Editorial Review:

A young girl is killed in the crossfire after a routine arrest goes terribly wrong, and Lt. Lindsay Boxer has to defend herself against a charge of police brutality. In a landmark trial that transfixes the nation, Lindsay fights to save her career and her sanity.
While awaiting trial, Lindsay escapes to the tranquility of the beautiful town of Half Moon Bay. But the peaceful community there is reeling from a string of unspeakable murders. Working with her friends in the Women's Murder Club, Lindsay finds a link between these killings and a case she worked on years before - an unsolved murder that has haunted her ever since. As summer comes into full swing, Lindsay battles for her life on two fronts: before a judge and jury as her trial comes to a climax and facing unknown adversaries who will do anything to keep her from the truth about the killings. It all comes to a head before the big annual 4th of July celebration on the waterfront at Half Moon Bay.

READ THIS BOOK 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Well the title of the series, "Maximum Ride," basically sums up the book for you: the main character's name is Maximum Ride, and her life is a maximum ride.
Maximum Ride and her 'siblings' are 98% human, 2% bird. Half-human, half-wolf creaures called Erasers' life's work is to hunt them down.
This book defines "action-packed."
You may think that this is a long read because of its number of pages, four-hundred and something I think, but the short chapters make it a fast read. I myself am a very slow reader, but I read this surprisingly fast.
If you don't feel like clipping your nails, I'm warning you, they'll be shorter before you know it from reading this book.
I don't think that there was one part in this book that bored me.
I haven't read book two of Maximum Ride, but I can't wait!!!!!!
If the rest of this series is as good as the first book, this will be an amazing series.
READ THIS BOOK. JUST READ IT. Thank me later.

A 5-star listen for Young Adults 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is the second installment of the Maximum Ride series, picking up right after The Angel Experiment. I would suggest you listen to them in order to avoid any confusion in the plotline.

Maximum Ride: Schools out Forever starts right where The Angel Experiment left off, continuing with the six genetically engineered children being chased by their main enemies, the Erasers, a wolf/human hybrid. Max, Fang, Iggy, Gasman, Nudge and Angle continue to evade the predators in each city they visit. Max continues to be plagued by the death of their main Eraser pursuer named Ari, who might or might not be her biological brother. She also continues to hear the Voice in her head, and is confused as to who or what it is.

Along the way, they meet a seemingly kind woman, who just happens to be a high-ranking FBI agent, who enrolls them in a normal school where Max feels as though she's an outcast. Max and her fellow winged children end up releasing a bunch of other genetically altered animals onto the city, which doesn't go very far, except they adopt a dog that Angel has become attached to. He seems like your normal, run-of-the-mill puppy, until he opens his mouth and talks! You will enjoy the story and become enthralled in narrator Valentina De Angelis' portrayal of each individual child... including the dog! She did a beautiful job of putting emotion and feeling behind the key points in the story. I also enjoyed the sound effects and musing during the telling of the tale. The only negative thing about this listening experience was the music. I couldn't tell if it was the end of the disc or the end of a chapter.

Overall, it was a wonderful listening experience!

Armchair Interviews says: Another good listen for Young Adults.

Editorial Review:

"Adventure, fighting, backstabbing and love abound" (VOYA) in this action-packed follow-up to the #1 New York Times blockbuster MAXIMUM RIDE: THE ANGEL EXPERIMENT, now available in paperback. The heart-stopping quest of six winged kids--led by fourteen-year-old Max--to find their parents and investigate the mind-blowing mystery of their ultimate destiny continues when they're taken under the wing of an FBI agent and attempt, for the first time, to live "normal" lives. But going to school and making friends doesn't stop them from being relentlessly hunted by sinister spies, who lead Max to face her most frightening match yet: a new and better version of herself.

One of Patterson's Worst 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I am a huge James Patterson fan. He writes great, snappy books; vivid yarns, fun characters and great dialog . But if "Black Friday" had been the first book of his I'd read, I'd have never picked up an other one.

We should all be very happy that Patterson has learned from his early efforts. Indeed, were I he, I'd pay my publisher to recall and burn every copy. It's that awful.

If you have any grasp of reality and want to remain a Patterson fan, DO NOT READ IT! (I have given it one star because no star is not an option.)

Editorial Review:

The breathtaking suspense of Kiss the Girls and the authenticity of N.Y.P.D. Blue: Welcome to James Patterson's classic superthriller, BLACK FRIDAY. A courageous federal agent, a powerful and resourceful woman lawyer - only they can possibly stop the unspeakable from happening. New York City is under siege by a secret militia group - and that's just the beginning of the relentless terror of BLACK FRIDAY.

Originally published in 1987 as Black Market, also by James Patterson.

