This book is a joy to use. Ms. Karter explains the concepts behind the workouts, then presents the exercises in a graded series of three levels. The pictures are clear and easy to follow. (There are a couple of places where the pictures are a little different than the written explanations; in that case I do what is shown in the pictures.) Each level has its own color code on the outer edge of the page, so you can open the book quickly to the appropriate level.

In the first chapter Ms. Karter explains the reasons for developing the "core muscles," that is, all the muscles extending from the the base of the neck, down the back and front of the trunk, to the pelvic floor muscles. These muscles support your spine and interior organs, improve your posture, and help you with your balance. Moreover, working on all these muscles together makes your body work more efficiently, which gives you more stamina.

In the next chapter she explains the principles of proper alignment when doing the exercises. She includes a few exercises just for getting lined up correctly. This is very important, as it greatly affects the outcome of doing this work. I found her explanations of these key concepts to be thorough and clear.

The final three chapters contain the exercises, in graded levels. You do each level for at least six weeks before moving on. I found six weeks to be adequate for levels one and two (I'm about to move into level three at this time), however, I have a yoga background. Some people may need more time. I could easily see spending three or more months per level, and that would be fine. There's no hurry in learning how to move your body in this way!

Most of the exercises are for strengthening the back and abdominal muscles. However, there are also some for stretching the hamstrings, and developing balance, arm strength, and back flexibility. Combining strength with flexibility exercises makes for a very satisfying workout.

After just a few weeks of the first level I did find that I had more energy, and my posture was much taller without me constantly having to straighten myself up. Better yet, whereas I used to use my lower back for various tasks such as vacuuming, now I work more from my inner abdominals, which has saved my back a lot of stress. The added benefit is that my abdominals are getting a workout even when I'm off the exercise mat. Finally, developing my inner abdominal muscles has greatly improved my breathing; I'm taking deeper breaths from the belly on a more regular basis, rather than the shallow breathing which was my former habit.

I've found that going back to yoga after working with this book has really enhanced my yoga practice as well. I had always been told in yoga classes to "work from my core," but as my core was undeveloped, I couldn't really feel what the instructors were talking about. Now I know, and I really can work from my core.

This is a great book for improving your overall health, stamina, and appearance.

No ubelievable claims, no stupid equipment, just factual, well-written advice on how to strengthen and tone your abs. This book is great. I just had a baby and I'm getting back in shape and I can already see the results thanks to the exercises in this book. The abs are more complicated than you think, but this book makes it easy to work the various muscle groups. The book itself is a very easy read, good diagrams and instructions, not overwhelming like lots of other books on working out. Just like that Little Yoga book which I also love, this Little Abs book is a MUST HAVE and a great stocking stuffer, and now I realize a PERFECT baby shower gift for your girlfriends who like to be in shape!

the best way to get abs is to diet and do situps, start with a little than buildup hitting all areas of the stomach. this book provides you with the exercises to do as do all of them but the key is the diet. if your looking for a guide to learn what situps to do than i'll recommend but if you alredy know about what situps to do than you'll just be reading what you already know.

the key for the ab work is the diet. this book is a great guide for what situps to do but you must have a good diet. if your not a beginner than you will read what you already know. however if your not familiar with situps than i would reccomend this for you.

In order to get the abs that you see in this book, this would entail a full time job and commitment not only on what you eat, how much you eat and how many hours a day you would need to spend in the gym to accomplish this .. who has this type of time?

Most abs books are primarily the same. Good information but moderation is the key to life not the extreme.

Bootcamp Abs - "Hoo-yah" 5 out of 5 stars.

Bootcamp Abs is impressive well crafted edgy read that's offers probably the best nutritional advice and workout routines I've ever seen. For the past 10 weeks, I've been following the prescriptions found the book and can say I'll never pay for another gym membership or read a "fad diet" book again. At 34, I've lost 21 lbs and have reduced my 3 minute run to just under a 8 mins mile pace. I might not be ready for a marathon, but I feel great and know I'm in the best shape of my life.

One of the secrets that surprised me was that the exercises and workouts require no gym or weight lifting equipment. The exercises and the workout routines only use your body as resistance. I'm amazed the impact my own body has had on muscle development in my chest, arms, legs, and abs. All I've needed these weeks is my local workout area, running path, and self-motivation to keep me going.

My favorite part of the book is the second half of the book. It zeros in on fully explaining what good nutrition is in very practical and easy to understand ways. The author does a great job dispelling the myths of "fad diets" and stresses the importance of good "lower-GI" carbs, protein, fiber, unsaturated fats, dietary supplaments, and daily water intake. While good health is work unto itself, the book does a great job simplifying the nutritional guidance into 8 Direct Orders that when the are committed to memory are easy to follow.

Overall, the book has a good healthy dose of military edge. I enjoyed the "Hoo-yah, Yes Ma'ma/Sir!" approach the book. Every time I refer back to the book for more detail, I get inspired knowing the workouts and nutritional guidance I'm following is close if not the same as the men and women of the Marines and other armed forces. The workouts and nutritional guidelines are spot on (I can truly attest). If your serious about building a stronger body, developing better cardio, and getting those six-pack abs, Bootcamp Abs is the right way to go. Hoo-yah!

I've tried almost every workout program for abs, but since I began with the workout in this book, I've gotten the best results, in less time. Believe or not, in just six weeks you'll see a BIG difference. I challenge you to try it, you'll NOT regret.

Forget that damned ab-machine I bought for $59... or was it $99... last year when they were hot. All I got was a sore back and guilt when I shoved it under the bed where it is now collecting dust.

This inexpensive little book tells me how to do it without injuring myself and my stomach is flat, smooth and sexy in only about 4 or 5 weeks. If I wanted a lot of definition like a bodybuilder, I am sure I could get it, but this sure does the trick for those of us who just want to look good in a bathing suit, too.

Hopefully those dust bunnies under the bed are getting a workout with the ab machine but meanwhile "Legendary Abs" is my equipment of choice for a flat stomach.
