America's Bubble Economy 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great book. A must read for anyone with money invested in the Market in any form. A great way to be prepared.

Sometimes, simple is good. 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is a simplistic synopsis of the current state of the economy and offers some simple suggestions on how to deal with it. It's a pretty good read for the non-economist who's looking for a quick and easy grasp of the big picture. It does get a bit tedious and repetitious at times and has enough typos to keep a proofer busy for a week. There's also a less than subtle self-serving purpose as the authors attempt to drive the reader to their web site. The only problem is it appears they haven't updated the web site with any current information since the book was published.

Nonetheless, an interesting and quick read for those looking for the summary view of the world's economy today.

Editorial Review:

America’s Bubble Economy is the first book to focus on several simultaneous financial bubbles that are interacting to temporarily boost—and ultimately threaten—the United States and world economies. Filled with expert analysis and straight talk, this book will show you how to turn the coming economic transformation into a once-in-a-lifetime wealth-building opportunity.

I feel cheated! 1 out of 5 stars.
6 of 15 people found this review helpful.

This book is similar in some ways to Strapped . . ., by T. Draut, another book I have reviewed recently; however, this one is supposed to be more of a self-help guide. Reading through it today, I see the author has a few good tips, but honestly, I cannot imagine that this is actually going to help anyone get out of debt. The best advice she gives is to give up the lattes at Starbucks, but how can giving up something that probably costs about $60.00 a month actually save you a lot of money? For people who have so little anyway, maybe the latte is the only motivation for actually going to a depressing job that pays so little! Also, most of us already in credit card debt are unable to magically get rid of that debt so easily as she claims. Is there a magic wand? Hello! The only answer is consolidation when it's gotten this out of control; remember, because of our current president (who drove his own companies into bankruptcy) now we have to pay back everything to creditors, so now filing for bankruptcy is out of the question. This is just one of several ploys by government (in collaboration with big companies) to make sure they get richer while the middle class and the poor are worse off. Those who should be reading this book should be the very people in politics and big business (actually, they're not really human but Evil Incarnate if you ask me) I just mentioned. In the end, I am sorry, but for all her good intentions, this book isn't going to help the average college graduate get out of debt. I feel cheated.

Editorial Review:

There is a growing financial epidemicyoung adults are taking on more student loan and consumer debt than ever before, but finding it harder to pay it off. With tuition and living expenses rising every year, and the average college student graduating with over $18,000 in debt, many are trapped and cant find a way out. Now, this definitive book offers the financial advice necessary to help readers navigate their way toward a debt-free future. Informative, timely, and entertaining, GENERATION DEBT teaches readers how to: Get a grip, set goals, and make financial plans by identifying needs vs. wants Employ the B word (Budget) to lower bills Master loans with payback options and consolidation strategies Learn good debt vs. bad debt and be smarter with credit cards Understand interest rates and fees, and shop for the best rates and services Take advantage of employee savings plans, stocks, bonds, and mutual funds And much more.

ON EQUAL GROUND 5 out of 5 stars.

At last a book that can be used as a guide and tool to understanding the credit industry. Everybody has had unique situations that may have had an impact on their ability to keep their credit in good standing, but one thing is certain, the industry can not and will not distinguish between individual circumstances, if you missed a payment, end of story, you have a negative mark against your credit history. This book helped me gain an understanding of the credit terminology and assisted me in learning how to read and understand my credit report. You can't hide from your credit history and the mistakes you made in the past. So, learn "tricks" that will help remove negative marks on your credit report, learn that too many inquiries against your credit report can actually hurt your ability to obtain credit, or learn the differences between the credit agencies, plus a lot more. This book is a must for all people who have or will, try to obtain credit. Give yourself an advantage that few people have, learn your second identity, your credit history!

A glimpse of hope and reassurance 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Mostly a collection of stories from members of Debtors Anonymous. What I like is how there are many stories that I can relate to. And from those you see that many others have gone through financial trials a tribulations and survived through adoption of DA principles. It's not a reference for how to get out of debting problems, but it provides a sense of hope that there is a way out.

Most excellent reading 5 out of 5 stars.

This book helped me to put my spending in a different perspective - it is excellent reading and I will be using it as a reference whenever the "urge to spend" comes up again.

What is the point? 5 out of 5 stars.