Editorial Review:

Talk about a change of pace! Renowned suspense writer and Edgar Award winner James Patterson, author of such bestsellers-turned-blockbuster-movies as Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls, exposes his sensitive side in his new novel, Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas. Katie Wilkinson's boyfriend Matt dumps her; not a total cad, he leaves her a gift, a diary kept by Suzanne, his first wife, for their son Nicholas. Though it's not exactly the diamond ring Katie was hoping for, she's unable to make herself destroy the diary--against her better judgment, Katie begins to read.

Drawn against her will into the other woman's world, Katie learns of physician Suzanne's heart attack at age 35 and her decision to slow down, accomplished by a move to Martha's Vineyard and a new job as a simple country doctor. When love comes knocking, in the form of housepainter-cum-poet Matt Harrison, Suzanne is ready to listen to her newly repaired heart. Though painful for Katie, she begins to know and like Suzanne and her infant son Nicholas. Suzanne's devotion to Matt and their son shines through, as well as her plainspoken wisdom. While the journal helps Katie understand Matt, whether they can write a future together remains in question. --Alison Trinkle

FBI agent Alex Cross is on vacation with his family at Disneyland when he gets a call from the Director. A well-known actress was shot outside her home in Beverly Hills. Shortly afterward, an editor for the Los Angeles Times receives an e-mail describing the murder in vivid detail. Alex quickly learns that this is not an isolated incident. The killer, known as Mary Smith, has done this before and plans to kill again. Right from the beginning, this case is like nothing Alex has ever confronted. Is this the plan of an obsessed fan or a spurned actor, or is it part of something much more frightening? And particularly baffling, how could a woman be capable of these vicious crimes? Members of Hollywoods A-list fear theyre next on Marys list, and the case grows by blockbuster proportions as the LAPD and FBI scramble to find a pattern before Mary can send one more chilling update. Filled with the ruthless and shocking twists that make his fans hunger for more, MARY, MARY is James Pattersons most sophisticated thriller yet.

Editorial Review:

Bestselling author James Patterson returns with the #1 blockbuster thriller of the summer, an unstoppable novel of law and revenge.

Senior FBI agent Nick Pellisante is closing in on the notorious mob boss "The Electrician," when the scheduled sting goes spectacularly awry. Two FBI agents are dead, the boss is wounded, and Pellisante vows the Electrician's next move will be from a jail cell.

Andie Echeverra, a part-time actress and a single, full-time mom, is assigned her next role as Juror #11 in the landmark trial against Mafia Don Dominic Cavello. Everybody is on edge. No one has ever crossed the man whose orders have made entire families disappear.

Though Cavello's influence extends across blue uniforms and black robes, the case should be open-and-shut. But the legal system fails with devastating results, and Nick and Andie are the only ones left to seek justice. To stop the Electrician, they must take matters into their own hands. They are the judge and jury now.

James Patterson spins an all-out heart-pounding legal thriller that pits two people against the most vicious and powerful mobster since John Gotti.

This is not one of my favorites. Even though it was not that well written it still kept my attention. The plot involves a singer Maggie Bradford who is on trial for the murder of Will Shepard who was famous in the athletic world. The plot thickens when it appears that she may have murdered two husbands. Is she a Black Widow? Pick it up you will like it. I cannot say enough good about this one, and I rarely dish out 5 star ratings. The perspectives of the characters are so well done. The ending is the absolute best, I read the last few pages over and over just to get that creepy feeling along my spine over and over again. EXCELLENT!!!

Editorial Review:

Maggie Bradford, the devoted mother of two children and one of the world's most beloved singer/songwriters, seems to have everything anyone could want, except that she is now on trial for the murder of both of her husbands, in a novel of unrelenting suspense. Reprint.

Editorial Review:

James Patterson's Cradle and All pits the intensity of faith against the certainties of science within an arena of Millennial tensions. A reworking of his 1980 apocalyptic thriller Virgin, this remodeled version boasts a genuinely unnerving premise, amplified with Patterson's fast-paced, uncluttered prose.

In the midst of a series of unexplained plagues and famines, two teenage girls are heavily pregnant, despite being virgins. According to the sacred prophecies of Fatima, one will bear the child of Christ and the other, the spawn of Satan. Both Anne Fitzgerald, a former nun turned private detective, and the Vatican's Father Rosetti are sent to investigate. But which girl carries which child? The possibility of a miracle will be tainted with great suffering before the awful, unexpected truth is revealed. As the action moves speedily from the hallowed halls of the Vatican to the media frenzy of America to the small-town hysteria of Ireland, Patterson divines considerable suspense from the novel's central premise, tackling issues of faith with admirable aplomb:

"All over the world, after all the years of difficulty, decades of diminishing spirituality, so many people still believed.... Everywhere, people talked of the Apocalypse, perhaps the end of the world. Which explained why so many people were suddenly going to church."

A relentless pace culminating in a superbly twisted ending won't disappoint Patterson's faithful followers, and may even convert some new members. --Danny Graydon
