Best one by far 5 out of 5 stars.

I was a little disappointed with Bonjour Butterfly so I was hesitant to buy this one however upon reading it, I was quickly relieved!! It is adorable and has a good message too.

Love the Fancy Nancy series! 5 out of 5 stars.

Fancy Nancy is delightful & this book does not disappoint. One very clever note I wanted to point out to all of you parents reading this book to your daughters...Nancy's dad says the dog is a LaSalle Spaniel - if you turn back a couple of pages you'll see that the animal shelter is the "LaSalle Street Animal Shelter" - TOO cute (I missed it the first few reads ;-))

Editorial Review:

Fancy Nancy is back! And when her family decides to get a dog, she's certain she can be fancier than ever. After all, a papillona small, delicate, fluffy dogis the ultimate accessory. But her family wants a large, plain dog. How unglamorous! With Fancy Nancy's trademark humor and warmth, Nancy discovers that real fanciness does not depend simply on appearance but more on a genuine joie de vivre, which is a fancy phrase for having lots of fun.

Hilarious Christmas Story 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Reviewed by Cayden (age 4) and Max (age 2) Aures and Mom for Reader Views (6/08)

"A Very Marley Christmas" is the fun holiday story of Marley the dog's first Christmas. Marley is a very mischievous dog and decorating for Christmas with him around can be very interesting! He gets into everything from the Christmas lights that the mom is hanging, to the paper snowflakes that Cassie cut, to the paint that baby Louie is using to paint a snowman, and makes a huge mess!

Cayden: "Look at the cover! I think that dog was naughty! He has wrapping paper in his mouth. I hope he didn't open all of the presents!"
Max: "No!"

Cayden: "He knocked over all of the ornaments that you are supposed to hang on the Christmas tree! Some are broken!"
Max: "Oh no!"

Cayden: "He knocked the tree over!"

Cayden: "Why does he keep knocking things over and breaking things?"
Max: "Break!"

Cayden: "I like this book! It is real funny! Can we read it again?"
Cayden: "Marley is a funny dog! He does lots of naughty things!"
Max: "Naughty dog!"

Parent's comments:

"A Very Marley Christmas" was definitely a hit with both of my children! They really enjoyed the adventures of Marley and all of the trouble that he got into. The story is very amusing and Marley's antics had my children laughing on almost every page. The illustrations in the book do an excellent job at conveying the humorous situations. We definitely recommend this book for the holiday season and we look forward to reading more Marley books in the future!

Editorial Review:

With all the excitement of Christmas approaching, it's no surprise that Marley, the lovable pup with a nose for trouble, wants to get in on the action. Anticipating his very first snowfall and Santa's arrival, Marley jumps in to help his family every way he can. But Marley, being Marley, always ends up on the wrong side of right. It's not long before he tears down the twinkle lights, attacks a chain of paper snowflakes, and mistakes the Christmas tree for . . . well . . . his very own indoor bathroom. Will Marley's good intentions ruin everything before Christmas begins? Or will he manage to share some Christmas magic with his family after all?

This follow-up to the #1 bestselling Bad Dog, Marley! delivers a heartfelt holiday story with many hilarious Marley mishaps along the way.

This was our first Mo Willems book and my great grandchildren loved it!
Funny, well drawn, and contains a great lesson, too. We'll be adding to our Mo Willems library.

Not as interactive as other pigeon stories 4 out of 5 stars.

Our family loves all the pigeon stories. The Puppy version is very cute and kids can relate to the pigeon's plea. However this story has not been as much fun to read as the other pigeon stories because it is less interactive. In Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, kids get to enthusiastically tell the pigeon "no!" on almost every page which is most of the fun. This story does not give kids as much of an opportunity to play disciplinarian--a big and unusual role for a preschooler.

A Pigeon to identify with! 5 out of 5 stars.

The latest in the Mo Willems library of children's picture books has our favorite Pigeon begging for a puppy!

The great and bad thing about Mo Willems' books is that the pigeon exhibits some of our children's worst habits in how he pleads, begs, whines and demands that his needs are met. There was a time I stopped reading my daughter Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog!, The and Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late! because I felt that pigeon was helping to contribute to these bad habits. I decided, instead, that these books are great tools to show a child what NOT to do (by emphasizing that when discussing aspects of the book with your child) and to show a child how silly these behaviors look. Aside from that, these books are just plain fun!

Any child can identify with Pigeon's childish behaviors and crazy antics. I also would recommend that if you like the pigeon books, you pick up the Trixie books Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale (Bccb Blue Ribbon Picture Book Awards (Awards)) & Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of Mistaken Identity. Great, fun books to read.

