Alan & Grant; The MacGregors Continue 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Fabulous writing, especially Alan and Shelby's story. Alan, an up and coming Senator headed for the Presidency meets Shelby Campbell at a political reception. Shelby has been surrounded with the world of Washington, DC politics her entire life. Her father, Senator Robert Campbell, was in the same position as Alan; a US Senator being groomed for the Presidency when he was assassinated at the feet of his two young children, Shelby and her brother Grant. Shelby is part of the political fundraising world, at the request of her mother who asks her to participate; however, she is determined never to make it personal. She has her own shop as a potter and is very happy selling her wares and staying out of the public eye. Shelby is very savvy at the receptions and knows everyone. This is where Alan first sets eyes on her and is immediately attracted to her red curly hair and smoke gray eyes. At this point, Alan decides that Shelby is definitely someone worth getting to know and Shelby is determined to keep the likes of him at a distance. What will "The MacGregor" have to say when he finds out that his son is falling head over heels for his lifelong nemesis, the clan Campbell! Alan represents all the fears inbred in Shelby from her earliest years as the victim of a political tragedy; she WILL NOT allow him into her life. And so the struggle begins.

Genvieve Grandeau and Grant Campbell's story begins at the lighthouse in Maine when Gennie's, a New Orleans artist, car breaks down on a deserted road in the middle of a turbulent thunderstorm. Gennie is trying to get to the cottage she has rented in coastal Maine to leave the big city for a while and the paparazzi of her world and just paint in the peace and quiet of the town of Windy Point. She is seeking some solitude from her very public life in the hopes of making some peace with herself over the death of her sister. Angela was killed in a motor vehicle accident; Gennie was the driver. The accident was no fault of hers, but she still feels responsible. She walks through a thunderstorm on a rocky, muddy road to be led by the light of an old lighthouse. Lo and behold, Grant Campbell, anonymous creator of the cartoon character, McIntosh, is the owner and not very happy about this lost soul invading his privacy. Grant is Shelby's brother and has his own ghosts to contend with, which is one of the biggest reasons he has decided to create his art in the secluded comfort of the old lighthouse and remain anonymous. Of course this is the beginning of a "stormy" relationship and a great story.

I believe of all the MacGregor stories, the two I enjoyed the most, are Anna Whitefield [Daniel & Ian] and Alan MacGregor [Alan & Grant]. They are a clan definitely worth getting to know.

Editorial Review:

All the Possibilities
Creative, compelling, unconventional -- Shelby Campbell was unlike any woman Senator Alan MacGregor had ever known. The cynical politician found himself falling in love with the spirited beauty, though she kept him at arm's length. But despite the centuries-old feud between the MacGregors and Campbells, absolutely nothing would keep Alan from getting what he wanted . . .

One Man's Art
Grant Campbell had withdrawn from the world, living alone in a lighthouse -- until a storm stranded the glamorous Genevieve Grandeau on his doorstep. Grant wasn't a man used to making room for others in his life. Could the enchanting artist erase the shadows from his past and convince him their love was a beacon for the future?

ENGAGING THE ENEMY 5 out of 5 stars.

THE BOOK ITSELF WAS QUITE "ENGAGING" AND HELD MY ATTENTION TO THE END. I JUST LOVE THE WAY NORA ROBERTS HOLDS YOUR ATTENTION TO THE VERY END.

3 1/2 stars for me 3 out of 5 stars.

Nora Roberts writes with ease and confidence. Her prose is always lucid and her plots are credible. Characterization is one of Nora's strengths, with people being revealed rather than described, thereby allowing the reader to engage the text with greater intimacy. This aspect of her writing was recently discussed during an interview with David Letterman on the 'Tonight Show', and at the conclusion of the interview, Letterman's side-kick, Paul Shaffer, screamed out at the top of his voice, 'Hey Nora! I engaged the enemy 20 years ago. Then I married her.' To her credit, Ms Roberts ignored the buffoon's comments and maintained a dignified, Harpo Marx-like silence, concluding the interview with a honk of her bicycle horn. It was a telling moment.

Editorial Review:

The number one "New York Times" bestselling author offers an irresistible combination of sensuality and charismatic characters in this duo of her earlier hard-to-find full-length novels: "A Will and a Way" and "Boundary Lines." Reissue.

