Small school 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I purchased a number of dictionaries to be used by all the students in a small school. The entries included pronunciation, syllabication, and multiple definitions. They are visually pleasing and thorough enough for third and fourth graders.

excellent children's dictionary 5 out of 5 stars.

I ordered the Scholastic Children's Dictionary for my third grader. When it arrived, he wanted to look at it, and couldn't put it down. It was interesting to him and well illulstrated.

the best movie ever!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I must have watched this movie thirty times in one month during college! A true classic script and especially performance by Jim Carrey, with nonstop manic nonsense and madness. Filled with tons of hilarious one liners and quotables from Carrey. I think it's Carrey's funniest performance, with Liar Liar second, and The Mask third. This was him making it to the big time as a comic actor and he holds nothing back. Author of Adjust Your Brain: A Practical Theory for Maximizing Mental Health.

Touching Story every body can see it 4 out of 5 stars.

One of the Best Reads Since Dracula 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I was recommended this book by a friend who had read it. I saw the movie first (I don't recommend that one) and wanted to know what the story was really like. I bought this one and consumed it in five days. My imagination was going wild as I read this, fueled by Paolini's vivid descriptions.

About a year ago, I read Dracula, and since then I haven't read a book that had me as gripped as this one did. I definitely recommend this one to all.

entertaining 3 out of 5 stars.

It is a good book to sit down and read as a family. My 6 year old boy got a little bored if we read it for longer than 15 min. But my 8 year old girl didn't want me to stop.

A wonderful book to hear 5 out of 5 stars.

I enjoyed listening to this book as I worked. The writing is descriptive and allows you to lose yourself in the story. After watching the movie, I recommend listening to these unabridged cds. The reader has a wonderful, clear voice that gives life to all the books characters.

Well written fantasy 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Paolini has a fabulous story in the Inheritance series, and Eragon is largely devoted to setting up questions that are to follow the reader through the later books. While Eragon does drag in a few places, I liked it well enough to read the later books, and this is an excellent series. If you enjoy fantasy like Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, or Harry Potter, these books will be right up your alley.

Reviewed by Austin McCredie (age 13) for Reader Views (8/08)

"Warriors: Cats of the Clans" is the story (told to three kits going to StarClan) of some of the most important cats in the Clans' lives that they never knew or would know. From the just ThunderClan to the battle-hungry ShadowClan, you learn some things you have never known or even thought of about the Clan Cats. Erin Hunter gives you new insight about your favorite cats of the Warrior series.

Erin Hunter wraps together many of the Cats spread throughout the series. Many cats we hardly remember are brought back to mind. I myself forgot about some of the Cats and what we remember them for. One of the Cats, Yellowfang, I completely forgot about -- "Brave, loyal Yellowfang, who fought enough battles for nine lifetimes."

I remember every cat now and have learned little details about each Cat that were never seen before. This is much better than the previous Field Guide and puts it to shame with what you learn. This book is complete with maps and full-color illustrations. The writing is from the viewpoint of one of the Cats, Rock. You feel like he is speaking to you. The flow of the book is so good; you don't see it as separate pages, but as one long telling. Although, sometimes I had to re-read something to fully understand what Erin Hunter was saying. The wording is very deep and confusing at points, but it helps add to understanding each Cat.

I am a huge fan of the Warrior series. I started reading the books in about fourth grade and haven't stopped since. The "Warriors: Cats of the Clans" has been a huge help to understanding the Cats a little more than just relying on the actual books to help you. I think this new book from Erin Hunter is a huge help to every true Warrior reader out there. New doors are opened through this book and new meanings to why each Cat behaved like he or she did.

Anyone who wants to re-meet the Cats of this wonderful series should get "Warriors: Cats of the Clans." Cats who we once knew, or that we are now being introduced to, or in the upcoming books, are here and have some things to tell you -- all you have to do is listen.

Editorial Review:

Hear the stories of the great warriors as they've never been told before! Cats of the Clans is chock-full of visual treats and captivating details, including full-color illustrations and in-depth biographies of important cats—from fierce Clan leaders to wise medicine cats to the most mischievous kits, as well as loners, rogues, and kittypets.

This collectible guide is a great introduction to the Warriors series for new fans and is indispensable for those already hooked!

I would recommend this book/audio to anyone.
It is fasinating to any one interested in US History and elploration of American. The book manymaps to relate to during yoour read. I later listened to the audio a year later and I really enjoyed it so much the second time through. I had read book reviews before and this one was claimed to the best about Lewis and Clark. Thumbs up!

Very Irked 1 out of 5 stars.

I believe this book was listed as Like New, Maybe Read Once.
Yes, it did look New, but it was absolutely saturated in cigarette smoke as if someone had smoked the whole time it had been read- not just the outside as if packed by a smoker. There was NO WAY I could hold it in front of me to read for hours- the stench was sickening as well as a health risk for me as an athsma patient. So, I put it out in the garage to see if it could be aired out, but after all this time, the smell has not dissipated much. I tried to contact the seller immediately upon arrival, but never figured out how to send a message until I received this review. I didn't pay very much, but I feel like I wasted my money, especially so since I have far less disposable income that I did in better economic times. So- for me, trading on Amazon wasn't a very good experience and am apprehensive to buy there again.

