This book has helped me to focus my attention on me instead of the issues at work which are beyond my control. If you're in a job that seems stressful and you need some encouragement, this book is for you. You can choose to be happy at work or you can choose to be miserable. This book clearly let's you see which choice is in your best interest! You can be peaceful at work regardless to your work circumstance if you choose to. This book was worth reading and sharing with other people that I work with.

Great Book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book was very helpful and practical in dealing with uncomfortable work environments in a Christian manner. It gave specific examples of ways to deal with difficult situations, using scriptural principles based on the life of King David.

Editorial Review:

In this empowering book, based on his bestselling video series, T.D. Jakes shows readers how to use Christian principles in the workplace, using faith as the key to happiness and productivity. Bishop Jakes explains how people can rise above petty conflicts, turn obstacles into opportunities, and let God do His work in their lives every day-even when they're coping with complaining co-workers or difficult bosses.

This book encourages Thinking - Questioning - Asking Tough Questions - That's Coaching! 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I really enjoyed the book - read it through once underlined points to remember. Now I am going back and reading again the highlights. I like it even better, the second time through. Miss Jones' writing show passion. A man or woman, anybody who acts on the truths in this book will see change. That's what Coaching is about, Forward Change, not dwelling on the past, but learning, not dwelling in it. I am a man and enjoyed it greatly.

Editorial Review:

There was a time when only athletes had coaches. Now, everyone from CEOs to at-risk youth are being "coached." The International Coaching Federation-which began with only a handful of people-now boasts membership of over 5,000, and currently more than 150,000 people call themselves "Life Coaches." The benefits of coaching have been well documented, but having the right coach is critical.

Jesus had only three years to train the twelve disciples, yet in that time he managed to turn this ragamuffin group into "lean, clean marketing machines." Divided into four critical sections-Focus, Balance, Productivity, and Fulfillment-Jesus, Life Coach presents a faith-based coaching program with Jesus as the model. Delving into the principles Jesus used to transform those around him, the book offers proven strategies and countless applications for modern-day coaches.

Soul at Work: Spiritual Leadership in Organizations 4 out of 5 stars.

Interesting book, with great insight into businesses willing to remain on the high road.

Bridging the Gap 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

There is an increasing awareness that spirituality is not limited to religious organizations and/or activities. Margaret Benefiel uses the definition of spirituality that would certainly bridge the gap between secular view of work and spiritual understanding of work: "the human spirit, fully engaged." In my mind, Margaret Benefiel's premise for the book is quite simple: work can be as fulfilling as a deep spiritual experience. In other words, people need not work as necessary burden for survival but as essential tool for meaning and satisfaction.

The examples provided in the book illustrate how real people were able to bridge the gap to their best ability. In each case study, how people are living out "soul at work" is unique but all case studies show that it is possible to create a work environment where human spirits can be fully engaged. The work environment where creativity and dignity can reside side by side is still rare but these example prove conclusively that it is possible.

The book helped me tremendously in changing my view of work place. In the new view, productivity is balanced by relationships. Position description is seen as supplementary to a creative visions.

If you are a leader of any organization, this book is a must-read. It will help you to shed some of mechanistic view of work. It might help you to feel your spirit fully engaged in being human. That is, after all, soul at work.

Editorial Review:

Soul at Work describes the way organizations do business. Soul in the workplace is not a theological abstraction, but a way of being and doing. Each of the organizations that Benefiel profiles in this lively and informative book--from Southwest Airlines to the band U2--describes the profound role that awareness of soul, or spirituality, can play in leadership and organizational life.

Divided into three parts, the book looks at the role of individuals in nurturing soul, the organizational reality by which soul is manifest, and the processes by which the tension between individual and organization are managed.

It is for managers, workers, organization specialists, church groups, CEOs, and anyone involved in the transformation of organizational life. It is for everyone who suspects that there is more to business than the bottom line.

Simply the best book on personal finance you can buy 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I actually had this book in 1993 when it was self published the principles in it showed me how to go from being totally broke and $50,000 in debt to now having a net worth of $150,000, this is also after going through a divorce where I lost 50% of my net worth.

