As a teacher this is a great book to inspire reading in students and my grandchildren!

My toddler loves this book 5 out of 5 stars.

We got this book from the library and my son loves it. We own The Mixed-up Chameleon book, but my son isn't as into that one, maybe it's for kids who are a bit older, as my son isn't quite 2. However, this book seems to be perfect for him, he loves to put his fingers in the holes the catapiller ate into everything. So, I'd say this might be the best Eric Carle book for the young toddlers, esp. since it's not a long story.

Classic 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great board book, not too annoying to read over and over again. My 5-month-old son really responds to the beautiful illustrations.

Great fun! 5 out of 5 stars.

Learn numbers, colors, days of the week, and food items, not to mention the wonderful artwork.

Classic and timeless 5 out of 5 stars.

I didn't grow up with English-language chidren literature classic books, so I was not thrilled with the book at first. My daughter was, and still is. We had The Very Hungry Caterpillar since she was about 3 months, and she keeps returning to it every two weeks or so. When she started to say more (at about 18 months), I realized that she knows the whole story by heart. I would make a pause in the story, and she would say the next word. Her favorite page in the entire book is Caterpillar's Saturday feast. Oh, by the way, I know it by heart now too, and I absolutely love both the story and illustrations. You can say that it grew on me.

Editorial Review:

As a tiny green caterpillar eats his way through the book, he is transformed into a beautiful butterfly, in a board book edition of the classic picture book.

Quick and Cute 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought this when my son was only a year. I had it on the shelf for a few years without much use. He picked it up one day, and we read it together when he was 3. He wanted me to read it again. That was all he needed, he started to read it back to me.. and to his brother.. and to anyone who would listen. He even recites it when the book is far away. What an impact it has had. A good buy, but wait until they are a bit older than 1. ;)

My son loves it 5 out of 5 stars.

We bought this book for my 3y.o. son a couple of days ago and he loves it. Though it is very simple compared to what we usually read (he's a big Seuss fan), the pictures are colorful and very creative, and it's a great introduction to animals and colors. Plus, because of it's simple lines and rhymes, it's easy for him to remember and he likes to "read it" himself... as he is interested in "reading" stories to us this is a great experience (with his favorite Seuss books such as The cat in the Hat this is not so easy). I was a bit doubtful about buying this book because he is used to more complex stories, but I'm happy to say that it was a great buy! :-)

Editorial Review:

This hardcover edition childrens book is cleverly written/boldly illustrated by Eric Carle and Bill Martin Jr. Children see a variety of animals, in a variety of colors.

Editorial Review:

"The important thing about rain is/ that it is wet./ It falls out of the sky,/ and it sounds like rain,/ and makes things shiny,/ and it does not taste like anything,/ and is the color of air./ But the important thing about rain is that it is wet."

Goodnight Moon creator Margaret Wise Brown's The Important Book is a deceptively simple exercise--taking familiar things like an apple, spoon, or shoe, and finding the most basic association with those things. The most important thing about an apple? It is round. A spoon? You eat with it. A shoe? You put your foot in it. But why, according to Brown, is the most important thing about grass "that it is green," while the most important thing about an apple is "that it is round"? Why is "that it is white" the most important thing about snow and a daisy? Whether or not you'd distill these things in the same way that the author does, Brown makes us think about the essence of everyday entities in new ways. The illustrations, by Caldecott Medal winner Leonard Weisgard (The Little Island), perform the same function--capturing the spoonness of spoons, the roundness of an apple, the motion of wind.

Happily, Brown went on to create the companion Another Important Book, about the importance of being one, two, three, four, five, and six years old--published for the first time in 1999 with fabulous artwork by Caldecott Honor artist Chris Raschka (Yo! Yes?). Both of Brown's "important books" will endure the test of time as fresh, thought-provoking ways to examine the world around us. (Click to see a sample spread. Classic Baby Book 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Pat the Bunny is the best first book to read to your baby. My daughter is fascinated by the bunny and the beard. If you receive two copies at your baby shower like I did, keep both because it will be loved to bits.

Pat the Bunny - Too Cute 4 out of 5 stars.

If you're looking for a cute book that also stimulates the senses, this is the book for you and your children. A reader and activity book all in one.

Overrated 2 out of 5 stars.

This book is not as great/classic as it is proclaimed to be. I look at Alborough and Boynton books before I look at this one. The art is horrible, its too european (mummy), and too blonde haired and blue eyed. My daughter likes it, but not as much as her other rhyming books.

Editorial Review:

"Judy can pat the bunny. Now you pat the bunny." This Golden Book paperback edition is written and illustrated by Dorothy Kunhardt and is one of our classic toddler books. In this beloved classic, Paul and Judy play peekaboo, smell flowers, look in the mirror, and, of course, pat the bunny! All eight activities in this timeless favorite will fascinate your little one. Includes one stuffed animal bunny! This is a classic book to say goodnight with at the end of the day.

Seussian animals for everyone 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Reading this book is like taking a stroll down a Seussian zoo. It's one of my favorites, with its silly, clever rhymes, funny dialogues and interesting creatures. I like it more than "If I ran the zoo" (also by Dr. Seuss). Like all Seuss books, this one is great for introducing children to the love of reading.

Classic book, of course 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Please note that it is a bit long - definitely not a great readaloud for any child with a short attention span.

