Editorial Review:

BABY SLEEPYTIME

A book of classic nursery rhymes packaged with a CD that provides sonic sleep rhythms and soothing ocean sounds to gently lull your baby into the peaceful land of dreams. Guaranteed!

As every new parent knows, getting your baby to sleep can be a daunting task. Baby Sleepytime combines a book of delightful nursery rhymes that you read to your child as you play the hour-long CD that is scientifically designed to help you and your baby go to sleep faster and stay asleep longer.

Baby Sleepytime is a breakthrough advancement in sleep technology. Employing Independent Binaural Beat Sound Technology, the CD is so effective that you won't spend another sleepless night soothing your crying baby. Baby Sleepytime uses the power of binaural beats to induce the Frequency Following Response (FFR). Well-known to scientists since the 1930s, binaural beats and FFR were the subject of an article in Scientific American in 1973 that led to many new discoveries into brainwave effects.

AV technologist Christopher Oliver has built on these discoveries to create a unique and powerful dual binaural beat technology. He recorded and mixed multiple tracks of ocean waves from the Gulf of Mexico at Padre Island, blending them to produce a backdrop on which he layered multi-track, sleep-inducing brainwave sounds. The result is the most effective sleep CD ever. It even works for adults.
Completely safe and very effective, Baby Sleepytime means no more crying and tears at bedtime for babies and no more sleepless nights for parents. Guaranteed!

Infants should NOT be sleeping throught the night! 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

a 9 week old sleeping through the night? Not likely. They have small stomachs and still need to eat frequently. I read a book that said that even 9 month olds still need to sometimes eat in the nighttime. Why is our society so eager to push independence in infants? They are only babies for a short while. Why do we want to rush that? Babies will sleep when they are ready to sleep. The only "Sleep problems" created our by these books that make parents feel that if their 3 week old is not sleeping 10 hours that they have created a monster! Babies were not designed to sleep all night. They need to eat!
Even Adults can't always make it all night without a drink of water! Why the heck should we deny infants this?

Editorial Review:

Few sounds are more disconcerting than that of a crying infant unable or unwilling to go to sleep. The sound is particularly distressing in the middle of the night when the parents know that the baby - and what they - need is sleep. Nor is the problem limited to babies. Many families endure months or even years of insomnia because of their children's habitual lack of sleep. The consequences for the parents' health, well-being, enjoyment of their children, and in some cases the health of relationships and working lives, are considerable. This book provides a sensible, no-nonsense guide to how babies sleep and why they cry. It shows how this knowledge can be applied in practical ways to help the normal, healthy baby to establish sleeping patterns that will improve its life and benefit the entire family. The process is not always easy, but following this program means that a good night's sleep may no longer be an impossible dream.

Beautifully written with expert advice 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 13 people found this review helpful.

As a sleep researcher and educator I am always looking for simply written "how to" books based on strong empirical evidence. Dr. Wilkoff knows what he is talking about and covers all the bases. Want to avoid unnecessarily cranky children? Want to live with a happy youngster who is fully alert all day long? Want to be a better parent? Read this book!

Editorial Review:

From crankiness and the "terrible twos" to recurrent ear infections and headaches that young children often experience, to the listlesness and low academic performance of teenagers, many childhood problems can be traced to a simple but often overlooked cause: the lack of sleep. This handbook, for parents, explains how to recognize the signs of fatigue in a child, determine how much sleep a child really needs and establish a routine that satisfies a child's needs at every age and stage of development. This guide identifies key contributing factors to a child's tiredness - television; too many extra-curricular activities; a parent's schedule; and even the electric lighting in the home. It offers remedies such as extra sleep or setting a weekday and weekend bedtime schedule.

Editorial Review:

Tackles the single most important issue for new parents in a fresh, accessible way
The perfect gift for new parents

As every exhausted new parent knows (and it goes without saying that every new parent is exhausted), it takes a full bag of tricks to get more than three consecutive hours of shut-eye from your little bundle of joy. So Ann Treistman—herself the mother of two—compiled 73 simple techniques for sending your infant off to Dreamland. These baby-tested tips will be manna from heaven to sleep-deprived moms and dads. Here’s a sampling:

Dim the Lights. Some babies like to sleep in complete darkness; others like low light. So consider installing a dimmer switch in the nursery.
Swaddle Him with Love. Wrapping your baby snugly comforts him—as if you were holding him tight.
Twenty to Go. It typically takes a baby about 20 minutes to go from waking to sleep. Give her a chance to get there.
Warm the Bed. Use a hot water bottle (but don’t leave it in the crib), or toss your baby’s blanket in the dryer for a few minutes before bedtime.