This is financial step one:Start the journey.I have also been listening to Dave Ramsey on the radio since he started in Nashville in 1993. His common sense information is why I have a 6 figure 401K, and have had financial peace over the past 13 years. He taught me what my parents should have about personal finance. This is a great beginners book in personal finance,it can show you the way out of debt and into prosperity. Here are some of the rules:
1). Never have a car payment
2). Do not use credit cards
3). Get a mortgage of less than 25% of your monthly net income.
4). Have 3 months of expenses saved
5). Get a career you love not a job
6). Tell yourself and yout family NO to things you can not afford
7). Contribute 15% to your 401K
8). Live on a budget
9). Live on less than you make!
10). Work two jobs until you are out of debt.

It is worth the price you pay short term for the long term peace.

Editorial Review:

A Great Book!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 12 people found this review helpful.

For me, this book was truely inspirational, a breath of fresh air. I, (like many many others in society,I'm sure) used to believe that there was little room for God or our faith in the business world. It was just dog-eat-dog, Monday to Friday. Larry Julian shows you just how uninformed that thinking is. He interviews not just average business men & women, but captains of industry. True leaders in their field. And he shows you how these people not only believe in God, but practice their Faith and follow HIS teachings EVERY DAY. It is WHY they are so successful.
For those of you who think they have to choose between God or business, read this book.

Editorial Review:

Business leaders face the difficult task of reconciling their personal beliefs with the bottom-line demands of their business obligations. Often, it seems like the conflict between harsh business realities and their desire to "do the right thing" pull them in opposite directions. God Is My CEO offers a practical and inspirational source of guidance for achieving a balanced and accomplished life.

Readers can learn from businesspeople around the country who are working and living the life they believe in, including Horst Schulze, CEO of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and Ken Melrose, Chairman and CEO of The Toro Company.

Discussion guides at the end of each chapter help readers reflect on the lessons presented and determine their core values. The paperback edition of God Is My CEO also features a practical business plan that readers can use to integrate people, processes, and profits into win-win situations.

Not an autobiography, but his game plan for success 4 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

To reach the pinnacle of the ultra-competitive NFL (3 Super Bowl victories) is by itself a remarkable feat. To reach the pinnacle of the ultra-competitive NASCAR Winston Cup series (2 championships) is also remarkable.

To do both in the same career? That's unheard of, unless you are Joe Gibbs.

As a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, I was never followed the NFC too closely, but then when Tony Stewart joined Joe Gibbs Racing, I started looking at Joe Gibbs and his past accomplishments. What he has done in the sports world is truly remarkable.

"Racing to Win" is more about Joe's principles for life and success more than his life story per se, although he uses several incidents in his own life to illustrate his points (including a perilous brush with bankruptcy during his coaching career). Throughout it all, Gibbs doesn't really toot his own horn, describing himself as "just a P.E. major made good", but the fact his that success seems to stick to him like a magnet lends creedence to his principles.

Joe has outlined 6 fundamental prinicples that are necessary for a successful life that is also complete. Although one can have some success without all of them (and Joe presents his ex-boss, Jack Kent Cooke as an example), one will fall short of a full and complete life without all of them (career, finances, relationships, team-building, morality, health). These 6, applied with copious amounts of hard work, discipline and perseverence, are Gibbs's game plan of success.

As noted by other reviewers, Gibbs' Christianity has a prominent role in his book, but anyone remotely familiar with him should know that it has a prominent role in his life as well. To criticize him for nothing more than actually practicing that which he preaches is a bit unfair, IMO.

Joe's own track record of accomplishments speaks for itself. Together with Ken Abraham, he has written a book that is instructive without being preachy, entertaining (his anecdote about broadcasting with Mike Ditka will leave you laughing out loud), and will make you think about what he has to say. It is also not a overly long read, either.

If you want to study the "why" more than the "what" behind Joe Gibbs, I highly recommend this book.

Editorial Review:

Joe Gibbs is the only coach in history who has won prestigious championships in two world-class sports: NFL's Super Bowl and NASCAR's Winston Cup. A proven winner in motivating himself and others to succeed, the former Washington Redskins coach and current NASCAR team owner reveals the keys to success in Racing to Win. Through fascinating inside stories about stock car racing and football, Gibbs candidly admits his own mistakes and shares the life lessons he's learned. Football and racing fans, as well as anyone interested in balancing work and family responsibilities, will find Racing to Win both a page-turner and a valuable resource filled with practical truths.