It also does jump around a lot. That's an asset in an early reader - it means that the kids can stop reading when they get frustrated and pick it up again when they're ready. They don't have to worry about remembering plot points for more than two pages.

I like this book, my nieces like it (when they're willing to sit through it), that's what matters.

I will note that some people might object to a picture depicting some violence and calling another (sentient?) creature "bad". I don't, but if you do, please read before buying.

Excellent buy! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

These books are great! I have been reading them to my son since he was just a few months old. Now, at almost 12 months, he really gets a kick out of turning the pages (nice and sturdy)and laughing when I make the animal noises. The only problem is that I don't know what many of the more "exotic" animals sound like!

Beautiful, off-beat books. 5 out of 5 stars.

Our baby girl loves these books. They're pretty well indestructible. The artwork is charming and a little trippy. The panda book in particular is simply gorgeous.

Highly recommended.

ABC Book about vehicles 4 out of 5 stars.

Our 19 month old likes this book. The vehicles are funny. I would not buy it just to learn ABC's. He looks at it for the different vehicles.

tiny truck book 5 out of 5 stars.

the perfect size for dropping in your purse for keeping a little boy entertained...my son loves the big richard scarry 'cars and trucks and things that go' which is too big to take along, so this is great for portability.

Great book for the car! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

After reading many reviews on here, I bought this book wondering what I'd get. It seems that most reviews here are either very strongly liking this book or very strongly not liking it (it's a kid's book for gosh sakes!)

Anyway, my son loves this book! It's the perfect size to hand him in the car or leaf through and talk about at a restaurant while waiting for food. The book is silly and fun- so please lighten up if you're not sure what a "corn car" is or whatever. Richard Scarry wasn't afraid to use his imagination, and was a lot of fun as a result.

It's an inexpensive book that takes a few minutes to flip through. Golden, in my eyes!

Nancy's Favorite Fancy Words 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this for my 4 year old granddaughter who is definitely a girly girl! She is also behind in her reading ability. She loved this book and it really fired her interest much to my delight.

Fancy Nancy stories don't let you down. 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My 3 1/2 year old was excited when she got it and a month later asks for it to be read. She loves learning new words so it made sense to buy a book that has the character she loves who also loves to learn the words within.

Editorial Review:

Fancy Words Are Simply Fascinating!

From everyone's favorite fancy girl comes an alphabetical guide to enhancing vocabulary. Why say beautiful when there are fancy words like gorgeous and glamorous? Instead of hello, try bonjour, which is French and so much fancier. An umbrella will keep you dry, but a parasol will make you feel like a Hollywood movie star!

With this helpful A-to-Z guide, Fancy Nancy shows that making plain words into fancy ones is not only educational, it's fun!

mixed review 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

We all love this story in spite of the sassy, disobedient protagonist. I edit out the rude or negative words when I read it to the kids. The other day I was shocked to find my son standing on a child's chair which he had placed on top of another chair to reach the top of the fridge (where I keep his art stuff). He definitely got this idea from Pinkalicious. Luckily I caught him before he got hurt, but I decided to put Pinkalicious away for a while...

Cute with a little tweaking 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

We received this as a gift, and my 3 year old daughter honestly loves it. However when reading aloud it I recommend the following modifications:

- Skip the embellishments about how gross the vegetables are. We just say she ate her brussles sprouts, green beans, etc. and we point at all of the green foods on the page that my daughter eats.
- We also say "NO, PINKALICIOUS!" when we see her standing on a tower of furniture to reach the cupcakes on top of the refrigerator.
- I also usually mention that WE don't eat 6 cupcakes like Pinkalicious does because that is TOO MANY!
- And it is not really possible to swing from the chandelier

The book has a few bothersome points like this but it is also a light and fluffy story that we enjoy. Hopefully by the time my daughter can read it to herself she will be old enough to ignore the negative messages.

Editorial Review:

Pink, pink, pink. More than anything, Pinkalicious loves pink, especially pink cupcakes. Her parents warn her not to eat too many of them, but when Pinkalicious does . . . she turns pink! What to do?

This sparkling picture book, filled with such favorites as pink bubble gum, pink peonies, pink cotton candy, and pink fairy princess dresses, celebrates all things pink while showing that being yourself is best of all.

Love, love, love! A true classic! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The cute rhymes as you teach your child(ren) the alphabet, only as Dr. Seuss can do! Very entertaining to the child as they learn and for the person reading it to them. It's not too wordy. A must have!

Editorial Review:

BIG R, little r,
what begins with R?
Rosy's red rhinoceros.
R...r...R

From Aunt Annie's Alligator to Rosy's red rhinoceros to a Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuzz, learning the alphabet is bound to be fun with Dr. Seuss. And with this small, sturdy board-book version of his classic ABC book (Dr. Seuss's ABC), even the tiniest tots can indulge in a little alphabetical education. Each letter is featured with Dr. Seuss's unmistakably nonsensical illustrations and text: "Lion with a lollipop," "Camel on the ceiling," "Uncle Ubb's umbrella and his underwear, too." The youngest readers-to-be will get lots of letter practice with the repetitive use of each letter and the easy-to-memorize rhythmic rhymes. Soon your favorite preschooler will be reading this book aloud to you! (Baby to preschool) --Emilie Coulter
