Excellent 5 out of 5 stars.

If anyone finds this book offensive because they think Creflo Dollars concentrates too much on money and the trappings, then I suggest that you read the BIBLE and find that many people during that time were prosperous. He is only teaching from Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth which again is the BIBLE. It is excellent teaching for anyone who wants to get out of debt and live a more prosperous lifestyle. It's okay to be rich in all ways. If you can't deal with being rich, read The Courage to be Rich by Suze Orman it might be more to your liking because it's very technical instead of spirit filled. Dr. Dollar is for those who are filled with the spirit and have faith and belief that they "can and will" live better.

Editorial Review:

For many people, struggling from paycheck to paycheck is a way of life. Nearly all of their income is spent paying credit card bills, mortgages and car notes, a frustrating pattern with no apparent end in sight. When emergencies arise, they resort to borrowing more money or juggling bills just to make ends meet.

Excellent reference for christian business ethics 4 out of 5 stars.
17 of 17 people found this review helpful.

I am a Christian CEO in Hong Kong and have written a book review on this book for the Graduate Christian Fellowship a few months back. An excellent reference. Touched on many important and controversial issues including capitalism, bribery in third world, honesty, advertisement and marketing, etc. Presented many primary articles with balanced, provocative opinions from all sides. A book for the serious thinker. NOT FOR NEW CHRISTIAN BELIEVERS NOR FOR NON-BUSINESS PERSON. Only one criticism: the editors' own comments at the end of each chapter is a bit weak; not the same calibre as the 20-30 authors.

Mixed bag 4 out of 5 stars.

I have taught this book in a Christian-oriented Business Ethics college course aimed at working adult students.

This is a very professional work. There is an excellent selection of case studies, many of them of fairly recent vintage. There are great discussions of theoretical concepts including models of social involvement (from the likes of Friedman, Goodpaster, and Rivoli) and "groupthink."

The book falls short in the otherwise promising subtitle: A Judeo-Christian Approach to Business Ethics. Rae and Wong present a variety of different ethical approachs and find merit in nearly all of them. For instance, ethical egoism is found to be consistent with a Christian world view because, after all, each of us must be concerned with the future of our own soul. What we seem to get is a generally eclectic view of ethics. In the end, the authors give the greatest weight to virtue ethics. However, it is highly debateable whether this view properly characterizes the "Judeo-Christian approach." While concern for one's soul, virtues, etc., certainly are part of the Christian life, many Christian ethicists might characterize the overall approach in terms of a modified divine command theory. In any case, after laying out all these approaches, and picking their favorite, the authors fail to apply virtue ethics with any regularity to their subsequent commentaries and discussions.

In my class, students much preferred the other textbook we used: Richard C. Chewning, et al's "Business Through the Eyes of Faith." This is a very different kind of book from "Beyond Integrity," but it seemed to speak directly to the students' personal situations. We might have been better off using a standard secular text on ethics, together with Chewning et al. However, "Beyond Integrity" is the book to use if you must have a top-flight business text with a Christian point of view.

Few doubt that we need to raise the level of honesty and integrity in the workplace. Given that most Americans proclaim a belief in God, and at least pay lip service to the Bible and Christianity, it makes sense that we should be calling on our employers and employees to "walk the talk." Arguably, a properly practiced Judeo-Christian ethic can provide the resources to build a better business environment.

Editorial Review:

A revised, updated, improved edition of a groundbreaking textbook in Business Ethics that will fill the need for a textbook in Business Ethics for professors and students at Christian colleges and universities.

It's only communication if the message is received 3 out of 5 stars.
7 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I found the ideas in this book rather interesting. However, it's a tough book to get through. Greenleaf's writing style is difficult to follow, this is not an easy read. I would not recommend Servant Leadership to someone who is looking for quick practical advise on honing their leadership skills. In my opinion, this book is better suited to those who have an academic interest in the subject. Additionally, it's been ~30 years since this book was published, many of Greenleaf's ideas have filtered into more contemporary texts. I compare it to the music of Jimi Hendrix. While he is the brilliant innovator of a genre of music, 30 years later today's broad audience doesn't understand the context of his work, but can find and enjoy his influence in the music they relate to today.

