An excellent book for young, school-bound allergic children 5 out of 5 stars.

"Starting School with a Food Allergy" by Christina Black is an excellent resource for school-bound allergic children ages 5 - 8. This book breaks down an often overwhelming experience into manageable steps, presenting it in a realistic yet very positive light. Ms. Black uses photographs to illustrate the people, places and events that allergic children must familiarize themselves with, and reinforces both peer and adult advocacy. I highly recommend this book not only to school-bound allergic children and their families, but to their friends and classmates, as well.
A Peanut-Allergic Boy Starts Kindergarten 5 out of 5 stars.

Ricky will be off to Kindergarten in September. Elementary school presents new situations and challenges for a 5 year old, peanut-allergic boy. His older friends and his sister Annie's friends explain how he can deal with snacks, lunch and parties in school and how classmates and teachers can help him to be not only safe, but happy in this new environment. There are lots of pictures of real kids in real situations. The text seems to be fine for K-Grade 2; this should encourage young readers.
Editorial Review:
Ricky is allergic to peanuts. He is starting school this year. Can he stay safe at school and still have fun? Fun pictures and beginning reader text help children in grades K-2 learn how food-allergic kids can stay safe at school.
