Editorial Review:

No melting allowed! Jaclyn used to live with her aunt Greta in Chicago. But not anymore. They've moved to a place called Sherpia. It's a tiny village on the edge of the Arctic Circle. Jaclyn can't believe she's stuck out in Nowheresville. No movie theaters. No malls. No nothing. Plus, there's something really odd about the village. At night there are strange howling noises. And in front of every house there's a snowman. A creepy snowman with a red scarf. A deep scar on his face. And a really evil smile. . . .

The Haunted School will give you-- goosebumps! 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 10 people found this review helpful.

"The Haunted School" is the first Goosebumps I ever read, even though I have gathered quite a collection of books in the Goosebumps series for the library. I am the librarian in a small elementary/middle school. The Goosebumps books are the most checked out books in our collection. Now that I have read one, I know why!

Children as young as Kindergarten and as old as middle school read Goosebumps. What appeals to both age groups? Key words: An exciting story hooks them and keeps them all the way to the end. That the story is framed with good writing is another key component. I was most pleasantly surprised with the writing quality. It's not great literature, but it is strong writing. In fact, the series is an excellent way for early readers to transcend the chapter books into regular novel reading.

The story is really a bit frightening for Kindergarten and first grade. I am amazed parents let them read these books because the story is really chilling (even for a veteran thriller reader). I'll not forget this particular story line for a long time. Even though I am giving away a bit of the story, basically here is the scary part. Two middle school children disappear from a dance into an alternate reality called the Grayworld, where everything is gray. It's what happens here that is so creepy. How the two try to get back into their world brings more goosebumps and I'm not revealing that!

Mystery solved! Now I know why children love this series! It is delicious, scary fun!

But it's hard making friends. And his new school is so big, it's easy to get lost. Which is exactly what happens.Tommy gets lost -- lost in a maze of empty classrooms. And that's when he hears the voices. Kids' voices crying for help. Voices coming from behind the classroom walls. . . .

Pretty decent entertainment 5 out of 5 stars.

I remember collecting Goosebumps when the first wave came out a decade ago. Ghost Beach was written around the time the series was taking off in popularity, but before it got saturated in merchandise and took a dip in quality. There's nothing goofy about Ghost Beach, it's a straight-forward ghost story with some decent twists here and there. It's also one of the scarier books in the series, along the lines of "Welcome to Dead House." Good for some safe scares.

I used to get scolded for reading too much Goosebumps and not enough "real" literature, but it's hard enough to get kids to read these days. Recommended for any paperback collection.

Goosebumps GHOST BEACH 5 out of 5 stars.

Goosebumps fan's favorite 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is the favorite Goosebumps story of a 10-year old relative so I wanted to get her her own copy. She rates it highly.
A story of a young girl's experience at summer camp. Her peer problems seemed bad enough for her to think of faking her own death, but then her plan backfires and she almost drowns. Then she starts seeing things that cause her to act strange and increases her peer problems.
It is not my own interest and I feel kids today have enough strangeness in their lives without these scary things to wonder about, but perhaps they appreciate the safeness of their own world after reading about a more scary one.

Editorial Review:

Camp is supposed to be fun, but Sarah hates Camp Cold Lake. The lake is gross and slimy. And she's having a little trouble with her bunkmates. They hate her.So Sarah comes up with a plan. She'll pretend to drown -- then everyone will feel sorry for her.But things don't go exactly the way Sarah planned. Because down by the cold, dark lake someone is watching her. Stalking her. Someone with pale blue eyes. And a see-through body. . . .

Disappointing 2 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

After almost a decade, R.L. Stine brings Goosebumps back! And what better way to inaugurate the new series than with new adventures of Slappy the Dummy, the series' most popular character? Sadly, R.L. Stine drops the ball with the series debut, creating a disappointing rehash of the previous Slappy books.

The first Night of the Living Dummy was a brilliant book which set the standard for future Goosebumps book - well-written, suspenseful and occasionally even frightening. Parts II and III were pretty good follow-ups, and Bride of the Living Dummy was almost as good as the original, and easily the best of the Series 2000 books. Slappy's Nightmare was a bit too tongue-in-cheek but did put an interesting spin on the plot thread.

