A companion to "The Best Life Diet," this handy, spiral bound book makes reaching your goals even easier.

The journal starts out with you writing down your vitals stats such as your weight, blood glucose, cholesterol, and so on. There are before and after sections on the same page so you can see if you ultimately reach your goals.

The book moves on to cover the goals of the three phases (readers of the book will already be familiar with these) and then divides into three parts- a section of similar pages for phase one, a section of similar pages for phase two, and a section of similar pages for phase three.

The phase one pages have you enter the date at the top of the page and then rate your activity level. Then follows 6 questions you answer at the end of each day, such as "did you eat at least three meals and at least one snack including a nutritional breakfast?" Other questions are about things such as your water and vitamin intake.

The page then ends with a place for you to enter aerobic exercise data and also includes a strengthening "grid" for you to document your reps, sets, etc. Phase 2 and 3 pages are the same, except that they have hunger scales included at the bottom of each page.

A must-have companion for those who are trying "The Best Life Diet," I found that its best strength is that it keeps you focused on reaching the right goals. Also recommend The Sixty-Second Motivator if you need additional motivation to reach your fitness goals. Good Luck!

Fitness is a lifetime commitment, but you can accelerate results and transform your body in 12 weeks, says Bob Greene, best known as Oprah Winfrey's personal trainer. Not for the "move a little" crowd, this program is intense and challenging, whatever your starting level. "It's a bit like boot camp," Greene acknowledges. You'll do vigorous aerobic exercise 15 (beginning level), 30 (intermediates), or 45 (advanced) minutes 6 days a week, and increase 2 minutes each week--and double your usual minutes for one workout a week. You'll also strength train with dumbbells or machines and do functional training (strengthening stabilizing muscles).

The eating plan is not a diet--rather Greene describes 5 eating rules to help you eat fewer and burn more calories: curb emotional eating, eat breakfast, establish an eating cut-off time, drink lots of water, and limit alcohol. You'll get enough calories to sustain your intense exercise routine, but cut out the calories otherwise stored as fat.

Using this book is like having a personal coach working with you on emotional and behavioral changes as well as diet and exercise. Greene realizes that if you've had trouble losing weight, you need to understand your attitudes and obstacles before any diet or exercise program will work. So phase one of the program is a self-examination regarding changing your life, including written exercises to help you understand your emotions. Phase two adds aerobic exercise, without changing your diet, to rev up your metabolism. Phase three focuses on the emotional connection to eating habits, including identifying emotional eating triggers and working to overcome them. Phase four adds strength training and dietary changes.

Get with the Program is conveniently spiral-bound, so it's easy to fill in the written exercises and view instructions and photos of the physical exercises. Bob, I love your programs and your energy. I think just about everything you do is awesome! This book however isn't much more than a lab journal. It has us write down food/exercise like we are a science experiement. It is a lot like a lined paper notebook.

I got a lot more out of LifeChanger. Your exercise program, coupled with this self discovery tool enabled me to lose 185 pounds! I recommend every buys ALL of Bob Greene's other books, but pass on this one and get yourself LifeChanger instead! I found mine on eDiets.com's store.

When I first bought the journal in 1996, when the program first came out, I put it on a shelf and let it collect dust for six months than I started Oprah's program. What made me stay on the excerise/eating right program was this journal I had to put everything I ate, felt, did down on paper. Sometimes that is the hardest part. The important thing I found out is that when you put your feelings down on paper, you can detect a pattern to why you are not succeding in losing weight. Because of Oprah's journal, I was able to see what I was doing wrong and correct it. I now years later review my first journal to keep giving me inspiration to continue on the right track. This journal simplify's the process outlined in Oprah's book by making it easy to check off how much water you drank and check off the fruits you ate, it enables you to see how much more you have to consume for the day to stay on the plan, there is also lots of room to discuss how much excerise you did, and how you felt about it. This journal helped me stay on Oprah's plan to lose weight, it is well worth the purchase.

Bob Greene is best known as Oprah Winfrey's personal trainer and coauthor of their bestselling Make the Connection, which is about taking your first steps to fitness and weight loss. Now he's back with the next phase: elevating your fitness program, staying motivated, and creating permanent change. "You create yourself through choice," says Greene, and the way to overcome old habits or laziness is to make every choice conscious, whether you're opening the refrigerator door or deciding whether to skip your workout because it's raining. Keep the Connection is, as you'd expect, full of exercises--but many of the exercises are mental. Greene holds that you can't change until you understand yourself, so he offers several mental exercises to help you become more self-aware. After you've had your mental workout, Greene describes the four components of fitness: flexibility (with photos of stretches), cardiovascular power and endurance, abdominal and back fitness (with photos of a variety of crunches), and muscular strength and endurance (illustrated using Cybex machines). Greene also outlines a sensible nutrition plan based on the food pyramid, and gives 18 recipes.
