GREAT GREAT GREAT!! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is an excellent book to help you with any sleep issues your baby/toddler is having. There is common sense step by step guides to multiple sleep situations, and sensible case studies that one can easily relate too and follow the advice for their own situation. My baby is 7 months and happily sleeps from 6.45pm to when I wake her at 7.30ish the next morning. Based on Gina's advice, my husband and I have our evenings together, and a happy contented baby during the day. Perfect! This book helped iron out the kinks in our schedule and I am sure it will be a handy reference guide for the future if any other sleep situations arise.

Editorial Review:

Aren’t babies supposed to sleep most of the time? Gina Ford’s practical guide helps parents understand their children’s sleep patterns and gives them invaluable advice on how to solve or avoid common problems — starting from the first day home after birth.

Editorial Review:

A renowned pediatrician explains her revolutionary new method for training infants to sleep right . . . from the start  Dr. Cathryn Tobin, pediatrician of 25 years, midwife, and mother of four, reveals a breakthrough discovery that will transform the way that parents put their infants and toddlers to bed. Dr. Tobin has found that a physiological window of opportunity opens—usually at 6 to 8 weeks—when a baby can learn great sleep habits before bad ones develop. If parents follow her 7-day plan and take advantage of this crucial time in child development, they and their newborn will be sleeping through the night sooner than any other sleep book promises . . . and without the crying and screaming that comes with other approaches.
This is the first sleep manual that focuses on preventing infant sleep problems before they have a chance to begin. But if a parent has missed the window, there’s still hope and HELP: Dr. Tobin’s no-cry program for re-training older babies and toddlers. Dr. Tobin developed this program after sleep deprivation caused a car accident that almost cost her life. Since then she has successfully used her method with hundreds of grateful parents.

Practical, common-sense solutions for sane parents 5 out of 5 stars.

To negative comments on this book: Don't buy this book if you don't want your child be independent enough to be able to sleep on his/her own. Don't buy it, if you want to sacrifice your own sleep for 2-3-4-who-knows-how-many years to come - because I know a mother of 4 y.o. who still hasn't gotten a full night sleep. Is it really helpful to your child? Because she is not getting a full-night sleep either.

I am using this book for the second time for my second child and I love it. With my second, amazingly, there was NO crying at all, I just saw the signs when he was ready to give up one and then a second feeding and I just pushed a little - with a minor discomfort of me rocking the crib for 1hr for a couple of nights and the baby being comforted in a different way. Were he really hungry, he would have let that be known, I'm sure.

I was also successful with the first one, although he didn't sleep through the night until maybe 9 m.o., which was OK. At least he learned to fall asleep on his own very early and that fed into him being more independent and helped us enormously on vacations, etc.

Editorial Review:

A good night's sleep is crucial both for a child's well-being and a parent's peace of mind. This positive, practical guide teaches parents to establish good sleeping habits in their kids and cope with the problems that cause sleepless nights, from colic to bed-wetting to nightmares.

There are so many books out there now for parents, especially about sleep. I never would have known which one to pick -who has time for more than one?- if one of my co-workers hadn't told me to check out the Brazelton Way. Well, she was right. This book is only about a hundred pages long, it fits in your pocket, and it's written so clearly you can zip right through it. I love my kids, but I'd rather be with them than spending a lot of time reading about them. I know many parents who feel the same way, especially single parents like me. It's tough raising a child alone, especially for a guy, because everyone is second guessing you and making you feel like you're never going to figure out how to take care of a kid. These little books, though, have really made me feel like I know what I'm doing. I love the way they steer me back to trusting my own gut, and at the same time give me so much useful advice. I bought this sleep book because my four-year-old was waking up with nightmares every night. He was so scared of having another one that he started refusing to go to bed. I couldn't deal with that because I have to get my sleep too. But this book gave me a few simple tips and all I had to do was try them out a few times and my little boy settled down - no more nightmares.

This books is definitely the one. I highly recommend it to any parent who wants to be sure they're doing everything they can do to raise happy, healthy kids.

Editorial Review:

Sleep: The Brazelton Way covers everything a parent needs to know about sleep, including the first great "touchpoint" of helping the baby sleep through the night, deciding whether to start with, and weaning a child from, a "family bed," sleepwalking, nightmares, and, above all, how to help children learn how to get themselves to sleep.

Sleepless nights, wailing babies, defiant toddlers--these are universal issues for new parents. Now beloved pediatrician T. Berry Brazelton and his esteemed colleague the child psychiatrist Joshua Sparrow come to the rescue with these highly effective and affordable guides. Full of empathy, warmth, and wisdom, each book in the Brazelton Way series leads parents step-by-step through these trying struggles. Courtesy of Dr. Brazelton's unparalleled understanding and experience, parents will emerge from the turmoil relieved, empowered, and full of new pleasure in the strength and progress of their individual child.

Somewhat helpful, but mostly biased and rigid! 2 out of 5 stars.
17 of 32 people found this review helpful.

