Eek-a! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My 13 month old loves this book. It actually inspired her fifth word! We were reading the book and as I was about to say "Peek-A... Moo", I heard this tiny "eek-a" from my daughter. I turned the page for Peek-a-Boo, and before I could say anything, she did it again - "eek-a". It's repetitious so I think it taught her to say the word. Now she loves to say "eek-a" before I turn the page. I don't know that you can find "eek-a" in a Webster's, but I'll take it!

Editorial Review:

Nina Laden's illustrations in this simple, rhyming board book are truly magical. The format is straightforward: on alternating two-page spreads, the words "Peek a" are repeated, opposite an illustrated page with a die-cut hole, behind which lurks a cow ("MOO!"), a green ghost ("BOO!"), and a mirror (you guessed it, "YOU!"). The youngest readers will delight in trying to guess who--or what--is peeking through the window, and can easily grip the baby-fist-size holes to turn the pages for the answers. The picture of the "ZOO!" is fabulous. Through the hole, all that can be seen is a wild pattern of colors, stripes, and spots. Turn the page, and find a wild kingdom of animals, one in front of the other: peacock, zebra, penguin, cheetah, elephant, and more. Ready for more peekaboo fun? Try Nina Laden's Ready, Set, Go! . Excellent learning/teaching tool 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great book. It covers shapes, colors, opposites, animals, the whole nine yards in a fun and interactive way that really engages and stimulates little minds. Best of all, it is REALLY durable!

A durable book 5 out of 5 stars.

I got this for my son almost 2 months ago and it's one of his favorites. He's 10 months old now. It's a very small book but the pages are thick cardboard and the flaps are cardboard too which I love because they are a lot harder to destroy than flimsy paper ones! It has a lot of pages that are illustrated very well. I love it.

My sons favorite book... 5 out of 5 stars.

We own shelves and shelves full of cardboard books, of all shapes and sizes but this book for whatever reason is my sons favorite book. He is 14 months old right now, and he will pick this out of all the other books and carry it all around the house with him opening up the little flaps and laughing. He will give it to me to read to him, and it actually keeps his attention!

Editorial Review:

Illustrated in full color. Open the barn door and take a tour around the barnyard to find out just who's making all those wonderful animal sounds.

Not To Sure About This Book 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Let me first mention that I am a huge fan of Karen Katz's books. However, this book was a big disappointment. Instead of teaching the child how to use the potty, the story contradicts using the potty. The child in the book spends most of the time rejecting the potty. This book basically confused my child and I stop reading it. The illustrations are great, but the story indicates that this particular child is not ready to use the potty. The lack of encouragement and motivation of potty training in this story is not great at all.

Editorial Review:

Mommy got me a brand new potty!

But I'm not ready yet!

I want to run and play.

Uh-oh, I peed in my pants.

But Mommy says, "That's okay!"

Children will love following along and lifting the flaps to see the child play, sit on thepotty, eat, sit on the potty, sleep, and then sit on the potty...until finally there is success.

Written from a child's point of view, this new potty-training book will help children join in the final refrain, "I'm so proud of me!"

Good buy. 5 out of 5 stars.

It is a nice educational book, and my daughter ( between 1 and 2.5 years) used it and liked it a lot. I would recommend it.

Baby loves this! 4 out of 5 stars.

I had low expectations for this book but my 6 month old loves this book. She giggles every time I lift one of the flaps!

Cute idea, but not sturdy enough for babies, 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I will say that my daughter did like this book. It's a "peek-a-boo" type book. The problem is that, of course, babies want to open and close the flaps themselves, and these flaps are thin, flimsy and hard for little baby fingers to get a hold of (and avoid ripping or curlling once they do). Many of our flaps are missing, but the kids still read this book from time to time.

It would be better if it was a little sturdier.

Child #2 loves it as well 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

We are on child #2 with this book and both of my kids have requested it over and over and over and over. My youngest, 19 months, is 'reading' it to us. I found my 5 yr old reading it to the youngest one last night.

It is easy to understand, fun for the babies and easily read by my other kid. What could be better? Well, maybe a space age polymer that keeps the flaps on when an overzealous toddler continues to try and wrestle them off.

Editorial Review:

Where are Baby's hands?

Under the bubbles!

Where are baby's eyes?

Under her hat!

Karen Katz's adorable babies play peekaboo in this delightful interactive book. The sturdy format and easy-to-lift flaps are perfect for parents and children to share.

Very engaging for a 9-month old 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I introduced this book to my 9-month old son, who immediately took to lifting the flaps like a pro. This cooperative reading of the book, makes the required multiple readings entertaining rather than tedious. We've never had a concern about the sturdiness of the flaps, as these are a bit thicker than some other books we've run across us. Although, please note, my son hasn't figured out that ripping pages might be fun and is appropriately gentle with books. He is now 21 months old and still requests this book often. This was also the first book, I saw him browsing by himself, at about 12 months old.

Great Book 5 out of 5 stars.

My two year old son loves this book. The pages have flaps you lift and then you can see the animals. He loves that. We read this book every night repeatedly before bed.

