Not Olivia's best 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My kids LOVE Olivia, but this one falls short. It is short and has no real story.

Nothing special, unless you just LOVE Olivia 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

If you are an Olivia nut, then I guess I can see the appeal, but otherwise, there is absolutely nothing special about this book. The photos are dull, the choices of opposites are nothing interesting, and I don't find the photos very intuitive for explaining them. Looks like just another way to make a few bucks from what others seem to explain are already drawn pictures thrown into a new format.

Try BIG Little or Quiet LOUD by Leslie Patricelli for good explorations of those words at least...really relevant ones for little kids (there's also Yummy Yucky, but I haven't read that one yet!)

Editorial Review:

Everyone's favourite piglet is once again a star in these two delightful board books Once again Olivia delights and entertains us in this charming board book all about opposites. She's up, she's down! She's quiet, she's loud! She's plain, she's fancy! Keep up with Olivia as she changes her mind about clothes and direction and everything in between in this fun book about opposites.

My daughter is 2 and loves this book along will all of Sandra Boynton's other books. She can't get enough of them. You will laugh so hard when you read them all. She has a wonderful since of humor and the books are very easy to read. My daughter has many of them memorized already, so do my husband and I from reading them over and over. This book along with her other ones are a must have.

Birthday Monsters 5 out of 5 stars.

Love this book! My two year old grandson has me read this at least 10 times a day! He calls it "favorite".

Another Boynton hit! 5 out of 5 stars.

Another Boynton fun book. A great 'read to me' book and also good for early readers. I left it on my grandson's night stand so he would have it when he woke up on his 5th birthday. The story has 5 birthday monsters so it was perfect.

Good book, apparently a classic (who knew?) 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is a good book of a few rhyming couplets featuring fairy tale and nursery rhyme characters, perfect length to catch the attention of a young child - and enough detail in the pictures to keep the attention of an older one!

For those people who are concerned about this sort of thing, there are some references to "the Wicked Witch" (she's not shown being any more wicked than anybody else, and she eats pie with her neighbors at the end. Wicked is just her name, I guess) in the book, and there are also a few images of the three bears being very careless with guns while hunting. I don't find that this hampers our enjoyment of this book, but if these are sensitive topics for your family, you may want to check the book out of the library before committing to a purchase.

Editorial Review:

A children's favorite, now available in a board book edition

In this book
With your little eye
Take a look
And play "I spy"

This interactive book invites young children to play the classic "I spy" game. The rhymed verses give youngsters clues about who to look for in the detailed illustrations. Little ones will be delighted when they spy Tom Thumb, Jack and Jill, The Three Little Bears and many other nursery rhyme characters hiding in the pictures. This sturdy new board book edition is perfect for a book that will be picked up again and again.

A Classic Tail...er, Tale 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

THE TALE OF PETER RABBIT, by Beatrix Potter, has enchanted both children and adults for generations. An exciting adventure book for the wee ones, THE TALE OF PETER RABBIT is the story of Peter, who is very naughty. Peter disobeys his mother, and goes to Mr. McGregor's garden, where he gets into all manner of trouble. While Peter does eventually make it home, he is wet, sick, and has lost his clothes (his second set of clothes in a fortnight!), and his mother gives him chamomile tea for supper. His sisters, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail, who are good little bunnies, get bread and milk and blackberries for supper.

THE TALE OF PETER RABBIT gently teaches children to mind their mothers - good little children are given rewards, naughty children get into trouble. This simple tale engages and captivates youngsters who can easily relate to Peter's mischievousness. And while that lesson and Ms. Potter's story are both timeless, it is Ms. Potter's charming illustrations that are the true star of this book. Peter is drawn to look like a real rabbit; a rabbit that wears a very dapper jacket and a little pair of shoes. The soft colors and rich detail of the original drawings continue to delight children throughout the ages.

My three year old adores hearing this story. Whenever we read it together, she loves to shout "Stop thief!" with Mr. McGregor and to sneeze "Kertyschoo!" with Peter. She clearly gets great fun and joy out of this classic tale, as do I. All of Beatrix Potter's tales are delightful to share; however, THE TALE OF PETER RABBIT holds a special place in our hearts.

Editorial Review:

Beatrix Potter's classic tale of the mischievous little rabbit who hops into trouble in Mr. MacGregor's vegetable garden is lovingly reillustrated by master artist Cyndy Szekeres. Full color.

remember this is the "old" version... 1 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Having not seen the orginal Rudolph TV show in a very long time I forgot what the story line was... remember that in this version of the story the snowman eats reindeers and apparently elves or anything else that would be upsetting to a child. There are a couple of scary illustrations in this book. My 3 year old was in love with the Rudolph movie but once he saw this book he refused to ever have anything to do with Rudolph again because he said he "didn't like the scary snowman". Yes, I know it's a classic, but be warned.

