Editorial Review:

Following the release of his spectacular Moby Dick: A Pop-Up Book, paper-crafting genius Sam Ita gives Jules Verne’s engrossing undersea story an equally unique and amazing presentation. Ita literally takes graphic novels into another dimension with breathtaking designs that pop, flaps that lift, parts that move, and art that astonishes. There’s nothing like it out on the market.
You won’t believe your eyes as you join Captain Nemo on an unforgettable adventure: submarines, sea monsters, and even the lost city of Atlantis (complete with ancient artifacts, temples, and columns) rise from the page as if emerging from the waves. Take a 3-D look inside Jules Verne’s visionary submarine; sit with the sailors at their lobster-laden table; pull a lever to move the diving gauge; and face a giant squid as its slippery tentacles attack the Nautilus and her crew.
Just as he did with his immensely popular Moby Dick, Sam Ita has concocted pure thrilling magic.

Any fantasy lover should read this book! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

If you've seen the movie, you've only gotten a taste of what this book has to offer. The movie is only an abbreviated adaptation of the first half of the book, and the sequels are simply spin-offs of the first movie. This book has so much more to offer! It's a story about the importance of imagination and fantasy, self-discovery and identity, and the importance of discovering what is truly important in your heart. At the very least the story in these pages is one of the greatest fantasy stories you will ever read... and if you truly open your heart to the story, you will walk away a better person after having read it.

A classic - for kids and adults alike 5 out of 5 stars.

Once again, I remember reading this book when I was a child. I had always been a bookworm and no problems diving into the imaginary world. This book will bring you even further. The story is one that everyone can relate to - young and old. The translation from German seems to me very good. I unfortunately do not remember every exact wording in German. The message of the book is very clear once you start reading - and even though I was hesitant, I think the movie was very well done to capture this.
There are not many books that one can read every now and then and still feel a renewed bond with the story. This one will keep you wondering what happened to you when you grew up.

My kids loved this book! 5 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

My kids loved seeing the principal, lunch ladies, gym coaches, and teachers chase a gingerbread kid around the school in this book. The story is entertaining (with some repeating phrases kids liked to say along with the book) and the ending was a good surprising twist. The illustrations are REALLY cute and appealing. This book's well worth the money.

The Gingerbread Kid Goes to School 5 out of 5 stars.

A must for teacher. It can show kids that they can take any story and add to it and make there own book. And it also allow kids to see there other books besize the Gingerbread boy.

I am a kindergarten teacher who likes to compare different books in the same genre. This book is excellent and good for the advanced reader afterward. They want to read it again and again! You can use it to springboard other ideas for future books to written by the children in the Writing Workshop (the Writing Process for us old folks)!
Enjoy and get one!

Editorial Review:

A silly twist on the classic tale. The school principal bakes a gingerbread cookie and brings it to school in his lunchbox. When the principal opens his lunchbox, the gingerbread kid winks and jumps off the desk. Where is he off to in such a hurry?

Editorial Review:

From the first day of third grade, when Ramona Quimby meets her eventual nemesis Yard Ape, life moves on at its usual wild pace--usual for the boisterous Ramona, that is. Soon she is accidentally squashing a raw egg into her hair at the school cafeteria, being forced to play Uncle Rat with her annoying young neighbor, and, worst of all, throwing up in her classroom. The responsibilities of an 8-year-old are sometimes daunting, especially in a family that is trying to squeak by while the father goes back to school. But Ramona is full of too much vim and vigor to ever be down for long.

In her second Newbery Honor Book about Ramona (the first was Ramona and Her Father), Beverly Cleary presents another slice of the Quimby family life. Author of more than two dozen children's books, Cleary has a true knack for understanding the tangle of thoughts and emotions in a child's mind and heart. Empathic, witty, and astute, she has earned many other awards, including the Newbery Medal for Dear Mr. Henshaw. Alan Tiegreen's clever line drawings have charmed countless readers of Cleary's books over the years, and his style is now inextricably tied to hers. (Ages 8 to 12) --Emilie Coulter

Remembering "The Tomten" 4 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I had this book when I was very small. My uncle who was a librarian gave us a library bound edition hardback. I discovered it at my grandma's house when I was visiting about 15 years ago and almost cried. I could still remember it. I brought it home and read it to my kids and they all loved it. I agree about the picture quality in the paperback, sort of washed out and not as good as the old hardbacks. If you can get hold of an older copy, from a library or something, it will probably not be in pristine shape but will have the nicer paper and illustrations.

Poor quality printing but, great book. 3 out of 5 stars.

Look for the 1961 version if you care about presentation. I bought this thinking I was getting a deal. However, when I got it, I was disapointed. It's missing some pages and it has an extra 8 blank pages all throughout the book. The paper and scanning quaulity were awful. I did like one thing about it. My son was 3 when we got this book and I didn't want him to see print at the time (for personal waldorf education beliefs). The print is on one page and the pic is on the other. This format was great for us because I could cover the print page and expose only the pic page while I told the story.

Description is a bit off 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

At the time of writing this, the description for The Velveteen Rabbit Gift Set: Hardcover book and plush package has Product Dimensions: 17.2 x 8.2 x 3.7 inches. So I figured the plush doll would be 17.2 inches tall from base to ear tip, about the size one would imagine it to be after reading the book, it's not, closer to 10 inches total. Besides that, it's a great book, one of my childhood favorites.

Editorial Review:

An all-time children's classic "The Velveteen Rabbit" beautifully packaged with an adorable, authentic plush version of the beloved bunny!