Editorial Review:

Twenty-five years ago Robert Greenleaf published these prophetic essays on what he coined servant leadership, a practical philosophy that replaces traditional autocratic leadership with a holistic, ethical approach. This highly influential book has been embraced by cutting edge management everywhere. Yet in these days of Enron and what VISA CEO Dee Hock calls our "era of massive institutional failure," Greenleaf's seminal work must reach the mainstream now more than ever. Servant Leadership helps leaders find their true power and moral authority to lead. It helps those served become healthier, wiser, freer, and more autonomous. This book encourages collaboration, trust, listening, and empowerment. It offers long-lasting change, not a temporary fix and extends beyond business for leaders of all types of groups.

Another Masterpiece! 5 out of 5 stars.
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

Dr. Peale begins with a lesson on listening to God in "creative silence", that in a worship atmosphere, a person can tap into God's thoughts and overcome the challenges of life. Bringing a spirit of expectancy is important if one is to achieve the desired results.
"...faith is the contact point with God's power" he tells us on page 12. He says a friend gave him a working definition of a competent church service, "The creation of an atmosphere in which a spiritual miracle can take place" (p. 12).
Dr. Peale reminds us of a theme found in a lot of his writings, one worth emphasis. He tell us to "supplant destructive thoughts with good ones, diseased thoughts with healthy ones" (p. 32).
Another one of his themes that he includes in this book has to do with the power of the mind to create. "There is a deep tendency in human nature to become like that which you image yourself to be" he quotes a psychologist as saying (p. 47).
Faith, confident assurance in God, releases powerful help on your behalf.
We're reminded of the power of the unseen in his description on page 82, "your life, or mine, is not determined by outward circumstances, but by the thoughts that habitually engage the mind." As a man thinks so he becomes.
He has such a powerful way of expressing truth. Consider the statement he makes on page 84, "A thought, properly employed, possesses a healing property."
If a person wants his life to be different, he should think different thoughts.
In a couple of places in the book he reminds us that Jesus Christ taught us to humble ourselves as children.
Toward the end of the book, a frank discussion of death is given. I strongly encourage you to get this book, if for no other reason to read this portion of it.
What you think determines what you become. What you become determines your life's work. Knowing how to live teaches one how to die.

Good Gift Book 5 out of 5 stars.
41 of 43 people found this review helpful.

An interesting little book that will help you learn to focus on others. Like The Choice is Yours, this book is full of quotes and tidbits to help your life have more meaning and purpose. If you read it you will be challenged, and if you're willing to work you will experience growth in character and attitudes.

Humility 5 out of 5 stars.

What a wonderful book. I've read through it at least a dozen times. Give this to everyone in your success lines (down lines). Each of us strives to leave this world better than we got it.
When you have reached financial success you realize that there is so much more out there that can be accomplished for others. Take this book and savor it. Read a page a night to your spouse, your child, your pet. I am a huge John Maxwell fan anyway, but wow, this is over the top. I will be eternally grateful for this reminder of how to serve others.

Editorial Review:

Best-selling author and nationally renowned motivational speaker John Maxwell looks beyond a worldly view of what matters to find a deeper call and a greater purpose in life. Stripping away the myths of success touted by our culture, he boldly and confidently asserts that true significance is only found by living in relationship with God and by using one's energy and influence to pass along God's love to others. Written in Maxwell's straightforward style punctuated with engaging stories and anecdotes, The Journey from Success to Significance is right on target for men's groups and business people as well as graduates.

Christian-filled way to open the lines of communication 4 out of 5 stars.
28 of 28 people found this review helpful.

Though the first two chapters are filled with spiritual advice, the personality and spending surveys are eye-opening. If you're looking for spiritual guidance as well as financial advice, this is a book for you. However, if you just want to get down to the nitty gritty of how you can cut costs, and live comfortably you might want to look into a more personal finance type of book.

It is not what I expected... 3 out of 5 stars.
11 of 17 people found this review helpful.

