Editorial Review:

For most children, summer vacation is something to look forward to. But not for our 13-year-old hero, who's forced to spend his summers with an aunt, uncle, and cousin who detest him. The third book in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series catapults into action when the young wizard "accidentally" causes the Dursleys' dreadful visitor Aunt Marge to inflate like a monstrous balloon and drift up to the ceiling. Fearing punishment from Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon (and from officials at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry who strictly forbid students to cast spells in the nonmagic world of Muggles), Harry lunges out into the darkness with his heavy trunk and his owl Hedwig.

As it turns out, Harry isn't punished at all for his errant wizardry. Instead he is mysteriously rescued from his Muggle neighborhood and whisked off in a triple-decker, violently purple bus to spend the remaining weeks of summer in a friendly inn called the Leaky Cauldron. What Harry has to face as he begins his third year at Hogwarts explains why the officials let him off easily. It seems that Sirius Black--an escaped convict from the prison of Azkaban--is on the loose. Not only that, but he's after Harry Potter. But why? And why do the Dementors, the guards hired to protect him, chill Harry's very heart when others are unaffected? Once again, Rowling has created a mystery that will have children and adults cheering, not to mention standing in line for her next book. Fortunately, there are four more in the works. Great! 5 out of 5 stars.

My daughter and I both enjoy this series. This book just arrived and we were not disappointed. Some of the less than outstanding reviews from the "Amazon Vine Program" mention that this book seems targeted towards younger readers or that they were unfamiliar with the series. Well, yes. This is book five in a series that is spooky, but still appropriate for younger readers. Having read every book so far, I am familiar with the story and characters. I found this book to be a delightful read and cannot wait for the next book to be published!

Editorial Review:

"I've already drunk my fill of blood, so live a little longer. Breathe for a while and watch what's about to unfold."

Thomas Ward has spent two years as the Spook's apprentice. He's faced unimaginable peril, and survived. But a new danger has emerged: an ancient water witch, Bloodeye, is roaming the County intent on destroying everything in her path. To strengthen his skills, Tom is sent to the far north to train with the demanding Bill Arkwright. Arkwright lives in a haunted mill on the edge of a treacherous marsh, and his training methods prove to be harsh and sometimes cruel. Will Tom's new bag of tricks be enough to overcome a critical mistake that leaves him confronting Bloodeye on his own?

My Favorite So Far... 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The latest installment of the Fablehaven series is my favorite. Mull is a very good author and gets you so involved in the book that you want to keep reading to find out what happens to the characters. You almost feel like you're there and that all of these magical creatures really do exist. Yes, it requires make-believe, but I think it brings out the kid in all of us. A+

Amazing Books from Brandon Mull 5 out of 5 stars.

My daughter is absolutely crazy about this series. I picked up the first book by chance and she's read it three times already. She wouldn't leave me alone about it till we got her the second book. And now the third. Before this one arrived, she was reading two other books. The day it arrived, she put the other books she was reading back on the shelf and has yet to put this one down. Any book that can have that kind of effect on a 12 year old is just amazing in my opinion.

Great Series! 5 out of 5 stars.

Each book in the Fablehaven series gets better and better. Quite exciting and enjoyable. I couldn't put it down. These are books that you want to read in one setting if you have the time. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy.

In the third volume, the peril escalates as an unexplained darkness infects the creatures of Fablehaven.

Family Fun 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I got this box set for my 7 year old daughter. As it turns out the whole family has enjoyed it. The stories are simple enough for a child to read and have enough symbolism for an adult to enjoy. We've had great talks about the books we've finished and race to get to those we've yet to read. Your kids are much smarter than we think. My daughter has picked up on most of the symbolism and has great insights on the characters. Don't expect the books to have great layers as the movies do. They're written for children and enjoy them as a child would.

Editorial Review:

The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis, is one of the very few sets of books that should be read three times: in childhood, early adulthood, and late in life. In brief, four children travel repeatedly to a world in which they are far more than mere children and everything is far more than it seems. Richly told, populated with fascinating characters, perfectly realized in detail of world and pacing of plot, and profoundly allegorical, the story is infused throughout with the timeless issues of good and evil, faith and hope. This boxed set edition includes all seven volumes.

Absolutely a wonderful read, suspenseful but action packed. A must read for all Warriors fans.

Good Continuation of the Series 4 out of 5 stars.

On the whole,I thought that this book(while not great like Dark River was)was good. The Three are a little more fleshed out,and I was waiting with baited breath for the next appearance of the mysterious Rock.Of course he doesn't say much, but we do learn that even the Tribe has prophecies about the Three. The one thing I didn't like was that there wasn't enough fighting and suspense, and most of the Tribe still suffer from 2-D Syndrome. But Outcast was still good.I can't wait for Eclipse!

Editorial Review:

There will be three,
Kin of you kin....
Who hold the
Power of the stars
In their paws.

A secret prophecy shapes the lives of Firestar's grandchildren, but only one of the three knows about it. Jaypaw is captivated by the power it promises, and he believes the key to that power may lie buried in the distant past -- with the ancient cats who once walked these woods and now prowl through his dreams. His search for answers leads him toward the mountains -- the home of the Tribe of Rushing Water. Lionpaw and Hollypaw feel drawn to the mountains too, for different reasons.

But the mountains hide secrets as well as answers, and if the three cats find a way to get there, they may discover more than they ever expected.

