Our Favorite Halloween Book 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I found this book last year at the library and read it to my daughter when she was three- Within a few pages, she was saying most of the entertainingly repetitive dialogue on her own. It's the best Halloween book for preschoolers out there, in my opinion. This year, we bought a copy of our own and she loved it just as much as the first time around.

Oh, yes! 5 out of 5 stars.

We pull this one out in the fall. The story is great for standing up and moving around -- clomp, clomp - wiggle, wiggle - shake, shake - clap, clap - nod, nod... plus, there's a great surprise (which we shout out VIGOROUSLY!) and a happy ending. It's one of our best fall books.

Excellent Spooky Tale For Youngsters 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Youngsters eight and younger will love this spooky children's tale about a little old lady who refuses to be afraid of "things" following her through the woods on her way home. "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything" is simple, fun, and excellent for kindergarten and first grade kids to practice their reading skills on. It works even better as a tale read to a child. My daughter loves it when I read this story to her and put emphasis on the noises that each of the old ladies' followers makes. From "Clomp, Clomp" to "Boo, Boo," my daughter giggled her way through this story. There's just enough spookiness to the story to keep kids a tad antsy, but the resolution eventually makes everything okay.

I highly recommend this tale to anybody who has a child eight years of age or younger and stress that this story works best if it's read to the children instead of having them read it. Author Linda Williams has done a nice job of making a lightly spooky tale for youngsters and Megan Lloyd's dark and moody (though somehow amazingly fun) illustrations only add to the tale's atmosphere. It's a fun Halloween tale that works on any night of the year.

Editorial Review:

0nce upon a time, there was a little old lady who was not afraid of anything! But one autumn night, while walking in the woods, the little old lady heard . . . CLOMP, CLOMP, SHAKE, SHAKE, CLAP, CLAP. And the little old lady who was not afraid of anything had the scare of her life!

I bought this for my 23 year old son for Christmas...... 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

he used to watch the original movie when he was a kid, over and over again. He's been away from home for a few years, working on a ski slope in CO, so I wanted to send him a bit of 'home'. I know it's a kid's book, but he said he really enjoyed it, and has read it several times. It brought back lots of memories. It's been a story that has stayed with our family for almost 20 years now!

excellent 5 out of 5 stars.

this is an excellent story about a boys' survival on his own and his relationship with animals and the environment. I have been reading these to my 8 year old son and he loves them. He wants to be a falconer when he grows up!

Editorial Review:

In 1959, Jean Craighead George published My Side of the Mountain. This coming-of-age story about a boy and his falcon went on to win a Newbery Honor, and for the past forty years has enthralled and entertained generations of would-be Sam Gribleys. The two books that followed--On the Far Side of the Mountain and Frightful's Mountain--were equally extraordinary. Now all three books are available in one deluxe yet affordable volume for veteran devotees and brand-new fans alike.

Jumanji and Zathura are Great Together 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Jumanji and Zathura are exciting books. Jumanji and Zathura go go together well. They are both exciting. In Jumanji a boy and a girl find a game and play. When they are done they put it back where they found it. Then two boys take the game. They think Jumanji looks boring, but tucked inside the Jumanji box they find Zathura. Then there is a lot of action. These two books are awesome! I highly recommend them to kids of all ages. -SB

Jumanji and Zathura are the Best Books! 5 out of 5 stars.

"Jumanji" is a great book for some people, but a scary book for others. How can a game come true? If you believe in magic, the book will seem more real. If you read "Zathura" too, it will be even better. I would give ten stars if I could! Chris Van Allsburg creates some great books! If I had a chance to meet him I wouldn't miss the chance! -Nathalia, Grade 4, Nantucket, MA

Perspective Game 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I was shown this as a perspective game. Tear all the pages out and then shuffle them up. Then have a team put them in an order. Don't tell them there is a specific order but let them figure out how it works. Each person on the team will see a different part and then they will all put it together. Then talk about perspective and how each person's can be different so we need to work together to get the complete picture.

great book! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great activity for church groups and/or school staffs! I've done it at a pastor's retreat and at our school staff development. It was a great activity for both groups!

OK, but not as good as ZOOM 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The first book, Zoom, is fun and fascinating when "read' for the first time. Re-zoom may be equally clever, but is basically just more of the same. If someone has seen the first book and gets the gist of the "zooming," then the predictablilty of the next page of Re-zoom takes away from the "wow" experience of the first book. If one were to read only one of these books, I would definitely recommend the first, Zoom.

Editorial Review:

En otra aventura visual a la manera de Zoom, Istvan Banyai nos conducira por paises y escenarios insospechados. El punto de partida sera en esta ocasion un jeroglifico egipcio, que nos mostrara que todo es segun el tamano de la lente con que se mire.

Simply charming and delightful! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This book is about three children named Sorrel, Mark and Holly. When their grandfather dies and they are sent to live with their maternal grandmother, and former famous actress. They are sent to the Children's Academy of Dancing and Stage Training so that they can carry the family's stage tradition. Holly is very good at dancing, Mark at singing and Sorrel at acting. The grandmother is very distant and cold, yet the children find love in their nanny and other family members. Meanwhile, they must put up with their talented, bratty cousin.
The story is wonderfully told and once again, the characters are completely lovable. Kids and adults will love this story, especially Shoes fans.

