Fun Books 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I purchased these books for my eight year old daughter. We read all of them already. She loved them, and so did I. I was a little disappointed that there were no pictures at all. In the older version, there were some very beautiful pictures that helped bring understanding to some of the concepts of being a pioneer. Overall, this was a great purchase.

A Magical Wonderland 2 out of 5 stars.

"They're an inspirational source of literature that celebrates the turn of the century, the struggle of the American family and the bonds that held them together."

These books are straight garbage, a friend got them for me and they stink...I could totally pWn Pa Ingall's IRL.

Josh's review 4 out of 5 stars.

Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder is a whole series of books about a girl named Laura Ingalls Wilder. The books talk about some of the hardships Laura and her family faced. These books also tell about every thing that happened in her life from Wisconsin all the way to Kansas. The story of her life starts as a young girl and talks about her getting married as a young lady. The books tell how she changed and some of the places she went and even some of the people she met.
I like these books because the way these books were written because they were written so you fell like you are actually there. I also like these books because they tell what people had to go through in the 1800's. I read all these books and I liked them. If you read them you will like them too.

Editorial Review:

The original nine Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, featuring their fresh new photographic look, are available together in an attractive box set, just in time for the 75th Anniversary!

A child is humanity's last best hope 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

An alien species has twice attacked earth and nearly destroyed humanity, and now a third war is fast approaching. The hero of this story is a young boy with extraordinary military gifts. Ender Wiggin has a natural ability to plan and carry out strategy in three-dimensional space, but along with this, Ender has another, rarer quality: the right balance of empathy and self-sacrifice that enable him to act in the service of humanity (rather than himself), combined with a ruthlessness to do whatever is necessary to win not only the present war, but all future wars as well. (This is in contrast to his siblings, both of whom share Ender's remarkable strategic abilities; but while Ender's brother is cruel and sociopathic, his sister is soft-hearted, and neither would make a suitable soldier.)

Ender is removed from his family at the age of six and sent to the multi-national Battle School, where along with mundane subjects like math and history, students plan and act out mock battles in gravity-free chambers. Ender rises through the ranks more quickly than the other boys, making friends and enemies along the way, and graduates to Command School not a day too soon (and possibly, he is told, a few years too late). At Command School, the battle games reach a new level, and the eleven-year-old Ender learns that he is humanity's last best hope. (Meanwhile, back on earth, nations are threatening one another with war, and Ender's remarkable adolescent siblings are hatching a plot to rule the world.)

From this point the story moves fast, taking some interesting turns and revealing some suprises, as Ender learns the about the true nature of the war he is about to enter, and the alien species he must fight. The ending is all at once tragic and hopeful, horrific and ironic.

Editorial Review:

Ender Wiggin is Battle School's latest recruit. His teachers reckon he could become a great leader. And they need one. A vast alien force is headed for Earth, its mission: the annihilation of all human life. Ender could be our only hope. But first he must survive the most brutal military training program in the galaxy...With its explosive storyline, pump-action excitement and hugely engaging central characters, Ender's Game is 2002's absolute must-read for teenaged boys. Forget schools for wizards, this is where the *real* action is.

Hypocritical 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 17 people found this review helpful.

Dr. Seuss, turned holier-than-thou by his elevated status in society, decides to preach to us about the evils of industrialization. Does he realize that the many millions of copies of "The Lorax" were all made in factories, using paper that came from trees?

Imagine 5 out of 5 stars.

The Dr.'s Inspiring Masterpiece 5 out of 5 stars.

Review by Sherry North, Author, Because You Are My Baby

While most Dr. Suess stories are pure fun without any heavy message, The Lorax delivers an extremely blunt lesson on ecology. What's amazing is that Dr. Suess does this with a narrative that is engaging, entertaining and ultimately inspiring. You might think a book with such a heavy message could be a turn-off to young children, but I have found the opposite. My preschoolers find this story absorbing. I think they understand there is something truly important at stake, so the book means more to them than other Dr. Suess titles.

Editorial Review:

Long before saving the Earth became a global concern, Dr. Seuss, speaking through the Lorax, warned against mindless progress and the danger it posed to the planet's natural beauty. Now Seuss's classic cautionary tale is available in an irresistible mini-edition--just perfect for backpack or briefcase. Full color.

