This well-structured and nicely illustrated English/Spanish dictionary is a good resource which could easily have been made excellent. Where it comes up short is the lack of bilingual coverage for many entries.

Though the product description does flag the fact that the dictionary's purpose is to "meet the needs of today's English language learners," the layout of the dictionary gives the impression that it is for English speakers learning Spanish as the initial entries are given in English. However, many examples -- most notably the practice exercises -- are given in English only. This could prove frustrating for those wanting learn or expand their Spanish with it or vice versa.

I used this quite a bit for writing papers in my Spanish compositions course. It's definitely worth the purchase if you are going to be writing a lot in Spanish.

I teach AP Spanish language and AP Spanish literature, and I bought this book as a present for each of my students before the exam. It is thorough enough for students, and it's relatively inexpensive. All of them will be minoring in Spanish at university, and I know they'll find it a useful tool--I certainly did.

Se puede usarlo rápidamente y fácilmente. Este diccionario tiene casi todas las palabras que se necesita en una clase de español avanzada. Tengo diez copias en mi clase.
This is an excellent smaller dictionary for use in advanced Spanish courses. Make sure you understand that it is Spanish ONLY. An exceptional dictionary to keep handy for longer papers, but one that you probably would not want to carry back and forth to class, is El Larousse Pequeño Ilustrado. For students and translators that need an excellent bilingual dictionary for translation, I have seen nothing that compares with the Oxford Spanish Dictionary. I bought a used copy, and I could not be more happy. If anything happened to IT, I would pay full price to replace it immediately.

No tenía ningún problema con el diccionario.
Es mi primer diccionario que no sirve de traducir de inglés.
(claro, no estoy hispanohablante)
Me sirve bien en clases, y tiene casi todas de las palabras que necesité.

This dictionary was my first dictionary entirely in Spanish (not Spanish-English) and it has served me very well. It had almost all of the words that I needed and yet is small enough to carry to every class. Very handy.

I am a General Surgeon and lead a team of volunteers every year to work in Guatemala. I have bought copies of this book for all members of our team. It has concise, appropiate and complete entries for the clinical situations we encounter on a regular basis. No other dictionary that we have tried over the years comes close to the utility of this one. Other larger and more expensive dictionaries such as Mosby's (approximately $275 on Amazon) are not as comprehensive when it comes to the phrases and vocabulary necessary to communicate in a clinical setting. This little book is a gem and I recommend it highly.

El diccionario esta fantastico. Tiene una seccion especial sobre America Latina muy interesante, ademas de las ya conocidas ilustraciones a colores que lo hacen unico en su clase. Se los recomiendo a todos.

El canal 22 de Mexico (canal cultural) recomendó este diccionario ilustrado. Lo compré como regalo para mi hijo. Es uno de los mejores diccionarios de la lengua española. Lo recomiendo.

I bought my copy on the street in Caracas and the cover is different, but I'm pretty sure it's the same book. It is geared toward the educated individual, with some knowledge of grammar, who is at the intermediate Spanish level. It is under 300 pages, but it's very comprehensive. The answers are at the back along with several verb conjugation charts.

Pleasant, nonthreatening way to teach basic English skills. 4 out of 5 stars.

Each time I get a new Hispanic student with limited English proficiency, I purchase a copy of this book for him. My ESL students are all incarcerated men with various educational backgrounds. Even those students who have very limited skill in reading Spanish have found this book helpful. One student carried the removable fold-up phrase card in his pocket daily for a couple of months. I would not suggest using this text as the sole teaching material in a classroom setting, but it can serve as an invaluable teaching/learning aid.

Excelente Diccionario -- estoy muy contento con mi compra.
Este es el mejor diccionario de la lengua española que he tenido.
Es muy claro y muy fácil de leer -- de alta calidad.

Muy moderno -- la obra fue registrada en 2006,
pero la primera impresión fue distribuida en 2007-01-15.

En mi opinión, toda familia hispana debería tener una copia de este
diccionario en casa y en la oficina.

Este diccionario NO es un diccionario únicamente para los Españoles de España.
Es un diccionario para todo el mundo Hispano.

Quiero aclarar que, aunque este diccionario fue publicado por
la Real Academia Española, también han contribuido las respectivas academias
de la lengua en América Latina y Las Filipinas.

También, contiene bastante definiciones o notas para usos que son únicas
y específicas de los países de las Américas y las Filipinas.

Ademas, contiene bastante definiciones para palabras vulgares como por ejemplo:
-- chingadazo
-- chingadera
-- chingado
-- chingar
-- chingón

La ortografia en espanol 5 out of 5 stars.

Aunque soy completamente bilingue (espanol e ingles) siempre me gusta estar al dia con los cambios en mi idioma y es por eso que compre este libro; tambien porque quiero someterme al examen de traductor-interprete para la Asociacion Americana de Traductores-Interpretes. Es por esta razon que estoy leyendo y practicando la ortografia, al igual que la gramatica. Espero estar lista en unos tres meses mas.

El libro en cuestion esta muy bueno, me hace recordar mucho mis dias de estudiante y a mi profesor que con disciplina llena de carino nos inculcaba las reglas de ortografia y gramatica hasta que todas las de mi clase no titubeabamos o nos equivocabamos al pasar a la pizarra a escribir los ejercicios. Tiene los cambios que ha sufrido el idioma espanol. Para mi no es aprendizaje sino practica y recordatorio; yo lo recomiendo para aquellos que tienen serio interes en mejorar o aprender ortografia en espanol.
