Not one of his better books 1 out of 5 stars.

I am a huge Patterson fan, however this is the first book of his that I have ever read (25 read so far) that I did not enjoy. It jumps around so much it is hard to follow and confusing when it ends.

James Patterson Thomas Berryman 1 out of 5 stars.

Very poor quality not as stated pages just bearly hanging in well used not as stated. Very dissappointed. Review not on the book but the seller. Book as always James Patterson never fails...

Loss of life book not main character 1 out of 5 stars.

I cannot believe Mr. Patterson in any way participated in authoring this book. It was very poorly written and dull. the characters and plot were shallow and underdeveloped despite the length of the book. I am an avid Patterson reader but I wasted my time and money on this one.

Not typical Patterson 1 out of 5 stars.

I have read all of the Alex Cross series, and all of the Women's Murder Club. I have read Honeymoon, Lifeguard, Step on a Crack, Judge and Jury, Beach Road, Beach House, and am working on Black Friday (market). All that being said, I loved them all, Honeymoon probably standing out as one of the best....I did not like Thomas Berryman Number. I have yet to read a Patterson book I have not liked until now. I did finish it, but it was difficult to do. I do not advise anyone to read this book if you are used to fast paced, interesting thrillers. This one is not.

Editorial Review:

Three terrifying murders in the South culminate in a relentless manhunt in the North that centers on a ruthless assassin, the woman he loves, and the beloved leader he is hired to kill with extreme prejudice. Reprint. NYT. LJ.

Editorial Review:

One of James Patterson's best loved heroines is about to die. Detective Lindsay Boxer is jogging along a beautiful San Francisco street when a fiery explosion rips through the neighborhood. A town house owned by an Internet millionaire is immediately engulfed in flames, and when Lindsay plunges inside to search for survivors, she finds three people dead. An infant who lived in the house cannot be found - and a mysterious message at the scene leaves Lindsay and the San Francisco Police Department completely baffled. Then a prominent businessman is found murdered under bizarre circumstances, with another mysterious message left behind by the killer. Lindsay asks her friends Claire Washburn of the medical examiner's office, Assistant D.A. Jill Bernhardt, and Chronicle reporter Cindy Thomas to help her figure out who is committing these murders-and why they are intent on killing someone every three days. Even more terrifying, the killer has targeted one of the four friends who call themselves the Women's Murder Club. Which one will it be? While the investigation rages furiously, Lindsay works very closely with a federal officer assigned to the case. At the same time, she learns that one member of the Women's Murder Club is hiding a secret so dangerous and unbelievable that it could destroy them all.

Enjoyable, but not his best 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

A re-pub of a previous work, the adventure that Arch Carroll takes us on is thrilling and fast, but not nearly has engaging as Alex Cross's feats. I wasn't sure who I wanted to success here because I didn't have a good understanding of what motivated the characters. I attribute the lack of character development to very short chapters (some fewer than 3 pages) and the need to focus on getting everyone into the sack as soon as possible. If you are a Patterson fan, then by all means purchase this book. If not, then you would be better off choosing one of his later works.

Don't even steal this book. Pathetic 1 out of 5 stars.

No research, No knowledge of economics or the stock market.
Not a clue about anything but the names of weapons. Other than the fact that guns go bang, he knows nothing about them.

What color is the beret worn by the Army Special Forces? Is it blood red? The author thinks it is.

All seeing enemies with perfect knowledge. Henchmen who do this stuff for what reason? This stuff went out with the yellow peril in the thirties.

The main villian, who can plan this so called perfect crime, does a Robin Hood which would never get by the worst IRS auditor in the world.

This thing reads like the plot of a really bad third rate action thriller movie. You know the kind, with the star who is famous for 15 minutes for some other activity, like some ex jock.

The plot looks like someone found this book and decided that with a lot more work and some actual knowledge they could make a Die Hard movie.

Thrilled to have this one available 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

There are a few reasons you should read this book. First, it is likely you will get a taste of the writings of authors you otherwise would not have ever tried.
Second, there are variations here on what defines a "thriller." Don't be prejudiced by your own definition of the term -- read these with an open mind to possibilities.
Third, if your life is as hectic as mine, it is great to be able to dip in for 20 or 30 minutes and enjoying a complete quality story; there are many of them in this collection.
Finally, many reviewers here write about how the collection was weak except for... and then they name the few stories they think were best. Peruse the reviews and you will see they are not all the same few stories... all in all, most of the stories were enjoyed by someone here! Which is to say that the lower ratings are because of TASTE, not QUALITY. Enjoy the breadth, indulge in your favorites, and don't be deterred by the selective ratings of the reviewers here.
A quality anthology -- can't wait for Vol 2!!

Well-paced plot with some loose ends 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This well-paced, entertaining thriller pits two seasoned role-players against each other: John O'Hara, undercover FBI agent, and Nora Sinclair, charming serial killer. Nora, thin and gorgeous, with expensive, discerning tastes, is the type of woman men dream of seducing. She's witty and fun, and wealthy men cannot help falling for her. And fall they do - literally - as Nora has a method of murder that escapes detection. When John O'Hara is assigned to her case, life for both gets complicated as the two jockey for information, never certain what the other knows. Told from the alternating points-of-view, the novel delves into the psychology of both characters, allowing the reader to know more than they do, which makes for great suspense. (The audio version is read by two actors, one male and one female, which increases the sense of characters at cross-purposes.)

This book makes a great beach or vacation book - except for the end, which fails to address certain points brought up earlier in the novel. The brand-name dropping gets tedious at times (trust me, you'll be able to recite the kind of water Nora drinks, the model of car she drives, and the list of contemporary thriller writers her mother likes to read.) And the plot twists seem manufactured instead of natural. Despite these flaws, Patterson and co-author Roughan cook up a sometimes steamy, sometimes harrowing tale of murder and intrigue.

Readers of thrillers will enjoy this, although it's not one of those books that sticks with you. The fast-paced plot and the two points-of-view keep readers turning the pages, hungry for what happens next.

Different kind of novel from Patterson 4 out of 5 stars.

This is a story of revenge against the Nazis for the Holocaust. Or is it? Very interesting, exciting and sometimes down right scarey. A real page turner.