What good does it do to know all the best financial advice, if you are powerless over putting it to use? This book reveals how people powerless over compulsive spending and debting have been able to apply good financial principles to their lives by living the twelve steps and asking a power greater than themselves to take the lead in their life.

Editorial Review:

First publication by the Debtors Anonymous 12 Step Fellowship. It describes the basics of the D.A. recovery program and includes 38 success stories of D.A. members. It offers experience, strength, and hope to help other compulsive debtors and all those who want to stop incurring unsecured debt, such as credit cards, unsecured loans, personal loans, unpaid taxes, and more.

Inside Secrets from a Credit Industry Professional

There are a plethora of books out there promising to show consumers how to repair their credit. There is only one that explains how to establish credit, how to maintain and manage it, and, yes, how to fix it when it’s broken— The Insider’s Guide to Credit Repair.

This much-needed book is current, cohesive, and thorough. It begins with the basics-defining credit, explaining its value to consumers and businesses, and introducing the key parties that keep the process successfully operating—but then covers more complex topics, including credit laws, credit scoring, credit repair and identity theft. Most noteworthy and helpful are the short quizzes after each chapter, a comprehensive glossary, and a wide variety of sample letters.

The Insider’s Guide to Credit Repair is an engaging and thought-provoking discussion of consumer credit from an insider’s perspective—the author is a former instructor for one of the national credit-reporting agencies. The scope of the material is as vast as the author’s industry experience, accommodating the beginner trying to establish credit for the first time and more experienced consumers seeking greater knowledge of all aspects of credit.

K.E. Varner is a former instructor of customer-service personnel for Equifax, one of the three major credit-reporting agencies. During his tenure, he functioned as a subject matter expert in a number of high-level business projects, appeared in Federal court to help resolve consumer/credit-reporting agency conflict, and facilitated credit industry information to organizations such as the Atlanta Housing Authority.

One of the best.... 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 20 people found this review helpful.

I don't know where to begin with this review, but I just wanted to say this is one of the best books on the subject and anyone interested in global economics and markets should read this book.

Editorial Review:

Roughly once a year, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund, the U.S. treasury secretary and in some cases the finance ministers of other G-7 countries will get a call from the finance minister of a large emerging market economy. The emerging market finance minister will indicate that the country is rapidly running out of foreign reserves, that it has lost access to international capital markets and, perhaps, that is has lost the confidence of its own citizens. Without a rescue loan, it will be forced to devalue its currency and default either on its government debt or on loans to the country's banks that the government has guaranteed. This book looks at these situations and the options available to alleviate the problem. It argues for a policy that recognizes that every crisis is different and that different cases need to be handled within a framework that provides consistency and predictability to borrowing countries as well as those who invest in their debt.

A Must-read for college students 4 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

As a financial planner and co-author of Making Bread: The Ultimate Financial Guide for Women Who Need Dough, I recommend this book for every college student. They need to know how to use credit wisely and this book will help them understand how it can be done. More importantly, students will learn what happens when they abuse credit. Few, if any, understand how bad credit will affect their future ability to borrow money. Money management should be a required course for college students. It is not, and they go into the adult world as financial illiterates. This book will open their eyes to what can happen.

Editorial Review:

Learning how to talk your way out of credit card debt is the quickest, easiest, and most efficient way to start saving money!

It's true! You can call your credit card banks to negotiate a better interest rate and have fees waived! However, it may not be as easy as picking up the phone and asking. That's because bank representatives are trained to deter you from pursuing the deals you deserve. Overcoming their tactics can be difficult when you don't know what to expect.

Scott Bilker, author of Talk Your Way Out of Credit Card Debt, and creator of DebtSmart.com, has spent 10+ years making banks compete for his business. Now, he's sharing his personal phone calls to banks that saved more than $43,000 for himself, his family, and friends! These 52 phone calls, out of the hundreds he has made, demonstrate exactly what worked, what didn't, and why. In each call transcript, for anonymity, banks have been renamed as dog breeds and their reps as bugs.:)

In this book you will discover proven negotiation strategies, and build your confidence, while learning how to: (1) get annual fees waived; (2) lower your current interest rates; (3) shop for the best credit card deals; (4) get late-payment, overlimit, and cash-advance fees waived; (5) compare loan options and calculate savings; (6) dispute charges and get all your refunds; (7) negotiate account settlements; and much more!
