HMMM, SHEEP DO THINK...I LIKE IT! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is another delightful book and is a part of a delightful series. The author and illustrator obviously work so well together. This time, as the title would indicate, our little herd of sheep visit a shop. They find they have not money, but unlike sheep (and so many people, when to think about it) come up with a very unique way around the problem. The rhyming text is as good as it gets and goes perfectly with the charming illustrations. The kids all seem to love this one and I must admit to enjoying it as much as they do when reading it to them. The only problem I have is that some of the rhyming lines stick in my head like a broken record, which, in a way, is sort of nice. recommend this one highly.

Sheep in a Shop 5 out of 5 stars.

Someones birthday is coming. They are shopping for the big day. They are looking for a birthday present. They found blocks. They buy a ball. They tried to get the ball. It fell. They got the presents and wrapped the presents. The sheep got the money. They got the presents. They cut their hair. They gave their hair to the guy in the store. They went to the birthday party and they had fun. This was a pretty good book.

Editorial Review:

The "lovable muttonheads" are off to the store in search of the perfect birthday gift in this latest in the sheep series of rhymed read-alouds.

I didn't like the DVD, the book is much better and I thought it was expensive for what was offered. My son who is 3 years old, didn't really like the DVD either.

Great video for boys 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great video for boys because it shows boys and using the potty. My 2 year-old son is very interested in watching it and will sit still for this short video. Good for beginning the potty training process.

Editorial Review:

Toilet training! It can be agonizing, frustrating, elusive, and seemingly impossible. Whatever it is, it usually isn't easy. At last there's an honest, amusing book about the struggles and triumphs of toilet training. It's available in "Hers" and "His" editions to help parents and toddlers work through the trauma of training.

This book is awful! 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The original monster at the end of this book was one of my favorites as a child and my 14 month old son loves it too, so when I saw this book I was excited to get it. It is so bad I can't even read it to my son. They try to copy the original, but they tried to hard. Adding Elmo doesn't help. I was very disappointed with the book. Stick with the original. The Monster at the End of This Book (Big Bird's Favorites Brd Bks)

Very Cute 4 out of 5 stars.

This is a cute follow up on the original. But almost too similar. Not a must have, but cute.

Typical sequel 3 out of 5 stars.

This book was fine for the price; however, it didn't surprise me that the sequel was not as good as the original! Had I been able to read this book prior to purchasing it, I would not have purchased it.

Great book for little people 5 out of 5 stars.

I had and loved this book's sister, 'Monster at the end of this book', as a child. I had the book for my kids which made it through my first two unscathed. When my last child (2 yr old) go a hold of it, that was the end. So this board book was a great solution. I got it's 'sister' in the board book format also. I just love the drama that Grover (and Elmo) provide in this book.

Editorial Review:

In this sequel, furry old Grover is still fearful of monsters--and he learns that there's another one at the end of this book! Just who is the monster at the end of this book?

A Grandmother's Love 5 out of 5 stars.

Still waiting for grandchildren, I saw this and had to purchase it for several gifts. It's such a sweet read.......to yourself or to your favorite grandchild. I did tuck one away for the 'future'......just too good to miss.......you should, too!

Editorial Review:

"Even before you were born,
I was your grandma
and I loved you."

A loving grandmother eagerly awaits the arrival of her grandchild. She dreams of the baby's soft sighs, sweet smells, and tiny toes, and imagines the infant smiling, rolling over, and crawling for the first time. Finally, the baby arrives and Grandma is ready with a very special message.

Tender and touching, Anne Bowen's I Loved You Before You Were Born perfectly conveys the magical anticipation of birth and the Joy a new child brings to a family. Greg Shed's rich, luminescent paintings capture the love and wonder of this blessed event.

Beautiful! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

The Sleep Ponies is a magical, warm, and absolutely beautiful book. The dream-like illustrations and gentle rhythm of the words lulls my girls to sleep at night.

This book ought to be on the shelf of every child's bookcase.

Highly recommended!

A child's library should include this book 5 out of 5 stars.

A beautiful story for bedtime with magical illustrations that captivated even my 11 month old niece. I enjoyed reading it to her as much as she liked hearing it!

Help your imaginative child get to sleep! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This beautiful story gave my creative 8-year-old daughter (who loves horses)a new way to be willing to fall asleep. When she asks me (nightly) "How should I fall asleep tonight, mama?" I can answer, "Just call your sleep ponies." The writing is young for her level of reading, but I think keeping it simple at bedtime is the way to go, anyway. It's not time to rev up the thinking mind, after all, just the dreaming mind.

Editorial Review:

A fanciful foray into the imagination of a child can be found in the delightfully written and dazzlingly illustrated new children's book, The Sleep Ponies. Author/illustrator Gudrun Ongman, a professional sculptor and painter, has transformed her mother's bedtime tale into a lyrical myth about magic ponies that carry children away to golden fields of dreams. The sweet story, the evocative, description prose, and the warm, soft watercolors all combine to captivate both parent and child as they journey together to the land of The Sleep Ponies.

Not my Favorite Eric Carle book 3 out of 5 stars.
13 of 14 people found this review helpful.

I normally love the Eric Carle books. My son usually loves them as well. This book is not my favorite, nor is it my son's favorite. I don't feel this is a good representation of his work.

The pictures are very cute and the idea is very imaginative.