Characters and comedy 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The thing about this and the other in death books is the authors wonderful characters and her ability to bring Laughter into the strangest situations. One wouldn't imagine that murder, mystery and homicide are all that funny but in this book the ugly is tempered with a smile or giggle.

What is romance? 5 out of 5 stars.

Lieutenant Eve Dallas is after a killer who has a flare for romance and murder. He sets the scene with care....pink rose petals, champagne, caviar and sexually enhancing drugs, to make women plyant and willing. The only problem is that he is killing them, and it would appear that he is tallying up bodies quickly. Dealing with her past and all of the nightmares/memories it produces, Eve must battle evil (once again) while juggling her cases and her sexy husband, Roarke. This time, her opponent is both diabolical and creative, and apparently has computer skills (to rival Roarke) and money (apparently the drug, [...], is extremely expensive and hard to obtain) to keep her at bay, but not for long.

We also get another opportunity to see the whole gang, and smile at the all too familiar Peabody and McNab. Fans also learn in this installment, how Louise and the sexy LC Charles got together. I think this is one of my favorites in the series, and loved seeing Summerset, Trina, Mavis, Leonardo, Feeney, Galahad and Whitney again. It was definately a must read

Eve Dallas seeks a killer who uses a poetry chat room to lure victims drawn to his facade of the "perfect man."

great read 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I think that this was a very good read. I really enjoyed the characters and the plot. However, I think that for a story that took three books to get to the "battle", the battle should have lasted longer than a chapter. But, while I agree that some of her early stuff wasn't as seasoned as her newer books, I really did like this book. In the Garden is still the best by far!

Wizards, Vampires and Dragons oh my! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I am not a huge Nora Roberts fan but the concept of Vampire, wizards/witches and dragons good vs evil sounded like fun. And it was, she did a good job with the characters and the time travel seemed possible. It has a romance but not so much that it would be a romance novel I would put it more in the fantasy classification. I felt it was worth reading the rest of the trilogy

Editorial Review:

As a storm rages, the tale of a powerful vampire's lust for destruction-and of the circle of six charged by the goddess Morrigan to stop her-begins. One of the chosen is a medieval sorcerer whose quest will take him through time-and into the arms of a woman courageous enough to link her destiny to his own.

A great installment 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The 12th installment of the IN DEATH series delivers!
Eve Dallas tackles her greatest challenge to date when it is discovered that the murderer she's chasing has targeted none other than her husband, Roarke. She must balance heart and head, managing to keep both in check, if this murderous rampage is to be stopped before her husband falls victim.

The suspense is perfectly-written. It feels very natural. It feels very real and lifelike. Occasionally, writers grow stale and their stories lose something. In this installment, Nora Roberts (writing as J.D. Robb) has not lost a step! I loved this book.

Betrayal In Death 5 out of 5 stars.

Great book! J.D. Robb did a terrific job on this book. It really holds your interest. If you her previous In Death books, this one will not disappoint you.

Nora Roberts Rocks! Lt. Eve Dallas makes the best protagonist and it's like a ongoing series so there is always a new story!

Difficult to put down 5 out of 5 stars.
27 of 34 people found this review helpful.

I picked up Treasures by Nora Roberts, I had not expected it to be much more than a semi-interesting read. However, with every page turn, I became more and more attached to the novel's heroine, and actually found it very difficult to put the book down. Since reading this book, I have highly recommended it to all my girlfriends. It's a beautiful story about life, love and friendship filled with excitement, heartbreak and hope!!! I'd also recommend reading K. G. Glaub's novel -- Circe's Song --if you haven't yet!!

Other titles to read: Circe's Song

He was standing face-to-face with a dead woman…and she was holding a gun. Lieutenant Seth Buchanan's homicide investigation was thrown into turmoil when Grace Fontaine turned up very much alive—and in possession of one of the huge blue diamonds known as the Stars of Mithra. Seth never let his feelings get in the way of his job…but it was becoming increasingly difficult with no mystery more compelling than that of Grace herself.

Kate Hardesty had inherited a dream: a pile of mysterious charts and notebooks, mapping the way to sunken treasure. Determined to complete her late father's explorations, she returned to the island where she grew up and hired deep-sea diver Ky Silver—the man she'd left behind four years ago. But working with Ky meant more than searching for gold…it meant finding a priceless treasure Kate hadn't been looking for.

Great hardcover! 5 out of 5 stars.

