It s a encyclopedic book that reviews all the known pathologies in hematology. It s basic for hematopathologists. You need it!!

I find this book with its encyclopedic bend extremely useful on those more difficult or rare cases. This is NOT a replacement for Foucar/Farhi/WHO type books or an atlas. There are very few useful images.....what you get is a much more in depth review of IHC/flow data that can't be found in any other book. There are also great tables.

A must buy for pathologists interested in hempath... since books in this topics are so scanty. Other well written books (e.g. Contemporary issue series) were outdated.
Chapters varies. Some are detail and well written (e.g. follicular lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, immunohistochemical analysis of lymphoid tissue) while other are disappointing (peripheral T-cell lymphoma, application of molecular genetics (chap 9)).
Some contents overlap between chapters.
Pictures are suboptimal, can't imagine still using black & white image nowaday.
Suggest split into 2 volumes: lymphomas and leukemias

The methods I utilized to live(9)years with leukemia and also to survive a bone marrow transplant when my predicted odds of survival were 15 -20%, included the use of my mind and meditation, a support network of love from my family and friends, physical exercise, and a strong spiritual strength.

This is a book for anyone facing a life-threatening situation. Yes, the reader feels the author's pain, senses his suffering, and feels his fear; however, this simply makes the victorious outcome even more joyful. It is really the story of an entire family and how they handled a very difficult situation. It is about love and strength and the determination of a man to beats the odds and "get well." Although the author uses his mind and meditations,. . . as a Christian, I clearly understood that he considered these as gifts from the Creator and not in and of himself. Buy this book for yourself and also a copy for a friend. You don't have to have a life-threatening illness to draw from its inspiring passages. It is a book that I have read over and over . . . and it will be a permanent part of my library. No, it isn't about a sure cure for cancer but it is about a journey in life that leads to wholeness. I thank God for healing this man and using him as an example of courage and strength. I am sure the author's life must now reflect that of His healer.

This is THE book to have on bone pathology. I have worked with Dr. Dorfman as a resident, and he is a true expert in this field in every sense of the word.

This book, the result of close collaboration between two very specialized centers, one in spinal surgery, the other in oncology, was written to take stock of the current data on vertebral metastases. It is intended as both a pratical guide for all those involved in this field of care and a didactic reference for those who are less familiar with either of these specialties. All aspects of current knowledge of metastases are considered. Regarding diagnostics, MRI is at present indispensable and nessecitates a broad iconography. In the therapeutics section, so as to restituate vertebral metastasis in its proper general context, a chapter is devoted to the particularities of the treatment in terms of the primary cancer. This is fundamental since the sensitivity of tumors to systemic treatment is clearly not the same from one case to another. The role of surgery in vertebral metastases has changed completely over the last ten years with the increasing use osteosynthesis combined with decompressive procedures. The explanation of these techniques and their indications is largely based upon providing a suitable response to the mechanical problems posed at each location in the spinal column. Vertebroplasty and biphosphonates, two recent additions to the therapeutic armamentarium are detailed, along with conventional treatments such as radiation therapy and the comprehensive approach to pain management. In the present context of technological advances against vertebral metastases, physicians must not lose sight of the patient as an individual. This imperative prompted us to include a chapter on nursing and psychological cared. Another chapter addresses the continuity of care, placing responsability for the patient's management at present solely in the hands of a multidisciplinary team. A methodological review of the literature concludes that there still remains much work to be done for better assessment of the responsability for the welfare of these patients. Two leading US spinal surgeons have accepted to endorse this manuscript: J.P. Farcy and N. Sundaresan. The question of their contributing to the book was naturally raised. However, it seemed preferable to preserve the homogenous spirit driving the original group of collaborators.