However, the story itself is very clunky and is a bit much for a toddler to sit through. We just look at the pictures and don't try to really read the words.

Little Cloud 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Little Cloud is one of Carle's more recent books. Carle started illustrating and writing books in the late 1960s. Of the Carle books I've read there are only two that I don't enjoy: The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Very Greedy Snake as both are focused so heavily on gluttony.Little Cloud instead teaches through example the importance of being an individual and being a contributing member of a group.

Until the end, each page has a different shape that Little Cloud has created on his own. There's an airplane, a hat, and a variety of other shapes that children will easily recognize. In the end, his hat joins up with the other clouds who have together formed a clown.

Editorial Review:

Little Cloud floats through the sky, passing the time by reshaping himself into semblances of sheep, airplanes, sharks, and funny clowns, until a cluster of other clouds invites him to join in a rain-making party.

This book is to share. 5 out of 5 stars.

this is a wonderful, sweet, introspective book with precious, timeless illustrations. I plan on giving it as a gift to friends' children in the future.

Second generation read 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I was looking for something to send to my 4-year-old grandson and discovered this wonderful book that his father, now 44, loved when he was little. It is a complete delight, both for kids and the adults that have to read it (and read it, and read it...) to them. I still happily remember some of the definitions, these many years later. The text was written by children and the Maurice Sendak illustrations are priceless. This is one for the ages -- a real classic.

Editorial Review:

What would you say about eye-brows? Miss Krauss and the many children who made suggestions, re-visions, additions (and subtractions) to this book say, "Eyebrows are to go over eyes." A face? "A face is something to have on the front of your head." Also, "a face is so you can make faces." Hands? Well, hands are to hold. And also "a hand is to hold up when you want your turn." "A party is to say how-do-you-do and shake hands" and also "a party is to make little children happy." Of course, a brother is to help you, a package is to look inside, arms are to hug with, and a book is to look at.

And children will take this book of words and pictures to their hearts.

Disappointing Scratch-and-Sniff 2 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

Very disappointed in this scatch and sniff book. Smells were almost non-existent, very weak, and if you could smell the item, it didn't even smell like what it was supposed to be. Plus, the scratch and sniff area was about the size of a nickle, way too small for my toddler to easily scratch, let alone find. Don't waste your money.

Going, going....gone. 3 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

This is a nice easy reader book for my 6 year old daughter. The scratch n sniff was a fun added bonus. It worked well & had very accurate scents...but only for one reading. The second time she picked up the book to read & scratch she was very disappointed that the scents were gone. Don't expect it to last long. But on the other hand, it's a fun book that she still enjoys reading. If you can find this book on sale--great. Don't bother otherwise.

Editorial Review:

Christmas is coming!

The little girl knows just what needs to be done to get ready for Christmas -- choose a tree, back cookies, decorate the house -- but Biscuit is so excited he can't seem to sit still.

Scratch and sniff the scents to find out what that silly puppy has his nose in now!

A bedtime book with Maisy as the star 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Maisy is a mouse with her own television show on Nickelodeon. The show is done in a narrated style on the adventures of Maisy. The books are based on the Audio Visual Series.

Each book is based on a theme that carries over to the television show. On the left page is the text with the right page showing Maisy doing each task to prepare for bedtime.

Maisy has a toy panda that she likes to cuddle up with and the story starts with Maisy looking at the clock heading up the stairs with panda because they are sleepy and it is time for bed. Maisy wears a green jumper with a blue shirt.

Once Maisy is in her room she walks over to the window to draw the curtains, placing the panda on the windowsill. The owl is outside the window hooting, while we see the stars and the moon one last time before closing the curtains.

Maisy's Bedtime is a easy to follow format for any child to make part of their nightly routine. The similarities and routines for the mouse are the same for children of all ages. I think the only thing missing was going for the drink of water or milk like so many little ones do in stalling the inevitable bedtime.

The book has great vibrant colors that are the same as on the television show. Maisy has the pink ears and tail while Panda is black with the white tummy and face.

It would also be nice to have cassette tapes to go with the books so we could sing the Maisy song and hear the narrator's voice. Other than my two suggestions this is the perfect addition for the family library. Also the features of Maisy and the pictures are very easy to copy with my son drawing pictures of Maisy, plus we have the coloring book.

Really well drawn and written - nice updated version of the nursery rhyme. Its a wonderful story to sing and definitely a favourite bedtime book.

The most beautiful moments to have with your child 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is a must give present for any baby shower. I learned of this book from a pre school teacher. The familiar tune with all the consumerism taken out. In its place instead are lessons about teaching your child about the awe in nature and quiet moments bonding with Mommy. I love this book and at 3 years old, my son still insists that I "sing me the song book" to him before he goes to bed. We sing it together before he goes to bed. What a wonderful lullaby to sing your child. Illustrations are a little too "vintage" for me but the lesson is wonderful. My son seems to love the pictures though.

Editorial Review:

Hush little baby, don't say a word,
Mama's going to show you a hummingbird.
If that hummingbird should fly,
Mama's going to show you the evening sky.
From award-winning artist Sylvia Long comes a touching version of the well-known lullaby, Hush Little Baby. Each spread reveals a tender scene as a mama bunny lulls her baby bunny to sleep by enlisting a parade of bedtime wonders—the beauty of a hummingbird in flight; the magic of a harvest moon; the reassurance of a parent's hug, all these and more combine to create a classic volume sure to be treasured for generations to come.
