An Israel Haggadah For Passover 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

We have used this Haggadah at our Passover Seder for the past 24 years. Although we have studied several newer publications, we have yet to find another Haggadah that is as poetic, easy to follow, holds children's interest, and is paced as well. In addition, the photographs are lovely!

Recipe for a wonderful Seder 5 out of 5 stars.
26 of 26 people found this review helpful.

This book is great. The language is poetic and powerful. It is even gender-inclusive and socially conscious without seeming new-agey. The illustrations are beautiful and dreamy. This haggadah is very versatile and provides a lot of choices for planning your Seder.

For an enjoyable Telling 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 16 people found this review helpful.

Gender neutral language. Based in Right-to-Left format. Lots of English leader-and-group responsive readings. Contains Hebrew sections with English translations, and also transliterations for the primary blessings. The Four Questions are not transliterated, but are in English and Hebrew. The Four Children are children, not SONS. Dayenu is in Hebrew and English, no transliteration. There is a full Grace After Meals in Hebrew and Hallel is in Hebrew and English. Contains 25 pages of music.

Our family's haggadah 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Our extended family has tried out other haggadot, but we always come back to this one. The gender-sensitive language is done very well -- it doesn't stick out at all. The book is a work of art!

Editorial Review:

The revolutionary Haggadah is written in gender-inclusive contemporary language and has sold over 900,000 copies since its introduction.

Editorial Review:

A guide to help you invigorate your Seder, create lively discussions, and make personal connections with the Exodus story today.

For many people, the act of simply reading the Haggadah no longer fulfills the Passover Seder’s purpose: to help you feel as if you personally had gone out of Egypt. Too often, the ritual meal has become predictable, boring, and uninspiring.

Creating Lively Passover Seders is an innovative, interactive guide to help encourage fresh perspectives and lively dialogue. This intriguing Haggadah companion offers thematic discussion topics, text study ideas, activities, and readings that come alive in the traditional group setting of the Passover Seder. Each activity and discussion idea aims to:

• Deepen your understanding of the Haggadah

• Provide new opportunities for engaging the themes of the Passover festival, including interactive readings and bibliodrama

• Develop familiarity with the Exodus story, as well as the life and times of the people who shaped the development of the Haggadah

Reliving the Exodus is not about remembering an event long ago, but about participating in a conversation that provides hope and strength for the struggle to make tomorrow a brighter day. With this complete resource, you can create more meaningful encounters with Jewish values, traditions, and texts that lead well beyond the Seder itself.

Includes classic stories for your seder table 4 out of 5 stars.
18 of 20 people found this review helpful.

Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel tells tales, his wife provides translations, and Dr Podwal includes his magical drawings. Wiesel's commentaries are printed in red (for example, for the Four Sons, he comments on the idea of Four Generations and the transmittal of heritage from knowing (wise) to not-knowing(cant even ask the question)). The classic Hebrew and English text of the traditional haggadah are in black ink. The Haggadah is in Right to Left format. While in English and Hebrew, there are no transliterations.

Editorial Review:

A Passover Haggadah, retelling the Exodus of the Children of Israel from Egypt, guides families every year through their Passover Seder. A Passover Haggadah faithfully renders the entire text of story, prayer, and song, with commentary by Elie Wiesel. Expertly interwoven, Wiesel's commentary (recalling memories of his own boyhood Seders and reflecting on Israel's place in the modern world) may be read aloud, along with the traditional text, in whole or in part. Drawings by Mark Powdal add joyous, fearsome, and poignant moments to the reader's experience throughout. At the beginning, just before the recitation of the Kiddush, one illustration depicts a contemporary Seder table whose length stretches into a path crossing a huge picture of the desert of ancient Egypt. The scene in the book is the beginning of the journey, the table is the destination, and, with this beautiful Haggadah, the story continues among us. --Michael Joseph Gross

Lots of menus and ideas for Passover. 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I had this book for a year or two before I really tried out the recipes one year. They are excellent!

Zell Shulman organizes her book into numerous Pesach menus, such as Ashkenazic, Sephardic, Health-Conscious, Easy to Prepare, and Ecumenical Potluck. There are grocery lists and timelines accompanying each menu and they really help to streamline the task of pulling together a Seder meal.

Even though the layout and organization was impressive, I wasn't sure I would find the recipes to be as good as promised. When I served the Sephardic menu, it was really good! Everyone devoured the food and it felt wonderful to present such a lavish meal that still allowed me to enjoy the holiday and my friends and family in a relaxed fashion.

One other plus: the author includes many additional recipes that help round out the eight day holiday. My reason for four stars: her "Easy to Prepare" seder scares me a little, although in fairness I haven't tried the recipes.

A Passover Seder Haggadah Created Especially for Christians

Jews have been celebrating the Passover through a special meal, called a seder, for millenia. Jesus himself celebrated the Passover feast with his disciples in what we refer to as The Last Supper.

In this special book, co-authored by a rabbi and a pastor, we have the unique opportunity to experience an authentic Jewish Passover seder, from a distinctively Christian perspective. There are many haggadot used in Jewish homes and synagogues, but this one offers meaningful insights on how Christians can both learn from Judaism as a means of deepening their Christian faith, and better understand the Jewishness of Jesus.

Always respectful of the differences between Judaism and Christianity, this Passover guide provides:
*a complete guide (plan and script) to a meaningful seder experience
*a deeper knowledge of the great themes of the Exodus story, in combination with Christian insights
*rich opportunities for a better understanding of Lent and Holy Week
*a fuller knowledge of why Jesus placed such importance on the universal themes of slavery, freedom, and community around the seder table

An Exhaustive Study 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 5 people found this review helpful.

If you have not read this book, you are not well enough informed on the subject(s), even if you are a seminary grad and/or Pastor. This book is a complete treatment of the histories and comparison's of Passover and Easter. If you are a spiritual leader in any position, absorbing this book will provide the only way for you to be confident you are leading your "flock" with an accurate, non-biased approach, especially during the Passover/Easter season every year.

Editorial Review:

In these companion volumes of essays, Jewish and Christian scholars examine from historical, theological and aesthetic perspectives, the practices and intricate interrelationships of Passover and Easter. Several essays lament the antisemitism that has infected the Easter liturgy and one - Israel Yuval's "Easter and Passover as early Jewish Christian Dialogue"- pushes beyond the oft-told tale of Jewish-Christian enmity, to explore ways in which the development of worship patterns of the two faiths have influenced one another.

Editorial Review:

A Passover Seder involves the whole family. It's an evening filled with stories and symbols to celebrate a Festival of Freedom from slavery in Egypt. Jesus later turned these promises of Israel's deliverance to a message of deliverance from our own slavery to sin. It is a telling witness to what He has done and is doing to redeem His people. This book with its uniquely Jewish Christian insights allows you and your family to enter into the experience. It will become a treasured memory as you personally experience the Last Supper (a Passover Seder) in your own home.