Editorial Review:

Three orphans are forced to enter a theater school by their grandmother, a famous actress. Unable to pay the tuition, they are given scholarships from the now-grown orphans from Ballet Shoes. Will they be able to live up to their patrons’ legacies? The children are ready to run away—until they discover their hidden talents. Originally published in 1945.

B-Day Goody Bag Books 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

These were used as favors for my son's 5th birthday party. I added a little sticker inside to thank everyone for coming. It's a great story, a familiar and cuious monkey and it even includes some fun games in the back. Many parents thanked me for encouraging their kids to read and most of all for not giving junk and candy.

Great Book.....Must have for your collection 4 out of 5 stars.

The Curious George series of books is a wonderful addition to any youngster's library as the stories are brief, beautifully illustrated in vibrant colors, and the plot is simple and easy for young ones to understand. In this book, Curious George gets all excited over a birthday party, and wonders who its for? There are many fun parts as in when George decides to help frost the cake, and what he does with a mess in the kitchen. The activities at the end of the book is an added bonus. A must-have for any Curious George fan!

Editorial Review:

When the man with the yellow hat tells George that he is planning a surprise, of course George is curious. Before long George finds a hat, noisemakers, decorations, and games. It must be a birthday! But whose birthday is it? That"s the surprise!

Editorial Review:

Lumphy is a stuffed buffalo. StingRay is a stuffed stingray. And Plastic... well, Plastic isn't quite sure what she is. They all belong to the Little Girl who lives on the high bed with the fluffy pillows. A very nice person to belong to.

But outside of the Little Girl's room things can be confusing. Like when Lumphy gets sticky with peanut butter on a picnic, why is he called "dirty"? Or when StingRay jumps into the bathtub, what will happen to her fur? And where in the house can they find the Little Girl a birthday present that she will love the most?

Together is best for these three best friends. Together they look things up in the dictionary, explore the basement, and argue about the meaning of life. And together they face dogs, school, television commercials, the vastness of the sea and the terrifying bigness of the washing machine.

With all the appeal of a classic, here are six linked stories form Emily Jenkins, and illustrated by Caldecott winning Paul O. Zelinsky that showcase the unforgettable adventures--and misadventures-- of three extraordinary friends.

My daughter had to read A Year Down Yonder by Richard Peck for her 8th grade English class. We both read the book and both enjoyed it. We loved the characters, especially the grandmother. This is a wonderful book for young readers!

Very Nice 5 out of 5 stars.

A Year Down Yonder 5 out of 5 stars.

While this is a sequel to A Long Way from Chicago, it can easily be read and enjoyed on its own. Richard Peck writes the adventures of Mary Alice, spending a year away from her home in depression-era Chicago at her grandmother's house in the country. While grandma Dowdel is gruff and no-nonsense, she soon enlists Mary Alice in her schemes to influence neighbors - some who are friends, some who are enemies. This hilarious book is great to read aloud, and it will leave both adults and kids in stitches.

Editorial Review:

In 1937, during the Depression, fifteen-year-old Mary Alice, initially apprehensive about leaving Chicago to spend a year with her fearsome, larger-than-life grandmother in rural Illinois, gradually begins to better understand and admire her grandmother's unusual qualities.

OK for the kids, torture for the parents. 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

We listened to this twice on our our 1200 mile trip over the past week. Our 6 year old daughter was entertained by it. Our son, whom is was actually purchased for, was a bit oblivious to it. He's almost 4. My husband and I were about to jump out the window though. The author's voice and reading style and the singing were beyond grating on our last nerve!

I loved Frances when I was a kid 5 out of 5 stars.

Frances was a favorite of mine as a child, so I bought the books for my daughter who is 2yrs old. She doesn't quite get it yet, but likes listening to it nonetheless, and I've discovered that these stories are fun for the grown-up reading them too.

Editorial Review:

Frances fans will find their favorite stories about this endearing, irrepressible badger who cleverly avoids her bedtime and stubbornly refuses to eat anything but bread and jam, in this charming audio collection read by actress Glynis Johns. This ALA Notable Children's Recording includes: Bedtime for Frances; A Baby Sister for Frances; Bread and Jam for Frances; andA Birthday for Frances.

This is another terrific book by Syd Hoff that brings back childhood memories. I loved it then and I still love it now. My kids enjoy reading this book over and over again. It is filled with colorful pictures and the story line is so cute and fun. Another great book by Syd Hoff.

Editorial Review:

One of the most popular titles of the I Can Read series, featuring that lovable dinosaur and his friend Danny! In Danny and the Dinosaur, Danny spends an entire day with his newly-found friend -- a dinosaur. Silly antics ensue in Happy Birthday, Danny and the Dinosaur!, when Danny turns six and invites the dinosaur to his birthday party. In Danny and the Dinosaur Go to Camp the duo enjoy boating, hiking and roasting marshmallows.

In the bonus book, Sammy the Seal spends a day on the town and finds out what really goes on outside the zoo on an average day. When Sammy makes his way down the street, an ordinary day becomes an extraordinary adventure as he searches for a place to swim and learns how to read and write in school.
