be of interest to anyone who appreciates nature photography or the beauty and power of the sea, as reflected in the awesome power of the waves themselves. The text is well written and there is even a brief discussion of the physics of waves and how the power in mechanical foot-pounds of a wave can be calculated, which was developed by a famous oceanographer. (Most of the text isn't nerdy though). :-)

Editorial Review:

Any ocean lover knows the transformative power of the ocean wave and its perfect confluence of energy, water, and light. Waves offers a mesmerizing collection of photography that explores the many faces of the singular ocean wave, whether it is the quiet rush of a crystalline wavelet over tropical sand or the deadly slam of storm surf against Oregon cliffs. Former editor of Surfer magazine, Steve Hawk has selected photographs from New Zealand to Newfoundland, from Fiji to the Aleutians, and paired them with insightful ruminations on the science and poetry of waves. With work from world-renowned photographers such as Art Brewer, Jeff Divine, Wayne Levin, and Joel Meyerowitz, Waves will captivate all those with a passion for the sea.

Perfect 5 out of 5 stars.

I am not a professional photographer, just so we get that out of the way. I recently graduated from a point and shoot digital camera that, while better than any camera I had owned previously, was not the nice unit I have now. I also have three little girls who are photogenic. Now, I have a book that has turned me into a better photographer of children. It was so easy to understand, so inspirational and so filled with wonderful examples that it sucked me in and spit me out with the knowledge to photograph my children anywhere, anytime and enjoy beautiful results. The interviews with professionals gave me insights that I never would have obtained elsewhere.
Now I take the pictures for my sister and for a few friends. Amazing book.

Editorial Review:

Packed with practical techniques that both inform and inspire, this professional guidebook to photographing babies, small children, and teenagers presents new strategies to maximize client cooperation and ensure smooth sessions. The entire child-based photographic process is addressed, including proper equipment selection, physical and behavioral controls for young subjects, working with black-and-white exposures, assessing raw versus JPEG modes, and evaluating digital exposures by determining over- and underexposure metering. Chapters devoted to mastering studio lighting—from direct and diffused lighting tactics to employing the use of umbrellas and softboxes—as well as working in sunlight and twilight environments is also featured.

Hairy girls only ! 1 out of 5 stars.

This is by far the WORST photography book i bought - EVER !
All the models are EXTREMELY HAIRY.
Really bad taste.
The book is so bad that I left it in my hotel room in NY as It didn't even worth carrying that weight.

Sizzle With Sass 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is a collection of erotic moments captured in pictures, by someone who actually seems to think this sort of thing should be fun. Yes, it gets a little kinky, and not all the bodies are glamor-perfect (not the problem one might think, as all the model choices seem very carefully considered), but Stuart doesn't seem so much interested in pushing the erotic envelope as finding out what's in it. And he's a pretty good photographer, in case anyone's wondering.

Great visual experience 5 out of 5 stars.

I would recommend this product to all that appreciate the erotic art, I would say that Roy Stuart is the best in this genre.