But Revenge of the Living Dummy slavishly adheres to the Dummy formula. The dummy shows up, nasty things happen, kid is unfairly blamed, it turns out to be a prank, THEN the dummy REALLY comes to life, and so on. There are a few twists - the main character isn't the one blamed for the dummy's activity, and the finale - but nothing really worth mentioning. It's a really disappointing, formulaic, by-the-numbers Goosebumps book. We can only hope that the future installments will improve on it, especially as the recurring plot and characters are introduced.

Something's Waiting In the Dark... 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Stay Out of the Basement is the second book in the Goosebump's series. It is also one of my favorites. Stay Out of the Basement is about the Brewer family. Dr. Brewer is a botanist who gets fired from his job because some of his expeirements went wrong. When Dr. Brewer starts working in the basement at home the family never see him. Casey and Margaret are Dr. Brewer's kids. When their mom has to go take care of her sister in Tucson, strange things start happening with their father. Then they start hearing strange sounds from the basement. Casey and Margaret go down to investigate. They could never have imagined what they found down there...

Editorial Review:

Dr. Brewer is doing a little plant-testing in his basement. Nothing to worry about. Harmless, he says. But Margaret and Casey Brewer are worried about their father. Especially when they...meet...some of the plants he is growing down there. Then they notice that their father is developing plant like tendencies. In fact, he is becoming distinctly weedy-and seedy. Is it just part of Dr. Brewer's 'harmless' experiment? Or does Dad have more than just a green thumb...?

Goosebumps in General 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

My son who is developmentally delayed and 10 yrs old, hates reading but loves the Goosebumps books. He's picky about the ones he reads cause some of them do scare him. He reviews them at the library at school and them comes home with the ones he wants to read. My 25 yr old when he was younger, loved them too. As a mom of 9 kids, and an avid reader, they wouldn't be my choice but I would prefer they read these over nothing.

Best Book Ever!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Not everyone deals with a Worm at breakfast time, but athlete and inventor Matt Daniels gets a visit from one every morning. Worm is actually the neighbor kid, Bradley Wormser, known far and wide as "Worm" for good reason. He's so tall and skinny that he looks just like an enormous worm with glasses. He's also a mooch, who eats up everything left on the breakfast table.

Bradley will go to any lengths to get food, including dropping a dead fly into someone else's cereal ...and then eating the cereal (he spits the fly out!) Pretty disturbing, to say the least. Just to complicate matters, Bradley and Matt's moms are partners in a party catering business. So it's not like Matt can ever get rid of him.

One morning, Bradley is being particularly annoying. He pulls a can out of his backpack, daring Matt to open it. The can is empty, but it emits a stench like you wouldn't believe. It's so bad that it nauseates both Matt and his sister, Livvy. But later, Bradley shows Matt something intriguing. It's supposedly a rock from Venus that he bought off the Internet, hoping to win the big prize for the most original science project.

Matt knows it can't be a Venusian rock, especially since it, uh, is actually labeled "Made in China." Bradley chucks the rock, which hits their science teacher's car --- and then he blames Matt. It can't get any worse, right? Oh, yes, it does. Bradley cheats off Matt but makes it look like they're both cheating. Of course, they get caught.

But that's just the beginning of Matt's problems, because when Bradley uses Matt's laptop, he leaves a page open called MONSTER BLOOD. Matt can't close the page, and a creepy voice whispers over and over, "Enjoy your Monster Blood..." Matt panics, yanking the cord and then the battery from the laptop. But nothing closes the page or stops the voice.

Matt's life continues to nose-dive, with science project setbacks, strange men demanding he return "it" and a silly putty type of plastic egg that turns out to be anything but "silly." Author R. L. Stine pitches us some cool plot curveballs in this enjoyably creepy thriller, ending with the next chapter in the continuing HorrorLand theme park saga, in which Matt is thrilled with his surprise invite to the park, where he meets Billy and Sheena Deep.

Two girls have disappeared, and Sheena becomes invisible. And no matter how many times Matt tries to reassure himself that the horror theme park staff is just playing tricks on customers, he can't help being terrified. Billy is scared to death, too. But when they attempt to get help from two park MPs ("Monster Police"), the cops seem to believe that Matt and Billy are trying to play games with them. Soon, the two boys find themselves in the worst predicament of all. Will they live long enough to find the vanished girls? Will they be able to help Sheena?

