"Good night, Gorilla," says the weary watchman as he walks by the gorilla cage on his nightly rounds at the zoo. The gorilla answers by quietly pickpocketing the guard's keys, stealthily trailing him, and unlocking the cages of every animal the oblivious fellow bids goodnight to. Looking much like an exhausted father, the uniformed guard traipses home toward his cottage, while the lonely zoo animals softly parade behind him. The animals manage to slip into his bedroom and nestle unnoticed near his sleepy wife--until the bold little gorilla goes so far as to snuggle up beside her as she turns out the light. Author and illustrator Peggy Rathmann (creator of the Caldecott-winning Officer Buckle and Gloria) relies more on the nuances of her jewel-toned pictures than on words to pace this giggly bedtime story, making it perfect for observant preschoolers. I purchased this boxed set of 4 board books for my 18 mos old and he loves all of these books. "George goes Fishing" is his (and my) favorite out of the bunch, but they are all good.

This book set is great for my 15 month old to carry around. We read a book, put it back and he loves to carry it around, with the other set of Curious George board books we got him. He feels like a big boy when he brings his box of books to us.

This makes the top ten list out of all the great picture books we read to our kids when they were young. I never tired of reading it. So simple, symmetric, even musical. The story? How does the peddler get the monkeys to give back all the caps they've stolen from him and carried up into the tree? Okay, I'm the publisher of One Monkey Books, so call me biased. But try this one on your three or five or year old, and really get into singing, "Caps for sale! Caps for sale! Fifty cents a cap!" obviously great stories and so many of them. however, i think it's more fun for a little person to be able to go through multiple books versus one cmbersome edition. but a great value in hard cover

I honestly can't review the book, because it never arrived! I ordered it for my nephew on Dec. 2nd, and it didn't arrive in time for Christmas. It's now Jan. 2nd, and it still hasn't arrived. Two other items ordered from Amazon haven't arrived either. (One is a My Little Pony Christmas book which I ordered for my niece...)
This experience is not typical of Amazon, and I welcome a customer service rep to contact me to get it straightened out.

My Whole Family Loves This Book 5 out of 5 stars.

This story is delightful. We bought it because we were taking our 2.5 yr old along on a ski trip and wanted him to have a silly little story that related to the mountain and skiing (even though he's not on skis yet). Well, it is just that... and more. He's learned a lot, developed an interest in skiing (maybe next year) and always gets a good laugh out of this book! It's also fun that George seems to invent snowboarding - my husband and I got a big kick out of that and have shared the story with many adult friends (isn't everyone a Curious Geroge fan?)!
IMPORTANT: The structure of the story and the illustrations maintain the integrity of the original series!!

This book was given to us as a gift when our daughter was born. Even as a baby, she loved the rhyme and meter of the verses. It is such a cute book and we have great memories because of it.

This book is wonderful for little-little children learning to speak, and also for children learning to read.

It's a basic early reader, stringing together rhyming phrases with cute illustrations. And it works. Definitely pick this one up.

This is one of my sons favorite books and the board last a long time and allow the little guys to help turn pages. The book doesn't not have a lot of words so it is a great bedtime story as well.

Good book. It's one of the older George stories and drawings, not one of the newer George stories and drawings.

When the now iconic Man in the Big Yellow Hat warns Curious George,"now don't wander off and get into trouble," we know exactly what's about to happen instead (especially since he had already rushed off). Despite his good intentions, George adventures turn into misadventures: Dousing someone's campfire, getting lost with a galloping deer, and being sprayed by a skunk that George thought was a cat. As usual in these series (story by Margret Rey, with illustrations by a team in the style of the late H.A. Rey), George's curiosity also leads to some monkey heroics. He also learns how to get rid of skunk smell (a vat of tomato juice).

Given its forest setting, this is a somewhat quieter `George book,' but there are soft forest and animal drawings and enough action for the small ones. Curious George is now "a registered trademark of the Houghton Mifflin," but the company encourages young readers to look for the `original adventures about Curious George' by the Reys. 24 pages, with pencil and watercolor illustrations on each one.

Life's a Beach ...George!! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book and Curious George himself takes me back to a gentler time. A time when I was young and a time when my son was young. He and I LOVE to read all about George's silly mishaps daily.

This book was an automatic favorite because we live in Rhode Island and live at the beach in the summer. So he would always take this book and his george doll down in his bag. These stories are filled with laughter and love, two things a child can't get enough of and there is usually even a good manners lesson taught to George too that they don't soon forget.

So, any of the Curious George series is a winner with our family...and we don't even live near the "man with the yellow hat". lol*

Have fun and make each night a night you read to your child...it's so important. I even read to him in the womb each night. He talked early and certainly knew my voice almost immediately.

A winner any way you look at it. : ) Thank you George.
