For me, this is one of those books that you can read over and over and over, and even though you know the ending, you still can't put it down and you wish that maybe this time, there'll be a different ending.

I won't bother writing a detailed review about this book because I'd probably go on and on about it. I read it in my early teen years, and though it was never really relevant to my life (the setting, for one, is completely different from what I'm used to, and I was always somewhere in the middle of high school cliques - not on the outside, but not on the inside, either), but even then, I couldn't help but care deeply for each of the greasers. Ponyboy and his friends & family were flawed, but still likable, and they made me want the best for each of them.

Highly recommended. I can't say that enough.

A fantastic interpretation 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this for my 5-year old son 3 weeks ago and we haven't stopped listening to it. Roald Dahl has a beautifully warped view of the world, with parents killed tragically, evil aunts and innocent, precocious children. James is a wonderful example. Jeremy Irons brings real range to the interpretation of the characters, so we all - parents and child - find ourselves chuckling as we drive and listen (and will do for a long time to come). A treat for children (and their sainted parents also).

Ever been in a giant flying peach? James and the giant peach by Roald Dahl tells about a boy who's parents get eaten by a giant rhino, goes to live with his evil aunts, then rolls away in a giant peach. To begin, His parents take him to the London Zoo when only to encounter a loose rhinoceros. The rhino eats James' parents to leave him on the streets. Then, he goes to live with his evil aunts, Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge. They treat him very badly and don't let him play with other kids. Finally, an old man comes and gives James some magic crystals. Then a giant peach grows, James crawls in the peach to find some unusually large insects. They then roll away in a giant peach in hope of finding a better place.

Brian's winter by Gary Paulsen is great, suspenseful, intense, and enjoyable book. It is an awesome book especially if you like adventurous or survival books. In this book Brian endures many animals such as a skunk who he becomes very fond of her and names her Betty he also comes to face with wolves, deer, and the most dangerous one of them all a moose which attacked him during his hunt. Brian uses his knowledge of the wilderness to survive. He also uses his memories too help design bows, arrows, and even arrowheads. He got used too living in the wilderness so he worked on new hunting techniques. He also learned how too make his shelter more secure by packing the walls with mud making it water tight and nearly air tight. This is a great sequel to the book Hatchet. Brian is a great character considering he gives the book a lot of suspense. During the time Brian was in the woods he learned many useful things such as how to carve an animal which is a good thing considering he as improved his hunting skills. The book Brian's winter was a great book I would definitely recommend it to anyone who liked Hatchet or likes adventurous or survival books.

This is the story about the famous pig Wilbur, who was born tiny, but was saved by a little girl, Fern, and later saved by a spider named Charlotte.

Fern convinces her dad to let her take care of the tiny baby pig until he is big enough to go back into the barn. After he goes back into the barn, he still needs to be saved from being made into ham and bacon and sausage.

I loved the cozy barn life and the animals, and the relationship of Wilbur, Charlotte, Fern, Templeton, the sheep, and the geese.

I also loved the fair. I love fairs, so naturally, I loved this part of the book.

The first time I read this book was when I was thirteen. Back then, I really loved the book so much, and felt it was perfect and flawless. Since then, I saw bits and pieces of the movie when it came on tv (I'm not a tv or movie watcher).

I always knew I would eventually read the book again. I finally did. However, this time, I did not find it perfect and flawless. Although the storyline was still perfect and sweet, there were gross things in this book that did not bother me when I was thirteen. The older I get, the more sensitive I get. It's hard to believe I grew up in a farm/ranch situation and around "gross" things, but they didn't bother me back then; now I know I could never live on a farm again. That's why one star is missing; while I was reading this book, I couldn't eat or even think about eating - I'm that sensitive to "gross" things.

What an excellent book for a teen girl.(Not too young, though). I read this book when I was in school, way back when. It left such a profound effect on me that I still remember it to this day. I now work in a library and see girls checking it out all the time. We can't keep it on the shelf!!!