The "in Death" books were published in paperback here until recently... I was able to find a seller in England who provided me with many of the older books in the series in hardcover, and was excited to find this one.

Great Eve Dallas book - I have almost all of them, and love them!

Tone down the Eve Dallas butt-kissing 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I'm giving the book five stars, because it's good despite a few problems.

Julianna Dunne was a fascinating villainess. What makes her fascinating is she actually seduced her stepfather and cried rape to gain sympathy, which is rather ironic as the author is constantly using the fact Eve's father did rape her to gain sympathy for the character. Thankfully, the author also breathed some new life in the tired dream of the red room and the blood that's been shoved down the viewer's throat for the last 12 or 13 books.

Julianna's has returned to wreak revenge on Eve and she's decided the way to pay her back for sending her to prison is to kill Eve's husband, Roarke. I wish they would have taken it to the mat in regards to Roarke being in danger, since Eve saw the instant Julianna tried to give Roarke a poison glass of champagne, so you didn't really feel Roarke's life was ever really that much in jeopardy.

There was also a nice little side mystery of a cold case involving the murder of Marsha Stibbs. I applauded Eve when the ever-annoying Peabody felt sorry for the woman who killed her so she could have her husband and Eve rightfully said the one she should feel sorry for is Marsha Tibbs.

The bad parts of the book regard the inappropriately creepy Dr. Mira and the bootlicking Peabody. I don't know where the author is trying to go with the Eve/Mira relationship, but it doesn't work and she comes off desperate to form some kind of bond with a woman who just isn't that into her. She was practically begging Eve to take her with her when she went to Dallas declaring she could make it all better for her if she did. Eve, however, wanted Roarke with her, as he's the one she's able to open up to about her past. Then Mira went over a bugged Roarke to see how he was feeling. I really think the Mira character needs to be drop-kicked from the series, because she really doesn't work in the capacity the author is trying to go for. As for Peabody, the only thing that makes her tolerable is her relationship with McNabb. She started mouthing off to Roarke in defense of her idol, when he was allowing her equally annoying parents to stay in his house, and if she'd done the same with Eve, she would have been kissing her butt and begging forgiveness, but she never offered one word of apology to Roarke for her behavior. Of course the most nauseating Peabody moment of all was declaring to Eve, "You're my god."

To be frank, with the exception of Summerset, all the characters at one time or another have to worship at the shrine of Eve Dallas. Roarke gets away with it, because unlike the others, he'll also only put up with so much of Eve's crap before he gets fed up and tells her off. To the others Eve Dallas is their own little tin god who they genuflect to on a regular basis.

As a reader, I'd prefer to make up my own mind about Eve, and not have all the characters telling me she's the next best thing to sliced bread.

Still, Julianna, Roarke and Eve make this book a great read. Buy it for them and just skimmed through the butt-kissing when it gets too deep.

Editorial Review:

A birthday bash sets the scene for a frightening reunion with a killer from Eve Dallas's past.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of magic with my romances so I was hesitant to start reading this trilogy. My mom insisted I try this. I'm glad she did!

The character development was great and I was really drawn to the storyline. I read all three books in two days. I couldn't put them down!

Irish Trilogy - Book 2

The second story brings Shawn to find his destiny. After Jude and Aidan marry, he takes up residence in the haunted cottage where continues with his compositions and music. He is perfectly content until fate puts Brenna in his way.

Brenna O'Toole has always loved Shawn, but has never done anything about it. When she decides to stop sitting on the sidelines and take control, she pushes Shawn beyond his limit.

It takes magic and a ghost to get them to resolve their differences, and love each other.

This was a fine sequel to "Jewels of the Sun." The characters were sweet. On the whole, the book is quite simple, but it's an easy read and definitely worth a look if you are a Nora Roberts fan.

A Harper has always lived at Harper House, the centuries-old mansion just outside of Memphis. And for as long as anyone alive remembers, the ghostly Harper Bride has walked the halls, singing lullabies at night...

Hayley Phillips came to Memphis hoping for a new start, for herself and her unborn child. She wasn't looking for a handout from her distant cousin Roz, just a job at her thriving In the Garden nursery. To Hayley's chagrin, she has begun to dream about Harper-as much more than a friend...

If Hayley gives in to her desire, she's afraid the foundation she's built with Harper will come tumbling down.
