Editorial Review:

Your immune system is hard at work when you are sick. It's on the job when you are well, too--invisible, silent, powerful. Human life depends on immunity. You couldn't survive without it.

Yet our knowledge of its basis is barely a century old, and we are perhaps centuries more away from a full understanding. Today in laboratories all over the world, scientists are striving to unlock the secrets of the immune system—secrets that could prolong life and promote health for generations in the future. The frontiers of medical science are molecules and atoms we can't see, even with our most powerful microscopes.

In this book for young adult readers, author Faith Brynie answers some of the question students most often ask about immunity. She answers them with the best knowledge and expert opinion available, drawn from the world's preeminent research scientists and their studies. The immune system is complicated, but Brynie makes it comprehensible in this addition to her award-winning 101 QUESTIONS... series.

An excellent book for young, school-bound allergic children 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

"Starting School with a Food Allergy" by Christina Black is an excellent resource for school-bound allergic children ages 5 - 8. This book breaks down an often overwhelming experience into manageable steps, presenting it in a realistic yet very positive light. Ms. Black uses photographs to illustrate the people, places and events that allergic children must familiarize themselves with, and reinforces both peer and adult advocacy. I highly recommend this book not only to school-bound allergic children and their families, but to their friends and classmates, as well.

A Peanut-Allergic Boy Starts Kindergarten 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Ricky will be off to Kindergarten in September. Elementary school presents new situations and challenges for a 5 year old, peanut-allergic boy. His older friends and his sister Annie's friends explain how he can deal with snacks, lunch and parties in school and how classmates and teachers can help him to be not only safe, but happy in this new environment. There are lots of pictures of real kids in real situations. The text seems to be fine for K-Grade 2; this should encourage young readers.

Editorial Review:

Ricky is allergic to peanuts. He is starting school this year. Can he stay safe at school and still have fun? Fun pictures and beginning reader text help children in grades K-2 learn how food-allergic kids can stay safe at school.

Awesome Book 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

We recently purchased the book Abby the Alley Cat: Staying Safe From Diary for my daughter who we recently found out has multiple food allergies. She loves it. I like that it puts a positive spin on refusing dairy, rather than making it sound like she's missing out on something. It is empowering for her to have that reinforcement and there is a great reminder that there are yummy things that she can eat that are safe. The book is also beautifully illustrated. My daughter's favorite picture is of the french poodles. Even my boys, who don't have allergies, love this book. I highly recommend this book and all three of my kids agree.

Editorial Review:

As the parents of a son with life threatening food allergies, we wanted to write a book that would help children to stay safe from dairy, feel confident in real-life situations, and build their self-esteem as special kids. And that¿s how Abby the Alley Cat was born. We hope she helps your child stay safe and feel special!