Excellent beginning book! 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

This book is excellent for the beginning art teacher and drawing student. I am basing a lot of my curriculum on ideas inspired by this book in my upcoming school year. It takes your thoroughly through each step/stage of learning to draw so that anyone can master it! Great illustrations and ideas are perfectly fit onto each page, without annoying "materpieces" that you don't think possible. By the end, you will be drawing with the best of them-- and students will too!

Editorial Review:

What do children hope to create when they put pencil to paper? An accurate likeness of the things they see, of course. With this imaginative, informative, and amply-illustrated guide to drawing, it's amazingly easy for kids to make those art dreams come true. After a brief overview of tools and materials, the entertaining hands-on activities begin with contour drawing techniques. With the help of lots of exercises, budding artists will learn the basic elements of shapes (lines, dots, circles) and see how to combine them to make familiar forms. They'll find out how to produce the illusion of volume with shading techniques; create perspective; accurately recreate landscapes, people, animals, and nature; develop interesting compositions; and more.

Editorial Review:

The strange, maniacal blue owl known as the Striga has been rousted from the Great Ga'Hoole Tree. Nyra, leader of the vicious Pure Ones, is either dead or laying low in some distant land, leaving the tree finally at peace. As if fed by an invisible spring, learning and the lively arts flourish at the great tree and spread throughout the owl kingdoms.

But unbeknowst to the Guardians, in a long-empty cave deep in the Northern Kingdoms two ruthless villains join forces to conjure an ancient evil, an evil that will do their bidding and wreak havoc on the world.

When word of this growing malevolence reaches Coryn, Soren, and the Band, the young king knows he must do two things: First, he must return the ember to the Sacred Volcanoes, for the same subtle emanation from the Ember of Hoole that stimulates the quest for knowledge and invention at the great tree, also magnifies the powers of those who seek to destroy it and all for which it stands. Second, he must gather allies. Two armies grow. Gadfeathers, bears, dire wolves, and greenowls join with the Guardians, while on the other side ancient evil takes to the sky.

A Grand Book 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The Visual Guide to the Clone Wars (based on the new animated film), is a remarkable book. Those who are familiar with the film, will find the book very easy to follow, and a delightful look into the film that goes at your pace.

The art is taken from the film, and 'panels' are inserted (and even numbered) so readers can follow the plot scene by scene. It's almost like this is a sophisticated storyboard for Clone Wars that took on a life of its' own. With the book, various elements in the film can be explained on a visual level, and inside jokes like 1138 can be got by savvy fans. (Think THX 1138).

Unlike many visual guides, this one weighs in at 144 pages of pure digital animation joy. Watching the film, I appreciated it, but missed some of the subtle plot nuances. This time, I got them.

The back of the book says it well. "A plan is only as goos as those who see it through". Perhaps this is a reference to the Scorcerors Apprentice, "Finish What you Start".

Either way, the Clone Wars rocks.

Editorial Review:

Since the first time we heard Luke Skywalker ask Obi-Wan Kenobi "You fought in the Clone Wars!?" in Episode IV: A New Hope, fans the world over have been wondering exactly what the Clone Wars were and what clones in combat would look like. On August 15th, 2008, with the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, much will be explained. The Clone Wars take place between Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Lucasfilm is now bringing the wars to life in an all-new CGI animated series.

The theatrical release will launch this groundbreaking computer-generated animated series, which will then debut on Cartoon Network and TNT in the fall. New characters like female Padawan Ahsoka Tano join old favorites Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, Count Dooku, General Grievous, and others as the Jedi cross lightsabers with the dark side yet again.

It's an okay book 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Thanksgiving on Thursday is an okay book because it is about a boy (Jack) and a girl (Annie) that go back in time to the first feast of thanksgiving. They help a woman prepare for the first Thankgiving dinner. They had to gather some of the food for the harvest. Jack gets caught in a snare set for an animal! Read it--it's okay!

MY BOY LOVES READING IT 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My 1st grader hates to put it down, he would rather read Magic Tree House books, than play video games. He even reads them to his class and explains the story for show and tell. In his kindergarten class the teacher would also let him read the Magic Tree House books out loud, not to give her a break, but to promote reading out loud. Great books!

Editorial Review:

The Magic Tree House whisks Jack and Annie back to the eve of the first Thanksgiving. There they meet the Pilgrims as well as Squanto, a Native American who helped them. The story offers an age-appropriate, in-depth picture of what life was really like for early settlers, as well as the usual Magic Tree House adventure and excitement.

Editorial Review:

"You have the right to remain silent." However...

The fifth-grade girls and the fifth-grade boys at Laketon Elementary don't get along very well. But the real problem is that these kids are loud and disorderly. That's why the principal uses her red plastic bullhorn. A lot.

Then one day Dave Packer, a certified loudmouth, bumps into an idea -- a big one that makes him try to keep quiet for a whole day. But what does Dave hear during lunch? A girl, Lynsey Burgess, jabbering away. So Dave breaks his silence and lobs an insult. And those words spark a contest: Which team can say the fewest words during two whole days? And it's the boys against the girls.

How do the teachers react to the silence? What happens when the principal feels she's losing control? And will Dave and Lynsey plunge the whole school into chaos?

This funny and surprising book is about language and thought, about words unspoken, words spoken in anger, and especially about the power of words spoken in kindness...with or without a bullhorn. It's Andrew Clements at his best -- thought-provoking, true-to-life, and very entertaining.
