pros and cons 3 out of 5 stars.
14 of 17 people found this review helpful.

The book is written simply and effectively in helping you understand how to do the exercise and the illustrations are good but I was surprised when I got it to see how many required equipment (like little hand paddles). I was hoping for just straight exercises with little to no pool aids needed. Otherwise it was good.

Editorial Review:

Water exercise is excellent for physical therapy and fitness because it enhances range of motion and eases pain of movement. This book makes it easy for you to design your own water exercise program, whether for injury rehabilitation, special conditions, cross-training, or just shaping up.

Water Exercise features 78 clearly described and illustrated exercises that range from beginning to advanced levels of difficulty. The book also provides complete exercise programs for specific injuries and conditions as well as for improved fitness. You can tailor each program to suit your own needs so, no matter what exercise program you choose, you’ll start at the appropriate level and progress safely into more challenging movements.

Cherie is one of the most experienced and winning triathletes in the sport today, and holds several world records (www.cheriegruenfeld.com). She obviously knows what it takes, and she conveys that information eloquently in her new book. Her years of training, coaching, and racing world-wide have given her a wealth of experience and knowledge that is invaluable to anyone contemplating becoming an amature or professional triathlete, spectator or support crew member.

BECOME AN IRONMAN 5 out of 5 stars.

Wonderful insight from a gracious, older and experienced female Ironman athlete!
I found Cherie's book to be inspirational and full of useful advice... great information or just tidbits that reinforce what I already know about training for this tough event. For NEW or SEASONED triathletes, it is a nice reminder of how to go about IM training, especially when one gets a little off track!
As a seasoned, female IM athlete myself, I am often looked to for coaching advice, and this book is one that I highly recommend! An easy
read, and a book that you can pick up again and again, reading just a paragraph or two (like when you can barely keep your eyes open after a long hard day of training), and always be inspired to keep going when it gets tough! Thank you, Cherie!

Editorial Review:

Become an Ironman is a treasure trove of deeply insightful training and racing wisdom. Its purpose is to provide the reader with a rich collection of insider tips, techniques and expertise. Written in a straightforward, easily readable style, Become an Ironman is designed to deliver the most information in the fewest words possible. This guide is targeted at both shorter distance athletes and those who have already participated in an Ironman and want to improve their performance.

Great swimming companion 4 out of 5 stars.

I am preparing for my first open water training. Have been out of the water for years till I decided to get back into it 3 months ago. Lately however, I have been finding it hard to motivate myself and to make my workout interesting. While this book is not really a motivational tool, it has provided the variety that I'v been looking for. It like the waterproof material and how it is written. Hopefully, it keeps me interested till the competition, which is 2 months away.

Editorial Review:

Written by two former coaches for the U.S. National Swim Team, Workouts in a Binder for Swimmers, Triathletes, and Coaches extends beyond freestyle to include other strokes for masters and collegiate swimmers and coaches, as well as triathletes seeking skill-building in the off-season. The workout categories, which are more diverse than Swim Workouts for Triathletes (the previous book in this series), include distance, middle distance, sprint, individual medley, and stroke. Competitive swimmers and coaches can build a training plan using a variety of workouts from each category to improve speed and skills. Recreational swimmers, on the other hand, can realize new fitness levels by introducing greater variety to their swimming routines. Printed on large, durable cards, this new entry in the popular Workouts in a Binder series was specially designed for swimmers to use at the pool and can be easily read, even through foggy googles and flip-turn splashback.

A great aproach on how to conduct land training in swimming! A "must have" tool to every swimming coach

Editorial Review:

It is widely recognized that out-of-pool conditioning is a vitally important part of the preparation for competitive swimming. This conditioning guide covers all aspects of land-based training and is essential reading for all those swimmers who wish to improve their performance. Covers training in considerable detail and fully illustrates how each exercise fits into British Swimming Long Team Athlete Development Plan. Includes periodized training programmes for all five LTAD levels, demonstrates dynamic warm-up sequences, examines a pre-swim injury prevention routine, and contains exercise for medicine balls and Swiss balls. The book also discusses controversial subjects such as land training for children, gender issues, and how to incorporate land training into competition tapers.