Love this book! 5 out of 5 stars.

If you're looking for the story about Hermie, the Abdominal, Yukon Corneilius and the Island of Misfit Toys, this is NOT your book! This book is the original story written in 1939. It is written in poetry form and it is beautiful. It is very well illustrated and a definite keeper. My kids loved this book even though the local heroes weren't in it. I would buy it as a keepsake if nothing else. It's well worth the money.

Educational 5 out of 5 stars.

This very cute book has pictures of real "neighborhood animals" and is a good educational book for little ones. My 14 mo. old enjoys it every time I read it to her. It has approx. 8-10 animals inside and also has questions for your little one to answer about each picture. Also lets you know more in detail about each animal.

Jungle Book 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I thought The Jungle Book is a great book for younger kids to read! The Jungle Book is about a little boy who has to go to a man village for his own safety, but he doesn't want to go. A mean tiger named Shere Khan, wants to get rid of the little boy and thats why he is recommended to go to the village. The Jungle Book is a great bed time story!

Don't forget Kipling. 3 out of 5 stars.

The Disney version has of course the cute characters from the animated version. I'm a fan of Baloo and Louie but don't stop with just the Disney version.(...)

Just OK 2 out of 5 stars.

I think that this book is too condensed. I am trying to get my daughter familiar with the jungle book for the DVD release in October and this book was a start but it leaves a lot to be desired.

The Bear Necessities! 5 out of 5 stars.

As I child, this story was read to me, then I read this to our son, sadly, after he "out grew" these books, they were passed on. Happily, after searching all over I found these treasures on Amazon and now have a new collection for our beautiful grand daughter to enjoy.

Editorial Review:

Hanging out in the jungle can be lots of fun–just ask Mowgli! Now toddlers can enjoy Disney’s The Jungle Book with a board book made especially for them.

A family favorite 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I love this book. I won this book as a readathon prize 20 years ago when I was seven. I think the target audience for this book is probably more likely to be kids aged 3-6. It was a definite favorite of my little brother's - he learnt the words off by heart before he could read. It is also a favorite of my nieces and nephews, and I have just ordered one for my baby who is due any day now. The really fantastic thing about this book is that it is actually a fun read for adults too - If my nieces ask me to read them a book I always grab a Hairy Maclary. They are just the right length, and have enough of a storyline to keep you entertained as well.

A joy to read outloud 5 out of 5 stars.

Lynley Dodd is a FANTASTIC author. I own a ton of her books. I love them, children love them. The characters are characters you instantly fall in love with. The vocabulary Dodd uses is creative and intelligent, and leads to great conversations with kids. The books rhyme and remind me of Dr. Seuss without the nonsense words.

You won't be disappointed with Dodd's books.

Editorial Review:

Hairy Maclary goes off for a walk in town, followed by a few friends. All is uneventful until they meet Scarface Claw, the toughest tom cat in town, and run for home.

Editorial Review:

In this first counting book, Max trades his house with 2 chimneys, 3 soldiers, 4 bears, and all the rest of his toys for Ruby's 1 lovely doll, Emily. A fair exchange! Rosemary Wells's original four Max Board Books, published in 1979 by Dial and followed by an additional four in 1985, were the first high-quality board books in the U.S. and became immediate classics. Total sales of the eight books were over 1.2 million! But more important, they have been loved by millions of children. For the next generation Rosemary Wells has now completely re-illustrated all eight delightful Max books in her bold, new full-color style. These wonderful stories with real characters are funnier than ever. They are terrific first books, especially with the increased focus on the importance of reading to babies and toddlers, a cause that Mrs. Wells has been wholeheartedly promoting for several years with her The Most Important 20 Minutes of Your Day reading program and now the Prescription for Reading Initiative.

A wonderful classic, boardbook ed. slightly abridged 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I loved this book as a child, now my baby does, too.

This new boardbook edition (2008) is slightly different from the original edition in that a drawing or two are different and the text has been changed slightly. I am making my comparison to a "full-sized" hardcover edition published many years ago that I checked out from my local public library.

"Caps for Sale" delivers. 5 out of 5 stars.

I remember having this classic book read to me when I was a young 'un and was one of my favorites. Now I'm reading it to my young kids and they are enjoying it as much as I did and am again.

And on the very top were... the RED caps! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My three year old son LOVES caps for sale! I bought the boardbook version for him because I knew it was a classic story and I remember liking it as a child. I have to admit I do think the words are a little dated or not detailed enough so sometimes I switch it up a bit adding and taking away here and there. It's a story that kids just seem to love, I recommend reading to your little one.