Teaches polite responses in a fun way 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

A book-loving toddler will delight in lifting the full-page flaps and repeating the polite phrases--some in response to silly requests. I have received more "No thank yous" and "Yes pleases" since reading this book with my child.

We LOVE this book! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My daughter and I have been reading Karen Katz books together since she was able to sit up. This is an excellent addition to our collection! My daughter is now two-and-a-half, and she just LOVES the lift-a-flaps in these books. We have been working on manners, so this book is perfect. After reading these books a few times together, my daughter is able to read it back to me from memory, and she feels so proud when she finishes a book by herself. I highly recommend this and all of the Karen Katz books!!

Editorial Review:

"Please" and "thank you" are fun and easy to remember with Excuse Me!. Simple and repetitive, it's the perfect way to introduce those magic words that all little ones should know. From burping to breaking a sibling's toy, toddlers will love seeing these appealing babies in situations they know all about, and they'll have fun lifting the flaps to discover the right words to say-"Excuse me!" and "I'm sorry!"

Editorial Review:

Karen Katz whips together another fun, colorful lift-the-flap adventure, in the form of a wee home-improvement project between a father and child.

Displaying the same cheerful delivery and bright artwork that Katz used in Where Is Baby's Belly Button? and Toes, Ears, and Nose!, Daddy and Me tells its tale with a simple setup and sturdy flaps to lift on each two-page spread: "I'm helping Dad make something special. First we saw the wood. Where is Daddy's saw?" Two easy-to-grab flaps open to reveal that Daddy's saw is "In the... closet." Pencils, nails, screwdrivers, and a paintbrush are likewise hiding out around the shop, and it's up to Daddy's cherubic, gender-indeterminate little helper to track them down--with some help from the reader, of course, lifting up work gloves, a tool box lid, some paint cans, and a newspaper.

We finally find out what project Daddy had planned (which also explains why a cute chestnut puppy has been helping the helper all along): "At last we are finished. We made a doghouse for Henry! But where is Henry?" Readers get to lift one more flap to find out. (Baby to preschool) --Paul Hughes

Good Book - About not being mad - not just hitting. 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book to help my two kids learn about hitting. It is not really a book about hitting, but about all emotions. Not hitting, not sticking out tongue, not squeezing the cat, not being mad in general. My kids love all of these books. The lift the flaps are wonderful, the characters are cute and likeable, and the storylines are easy to follow for the kids.

No Hitting? Please... 1 out of 5 stars.

Had the opposite effect on my daughter. I love Karen Katz books, but for some reason, this one misses the mark.

Mediocre 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is not that great. It's short and doesn't address common issues. It says things like "don't squeeze the cat". It's very thin & easily can be torn.

GREAT ! 5 out of 5 stars.

GREAT BOOK ! MY DAUGHTER IS TWO. SHE BRINGS THIS BOOK TO ME AND TELLS ME, "MOMMY, NO HITTING." WE BOTH LOVE THIS BOOK. SHE ALSO LOVES TO FLIP THE PAGES UP .

Editorial Review:

With the help of this book, toddlers will love learning to say NO to hitting—and screaming and squeezing and yelling—and YES to fun! Refreshingly honest and all too true, this funny book is perfect for toddlers, and parents will find it a painless way to steer their little ones toward, shall we say, more acceptable behavior!

Cute book! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book has lots of flaps for kids to look under. The book also follows the movie Elmo in Grouchland to a large degree. My 2 yr old daughter loves Elmo and loves lifting flaps so this is a hit with her.

Great! 5 out of 5 stars.

We got this for our 18 month old son for Christmas. He loves this book. You ask him where certain characters are and he points to them or lifts the flap to expose them. This is definitely a great book for a little one.

Entertaining Lift-a-Flap 5 out of 5 stars.

Not very durable 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I recently purchased this for my 3 year old. On the plus side, he absolutely loves it. It is very engaging for a child who loves Sesame Street, and I think very educational too. But, one of the flaps ripped within 5 minutes of its first use. (And, my son is relatively gentle with his books.) We've had a lot of lift-and-look type books over the past 2+ years, and the strength/durability of this one does not compare. For example, the Baby Einstein series seems to have thicker flaps. Kids will probably love it, but be aware it might not last long.

Editorial Review:

Count to 10, explore the alphabet, discover shapes, learn about opposites, and find the missing teddy bear in this big, colorful board book. Sesame Street's beloved Elmo guides young readers to lift more than 60 flaps to reveal humorous and edifying surprises. Over the word "dry," Grover gazes unsuspectingly into a garden hose. Turn the flap and guess what happens! Grover learns all about "wet." A towering pyramid of alphabet blocks contains objects starting with the same letter behind each flap: alligator, book, cookies. Large, sturdy flaps allow rough-tough toddler hands to clutch and pull as much as they want with minimal risk of tearing. Children will adore the bright, bold illustrations of Jim Henson's familiar Muppet characters and beg to return to this book again and again. (Baby to preschool) --Emilie Coulter
