Book with no Words 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book for a 4 year old niece who loves to tell the story of a book, even if the book comes with a written story. She loves the ocean so this fits into her life experience just perfectly. Wonderful pictures.

Editorial Review:

A bright, science-minded boy goes to the beach equipped to collect and examine flotsam--anything floating that has been washed ashore. Bottles, lost toys, small objects of every description are among his usual finds. But there's no way he could have prepared for one particular discovery: a barnacle-encrusted underwater camera, with its own secrets to share . . . and to keep.

In each of his amazing picture books, David Wiesner has revealed the magical possibilities of some ordinary thing or happening--a frog on a lily pad, a trip to the Empire State Building, a well-known nursery tale. This time, a day at the beach is the springboard into a wildly imaginative exploration of the mysteries of the deep, and of the qualities that enable us to witness these wonders and delight in them.

Good 5 out of 5 stars.

Good book. It's one of the older George stories and drawings, not one of the newer George stories and drawings.

Splash! The aquarium is a big place for a little monkey, and there is so much to see. George's curiosity soon helps him to make lots of penguin friends . . . and lots of trouble! The paperback edition includes educational fun facts about aquariums and sea life, provided by the director of the Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, Connecticut. Rhymes seemed insipid 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Fuzzy Bee has better rhymes and textures. The turtle wasn't even squishy. Five out of the 7 pages have the same satiny material, including a tiny piece of ribbon which shows water coming out of the whale hole. I expected more subtle and enchanting rhymes. It has the same elements as Fuzzy Bee so my 2 month still enjoys it.

I LOVE these cloth books 5 out of 5 stars.

My grandson drags these books with him everywhere. He opens the book and point to the animals and repeats the animal names and feels the "touch and feel" portion of the animal. He even snuggles some of them. The book is made well, the pictures are really cute and there is just enough to get him interested without boring him (at only 1 1/2 years old). We read other books at bed time, but these books get read and played with all day, in the car, on our walks to the park...
I wish I would have gotten a lot more of these earlier, instead of the board books he chews on, and saved the board books for later.

Editorial Review:

-Ideal for babies and toddlers.-Textured fabrics and bright colors help to develop children's sensory awareness.-Rhyming text helps kids improve their listening skills.

A little complex for a 6 year old 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 4 people found this review helpful.

These books are very complex. A lot of little "notations" accros the pages. My daughter is a little overwhelmed by it. More suitable for an 8 or 9 year old

Another delightful adventure on the magic schoolbus 5 out of 5 stars.

The magical Ms. Frizzle takes her class to the ocean in "The Magic School Bus on the Ocean Floor." The bus transforms itself as needed, from a submarine to a surfboard and the class clothing changes with it from scuba gear to Ms. Frizzle's beachball sandels. The bus travels the continental shelf to the deep ocean floor and on to tropical coral reefs, with numerous excursions for children to examine the details.

The illustrations are filled with facts, labeled wildlife and wise-cracking children. The information is easy to swallow as well as interesting and the humor relies on lame sarcasm and a silly lifeguard -- kids should love it.

Editorial Review:

Joanna Cole, Illustrations Bruce Degen. "Cole and Degen continue to hone their unique mix of humor, fact, and sound teaching technique... This book captures readers." -Publishers Weekly, starred review. Paperback.

Wow! What An Amazing Book! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have seen many different pop-up books in my life, but this "Predators" Pop-up book is in another level! My kids love it! My daughter even said repeatedly, "This is a perfect book, thanks daddy!" In sum:

1. Pop-ups are done in 3-D. You must see it for yourself to appreciate it. You could tell, they gave much thought into this (a lot of moving parts). What a marvel! My favorite 3-D animal was the "Crocodile" that pops out from the page! Amazing. Highly colorful and well illustrated.
2. The pop-ups are accompanied with interesting facts about the animals making it very educational and fun. By reading and explaining the information to my kids, they seemed to retain and relate with other facts better.
3. There are only total of FIVE animals in the pop-up book: Spider, Bald Eagle, Crocodile, Tiger, and Polar Bear. But within the each animal, several types of the animal are discussed.
4. The book is sturdy and glued. While it is strong, pop-ups at times do fall out from the connecting slots (but easily fixable) - because it is in 3-D there are several moving paper-parts.

Overall, it is an excellent book! If your kids love pop-up books, then they will REALLY love this one! Highly recommended!

Editorial Review:

Get up close and personal with some of the world's most terrifying and dangerous predators! Amazing 3-D pop-ups swing off the page, bringing to life spiders, polar bears, crocodiles, and more! Filled with interesting facts and vibrant artwork, Predators! takes readers on an interactive and imaginative journey into the wild!