I read this book the first time in the early eighties. I was in my forties. Why would a forty-something year old lady read..."Are You There God? It's Me Margaret"...The answer being...I taught the performing arts to young ladies and some young gentlemen. I had a favorite student that had been with me for years, that brought the book in to me, as a gift. Why? Because...my name is Margaret!! The student was about 10 and she was so proud she had found a book that she did so enjoy reading, with my name as the main character. I thought...how sweet!! Did I read it? Of course...out of courtesy!! Did I like it? Absolutely...Very Much!! I associated with the novel. I am most sure many younger and older ladies have associated with this novel throughout the years. My parents moved when I was in the 5th grade. But...they moved back to where I had lived before. I thought my world would be wonderful again...just like before. But...like Margaret...surroundings and individuals change so quickly when one is so young, it is most difficult to understand all. In my case...it was if I had never been there. Old friendships had to be re-kindled. New friendships had to be made. Without God to talk with daily...what would I had done? He was my best friend. Just like Margaret I had a loving grandmother, that my brother and I spent each summer with. We had many conversations on the do's and don't of life. It was most difficult to understand what was expected of me and what I expected of others. Just like Margaret...I do not know how I would have managed without my conversations with God. Judy Blume, had to have associated her own young life, when writing this masterful novel. I never thought about the religious aspect of the book...as it was presented in such a well-received manner. I read this book to my son...(I never had a daughter)...when he was about 10 years of age. You know...when every young person...girl or boy, does start to ask all those necessary questions of life. This adorable little book answered many of those questions. He loved the book. Why have I read it again today...at this late time in my life? Well...here is the answer. I have finally...after many years....written my first book for the young reader. Judy Blume has presented all her books in such an outstanding way....I wanted to try to achieve some of the masterfulness she does display, when reaching her intended audience. Yes...Are You There God? It's Me Margaret...Will always hold a little part of my heart...as the young lady that gave it to me many years past...is still a dearing friend today. I went on to teach her daugther ballet, tap, and baton...just as I had her Mom. When Nikki (the young daughters name) was 10 years old, I gave her the copy that her Mom had given me many years ago. Recently...I ordered a new copy from Amazon...so I could re-fresh my mind with the beauty of Margaret's sweet escapades in..."Are You There God? It's Me Margaret. This is a classic. For Margaret, everything is different this year.  She's just moved from New York City to the suburbs and is anxious to fit in with her new friends--Nancy, Gretchen, and Janie.  When they form a secret club to talk about private subjects like boys, bras, and getting their first periods, Margaret is happy to belong.  But in Farbrook, everybody joins the Y or the Jewish Community Center.  Margaret doesn't have a religion, so what's she supposed to do?  Suddenly life is very confusing.  Maybe it's all part of growing up, but Margaret could really use some answers.

This book provides well-written insight into growing up as a black child during the Depression. Maya Angelou is wonderful with her use of words and imagery. I was greatly reminded of my own childhood and what being a kid really meant. Written in first person, she addresses childhood fears, respect for adults and growing up with such tangible details that she could be her eight-year-old self again.

Angelou's insights into the African-American way of life and religion during a time of national change range from tender to comical. She speaks warmly of her love for her brother and her frustration with the young white girls. It is sweet to see the growing up process taking affect and the experiences of youth shaping her character.

I am somewhat relieved that we were not permitted to read this book back in my high school literature class where many parents were opposed to it. I fear it would have caught me off guard in many respects. Many of the sexual themes running throughout the book are quite heavy and discussed in detail. Both the subjects of rape and teen pregnancy are covered and sex in general is frequently alluded to.

Though I do perceive this as a lovely piece of literature, I would be cautious in offering it to teens and others who may be unprepared for its impact.

The sea giveth...and the sea taketh away 5 out of 5 stars.

"The Old Man and the Sea" was Ernest Hemingway's last important work. Written in Cuba in 1951 and when published, it became one of his most recognize pieces. The work won him the Pulitzer prize in 1953 and the Nobel prize in literature in 1954.

This is the story of Santiago, a poor, humble Cuban fisherman who has been down on his luck for some time i.e. no catches lately. However on this day he ventures father out to sea than usual in his tiny skiff, and hooks the biggest Marlin he's ever seen. Thus the real story begins; a battle of epic proportions, drawn out over several days, between man and fish, man and the ocean, and man and himself.

What really impressed me about this short novel was Hemingway's ability to conjure a slowly increasing sense of foreboding and fear as his hero is dragged farther and farther off-shore by his immense 'prize'. With only himself to talk to and an ever dwindling supply of water and food there is something primordial about this situation that creeps into ones subconscious. In a great book the reader will usually identify in some way with the protagonist of a story, transferring some of the fears and anxieties of the hero into the reader, making for a more 'personal' and intense experience; this book is no exception.

Conclusion:
A short, spelling-binding tale that is beautifully written.

I originally read this work some time ago because, of all things, a crossword puzzle...The clue was, 'What book with six words in the title and each word having 3 letters, won a Pulitzer prize.' From there it was a mere formality that I had to read this intriguing work.