The Velveteen Rabbit's journey from outcast toy to real bunny is a classic tale of love, friendship and learning to be yourself. This special hardcover gift edition, which includes beautiful design on every page, reunites Margery Williams's text with the original full-color 1922 illustrations by William Nicholson. The plush stuffed bunny, which has been designed exclusively for this gift set, is made of high quality velveteen and based on these same original illustrations. We hope that he will become, like the Velveteen Rabbit himself, a cherished companion and inspiration.

for a wedding gift 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This is a wonderful children's book, but I have given a copy as a wedding gift. It was very well recieved.

Possibly the best book ever written 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

OK, there may be some stiff competetion in terms of "the best book ever written" -but this is one of my favorite books ever written. For some reason it's lesser known than many of the other Shel Silverstein poem books (may adults have never heard of it), but IMHO this one is a MUST READ. Although I like some of the poem books, quite honestly, they aren't my favorite. If you judge this book by them, then you may miss this wonderful story. I don't think that I've read this and haven't been able to get a smile out of any kid or any adult.

Editorial Review:

It was missing a piece.
And it was not happy.
So it set off in search
of its missing piece.
And as it rolled
it sang this song -
Oh I'm lookin' for my missin' piece
I'm lookin' for my missin' piece
Hi-dee-ho, here I go,
Lookin' for my missin' piece.

What it finds on its search for the missing piece is simply and touchingly told in this fable that gently probes the nature of quest and fulfillment.

My son loves it 4 out of 5 stars.

My 2 year-old loves Dr Seuss books and we decided to get this one in Spanish as we are raising him bilingual. It's very good for a translation as these books are extremely hard to translate.

!Excelente! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I never liked Green Eggs and Ham in English (or Fox in Socks either) because I found Sam so annoying. Give it up already, Sam, I don't like the blasted things! However, to my surprise I found myself really enjoying the translation into Spanish and I don't mind reading it over and over again to my kids. As a translator and conference interpreter myself, I'm delighted with the way the translators solved the rhythm transference. As a mom to bilingual children, I hope there are many more translations of English classics of the caliber of this one.

complicated read 3 out of 5 stars.

i purchased go dog go for my son and he loved the spanish version. so i decided to go with green eggs(since i have read it over 50 times)and it was not as easy to follow and the words were a little difficult to relate. i can speak a little spanish and read a little but this book left me struggling.

One of the greatest children's books 5 out of 5 stars.

This isn't just a great children's book, its a great story. I read this for the first time at age 22 and was deeply touched. I actually bought it for myself, not as a gift. It is a story I want to read to my children one day.

wonderfully simple book 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a book that I had as a kid and try to give it to everyone I know with children. The selfless love this tree demonstrates and the little boy who doesn't understand until he is much older, is a wonderful story we should all keep in our hearts

Editorial Review:

"Once there was a tree . . . and she loved a little boy." So begins a story of unforgettable perception, beautifully written and illustrated by the gifted and versatile Shel Silverstein.

Every day the boy would come to the tree to eat her apples, swing from her branches, or slide down her trunk . . . and the tree was happy. But as the boy grew older he began to want more from the tree, and the tree gave and gave.

This is a tender story, touched with sadness, aglow with consolation. Shel Silverstein has created a moving parable for readers of all ages that offers an affecting interpretation of the gift of giving and a serene acceptance of another's capacity to love in return.

I was not comfortable about Prince Phillip

whell he was okay but way too tough on Maleficent
first he wacked maleficent's muzzle with the sword
then he K-I-L-L-E-D HER!
what sort of a wacko could ever do that to an endangered creature? prince phillip should get arrested by the cops
do knights worship themselves?

Over all, the original makes a lot more sense. 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My almost 3-year-old daughter seems to like this story. She loves the pretty baby and when Maleficent appears, she points at Maleficent and says, "she is naughty." :) Illustrations are colorful and pretty. The length is perfect for my daughter. The size is good for her little hands too.

But every time I read it, I wonder why the fairies didn't keep the Princess until AFTER Princess' 16th birthday. Isn't keeping her safe from Maleficent more important than just keeping her away from the handsome stranger? Or did she get pricked after her birthday, even though Maleficent specifically said, "before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday"? If you have watched the DVD, this book may seem to flow well, but if you haven't, you may be confused on why fairies did some things their way.

Later on, those "good" fairies hide their mess-up when they couldn't keep the Princess safe. There was a kind reason behind it, but as a mother, I want to teach my daughter to be truthful even if the truth made me sad. Any parents should understand that even if they try their best, they sometimes can't stop unfortunate events from happening, right?

I also stop when I read those names, "the Shield of Virtue and the Sword of Truth." They sound cool, but the reasons for those namings seem to be missing. They just seemed to be thrown in there.

Other things I notice is that families in Disney are too often incomplete. In this story, both parents are luckily alive, but they are helpless and mostly non-existent in their daugher's life. She was gone for 16 years and as soon as she came back, she got married. Many princesses are happily ever after as long as they meet handsome rich men. It seems that their weaknesses pop out more in books without Disney's strengths such as fun songs and smooth animation.

In the original, there is a lesson parents can learn with their children. Instead of burning the spindles, the King should have taught the Princess not to touch the spindles. At the same time, children can learn that they should be careful when they touch things out of curiosity.

The original may be too lengthy for my daughter at this age, but I think I can wait until she is old enough to understand it. It is fun to be familiarized with Disney princesses, but there are tons of other books that are more suitable for her age.

Like I said, this picture book is appealing to the eyes, so I give 4 stars but cannot compare this book to other original classics.
