Adweek Copywriting Handbook is the updated version of Advertising Secrets Book 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I ordered Advertising Secrets from our state library system because it is out of print and I didn't want to spend the high prices from the resellers. When I received it, I realized it is an exact copy of The Adweek Copywriting Handbook by Joseph Sugarman which IS in print and is sold for about $39 here at Amazon. The "Adweek" version is word for word the same except for a slight mention of the internet to update the book and a change of title. So don't waste your money trying to get the out of print version. Just go to The Adweek Copywriting Handbook and you'll have a replica of "Advertising Secrets".

Of the dozens of books I have read on the subject this one is the only one that I feel was well worth the purchase price.

Ideas backed by facts not opinions.

Joe is AMAZING! 5 out of 5 stars.

I have never been so impressed by a copywriter
like I have been with Joe. I saw him speak a long
time ago at a Mark Joyner event and bought this
book. I have had it by my side ever since.

I couldn't recommend it enough!

However, there is a danger in that you'll see how stupid some of the marketing has been done, and is being done, by others in your company. You might get restless, run out the door and scream.

Worth it's weight in doubloons.

Caveat: Bean counters, and bean counters masquerading as marketers, will not understand this book. If all you send out are post cards and self mailers (ads with postage stamps), and you think they're effective, keep doing that. We true direct marketers will gleefully steal your lunch money with Mr. Hatch's assistance.

Editorial Review:

Before the Internet, Wal-Mart, and the shopping mall, there was Montgomery Ward.

"Our mail order methods meet many wants," wrote a poetic but anonymous copywriter on a page of the 1895 Montgomery Ward & Co. catalogue. He had a gift for understatement. At its zenith from the 1880s to the 1940s, Montgomery Ward, like its cross-town Chicago rival, Sears, sold virtually everything the average American could think of or desire—and by mail. This was a revolution, and Ward's fired the first shot. To buy spittoons, books of gospel hymns, hat pins, rifles, wagons, violins, birdcages, or portable bathtubs, purchases that used to require many separate trips to specialist merchants, suddenly all the American shopper had to do was lick a stamp. This unabridged facsimile of the retail giant's 1895 catalogue showcases some 25,000 items, from the necessities of life (flour, shirts) to products whose time has passed (ear trumpets). It is an important resource for antiquaries, students of Americana, writers of historical fiction, and anyone who wants to know how much his great-grandfather paid for his suspenders. It is a true record of an era. 20,000 b/w illustrations.

Editorial Review:

L.L.Bean is one of only a handful of American companies to have attained almost legendary status in the minds of its consumers. Thanks to the integrity of its product line, consistently strong brand association, and the ability to change with customers’ needs, L.L.Bean embodies the best qualities long associated with traditional American living: rugged individualism, stubborn determination, and simple ingenuity.

Written by Leon Gorman, grandson of founder L.L., this is the first authoritative, true-to-life account of the iconic retailer and its quirky history and culture. This engaging account candidly reveals Gorman’s behind-the-scenes struggles to preserve the identity that built Bean as he also opened the door to needed change. Woven throughout the narrative are themes that will resonate with managers and general readers alike: how to shape a powerhouse brand around bedrock beliefs and values, how to balance growth and tradition, and how to craft and preserve an authentic corporate identity.

Far from a tranquil journey, the story reveals the funny, poignant, and often engrossing details of managing the L.L.Bean legacy—during the best and worst of times.

disappointed 1 out of 5 stars.

the book was listed as being new when it was not. Had quite a bit of the answers in the guide and it was the earlier edition, which was not the intended book I wanted to purchase. Very disappointed with my purchase.

Awesome Study Guide 5 out of 5 stars.

I found this book to be the best study guide I have ever used. If you need the textbook for a class you should purchase this study guide. It includes short 1-2 page chapter summaries of every chapter which really help cut down the study time. It also includes chapter quizes and pre-tests with answers so you will certainly be prepared for any test. If used properly you don't need the actual textbook! I got an A in Micro and I credit it entirely to this study guide.

Good on saving resources, not so much on earning 3 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I have been making money online since 1998 and am always checking out resources to help me make more. The Mom's Guide to Earning and Saving Thousands on the Internet offers some terrific savings ideas and resources in one place. It's especially helpful for busy moms who don't have time to research and investigate resources themselves.

I was very intersted in the earning aspect especially since it covered surveys and mystery shopping. I still don't feel this is a great way to earn income from home. I have tested many survey sites and have yet to get paid by the legitimate ones. Turns out I don't qualify for most surveys I'm sent. (I'm a 40 year old mom of two, married who owns a home...). I've gotten a free lunch with mystery shopping, but that won't pay the mortgage.

If you are looking for great resources and ideas to save money using the Internet, this is a good resource. But if you want to make money, this isn't your book.

Editorial Review:

Extract: I wrote this book to bring together in one place all the best fashion, beauty and lifestyle websites that I've discovered, shopped from and enjoyed using. To make reading about them relaxing and fun with the result that all you have to do is to dip in and out of it when you're looking for something and then just click to shop. You can see immediately who will deliver worldwide, who offers express delivery and who will gift-wrap your choice and send it out for you. I've also awarded gold stars to my all time favourites, some of whom you'll almost certainly have heard of and others you probably won't have. They've all been tried and tested by me and they all deserve their stars, trust me. They're the best of the best. However, the aim of this book is not just to take you straight to the ultimate online stores so you don't have to search any more, but also to give you a snap-shot of each website so you can quickly decide whether or not you want to pay it a visit. With this book you can shop from just about anywhere in the world and take delivery anywhere in the world. The World Wide Web has made the globe a much, much smaller place, so for a little entertainment and a great deal of temptation just turn the page and read on. You'll be amazed at what you can find online...

Editorial Review:

Socially responsible investments have grown exceptionally in the same year that "moral values" determined a presidential election. So why has business been so slow to catch on? In a new book, The Company We Keep, small business owner and entrepreneur John Abrams makes a case for a return to workplace values, and shows how we can ultimately profit by them.

The Company we Keep is more than the success story of a revolutionary company. It sets down a framework for a model of employee ownership and community involvement that has piqued the interest of entrepreneurs around the country. In the words of Abrams, "This is a book about a different way of doing business in today's world--a way based on workplace democracy, shared ownership, staying small, building community, commitment to a place, and long term thinking."

John Abrams founded the South Mountain Company, a design and building firm, on Martha's Vineyard more than thirty years ago. Through a commitment to place and community entrepreneurship, he has seen the company grow and prosper, while at the same time experimenting with a revolutionary employee ownership model that has challenged the traditional business rhetoric of unchecked growth.

There is a revolution going on in corporate America, and social entrepreneurship is leading the way. Rejecting the myth that short-term profits are the only indicator of business health and wealth, John Abrams shows how building a company to serve the needs of people (employees and owners), community, and the environment can be a successful business plan as well. Part entrepreneurial business plan, part guide to democratizing the workplace, and part prescription for strong local economies, The Company We Keep marks the debut of an important new voice in the literature of American business.
