We use this book in our kindergarten class. The students just laugh and laugh over the pictures of animals wearing clothes.

Great Read 5 out of 5 stars.

I work in a Nursery and I bought this book to read to the children. They loved it! They thought it was hilarious.

Cute title 3 out of 5 stars.

Cute title but the book was a little too old for my two year old grandaughter. Not sure she got the concept of animals wearing or not wearing clothes.

Very nice book for any child 4 out of 5 stars.

I really liked this book and bought it for my newphew, who is 4. I thought it was silly and somewhat unlike other books I had read. There are simple words or phrases that he can possibly learn to read. There are cute drawings in the book. It gets the imagination flowing.

Editorial Review:

Animals should definitely not act like people.

...because it would be foolish for a fish, so silly for a sheep, and preposterous for a panda -- as Ron Barrett's wonderfully detailed drawings show.

This book will show children a new way of looking at animals and people, even as they laugh.

The Napping House is my all time favorite book to give to new moms and grandmas!! It's fun to read and the illustrations are absolutely delightful!! A MUST HAVE for all young people's libraries!!

A favorite at our house! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is one of my 16-month old's favorite books. She can't wait for each of them to wake up and make a loud noise and then she thinks it's so funny when they go outside to play in the sun and then asks for me to read it again!

Editorial Review:

A classic cumulative bedtime story is presented in a pocket-sized edition for small hands and demonstrates the consequences of piling too many sleepy people and animals in one cozy bed.

Very Babyish 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I thought it would be more like I Feel Silly which it is not. Very babyish - one line sentences. I think the illustrations are not as clear as other books and looks like a mish-mash of colors. My just 5 year old is not interested in it.

Fun and Engaging, but Not her Best 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

You know, this is my least favorite read by Curtis and Cornell thus far...and I'm actually of two minds about it. On one hand, it's got all the trademark things we love about her books - wonderful illustrations that are zany, vivid and almost a story in-and-of themselves, and text that is both silly and hits home with kids. I simply adore the idea of a four year old and her Memoir...that's such an unexpected thing, but it's charming and adorable at the same time! I think that this book is an excellent springboard for a larger lesson on memories; giving parents and/or teacher the opportunity to challenge their young readers (or listeners) to make their own memoir in a similar vein or leading to discussion about what the kids in a reading group/story time remember from when they were "still little."

On the other hand, it's got reference to junk food (by name even...Captain Crunch, Cheetoes, ect..) and it give the message that by age 4 they won't have to ride in a car seat which simply isn't true...here in Ohio, kids have to be 4'9" before they can be without a child safety seat, this is NOT a good message for kids to be getting. Overall, I give it four stars, as I said, it'd make a great spring board for additional activities in reading, writing, drawing and a fantastic place to go from for discussion about growing and changing with young children...but the "product placement" and child seat thing make me less than happy with this book as a parent. I suspect with a subtle correction about oh...how silly, you have to be X years old, or X tall or weight X amount, the car seat thing is easy to overcome and the product placement...well, if kids have already been given proper eating information and have a healthy diet at home, the knowledge that they CAN eat Captain Crunch or Cheetoes every now and then is probably not too terrible a message for kids to get.

Editorial Review:

A popular film star offers a spirited tale about a four year old who delights in all the things she can do now that she is no longer a baby, including sharing secrets, painting toenails, and lots more. Children's BOMC Alt.

Two boys' review: Hollywoodesque and distracting illustrations 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The 5-star reviews for this book ignore the fact that Jan Brett's illustrations are Hollywoodesque and distracting from the classic poem itself. Betraying the golden rule -- If it isn't broken, don't fix it -- Brett inserts in to additional characters. Nearly a third of the book features two unnamed elves who play with the toys and generally cause havoc on the roof as Santa fills the stockings.

Instead of enhancing Clement Moore's poem, the illustrations scream for attention. The effect drowns out the lyrical quality of this classic story. Often on facing pages you are bombarded with two full-page illustrations bookended by six additional panels, three on each side. Your eyes can only skip and stutter across the pages or risk losing any semblance of a storyteller's cadence.

This book was especially disappointing because earlier during that same bedtime reading session we enjoyed Christmas Magic by Sue Stainton and illustrated by Eva Melhuish. That book is an excellent example of how the marriage of story and illustrations can work magic for children.

I wrote a 5-star review for a beautiful version of Clement Moore's The Night Before Christmas illustrated by Douglas W. Gorsline and recommend you buy that book instead. Don't give up hunting for an out-of-print copy, if necessary. Gorsline's illustrations are heartwarming and true to the original poem.

Editorial Review:

Clement Moore's beloved poem has been a cherished part of the holidays for over a hundred and fifty years, and Tasha Tudor's delicate watercolors make this book a gift to her readers. Recreating her own Vermont farm home, her illustrations enliven the poem with all the charm of an old-fashioned country Christmas: handmade gifts under a candle-lit tree, stockings hanging by an open fire, and a magical visit from Saint Nicholas.

Tasha Tudor's affectionate watercolors evoke the warmth and gentleness of a simpler time. Her whimsical characters and period detail are the perfect match for the world's most beloved Christmas poem, making this elegant gift edition one that will be treasured by families for generations.

Spot-On Positive Vibes for Adopted Kids and their Parents 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Tell Me Again... is my favorite storybook about adoption. The little girl whose voice we hear is a happy and proud teller of her own adoption tale, and her parents' essences come through loud, clear and wonderfully human. The illustrations provide kids with zillions of fun things to detect, and everyone finishes the story with a smile on their face. My only complaint: I couldn't find it in hardback. Since this book will be read a hundred times you need a sturdy version.