Thank you for the Purplicious! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

After reading all reviews I ordered the book for my 'almost 4' years old daughter. I was not disappointed. The book is beautiful, not 'too long' and to the point. My daughter agreed that other girls were not nice to Pinkalicious, was supporting Pinkalicious all the way thru the book and telling that she loves Pink too and was very happy when Pinkalicious finally found a good friend.

A Wonderful Book! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I absolutely LOVED the message of this book. It shows that you should always be yourself and not follow trends or peer pressure. I must admit that I read this one before Pinkalicious, so maybe coming into it without expectation, I viewed it as a wonderful teaching tool on how children should be true to themselves (a theme that shows up often in my own work.)

In real life, the mean kids may not change. The only thing children can change is their view of themselves, which this book underscores.

So, yay for Purplelicious! A wonderful title to add to my collection!

Editorial Review:

It's purple Pinkalicious!

Pinkalicious loves the color pink, but all the girls at school like black. They tease her, saying that pink stinks and pink is for babies. But Pinkalicious doesn't think so…that is, until her friends stop playing with her. Now Pinkalicious has a case of the blues. But could she ever turn her back on her favorite color?

In the follow-up to the bestselling Pinkalicious, a young girl remains true to herself and discovers that pink isn't only a pretty color, but also a powerful one.

In Poor Taste 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I'm surprised by the glowing reviews this book got. I really thought it was a terrible diservice to "aspie" people. The boy seems to not care about anyone and the adults in this book are all totally screwed up. I don't like the connection that people are bound to make that the parents of children with autism can't handle the complex life they have been given. While well written in a literary sense, this book leaves you sad and feeling as though people are truly pathetic. Not a good read at all and not at all a true vision of what autism really looks like.

Curiouser & Curiouser 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book takes the reader into a different world--the world that seems the same as our world, only this child sees the information in another dimension. The character, Christopher Boone, takes the reader into the world of autism. I am currently using this book with an 8th grade reading group, and we are reading it aloud. Reading the book aloud brings the difference in thinking and processing and the humor and pathos to the table. The kids are fascinated by the out-of-the-norm way this character views the world. To them, it is a mystery how this child thinks and functions in our fast-paced society. I highly recommend this mystery for children and adults.

Editorial Review:

It’s 50 years before the settlement of the city of Ember, and the world is in crisis. War looms on the horizon as 11-year-old Nickie and her aunt travel to the small town of Yonwood, North Carolina. There, one of the town’s respected citizens has had a terrible vision of fire and destruction. Her garbled words are taken as prophetic instruction on how to avoid the coming disaster. If only they can be interpreted correctly. . . .

As the people of Yonwood scramble to make sense of the woman’s mysterious utterances, Nickie explores the oddities she finds around town—her great-grandfather’s peculiar journals and papers, a reclusive neighbor who studies the heavens, a strange boy who is fascinated with snakes—all while keeping an eye out for ways to help the world. Is this vision her chance? Or is it already too late to avoid a devastating war?

In this prequel to the acclaimed The City of Ember and The People of Sparks, Jeanne DuPrau investigates how, in a world that seems out of control, hope and comfort can be found in the strangest of places.

Awesome gift for the 7-12 year old Pokemon fan in your life! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I have purchased at least 5 of these books and have given them as gifts to my children and their friends (ages 7-11). The instructions are easy to follow, the drawings are very authentic and kids love that they can draw some of their favorite characters. The ONLY down side, is that I wish it had a greater number of characters to draw. However, IMO it was a real steal for less than $5. All the children we've purchased these for have loved them. I keep an extra one just in case I've forgotten a birthday. You might want to buy an extra one too!

An ok book but not for teens 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I downloaded the audio version of this book after reading the reviews. I don't like reading books with a lot of cursing and sex in them so I have been sticking to the young adult section thinking it would be safer. So I was pretty shocked when I had only been listening to the book for about 10 minutes before the fist f-word was used. Maybe I'm a prude but I really hate that word and it and other words were used far to often in this book. The story was pretty good, it took me a while but I did get interested in it. But if I had teenage kids there is no way I would let them read this. The language is terrible and there is far to much sex talk. Most of the guys in the book are very inappropriate with the exception of Dmitry, he's pretty cool.

Editorial Review:

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Very cute 4 out of 5 stars.

We bought this to teach our son about Thanksgiving (he loves books) and he really liked it. It's a cute little book to read around the holidays especially since there aren't a lot of Thanksgiving books out there. I would recommend it to anyone.