This installment ends with an irresistible cliffhanger, leaving readers with the urgent question "When can I get my hands on Book #4?"

--- Reviewed by Terry Miller Shannon

Editorial Review:

For an athlete like Matt Daniels, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It's also the most dangerous. That's because somebody is about to pull a mean prank. The recipe is simple: Just add gooey, green Monster Blood.

As if Matt's problems weren't big and slimy enough, an invitation to HorrorLand is also on its way. Can Matt survive inside a terrifying scream park where trouble lurks behind every turnstile? Can YOU?

Brandon "Hyena" Wunderlich 2 out of 5 stars.

Imagine if you woke up one day and you were not you? No better yet, imagine if you were still you, but you and your entire reality was changed. How would you deal with it? Well, Matt Amsterdam dealt with it by freaking out.
With another Goosebumps book under his belt, R.L. Stine tells the fictional and strange story of Matthew Amsterdam in Don't Go To Sleep.
Matt is a 12-year-old boy who is considered to be a geek because of his love of Star Wars and things that come from outer space. He has a 15-year-old sister named Pamela and a brother named Greg, who is 16 years old, and all three of then live with their mother. Matt is angry most of the time because his brother and sister make fun of him nonstop. Matt's room is the smallest room in the house.
One night Matt got fed up with his tiny room so he slept in the guest room, which his grandparents slept in only once a year. When he woke up the next morning, he was physically 16 years old. He knew that he was still himself, but his entire outside life had changed. Evidently, he fell into a reality warp when he slept in the guest room. Every time that he fell asleep and woke up, he transferred into another reality. He became a 16 year old, a different 12 year old, an 8 year old circus lion tamer, an old man, a "Swamp Thing" like creature, a squirrel and a chubbier 12 year old. His changes helped him and hurted him. When he was the creature, he went on a rampage and destroyed everything in town. During this all, these three kids, Lindy, Bruce and Wayne were trying to capture Matt.
I would not recommend this book to anyone because I think it is corny. If you like reading a book that is weird, then you would enjoy it, otherwise you should not read it.

Editorial Review:

It's a no-snooze situation!Matt hates his tiny bedroom. It's so small it's practically a closet! Still, Matt's mom refuses to let him sleep in the guest room. After all, they might have guests. Some day. Or year. Then Matt does it. Late one night. When everyone's in bed. He sneaks into the guest room and falls asleep.Poor Matt. He should have listened to his mom. Because when Matt wakes up, his whole life has changed. For the worse. And every time he falls asleep, he wakes up in a new nightmare. . . .

One of a kind from R.L.Stine's gooesbumps series 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is certainly one of a kind.

Another great book by R.L.Stine, and this is one of my favorite books. Whether you like science fiction or not, you will still like this book if you're goosebumps/R.L.Stine fan.

Sammy Jacob is into ghosts and science fiction. Not exactly the smartest hobby- at least not if you ask Sammy's parents. They're research scientists and they only believe in REAL science.
But now Sammy's met someone who's totally unreal. He's hanging out in Sammy's room. And eating his cereal at breakfast. Sammy's got to find a way to get rid of his new "friend" Only problem is... Sammy's new friend is invisible! (From the back of the book)

The reason why I like this book so much has to be the ending. I mean, the storyline is great. But the ending is very twisted, funny, and for me, cool. I often wonder how R.L.Stine gets his ideas.

To people who don't like Goosebumps because its not scary. What do you expect? It's for 7 - 12 year old kids, meaning not very frightening but a mysterious ending. Goosebumps is a mystery book in a sort way, because every time you read goosebumps series, you wonder how the storyline is going to be connected to the ending. I started to read goosebumps at the age of 8, and never once did I thought goosebumps was scary. (I read almost every book of the Original Goosebumps Series). But I still love goosebumps, and R.L.Stine is the authour that made me wanting to be an authour. So the bottom line is, don't read goosebumps if you want chill on your back. If you want a chill, I'd say watch the movie "The Grudge". LOL!

Anyways, this book gets 5 star for great storyline, ok characterism, and some-what cool ending. =)