I had very high expectations for this book, and, truthfully they were not met. Although it is a "workbook" and helpful in that way, I did not find the actual chapters helpful. As a psych major in college, I had access to similar "quizes," however it was helpful to compare my fiance and myself, which I did not have the opportunity to do in college. Plain and simple: it is cheeper than taking a course in Psych of Personality, or having a psychologist administer a psychological inventory, but if you have experienced something like this in the past, don't waste your money... Oh yah, one more thing.... If you are not religious, and don't want a book that discusses God's view of money, this is, again, not the book for you.

Editorial Review:

Larry Burkett summarizes his key insights into wise money management that come from more than twenty years of intense Bible study and experience in counseling thousands of financially troubled couples.

Peophets, Pittfalls & Principles 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I have read this book several times and have bought copys of it for several people. I love what Bishop Hamon does with this book. I have the audio version of this book called the 10M's and I must say if you are wanting to move into God's finest this is the book to help you get there. It helps you to discern any weed seeds and character flaws that you need to deal with and to move in a greater understanding and capacity of the Prophetic. This book is a must for the serious student of Prophecy or one ministering in the Prophetic gifts.

Good biblical teaching 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

For the past twenty years or so God developed a passion in me for the prophetic and so I've gotten to read a lot of books dealing with the revelatory ministry. This is by far one of the better ones, the author bases his most of his examples on scripture and whilst occasionally gives a ministry story. His desire is to teach from God's word foremost. The subjects he deals with, like jealously, are very convicting and relevant.
His writing has a good style, and whilst not overtly technical ( few Greek -Hebrew word discussions etc ) portrays the heart of the subject and has good applications for follow up.

It is nice to see a ministry book that deals with the problem areas and dangers of a position , as well as the more flamboyant "public side" of it. Good and necessary balance to the unrealistic trend in other authors writing only their success theology. Wish there were more teaching like this.

The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that every ministry I believe has room for improvement, and there were some areas I wish the book had explored more , like discernment. I also had a few minor difference of viewpoint on some of the pages. But that said, Brother Hamon has done an excellant job on this book and I whole heartly reccomend it.

(4 1/2 stars of 5 )

Editorial Review:

This book shows you how to recognize your hidden "root" problems, and detect and correct character flaws and "weed seed" attitudes. It also can teach you how to discern true prophets using Dr. Hamon's ten M's.

I haven't decided whether or not the title of this book is making it more saleable or not. I had a totally different idea about what this book would be about because of the title, and since I hadn't read anything else by Pilzer at the time, I was skeptical.
THIS BOOK IS PHENOMENALLY FASCINATING.
Again, the title is extremely misleading, and after asking the author about it, he said that his publisher gave it that title. Of course, the title of "Why economics are like they are" might be more appropriate, but it is in no way indicative of how PHENOMENALLY FASCINATING this book is.
I am EXTREMELY GRATEFUL that the title made me buy the book, and was happily deceived by it. One of my top favorites ever, and you'll note that I read ALOT. PLEASE read this book- it will make you INFINITELY more informed.

Editorial Review:

In God Wants You to Be Rich, bestselling author Paul Zane Pilzer provides an original, provocative view of how to accumulate wealth and why it is beneficial to all of humankind. A theology of economics, this book explores why God wants each of us to be rich in every way -- physically, emotionally, and financially -- and shows the way to prosperity, well-being, and peace of mind.

Love this book! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is probably one of the best, if not the best book I've read in a long time. Henri Nouwen's journey through anguish and depression--straight from the heart and every single chapter illuminating!! His words helped me to change the way I look at others, myself and God. I highly recommend this profound book!

Editorial Review:

The Inner Voice of Love: A Journey Through Anguish to Freedom is a collection of passages from Henri Nouwen's journals, written during a period when his self-esteem evaporated, his energy to work disappeared, and God seemed entirely unreal. This is not a book to be read straight through: each short chapter takes time to digest, because, like the following passage, each of Nouwen's thoughts has the raw complexity of real honesty:
Your body needs to be held and to hold, to be touched and to touch. None of these needs is to be despised, denied, or repressed. But you have to keep searching for your body's deeper need, the need for genuine love. Every time you are able to go beyond the body's superficial desires for love, you are bringing your body home and moving toward integration and unity.