Editorial Review:

Tell me again about the night I was born.

Tell me again how you would adopt me and be my parents.

Tell me again about the first time you held me in your arms.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Laura Cornell, author and illustrator of the best-selling When I Was Little: A Four Year Old's Memoir of Her Youth, have joined together again to create a fresh new picture book for every parent and every child. In asking her parents to tell her again about the night of her birth, a young girl shows that it is a cherished tale she knows by heart.

Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born is a unique, exuberant story about adoption and about the importance of a loving family.

Perfect birthday gift for a new baby 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is a lovely gift for a new baby (forget the layette items, people get too many anyway!) - this and On the Night You Were Born are the books I send to all the new people I know. The sentiment in this book is perfect. In the prose-like text of this book, the little one is welcomed by the earth - the pictures are bold and fun to look at. I love it.

The Little One Enjoys It...Me, Not So Much 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 3 people found this review helpful.

My 1 yr old son enjoys having this read to him; however, my tongue doesn't. I find this book miserable to read. Unlike other books which tend to have more rhyme and rhythm, this one just has waaaaaaay too many adjectives and I find myself stumbling over the long sentences. Sometimes I even leave a few words out!

You may argue that it's the message that really counts (albiet this book tends to be a little mushy about it), but at the end of day, after having had my patience tried more times than I'd like to think, having to plow through this book is the last thing I want to do.

The illustrations are wonderful and my son DOES enjoy the book, and so I give it three stars for that.

Editorial Review:

A lyrical story celebrates the natural wonders of the planet and describes how the animals of the world spread the news of a new arrival, in a boxed gift edition set that is accompanied by a decorated rattle.

Excellent Children's series! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Little Critter is not having a great day but by the end of the book it becomes better for him. These are great read-along books for your budding readers. I have at least two whole sets of this series as my children plan to pass them onto their children to read.

For a 3-year-old or a 20-year-old 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this book for my grandnephew that is 3 years old and has a very quick little temper. My son who is now 20 grew up with Mercer Mayer books and he enjoyed reading this short story too. The next thing I knew I was looking through boxes for all of his old books from childhood. Mercer Mayer clicks with kids.

Editorial Review:

Mercer Mayer's very popular Little Critter stars in a picture book about feeling angry. With minimal text and funny illustrations to spell out every new situation, the book shows the Critter family saying no to everything Little Critter wants to do. He can't keep frogs in the tub. He can't help paint the house. Finally, mad at the world, Little Critter announces he will run away. When pals come by and ask him to come and play baseball, our young hero's mood quickly changes. He grabs his bat and heads off for the game, telling himself he can run away another day if he is still so mad.

"Yes I'm going to my potty!"

The Package Includes:

  • An adorable mini book edition of Once Upon a Potty - boy

  • The Potty Song A fun lively tune that celebrates potty training.

  • The Joshua & Prudence Theme A swinging jazz song featuring the characters of the Once Upon a Potty books.

  • A personal introduction for both parents and children from author Alona Frankel.

  • Read Along! A Full reading book with musical highlights.

  • Sing Along! A lyric sheet featuring the words to "The Potty Song" and "The Joshua & Prudence Theme."

    Dear Fellow-Parents,

Once Upon a Potty is best used as a companion volume to a child's new potty. I wrote this book when my own child was toilet training to help him better understand the process. My son was encouraged and excited by this story. It motivated him to make the developmental leap from diaper to potty.

Learning to use the potty is often a lengthy process, taxing the patience of both parent and child. When success finally comes--and it should come in its own good time, without undue pressure or haste--it enhances the child's confidence and pride. He has taken another step toward independence. He sat on the potty as a little child and got up feeling ten-feet tall.

It's one small step for mankind, but a giant one for your family.

    Love,
    Alona

Fun book for the under 8 crowd! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

As a mom I love Mouse Paint! There is depth to the story. In addition, the innovative introduction of concepts with primary colors is just plain fun. Reading for reading is always good. But reading to teach information opens up new horizons for lifelong learning. The whole book has me smiling all the way through. It is short so when it becomes a beloved favorite -- and it will be a favorite guaranteed! -- you can easily get through it to the satisfaction of all. This is the type of book I tell my friends about.

This edition in hardback would be nice as a gift.

Color mixing for the little ones 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Ellen Stoll Walsh teaches color mixing in this entertaining story about 3 white mice who find three jars of primary colored paint. I read this book to my kinders before they did their own color mixing art project and they just loved it!

The pictures, created with cut-paper, are just darling. This is worth having in any classroom or home library.

    Editorial Review:

One day three white mice discover three jars of paint--red, blue, and yellow. Both parents and children alike will appreciate this lighthearted presentation of a lesson in color. “Walsh’s cut-paper collage illustrations have bold colors and just the right simplicity for the storyline. A real charmer that’s great fun as well as informative.”--School Library Journal

If your child loves Maisy books as much as mine does, definitely add this one to your collection! Not only are the pictures colorful and inviting, but it also makes going to the doctor seem fun and exciting! Plus, it's always great to see Maisy and her friends playing different roles and doing fun things! Each page brings delight to my child's eyes!

Great book 5 out of 5 stars.

My 2-year-old daughter loves Maisy books, and this one is another great hit with her. She is now not afraid of the doctor after reading this book! Very cute.

A sweet way to make doctors less scary 5 out of 5 stars.

It took me a while to warm to Maisy -- both the drawings and the language are incredibly simple -- but every kid I know just loves these books. I got this as part of a group of toys and books to prepare my son for his 2-year check-up, and while it may not be the most "informative," per se, it is certainly the one he likes best.