I as well did not find this book very helpful.I am not a mother, but my sister and her family live with us.My sister practices and has practiced co-sleeping with all 5 of her children and they are not whiny, sniveling brats as this book and others against co-sleeping suggest! They are happy, well adjusted children who are confident and secure.

And also, to think that the AAP would scare poor first time parents into believing that they could accidentally suffocate their own children is appaling to me! There has never been any scientific proof thus far that this happens, unless the parent is drunk or otherwise impared. My sister has 5 living breathing human beings to attest that this rarely happens.I wish sleep books would give parents this option without presenting it in such a negative fashion. The parents have the right to do what they feel is best for their children without being made to feel guilty for doing it!

How to make bedtime work for you and for baby! 5 out of 5 stars.
21 of 21 people found this review helpful.

This is a wonderful resource for parents who want to work out bedtime issues in a way that is consistent with their own values and needs. Rather than pushing a single approach, Ms. Huntley guides parents to think about options and to choose a bedtime strategy that fits for their family and for their baby. Out of all of the current resources for families regarding infant sleep issues, this is the one that I recommend most highly!

The Sleep Book For Tired Parents 5 out of 5 stars.

By 4 months I expected my baby to be sleeping more than 2 hours at a stretch, but that was not happening. It was becoming obvious that all three of us needed more sleep. The teacher at a new mom's class recommended this book and it is a lifesaver. My husband and I agreed that we did not want to
"Just let him cry it out" but we also agreed that we did not want a permanent family bed. While we did not mind bringing our son into bed with us during the night we wanted him to nap and start out the night sleeping in his crib, hopefully for more than two hours. This book offers several choices to sleep training and does not make you feel like a bad parent if you modify a method to fit your needs. By the fifth night of following one of the methods our son was putting himself to sleep for 4-6 hours for the first time at night, in his crib. And all this with limited crying on all our parts!! He even is beginning to put himself to sleep for naps in his crib too. Both my husband and I feel we have seen a vast improvement in a very short period of time. It's hard to believe, but it really does work. IF YOU ARE A TIRED PARENT, BUY THIS BOOK!!!!!

Editorial Review:

This book offers parents options to accommodate their family's individual values and style. Practical suggestions help ease parents and children into a sleep pattern that the whole family can live with. Parents can choose for themselves from three major techniques: the family bed, the cry-it-out approach, and the teach-in-small-steps plan.

A terrible idea! 1 out of 5 stars.
28 of 33 people found this review helpful.

If you are looking for a book on selfisness, this is it! As new parents, my wife and I were looking for something like this to get our son to sleep through the night. We made the double mistake of; a, buying this book and b, trying out the ideas in it. After a few nights of staying up, listening to our frightened child cry for his parents (and all of us getting less sleep than before I might add) we tossed out the book and went back to our old sleep patterns. So what if your child doesn't sleep through the night? Do you? Each and every night? Not likely. Everyone is different and what most new parents don't need is to be shamed into thinking this is the best system for them (see pages 77-78) he says 'shame' so many times I lost count! Save your money. Listen to your child and to your heart instead, belive me your can't go wrong that way!

Not good for all kids 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I used this book with my first child. It seemed to fit like a glove. Looking back I'm not so sure I did the best thing for him. He wasn't a big eater, and my milk supply dried up at 5 months. I think I would have been able to breast fed longer, and he would have been more healthy had I demand fed like I am with my second. My second son, has a ferocious appetite. There's no way, I'd be able to put him on this program without many tears from both the baby and I. It is not worth the undue stress to try to adhere to what in the author's opinion is the "right way" to do things. Plus, I have trouble keeping my milk supply, so this program is definately not good for that. My lactation consultant told me she's seen at least ten babies that needed serious intervention because they were not thriving due to being on this program.

You, as a Parent, Need Sleep too. Get This Book. 5 out of 5 stars.

I have 2 kids and these principles worked great for me. I also know of at least 15 other kids who have been put on the schedule and did fantastic too. Of course there's always controversy on baby books; attachment parenting has flaws too. Most people who have problems with this book did not apply it correctly and listened to too many other people's advice; probably people who never even tried it. It is important for babies to get sleep, but to be a good parent you need to be well rested as well. Having a good night sleep and a healthy baby (most all of the babies DO NOT have problems) are key to being good parents, especially of a newborn. Read this book. Try it. If you don't like it, then there are always 100's of other things out there to help. But as for me and my house, we will ALWAYS use this method. It brings sanity home quick. Want a family blog? it really works! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

eduard estivill is a spanish pediatrician, very famous in europe for his dedication to parents' good night sleep. this book really does work! don't be afraid and give it a try for 1 week; it might be hard but magically after few nights you will realize how golden these advices are.
my son slept through the night from he was 6-week-old and he never ever had any sleep problem ever since (he's 4 and a half now).

Not useful- don't waste your time or money 1 out of 5 stars.

As a parent of a post-colic, breast-fed, 5 month old boy, I welcomed this inexpensive, easy read with a simple plan. The approach was oversimplified and did not help our family. Perhaps it is better suited for a younger infant who may be more easily reconditioned. I would recommend reading Suzy Giardino's or Dr. Weissbluth's books instead. Good luck.