Lovely concept, decent execution..bonus for multicultural illustrations 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Overall, I'd recommend this book. It's nice to have a Thanksgiving book to read to kids the brings in the Thanks-giving piece of Thanksgiving.

The things that are mentioned to be thankful for are things a kid would relate to -- mom and dad, grandma (other family), teacher, friends, their room, hot chocolate on a rainy day, dogs and cats to pet, favorite books, sunny days, lollipops that color tongues -- and of course days like Thanksgiving to be thankful with family. It's really very nice.

I could have done without something more interesting than the my parents "love me when I'm good...and even when I'm not" notion, especially because you have to get over to the facing page before you get to the facing page for the second part of that sentiment, and so for a second I thought -- This is a horrible book! But thank goodness they finished the thought, and it comes off more cute than objectionable.

The book does a great job with being somewhat multicultural, representing white families, Asian families as well as a black father reading to his daughter. And while they don't go as far as depicting any mixed-race families, they do show children of different races playing together on many pages. One caveat is that it isn't necessarily the best for divorced or even more so single-parent only or other "non-traditional" families, as it has a pretty early emphasis on being thankful for mom and dad, which a cute-cutesy drawing of mom/dad/kid on outing complete with balloons, basketball and ice cream.

All and all, I definitely recommend this as a sweet and inexpensive little Giving Thanks on Thanksgiving book if you don't have issues with the nuclear family thing. Enjoy!

Editorial Review:

Sure, Thanksgiving is about pilgrims and history-and turkey, of course!-but most importantly, it's a holiday all about everything that we are thankful for. Cheerful, colorful illustrations accompany the simple text in this celebration of family, friends, and the holiday that brings them all together.

Learn Your Lesson to Care About Your Family Too 5 out of 5 stars.

Knuffle Bunny is two of my students' favorite book. Check out their reviews below:

Learn Your Lesson to Care About Your Family Too

When Trixe went to the laundromat she put her Knuffle Bunny down to help her father. Knuffle Bunny was her favrite stuffed animal. Then they went back hom. Trixie noticed her Knuffle Bunny was gone. When she got home her mother said "Where's Knuffle Bunny!" Then they ran back ot the landromat. Then they found her. This book Knuffle Bunny is for people that only care for their stuffed animals.

I think that because Trixe got happier when she found her nuffle bunny, and shejumped up and down and screamed "nuffle bunny!"

Another reason I think that is because they had to run all the way back to the laundromat just because of Knuffle Bunny. Instead of just letting it wash, and she made her father hurt himself.

Another reason I think that is because she made her dad stick his head in the washing mashine while the mashine was still on.

If you only care about your stuffed animal, then get off your bottom and run to the library hury up before it closes "go...go...go!"

Trixie and Knuffle Bunny

Trixie goes to the laundromat with her dad. Trixie sees she does not have her bunny knuffle bunny. She started to cry and drag her feet. Then her dad saw the same thing she did not have Knuffle Bunny. Her dad helped her look for it he went crazzy for it. Then her dad looked and looked for the bunny in the wash. Then he found it. When trixie gets it out of the wash she screams Knuffle Bunny wich were her frist words. That is how I know Trixie loves her stuffed bunny Knuffle Bunny. And it is special to her.

One reason I know Trixie loves Knuffle Bunny is because she cries really loud when she does not have it. She also cries all the way to the hosue for him. She also would not leave the house with out Knuffle Bunny.

Another reason I know is because Trixie makes her dad look really hard. She talks Knuffle Bunny everywhere with her. That is how I know she loves Knuffle Bunny.

The last reason Trixie is excited when she gets Knuffle Bunny back. When Trixie got Knuffle Bunny, Trixie said her first words which were "Knuffle Bunny" because she loves him. Trixie is very excited when she gets her bunny back.

This is how I know Trixie loves Knuffle Bunny.

Editorial Review:

Trixie, Daddy, and Knuffle Bunny take a trip to the neighborhood Laundromat. But the exciting adventure takes a dramatic turn when Trixie realizes somebunny was left behind . . .

This 2005 Caldecott Honor book uses a combination of muted black-and-white photographs and expressive illustrations and tells a brilliantly true-to-life tale about what happens when Daddy’s in charge and things go terribly, hilariously wrong.
