A fast read..a "can't put it downer"! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This watery Patterson epic sent a missle directly to the heart of one of my greatest fears - being stranded out in the middle of the ocean - nothing but deep, dark ocean waters, endless sky and an occasional fin, just to keep the adrenalin pumping. Add to that a dysfunctional family with a Mom, hoping that the "family vacation" will bring the group together like nothing else will. I granted myself the luxury of reading SAIL in one sitting, and even with the Olympics in full swing on the TV, I stayed riveted to the bobbing raft. Since I have been very critical of Patterson's last couple of efforts, I'm happy to report that he has redeemed himself in my eyes, with SAIL.

Patterson took a little more care than usual in developing his characters, so it was easy to love'em or hate'em appropriately. I love it when I don't know what is going to happen next - and although the players were clearly labeled from the beginning, when and how and a few surprises were left to be revealed as we neared the ending - as it should be.

Altogether, this was a very satisfying read - very realistic even if they had to throw in a snake that tasted like chicken, and a giant tuna with a digestion problem. I read for fun, for heaven's sakes! Even so, I've decided to re-think my idea for a family reunion aboard a boat next summer...just to be on the safe side.

Editorial Review:

Since the death of her husband, Anne Dunne and her three children have struggled in every way. In a last ditch effort to save the family, Anne plans an elaborate sailing vacation to bring everyone together once again. But only an hour out of port, everything is going wrong. The teenage daughter, Carrie, is planning to drown herself. The teenage son, Mark, is high on drugs and ten-year-old Ernie is nearly catatonic. This is the worst vacation ever.
Anne manages to pull things together bit by bit, but just as they begin feeling like a family again, something catastrophic happens. Survival may be the least of their concerns.
Written with the blistering pace and shocking twists that only James Patterson can master, SAIL takes "Lost" and "Survivor" to a new level of terror.

Decent enough 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

So, this book didn't captivate me from the start. Ultimately all of the failings I see with this book can be taken as failings of the main character and narrator. He tells us how shocking or exciting things are when they aren't that exciting, and he tries to sell us on his friends and family as being really good at things, when ultimately they are imaginary, brought to life by Daniel's powers.

However, if these failings are Daniel's, it's never addressed directly in this book, and my hope that these things would be addressed was what kept me reading.

I can not recommend this book. It is decent but not great (but not horrible either), and doesn't function as a particularly great scifi or superhero book.

Editorial Review:

The greatest superpower of all isn't to be part spider, part man, or to cast magic spells--the greatest power is the power to create.
Daniel X has that power.

Daniel's secret abilities -- like being able to manipulate objects and animals with his mind or to recreate himself in any shape he chooses -- have helped him survive. But Daniel doesn't have a normal life. He is the protector of the earth, the Alien Hunter, with a mission beyond what anyone's imagining.

From the day that his parents were brutally murdered before of his very eyes, Daniel has used his unique gifts to hunt down their assassin. Finally, with the help of The List, bequeathed to him in his parents' dying breath, he is closing in on the killer.

Now, on his own, he vows to take on his father's mission--and to take vengeance in the process.

Good but could've been better! 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I agree with other Patterson readers, plot was OK but it could've been better. Boxer with Conklin?? Please!! I don't think so. I was disappointed with this book, and lately with the Alex Cross ones. Hopefully Patterson's next book Cross or WMC is put together better, and not leaving me feel so "BLAH".

Editorial Review:

A terrible fire in a wealthy suburban home leaves a married couple dead and Detective Lindsay Boxer and her partner Rich Conklin searching for clues. And after California's golden boy, Michael Campion has been missing for a month, there finally seems to be a lead in his case--a very devastating lead.

As fire after fire consume couples in wealthy, comfortable homes, Lindsay and the Murder Club must race to find the arsonists responsible and get to the bottom of Michael Campion's disappearance. But suddenly the fires are raging too close to home.

Frightened for her life and torn between two men, Lindsay must find a way to solve the most daunting dilemmas she's ever faced--at work and at home.

A Sweet Adult Fairytale 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I thought this book a delightful adult fairytale. Make no mistake, while it is pure escape, it, nevertheless, is a feel good story. If you want reality, pick up the newspaper or turn on the TV news, because this little gem is not for you. If you want a quick, yet simple afternoon read, give it a try. It doesn't hurt to set aside reality for a few lazy hours and in the meantime, it just might even make you smile and lift your spirits. Nothing wrong with that.

