I've bought 8 of these over the past 20 years! 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this for my daughter and later I bought it for friends' children. I'll probably search for it for my grandchildren too. You can probably guess that I like it! Buying for kids is such fun because you get the wow factor, and then you get to see whether they really take to it by reading/playing with it. Kids don't fib about this stuff, do they! I can report 100% success. The enthusiam they have for all the hidden messages, cards, games is so sweet. This truly is a gift that grows and grows on them.

Note - if you have to get a used one, verify all the bits are included. The book wouldn't work without those.

Christmas Cards! 5 out of 5 stars.

If you liked the Jolly Postman, you will love this book too! It's all the fun of opening up your favorite fairy tale characters' mail with a Christmas theme! This book is super cute. I love opening up the letters from their individual envelopes. I am also always amazed by the art work. Every time I look through this book, I notice new little details that I didn't see before. Two big thumbs up!

Editorial Review:

It's Christmas Eve and the Jolly Postman is delivering greetings to various fairy-tale characters - there's a card for Baby Bear, a game appropriately called 'Beware' for Red Riding Hood from Mr. Wolf, a get-well jigsaw for hospitalized Humpty Dumpty and three more surprise envelopes containing letters, cards, etc.

An enchanting tale 5 out of 5 stars.

Owl Babies is an enchanting book which my six year old Daughter first discovered when we borrowed it from our local library. It conveys perfectly, the fact that it is normal to worry about things, but that everything usually works out in the end - if you just have hope!

I was unable to obtain this book in the UK as it is now out of publication, however I was delighted when I discovered that it could be bought from the US. The only difference in the UK & US version is the use of 'Mummy' in our version & 'Mommy' in the US version - this of course does absolutely nothing to spoil our enjoyment of this excellent book.

all moms love this book :-) 5 out of 5 stars.

This is just the sweetest book.... Any mom (or dad) would think this one of the best books around. The illustrations are beautiful. Just the right amount of tension for a little one - mommy goes away for a while - and then mommy comes back with food. We got this as a gift because we remembered it so fondly from when we read it to our son. It's a bit more "obscure" than "Goodnight Moon" so we figured no one else would think of it.

Editorial Review:

A story in which three baby owls wake up one night in their hole in a tree to find that their mother has gone. Darkness gathers and the owls grow anxious, until at last she returns and they bounce up and down with joy. Illustrated by Patrick Benson in full colour.

Always a favorite 5 out of 5 stars.

This has been a favorite of mine for years. It is perfect for 1 to 3 year olds. The one with words is great for the older ones.

This board book is tops! 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought a copy of this book to have at home when our nearly two-year-old grandson comes to visit, and he loved it so much I immediately sent for another for him to take home with him. There are many board books, but not many classy ones. This one is. It has plenty (over 35) of lift-the-flaps to explore, but there is so much more, too. The illustrations are beautiful, with muted colors, both indoor and outdoor scenes, and both active and quiet activities. There are lots of things to count on each page, and items of different colors, too, so toddlers can practice these skills. The best is the last double-page spread, with all the houses with flaps. You can look inside each one and see what the people are doing. Our grandson loves all his books, but this one is special, and he loves to sit by himself and look at it, lifting all the flaps, as well as have someone read it with him. It's a truly fine book.

Editorial Review:

Raymond Briggs's wintry hero comes to life and takes a young boy on an unforgettable adventure in this enchanting retelling for the very youngest listeners.

Just OK 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Review by Sherry North, Author, Because You Are My Baby

Eric Carle is a favorite in our house, but this is one of his weaker titles. The illustration of the spider spinning her web barely changes from one page to the next, and there's no clever twist that "makes" the book, like in A Very Hungry Caterpillar. After reading it to our son once, he never seemed interested in looking at it again - but he does ask for Carle's other books often.

the very busy spider 5 out of 5 stars.

My son had a copy of this that he had to return. He had the paperback with the raised web that you could trace with your fingers. Grandma bought a replacement which was a flap book instead..... just wasn't the same, so we bought the paperback on line, and it was the immediate success of the past.......

Editorial Review:

Early one morning a little spider begins to spin her web on a fence post. In this multi-sensory book, children can feel the pictures as well as see them, while they hear or read the easy rhythmic text. Alongside the visual excitement of Eric Carle's vibrant collages of familiar animals is the tactile experience of feeling the spider's web as it grows from a simple line into a complex and beautiful creation - a perfect story for reading aloud and sharing.

One of the favorites 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Harry the Dirty Dog was undoubtedly a favorite of my children 25 years ago. I read it over and over. Despite the repitition, I also love this book. There is a rhythmn to the prose that makes it as fun to read as it is to listen to. I'm thrilled to see it again so that I may purchase it for my grandchild.