This paper-over-board book has innovative, swinging pop-ups. Packaged in a resealable polybag with sell sheet. Foil-stamping on cover.

A must for your pop-up collection 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I'm an avid pop up collector (or my little boy is, but I get as excited as he does when we get another one) and this is as wonderful as the other Sabuda books. It's holding up well even though I have to pretend to attack my son whenever we get to the huge set of shark jaws; these books are not as fragile as you'd think.

Editorial Review:

Just when you thought it was safe to go in the water! The second astonishing ENCYCLOPEDIA PREHISTORICA book from Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart is about to pop up everywhere.

While dinosaurs patrolled the lands, massive prehistoric sharks, giant scorpions, and colossal squid cruised the ancient oceans - most with just one thing in mind: eat or be eaten. In this companion volume to the best-selling ENCYCLOPEDIA PREHISTORICA: DINOSAURS, pop-up masters Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart explore the prehistoric underwater world, where monsters like megalodon ruled the waves.

Full of captivating facts and more than 35 breathtaking pop-ups, this incredible volume is sure to astonish and amaze everyone from budding marine biologists to confirmed landlubbers. After all, if prehistoric coelacanths and crocodiles are still around, what else might be lurking in today's largely unexplored oceans?

Excellent first book about space... 5 out of 5 stars.
43 of 43 people found this review helpful.

What a GREAT book! I was looking for a book for my 3 1/2 year old that would introduce him to space in a simple way, "What's Out There" is exactly what I wanted. He is so captivated by this book, it is short, simple and easy to understand. It is perfect for him now and will be for the next several years. All of the basics are covered such as the 9 planets and their relation to the sun, how the earth travels around the sun and spins, the moon, gravity, the make-up of all the planets, asteroids etc. Each topic is explained in a fun and easy way for a child to understand and the illustrations are wonderful. Highly recommend as a first book about space!

not worthy 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I am kind of disappointed at this book. The illustration is dull. The words are plain.

Not very appealing for preschoolers or 1-2 graders, while it is too simple for a savvy reader. I would not recommend it for either gifts or self use.

Editorial Review:

What is the sun made of? What causes night and day? Why does the moon change shape? Colorful collage illustrations and an easy-to-understand text bring planets, stars, comets, and the wondrous things out there in space right down to earth in a simple introduction to the solar system for young armchair astronauts. Full color.

Extremely high quality content, well-organized and presented 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I tend not to review a lot of children's book, however, this particular one warranted a complete review. As a former biology major and research scientist, I can say that this book presents a lot of good, accurate and interesting facts about sharks and isn't just fluff. It also has a glossary of terms and presents the content in imaginative and engaging ways.

For a time, I was a director of education and I understand that there are different types of learners, this book appeals to them all using text, puzzles, mazes, crosswords and other ways to present and reinforce concepts. However, it is in no way sterile or devoid of fun. In other words, it's not like a highly structured book that would be put together by an adult who doesn't have a lot of experience with kids.

This book will be FUN and EDUCATIONAL. The folks who put this together hand kids in mind and they did a wonderful job of targeting to the 9-12 age group. You can buy this for about $6.00 new and as low as $0.29 cents used. At either price, this is a bargain and will return hours of fun and education. I also like how it supports raising consciousness around these animals that for the most part endangered and about the environment in general.

Songs to read books. 5 out of 5 stars.

My sister is a principal and highly recommeded this book for my grandchildren. THey love to read and sing so what better gift than to have it all wrapped into one.

Great book! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is great even if you don't know the music. My little guy 'reads' along while listening to the Raffi CD, but you don't need the CD to enjoy the book. The pictures are terrific for the child and adult. My son insists on reading this every night at bedtime, and that's okay with me!

gift for new mom's or mom's to be 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I love this book and the accompaning CD. My grandsons who are now 13 had this book when they were infants, and were still singing the songs when they were 5. I gave it as a gift to my God Daughter, and this one was a gift for my first Great Grandson. Raffi writes stories and songs that children should grow up with. I am positive I will give this book and CD again.

Wondefully illustrated 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

While the song is adorable and the pages are nice and sturdy, what I really like about this book are the illustrations. They are vibrant and clear and my son loves looking at this book over and over again. He is 16 months, so it is easy for him to point out animals and ask what they are. I like how the whale goes from being a baby, to a larger whale in the book and how different pages are shown with different perspectives. One page has a view from where the bird is flying in the sky--so the bird is large and the whale is small because he is swimming in the sea below. Another page has a broad view of the icebergs, sea, sky and northern lights. I am very impressed with the clarity and creativity of the illustrations in this book--and of course the song itself is fun to sing!

    Editorial Review:

Raffi's signature song and the top seller in his Songs to Read series, Baby Beluga is now available in a quality board book edition perfect for his youngest fans.