Editorial Review:

As a little girl, Jane has no one. Her mother, the powerful head of a Broadway theater company, has no time for her. She does have one friend-a handsome, comforting, funny man named Michael-but only she can see him.

Years later, Jane is in her thirties and just as alone as ever. Then she meets Michael again-as handsome, smart and perfect as she remembers him to be. But not even Michael knows the reason they've really been reunited.

SUNDAYS AT TIFFANY'S is a love story with an irresistible twist, a novel about the child inside all of us-and the boundary-crossing power of love.

How did the publisher get so stupid as to accept this? 1 out of 5 stars.
10 of 13 people found this review helpful.

This book gets 1 star because I don't know how to review witout giving at least one. What happened to Patterson? He was never a deep writer, never will, I hope, rank as a writer of American classiscs, but this is far below his usual medocrity. Maybe it's the second author; maybe she is really the ghost writer of this novel.

Besides the plot being almost non-existent, the characters are mere cardboard cutouts unable to stand alone. There are apparently a number of books in the "Women's Murder Club" series. Possibly if one has read all of these the characters are more real. Such reading probably dulls the mind so that this book has no effect.

The "novel" has 136 chapters. Perfect for the attention deficit reader. The crimes covered by the heroine, a woman with two dimensions perfect for Hollywood or the tube, are neither connected to the "plot" nor the movement of the text.

Do I regret buying this used book for fifty cents to assuage my boredom while sitting in a hospital waiting room? No. What I regret is reading the whole thing (without the benefit of an Alka-seltzer). My only defense is I'm stubborn. If you can get this for less than a dollar and really need something to numb your mind go ahead and get this.

Editorial Review:

When a horrifying attack leaves one of the four members of the Women's Murder Club struggling for her life, the others fight to keep a madman behind bars before anyone else is hurt. And Lindsay Boxer and her new partner in the San Francisco police department run flat-out to stop a series of kidnappings that has electrified the city: children are being plucked off the streets together with their nannies--but the kidnappers aren't demanding ransom. Amid uncertainty and rising panic, Lindsay juggles the possibility of a new love with an unsolvable investigation, and the knowledge that one member of the club could be on the brink of death. And just when everything appears momentarily under control, the case takes a terrifying turn, putting an entire city in lethal danger. Lindsay must make a choice she never dreamed she'd face--with no certainty that either outcome has more than a prayer of success.

Review for You've been Warned - James Patterson 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

What a fabulous book - I simply loved it. Mr. Patterson always knows how to tell a great story and keep you turning those pages on the edge of your seat. Prior to buying this book, I had read a few reviews of other customer's who said they hated the book. However I have read James Patterson books for many years and I could not believe those bad reviews. I decided to find out for myself and I am glad I did. This is true to form Patterson, well written, suspenseful with plently of twists, and at the end I think - a moral lesson for us all. Don't play with fire because you will get burned and burn innocent people too. Another winner from James Patterson.

Cross keeps getting pulled back in 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Alex Cross has been trying to live a more stable life for his children, and for his mental health. However, when a twisted killer - the Audience Killer - who lives for the attention granted by his killings starts to stalk the city, Alex is drawn back in. This killer stages his killings as a macabre form of public amusement both at the scene and on a website and taunts the police with his success.

In Colorado, Kyle Craig has plotted for years in order to set up a complex escape plan. Craig wants one thing - to get back at Alex Cross, the man who put him away. And if he needs to join forces with the Audience Killer to do this, that's just fine with him.

Can Alex solve the crimes in time to save himself, and his family? A thriller that will keep you turning the pages. Don't miss it!

Editorial Review:

Just when Alex thought his life was calming down into a routine of patients and therapy sessions, he finds himself back in the game--this time to catch a criminal mastermind like no other. A spate of elaborate murders in Washington D.C. have the whole East Coast on edge. They are like nothing Alex Cross and his new girlfriend, Detective Brianna Stone, have ever seen. With each murder, the case becomes increasingly complex. There's only one thing Alex knows: the killer adores an audience. As victims are made into gruesome spectacles citywide, inducing a media hysteria, it becomes clear to Alex that the man he's after is a genius of terror--and he's after fame. The killer has the whole city by its strings--and he'll stop at nothing to become the most terrifying star that Washington D.C. has ever seen.