Harry is a lucky name in literature, ain't it? 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I absolutely adored this book when I was little, so of course I was pleased when one of my first graders picked it up at the school library and beged me to read it for our class read-aloud this afternoon. Since we have recently discussed thinking about characters' emotions as we read, this was a perfect exercise--the text never actually says just what the cute little dog Harry is feeling during his adventure of getting dirty. And if you think about it, his tale is quite poignant. Anway, comprehension lessons aside, my kids were glued to the story and we had a great discussion afterwards. The writing is brisk and fun and subtle, leaving plenty to the readers' assumptions. The black and white pictures are adorable, detailed, and full of expression. Really, not many people write like this anymore.

What a wonderful book for children . . . 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

I just received this book and was so impressed with the message to help remind us all (big or small) the reason for celebrating Christmas while still acknowledging other activities of the season many enjoy. This book really provides a good balance while still stressing that the reason for season is the birth of Jesus. I will be recomending this book on my site www.christmasorganizing.com as a top pick for children's Christmas books.

Great Book to explain the real meaning of Christmas 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book is a great way to explain to our children that Christmas is not just for gifts and all the other great things that go with celebrating Christmas. It shows that Jesus is the real reason we celebrate Christmas.
Great Christmas book

Editorial Review:

This book is intended for ages 4-8. Here is a book for toddlers that resolves the dilemma many parents have as they attempt to reconcile their religious faith with the secular celebration of Easter. The author first asks the question: Is this what Easter means? By the end of the story, even the youngest child will agree with the author, "Now I get it, the eggs are fun and the Easter bunny is okay, but Easter's not about that stuff. It's about God's son."

Restaurant Favorite 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Whenever we go out to eat, we are sure to take this book along. It keeps my little boy (11 months) entertained while we wait for our food, and works like a charm. There is nothing better when he is screaming his head off than to pull out this book and presto, instant smile. He touches and feels and tries so hard to say baa at the sheep at bark at the dog. It is well worth the money. And so far it has held up remarkably well (even though there is rice in the dogs fur and cheese on the lambs wool).

Great Cards! 5 out of 5 stars.

My 2 year old enjoys this set a lot. She loves touching the furry parts of the cards and they are super sturdy (cardboard). There are about 5 cards that are way to hard for her limited vocabulary so we make up the names, other than that they are great!

Perfect book for infant 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This was my daughter's first board book and the first book she took an interest in. She loved the photographs of the animals, as opposed to drawn illustrations. The book includes a variety of textures and recognizable farm animals.

Editorial Review:

In this brand-new touch-and-feel series, children can lift the fluffy animals and sparkly machines off the pages and play with them outside of the book!

This is a lovely book for children - the fireflies that light up at the end is a real hit!

Editorial Review:

One night a very lonely firefly goes off in search of friends. Each time he sees a flicker of light he flies off toward it, but none of them turn out to be fireflies. He sees a lantern, an owl's eyes, even headlights shining in the darkness. Will the lonely firefly ever find creatures like himself?

A classic in its own time, The Very Lonely Firefly is finally available in a beautiful board book format, perfect for the youngest readers and the smallest hands. And just as in the hardcover edition, the fireflies' lights actually light up, delighting children of all ages.

The book is delightful. My two year old grandson loves all of Sandra Boynton's books. He is learning to count and ONE,TWO,Three is a great book to start that process. The book came in excellent shape.

And when you want to go explore, the number you should have is FOUR! 4 out of 5 stars.

This is a counting book, so, if you know how to count, you know the drill.

It's a lot funnier than most counting books and, bonus, pretty durable.

I really recommend this book to anybody who has not yet (shock! horror!) bought anything by Boynton. Those who *have* don't need *my* advice anymore, do they?

Our favorite bed time story 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My three year old loves this book. We love Carle's works overall anyway. I bought this one on clearance at a store because it didn't chirp anymore. I got a really great deal on it. Then my little one enjoyed the story so much that it became an integral part of her bed time routine. So we picked up a copy of the board book too. Now she reads the board book while I read the big one. She can recite the whole thing with me for the most part. And her's chirps at the end. She is so cute reading her own copy and the repetition is great!

not worth it! 1 out of 5 stars.

I have ordered two of these and one didn't "chirp" and the other's cover was all bent up.

It is a cute story, but borrow it from the library and buy another Eric Carl book instead!

Editorial Review:

A little cricket has lost his song, so he sets off to find his voice and meets all kinds of creatures who make all kinds of noises, but still he can make no sound at all. He eventually meets a special friend - another cricket - and then he makes "the most beautiful sound you have ever heard".