Worthless mumbo jumbo 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Don't expect to find any real useful information in this volume. It is only a philosophical piece that describes how you should think about money. It can be summarized as followed: there is an abundance of money on the planet, admit that you want and love money, be true to your goals, and be generous with others. If you do so, all the money you will ever need need will come your way. He suggests that you put a lit candle in a window for a week along with a letter saying that you want money for all the good you've done in this world, and ......voila ! A truckload of money will soon be dumped in your lap. (This is how the author puports to have obtained $15,000. WOW.) He does realistically admit that it might take a little longer than one week....so get several candles he says. Skip this book and pick up a good investment guide.

OK...Not Earth Shattering 2 out of 5 stars.

I got this book based on Dan Kennedy's (author of the "No BS" series of marketing books)recommendation that Stuart Wilde was a great author with great ideas.

It's a decent book with a lot of the metaphysical concepts in most books of this type: expect what you want, visualize, feel the result and so on. The first few Chapters were well written but then he gets into his cutesy, colloquial style which I found a little grating.

If you've never read any "Law of Attraction" type books, this is a good one to begin your journey. It's small and a quick read.

Kingdom Business, Kingdom Priorities 5 out of 5 stars.
17 of 17 people found this review helpful.

"If God has called us into business, our goal is to discover why and act on that purpose. As we do so, God's creation will be blessed, and He will be glorified." - Michael Baer

This book is a great read! According to this book, there are four characteristics of a kingdom business:

1. A kingdom business is vocational; something that God has called us to do.
Col. 1:16-20, Eph 4:1, Rom 12:1-2

2. A kingdom business is intentional; God has a very specific purpose for each business.
Eph 2:10

3. A kingdom business is relational; we are exposed to a vast network through business and God wants these relationships to be valued.
Mark 12:30-31

4. A kingdom business is operational; operations must honors and reflect God.
1 Cor. 10:31

Baer suggests establishing a kingdom business by doing the following:

1. Create a kingdom foundation
Write out what you believe about: profit, people, growth, service or quality, productivity and innovation. Examples:
- We will always seek mutually beneficial outcomes in all that we do.
- We will operate in a fiscally responsible manner.
- We will maintain the priorities of family and friendship.
- We will endeavor to find the maximum enjoyment in whatever we do.
- We will seek continual learning and improvement so that what is done is done well and with full commitment.
- We will live lives that invite inquiry.

2. Articulate a kingdom direction
Vision: broad, expansive statement of the general direction in which company is headed.
Mission: a narrower definition of your vision - or your vision with metrics.
Purpose: the expression of what you believe God has as his specific will for your company.

3. Identify kingdom targets and objectives
Target: a three year goal for your business.
Objective: a one year goal.
For example: revenues, expansion, staffing, profitability, ministry and missions.

4. Focus on a few pivotal strategies
For example: execute marketing/business plan, etc.

5. Draft and assign quarterly action items
Break down your plan into a list of 10 or fewer action items

6. Schedule regular accountability

Editorial Review:

"While some Christian professionals dream of being "freed from business" to go into the ministry or see business as enemy territory to be invaded for Christ, others are convinced that Christian principles simply don't work in the "real world". In this book, Michael Baer challenges each of these positions. He rejects the unbiblical thinking that ministry and business are by definition separate activities - that our lives can be compartmentalized into the sacred and secular. Instead he guides business leaders in developing the vital characteristics of a kingdom business - the kind of business that will free them live fully integrated lives and lead organizations that significantly impact the world."

Editorial Review:

Put your flawed foot forward.

Pick up most leadership books and you’ll find strategies for leveraging your power and minimizing your areas of weakness. But think about the leaders whose names have gone down in history. Most of them were so messed up that, if they were looking for work today, no executive placement service would give them the time of day.

God’s criteria for choosing leaders runs counter to the conventional wisdom. Our culture equates strength with effectiveness, but God favors leaders who know the value of brokenness.

In Leading With a Limp, you’ll discover what makes flawed leaders so successful. They’re not preoccupied with protecting their image, they are undaunted by chaos and complexity, they are ready to risk failure in moving an organization from what is to what should be. God chooses leaders who aren’t deceived by the myths of power and control, but who realize that God’s power is found in brokenness.

If you are a leader–or if you have been making excuses to avoid leading–find out how you can take full advantage of your weakness. A limping leader is the person God uses to accomplish amazing things.

To go deeper, check out the Leading With a Limp Workbook.