Designed for definite gift appeal, 73 Ways to Help Your Baby Sleep is illustrated with the cutest color photos of slumbering babies ever published. All the advice is compatible with current parenting wisdom, and a foreword is provided by Dr. Marianne Felice, head of pediatrics at UMass Medical.

A Tough Topic Handled Well 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

The subject of sleep and babies is a very contraversial one. There is a lot of guilt and mthys surrounding it. The author does a wonderful job of educating the reader about what all of the MYTHS are and what the FACTS are. There is very little research that has been done on breastfed babies and sleep as well as co-sleepers. As a doctor and as a new mother I am constantly amazed at how many people are quick to judge what kind of parent you are depending on whether your child is sleeping through the night, as well as what strategies you have employed for "sleep time". The generation gap is huge on this topic and many mothers are left to feel guilty by the choices they have made and have no one to turn to as their mothers just do not understand. Most women will lie to avoid saying their baby spends any time in their bed. This book helps women feel good about the choice they decide to make and gives information in a factual non-judgemental way so that people can make a decision for themselves that suits their temperment as well as their babies. A must for any mother struggling with the sleep issue.

Editorial Review:

In Search of Sleep offers a unique and welcome approach to a timeless topic. Author Bonny Reichert decided after her first child was born that waking to comfort of a crying baby in the wee hours isn't a mistake - it's a choice. Here, she delves into the sleep issue with intelligence, sensitivity and humor. Based on a survey conducted by Today's Parent magazine, Reichert's work is peppered with advice and sympathetic words from the parents of night wakers. Reader's will find a review of popular sleep training techniques and the science of sleep cycles, an exploration of the myths that surround night waking, an examination of the effects that the generation gap, culture and expert advice can have on parents, and a treasure trove of coping strategies.

Only a mini-book 2 out of 5 stars.
61 of 63 people found this review helpful.

I am a huge fan of Dr Sears and practice attachment parenting and so purchsed this to help with our sleep issues. Sadly, this is a very tiny book that contains the Q & As from his website and other books. Nothing new and no answers. We ALREADY co-sleep, we ALREADY use a sling. We ALREADY respond to our baby's every cry. BUT we are STILL getting up with her every 2 hours and she's a year old. We NEED some sleep. I found a different book that Dr Sears wrote the introduction to called The No-Cry Sleep Solution and it actually has the answers. At 250 pages it has got tons of practical ideas that really are helping my baby to sleep better. I knew Dr Sears would lead me to the answers, but he didn't do it with this mini-book.

Give it up 3 out of 5 stars.

Quit reading these damn books now! We have a seven month old and have tried everything short of the barbaric cry it out method... and we have observed several friends and neighbors try that... What we have seen in every case including our own is that each baby has unique patterns of sleep and each method affects each baby uniquely and more importantly the results, good or bad are always temporary... eventually they will all get back to sleeping the way they were going to before you started trying to sleep train them. Some babies come home from the hospital and sleep through the night... some will suddenly start doing so at six months fourteen days and twenty one hours... I am convinced there is very little you can do to influence your baby' sleep patterns other than facilitate "a sleepy environment" in response to your baby's pattern. This book does a better job than most at giving you techniqus for doing so. People will probably review this book and say it "doesn't work my baby still won't sleep!".... well he's not going to till he's ready live with it. Others will say this book is way off...they let their baby cry it out and it worked... bull caca... baby's sleep the way they want when they want... the fact that after three months ignoring your baby's panicked cries for help he started to sleep through the nightis just as likely coincidence as it is proof that you've "taught your baby to sleep"!

A godsend 5 out of 5 stars.
18 of 20 people found this review helpful.

This book is quick and easy to read - an absolute necessity when you're sleep-deprived. It describes problems in a simple straighforward manner and then offers many different alternatives to solve them. It explains the rationale of how these problems develop and why various solutions work. That allows each parent to decide individually how to best solve their own problem. It is very well cross-referenced within the text so that if you find you are in the wrong section, you can easily find the right one - very useful when you want to go back a reread some particular information.

You need this book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book saved my sanity. It is great because it gives you choices and options so you chose what you feel comfortable with. Three friends had babies about the same time I did, they could not believe how great my son slept. I loaned them the book, now their children are amazing sleepers.

Editorial Review:

Offers real-world solutions to bedraggled parents, presenting proven methods to increasing the number of sleep hours per night, feeling less fatigued during the day, finding more time and energy, and improving a child's daytime demeanor.