Better than TWILIGHT IMO.... 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is a better YA vampire novel than Twilight in my opinion. The characters I actually came to really care about. There is Claire, the sixteen year old genius, in college too early and getting bullied every step of the way. Unfortunately these bullies intend to see Claire dead. This forces Claire out of the dorms and into a shared rental house. The Glass house is owned by Michael Glass a 19 year old with some crazy secrets of his own. The other roommates are Eve, a Gothic girl with a heart and Shane, a young man who is grieving for his sister and mother. With them, Claire finds safety but she also becomes more aware that the entire college town of Morganville is home for vampires. Anyone without the Vampire's trademark "Protection" is fair 'prey'. Claire's already managed to tick off the vampire community multiple times. Logical Claire is now faced with unlogical things and people all around her. Her choices can lead herself and friends to safety or have dire consequences. The action is packed, and the characters are great. I'm a 30-something and I have to say that I didn't have the problems other reviewers had with not really feeling the target age for readers of this series. I had no problem feeling these characters just the way I can feel the Harry Potter character's and as I already said I much preferred this group to Meyer's Twilight characters. My four star review is a actually more like 4 1/2 (Yes, I did enjoy the book THAT much) and I have to take 1/2 star off solely because this ended on a seriously disappointing cliffhanger. I've said in other reviews that I enjoy and anticipate stories that have dangling threads that make me eager for the next volume of the series but ending in the middle of action just isn't cool.

Editorial Review:

From the author of the popular Weather Warden series. Welcome to Morganville, Texas.

Just don't stay out after dark.

College freshman Claire Danvers has had enough of her nightmarish dorm situation, where the popular girls never let her forget just where she ranks in the school's social scene: somewhere less than zero.

When Claire heads off-campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better. Her new roommates don't show many signs of life. But they'll have Claire's back when the town's deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood.

Fame

It's a few years after rebel Tally Youngblood took down the uglies/pretties/specials regime. Without those strict roles and rules, the world is in a complete cultural renaissance. "Tech-heads" flaunt their latest gadgets, "kickers" spread gossip and trends, and "surge monkeys" are hooked on extreme plastic surgery. And it's all monitored on a bazillion different cameras. The world is like a gigantic game of American Idol. Whoever is getting the most buzz gets the most votes. Popularity rules.

As if being fifteen doesn't suck enough, Aya Fuse's rank of 451,369 is so low, she's a total nobody. An extra. But Aya doesn't care; she just wants to lie low with her drone, Moggle. And maybe kick a good story for herself.

Then Aya meets a clique of girls who pull crazy tricks, yet are deeply secretive of it. Aya wants desperately to kick their story, to show everyone how intensely cool the Sly Girls are. But doing so would propel her out of extra-land and into the world of fame, celebrity...and extreme danger. A world she's not prepared for.

Definitely a series to invest in! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

What would you do if you woke up one day and saw a ghost? If you're like 15-year-old Chloe Saunders, you end up in a group home for "troubled" kids. All Chloe wants to do is get back to her normal life, but she keeps seeing ghosts, and is starting to suspect that this isn't a normal group home - and that the doctors might have something sinister in mind for all the kids. This is Kelley Armstrong's first book for young adults, and it is fantastic. With strong, witty characters and danger at every turn, this is the start of a must-read series.

Editorial Review:

My name is Chloe Saunders and my life will never be the same again.

All I wanted was to make friends, meet boys, and keep on being ordinary. I don't even know what that means anymore. It all started on the day that I saw my first ghost—and the ghost saw me.

Now there are ghosts everywhere and they won't leave me alone. To top it all off, I somehow got myself locked up in Lyle House, a "special home" for troubled teens. Yet the home isn't what it seems. Don't tell anyone, but I think there might be more to my housemates than meets the eye. The question is, whose side are they on? It's up to me to figure out the dangerous secrets behind Lyle House . . . before its skeletons come back to haunt me.

I am a cat lover, but have never thought much about feral cat communities. The stories were interesting and fast paced and the story line was interesting. Was a bit anthropomorphic, but also included enough cat behavior to be credible.

we took this set of books to our grandson in Israel (10 years old) and he read them all before our visit was over and we were there for 10 days! He couldn't put them down and now I have ordered the next set for when they come out in September. Thank you for making these so interesting that a 10 year old wants to read every waking hour!

Second Maximum Ride 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Second book in the Maximum Ride series.

The story picks up 24 hours after the end of the first book. Ari is dead (or is he?) and Max is not sure how to feel. As Max and the rest of the flock continue the search for their parents and their purpose, they run into one exciting situation after another, including a Max clone who thinks she can replace Max and betray the flock with no one the wiser. Lots of action and not a whole lot of character development, but Total (the dog) now talks and I love Max--I can't get enough of her snarky, sarcastic comments.

Editorial Review:

"Adventure, fighting, backstabbing and love abound" (VOYA) in this action-packed follow-up to the #1 New York Times blockbuster MAXIMUM RIDE: THE ANGEL EXPERIMENT, now available in paperback. The heart-stopping quest of six winged kids--led by fourteen-year-old Max--to find their parents and investigate the mind-blowing mystery of their ultimate destiny continues when they're taken under the wing of an FBI agent and attempt, for the first time, to live "normal" lives. But going to school and making friends doesn't stop them from being relentlessly hunted by sinister spies, who lead Max to face her most frightening match yet: a new and better version of herself.