Editorial Review:

He really, really, REALLY wants one. He'll take really good care of it! What's the matter--don't you want him to be happy?
The latest book in the best-selling Pigeon series is the funniest one yet.

Editorial Review:

We hold this truth to be self-evident: farting makes kids laugh. Walter, an apologetic-looking dog adopted from the pound, passes gas morning, noon, and night, no matter what he eats, whether it's a 25-pound bag of low-fart dog biscuits, cat food, or fried chicken. On the bright side, "If Uncle Irv let one slip, he just went and stood near Walter." When Father reaches the limit of his patience with Walter's flatulence, he decides the pooch is once again pound-bound, despite Betty and Billy's pleading. Poor Walter knows his days are numbered and "He resolved to hold in his farts forever." That very night, two burglars break into Walter's family's house, and (you can see where this is going) Walter gasses the burglars with a "hideous cloud" that forces them to drop their loot and run into the clutches of the police officers, "choking and gasping for air." The next morning Father and Mother discover Walter has saved the day--or at least their silverware and VCR. "And so the family learned to live with Walter, the hero dog. And that is the end of our tail." (Or is it? Fans will be pleased to discover the next book Walter the Farting Dog: Trouble at the Yard Sale.) Audrey Colman's highly stylized illustrations, imbued with a surreal, Monty Pythonesque collage look, are as absurdly comical as this silly story that is purely powered by natural gas. A Lovely Book 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is easily a favorite in our house. we first started reading this to our daughter when she was 9 months old. Since then, she has grown to love it more everyday. She's now 18 months old, and never tires of it. She generally likes all the Boynton books, but this one, she loves.

Here's the gist of the story: a mommy dog is baking cookies with her puppy, and tells him/her a story about how much she loves him. The illustrations are classic Boynton: cute and fun. The rhymes are great. This one isn't as silly as some of her other books, but the sweetness of it makes up for it.

I highly suggest getting the CD that contains the song of "Snuggle Puppy." (I think it's on Philadelphia Chickens...) Once you've learned how the tune goes, you'll love the book even more. And what's even better, is that once you learn the song, you can sing it anywhere. This does wonders for my daughter when she is being uncooperative or grumpy. Whenever I sing her the song, she always smiles, and usually becomes more agreeable.

Editorial Review:

A great big hug in book form, Snuggle Puppy is a year-round valentine from parent to child. It is bright, chunky, a pleasure to hold, and has a die-cut cover that reveals a glimpse of the joy inside before it's even opened. Best of all, it's packed, of course, with pure Boynton: her inimitable language, her inimitable illustrations, her inimitable sense of fun.

OOO, Snuggle Puppy of mine! Everything about you is especially fine. I love what you are. I love what you do. Fuzzy little Snuggle Puppy, I love you. Featuring a sweet and cuddly doggie cast and rhyming verse, Snuggle Puppy is the perfect bedtime book to read last, because of an ending that kids will want again and again: I started with OOO. . . . Now we'll end like this: [BIG SMOOCH!]

An Ozark Requiem - Where the Red Fern Grows 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Being an avid reader my whole life, I don't know how I skipped over this book as a kid. Recently I decided to brush up on some classic literature, and I grabbed this off my bookshelf...wow. This has to be one of the most AMAZING American tales of all time...and it's definitely in my top five books ever.

Warning: it has a little flavor of Bridge to Terebithia in it because of it's terribly bittersweet ending...but it is well worth it.

The writing style is so easy to read and so engrossing, it's like the author is actually sitting across from you telling you the story.

This is a slice of Americana that all kids should read...it captures the Ozarks and the heart of a little boy who loves his dogs so well! The fact that the main character had to work so hard for what he wanted is such a wonderful message to kids today.

Where the Red Fern Grows is a little piece of the American dream, and it is a must read for everyone. No questions asked.

Editorial Review:

Author Wilson Rawls spent his boyhood much like the character of this book, Billy Colman, roaming the Ozarks of northeastern Oklahoma with his bluetick hound. A straightforward, shoot-from-the-hip storyteller with a searingly honest voice, Rawls is well-loved for this powerful 1961 classic and the award-winning novel Summer of the Monkeys. In Where the Red Fern Grows, Billy and his precious coonhound pups romp relentlessly through the Ozarks, trying to "tree" the elusive raccoon. In time, the inseparable trio wins the coveted gold cup in the annual coon-hunt contest, captures the wily ghost coon, and bravely fights with a mountain lion. When the victory over the mountain lion turns to tragedy, Billy grieves, but learns the beautiful old Native American legend of the sacred red fern that grows over the graves of his dogs. This unforgettable classic belongs on every child's bookshelf. (Ages 9 and up)

Well done! 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

That's Not My Puppy: Its Coat Is Too Hairy is short and sweet on length, but wonderfully entertaining with textures. This is a great, sturdy board book that very little readers will enjoy multiple times.

