Editorial Review:

Joss Whedon, the pop-culture mastermind behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer, bridged the gap between his cult-hit Firefly TV series and his Serenity motion picture with this three-issue miniseries. Penned by Whedon and Brett Matthews, a Firefly show writer, the ragtag crew takes on a scavenger mission with the promise of a big payoff. Only too late do they realize the gig is orchestrated by an old enemy eager to remake their acquaintance... with the help of operatives wearing bright blue gloves.
This new oversized hardcover has a new cover by Adam Hughes and shows off the work of penciller Will Conrad and colorist Laura Martin, and the array of pinups by phenomenal guest artists including:
John Cassaday,
Jo Chen,
Joe Quesada,
Sean Phillips,
Adam Hughes,
JG Jones,
Brian Hitch,
Josh Middleton,
Leinil Yu and
Tim Bradstreet

Also includes more than a dozen new pages with a behind-the-scenes section featuring concept and production art from the film, by Josh Middleton & Leinil Yu and a pre-production memo to the film by Whedon called A Brief History of the Universe, Circa 2516 A.D.

One of the Greats 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

If children's literature was truly given its due, this would go down as one of the Great American Novels. A zany adventure for kids and a brilliant social satire for grown-ups, this novel encaptures the rites of childhood and the life of the upper-class in Kennedy Era New York City. But it for the kids, but be sure to sneak a read for yourself.

A Story of a Brat with Very Little Action 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Here's another book from four decades ago that doesn't hold up well compared to today's superior children's books. I was yearning for way more action. And definitely more wackiness. There are a few wacky and clever happenstances yet I wanted more of that and less of Harriet sitting around thinking, complaining and writing, thinking, writing and complaining. The first half of the book was okay, but after that I lost interest. Harriet was not interesting enough, for me anyway, to care about what happened to her. The pages got harder and harder to turn as the book went on.

This is a work of the early 1960s when many people felt suppressed and angry. That anger, for some, turned into selfishness. This attitude found its way into Harriet. She is a selfish and angry brat. (Whether the author was angry or just commenting on society at the time, I don't know.)

I can only guess that the book's comment on society at the time is what won it the acclaim that it has gotten over the years. For children and adults of 1964, perhaps it was a groundbreaking, gutsy read. But today, it's just a story of an angry, self-centered child that is not very interesting nor exciting to read.

Editorial Review:

Harriet, would-be writer and avid observer of life, records everything she sees and hears . . . until her notebooks fall into the wrong hands. "Bursts with life . . . a tour de force".--School Library Journal. ALA Notable Children's Book; New York Times Outstanding Children's Book.

Fine Novelization 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

N. B. Grace has authored all three of the "High School Musical" novelizations, as well as several of the "Stories from East High". None of the books are exceptionally written, but despite being rather bland do tell the story well. This book follows the new theatrical movie to be released October 24th. I was pleasantly surprised with the plot, though Grace never made an attempt to make the writing more engaging. Instead, it dully and dutifully tells the final chapter in Troy and Gabriella's high school days. Bottom line: children under 12 will probably enjoy it and HSM-fanatics can get a sneak peek at what we'll be seeing on the big screen (the previous novelizations took quotes directly from the movie). Otherwise, you should save your $5 for something else.

Editorial Review:

This must-have junior novel with an 8-page full-color insert retells the story of the much-anticipated theatrical release of High School Musical 3, which finds high school seniors Troy and Gabriella facing the prospect of being separated from one another as they head off to different colleges. Joined by the rest of the Wildcats, they stage an elaborate spring musical reflecting their experiences, hopes, and fears about the future. High School Musical 3 will be released in theaters in Fall 2008.

This book is great!! Aside from the fact that my daughter loves Dora the Explorer it allows you to teach your child good manners and shows them how important it is to treat their playmates. I would recommend this to a parent.

Dora's Book of Manners 3 out of 5 stars.

It is... OK. We really like Dora these days but this book is a bit to wordy to really get the message across.

Dora dora dora 3 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book for my 3 year old granddaughter so I could read it to her. I have to agree with the other reviewer. It is too wordy to keep the childrens attention spans. Other than that, it has a good moral and my granddaughter does now think twice about her manners. So all in all it was an ok book

Dora's Book of Manners 5 out of 5 stars.

We were having trouble with Please and Thank You until Dora made it the right thing to do. The Grandkids are all responding better with manners now and even will shush each other when someone is talking instead of trying to talk over them. All the Moms love this book and so do I. The kids love it and always ask for it.

My 2 yr. old daughter loves Caillou and was very happy with this book when she opened it on Christmas.

We love Caillou 4 out of 5 stars.

This is an adorable story that my daughter loves. Caillou is her one and only and she enjoys 'reading' and hearing more about the Caillou she knows and loves (and recognizes) when the TV is not on.

great book 5 out of 5 stars.

my son loves this book, caillou is missing his sock the whole entire time in the book, so my son takes off one sock while we are reading it, but i wish at the end when he finds his sock, they would have a picture of him with his sock back on his foot! my son didnt want to wear his other sock still after the book was done! haha not that thats a big deal, its still a cute book!

Caillou gets locked in the basement by himself 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Caillou's sock is missing from his pile and he goes to look for it in the basement laundry room. On his way out, the door handle comes off in his hand and he has to call for help. Daddy rescues him, then Mommy locks them both in the basement when she closes the door as they are checking the washer and dryer. Obviously the story has a happy ending. Personally, I was terrified of our basement as a child. I don't know if this book would have made me more or less scared. Probably less, since Caillou is quickly rescued by his parents. I do know that my two year old boy loves it, which is why it gets four stars from me.

Editorial Review:

10th Anniversary Edition Louis Sachar received great recognition for his groundbreaking story of Stanley Yelnats – a boy with a history of bad luck. As School Library Journal predicted in their starred review of the book when it was first published, “Kids will love Holes.” A decade later, the book is still quenching young readers’ thirst for a gripping story about a far-reaching family curse, friendship, adventure, endurance, and, finally, a generous helping of good karma.  Celebrate with this special 10th Anniversary Edition, which includes portraits of the author as a little brother (by his big brother), as a husband (by his wife), and as a father (by his daughter), along with photos and Louis Sachar’s 1999 Newbery acceptance speech. Vladimir Radunsky, who created the original iconoclastic cover illustration, has made new art from the familiar images. Wrapped in an acetate jacket, this edition is an appealing package that will be equally welcome in public, school, or home libraries.