And, when you've explored all you want about the dogs, you can always discuss that cute little mouse who seems to appear on every single page!

Cute, educational, and very, very entertaining. This is a must for your toddler's library.

A Touching Book 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is another winner in this board book series, written by the "touchy-feely" team of Watt, Fiona, and Usborne. It's essentially a monologue by an unseen narrator (perhaps a young toddler like the book's audience),who notes why various breeds of dogs are NOT his or her own.

The illustarions are bright primary colors, against similar but contrasting backgrounds. Embedded within the triple-thick board book pages is some texture-rich material described in the book. These attributes enable the narrator to label and categorize the various dogs, and to deduce that the pictured dog is NOT "my puppy."

Ultimately, after you and your young charge touch the materials, enjoy the bright volotd and varying breeds, and delight in the repetitive; "that's not my puppy," refrain, the tenacious reader/listener will celebrate the ultimate discovery of the beloved dog. A nice little vocabulary buikder and an all-around suinpke but fun boatd book that imaginative adults can enahnce with a nicely dramatic reading.

Editorial Review:

The imaginative use of textures in this inviting new board book adds a delightful dimension to sharing books with babies and toddlers. Bright illustrations are combined with simple text to develop sensory and language awareness. Very young children will love turning the pages to meet a number of different fun-to-touch puppies. 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches

My first exposure to John Grogan and Marley 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

When one of my students insisted I read this book to the class, I admittedly did so with a grain of salt. I mean, how many naughty doggy stories can anyone possibly write? I had never heard of John Grogan and was not at all sure of what to expect. What I read has to be one of the most charming, heartfelt, and hilarious stories ever written to children about a dog. In simplified, child-friendly prose, Grogan tells the story-book version of how he and his family acquired a very bad puppy named Marley. Marley is full of trouble and horendously destructive. But, as we are told, he tried so hard to be good! It has all the right drama (while I'm not sure what is true and what is story) and Grogan has an incredible gift for writing that splashes personality and humor directly into the story. I have fallen in love with a naughty puppy named Marley.

Editorial Review:

Mommy, Daddy, Cassie, and Baby Louie welcome Marley, their new Labrador pup, into their family. But Marley doesn't stay a tiny puppy for long. He grows and grows, and the bigger Marley gets, the bigger trouble he gets into. Big, bad-boy trouble. Whether it's chewing Mommy's reading glasses or swallowing Daddy's paycheck, Marley is a dog like no other. He tries to be a good dog, honest he does, but everything he tries ends up bad. Then one day Marley goes too far. Will this family have to find a new home for their big, crazy, pure-hearted dog?

Inspired by John Grogan's bestselling memoir, Marley & Me, this heartwarming story shows that loving someone, flaws and all, can reap huge rewards.

Kids' Version of Marley and Me 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

While my 11 year old daughter would have been able to read the original book Marley and Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog, some parts were not age appropriate for her. Luckily this version was written for kids to read on their own and retains all the humor of the original. It is a fun read for any kid who loves dogs and loves to laugh! This book is guaranteed to leave you laughing out loud, and reading passages to everyone nearby.

Editorial Review:

Make way for Marley!

When the Grogan family is ready for a dog, they choose Marley, a yellow furball of a puppy who quickly grows into a large, rowdy Labrador retriever. Marley has a zest for life, and as he grows, so does his enthusiasm. He has an appetite for whatever he can get his paws on—from fine jewelry to underwear—and the one thing he always finds is trouble. Marley even gets kicked out of obedience school! Can this rambunctious pup ever learn how to be a good boy?

Editorial Review:

Life lessons? Romance? Literary instruction? Go, Dog. Go! offers all this and more, wrapped up in one simply worded, warmly hued package. Using single-syllable words in rhythmic repetition, and introducing colors and prepositions, this Seuss-styled classic has been an early favorite of children since 1961. For those looking for deeper meaning in a beginning reader book, here you'll find nothing less than a microcosm of life. Green dogs, yellow dogs, big dogs, little dogs. Dogs who prefer cars, dogs who favor skis. All represent the diversity a child will find in the world. And the slow-to-bud romance between the cheerfully oblivious yellow dog and the mincing pink poodle explains more succinctly than most self-help books what goes on in many grown-up relationships. Nonetheless, Eastman takes the concept of "primary" to heart, with his simple silly phrases and solidly colored illustrations. Not only will this book inspire peals of laughter in kids, it will also help them make the magical connection between those mysterious black squiggles on the page, and the words they hear and speak.
